901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just made my first Bitcoin ATM withdrawal... 3BTC from my printer. on: August 08, 2012, 05:52:42 PM
Actually I thought of a reason why to use AES instead of XOR, even if it were with no IV, and the key were a simple hash of the password (to prevent lengthening of the string).  It occurred to me that someone having an encrypted private key along with a decrypted version of that private key would be able to deduce the password hash if XOR was used, which could then be used to decrypt other private keys encrypted with that same password, without knowing the password.  AES would probably stop this.

So, back to square one: the actual key standard and encryption method needs to be worked out before Bitaddress.org or something similar can really implement it.
Also an IV and whatnot isn't a real big concern, just use KeyStreching http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_stretching, specifically PBKDF2

I could provide valid ID but not proof of residence. I mean I actually do live somewhere but it's not in my name and I can't get a document that says I live here. I've had the same US bank account for more than 10 years.
Supposedly Bitfloor only requires your ID, I have started this process so it is ready when I want/need it.  I will let you know how it goes.

From their site:

If you would like to setup direct deposit, please contact support@bitfloor.com and provide a copy of your government or state ID, your bank name, routing number, and account number.

I'm not attaching <audio> elements within the DOM, however, and this might be the reason why Safari doesn't like it.
One nice thing about attaching the audio elements is that they will pre-load.

Also you I would make sure that you are re-using your objects (just setting the playback position to the beginning) which in theory should be better from a memory, speed POV. (I would actually be surprised if you of all people were not doing this already.)

Also I just tested with Safari 6.0.7536.25 on OSX 10.7.4 (which is Lion) and it works fine, I do indeed get sounds.  Perhaps the other users trade volume is higher than they thought?

Did you get this solveD?

block_tx 2260 2290

block_tx 2261 2291

By the way, I don't know if anyone has ever loaded the whole thing in SQLite.  I'll be surprised if it works and more surprised if it takes under a month.  I recommend MySQL or better for the BTC chain.  And regardless of database, an initial run with --no-serve --commit-bytes=100000 will probably speed it up.

I have a pretty weak machine (512MB VPS) that takes several days to load BTC into Abe using PostgreSQL.

Initial loading tips would be welcomed... I am going on 6 days and still have 2658 blocks left to go.
906  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just made my first Bitcoin ATM withdrawal... 3BTC from my printer. on: August 08, 2012, 04:44:49 PM
The paper note should have smaller tear off strips of different value so as you use it the note gets smaller over time.
You could call them "bits" of paper....

Not a bad idea. Another idea (unrelated) would be to print a change address QR code on the bill.

This sure is a lot easier than building it's electronic equivalent!
This is a bad idea (as the notes are currently designed).

The private key is gone on first spend so you don't really want to have it hanging out.

Once I click "Login now" in the wallet section, the page formatting in Opera 12.01 on Windows 7 is all screwed up and it doesn't display correctly once logged in. It looks like all the text is crammed into a table on the left side of the screen, if that makes sense. Let me know if you'd like to see a screen shot.
Why on earth are you using Opera?

It's great to hear of more Bitcoiners in Wyoming.

Likewise.

I'm currently waiting for the Wyoming Secretary of State to certify my position on the ballot.  Once that's done, I'll have more details about collecting contributions and the associated reporting requirements.
I actually work on the elections here in Natrona county and I bet that the SoS is busy getting read for Aug 21, so I wouldn't expect to hear anything until after the canvass for the primary.

Does your district have a good libertarian support?  I know here you are an almost shoe in if yu have an R next to you.  Also do you know about your other third party opposition?  We have heard of people running on all sorts of non-standard parties this cycle (constitution, liberty, etc).  That would be bad as it would cannibalize your vote.

I also have some ideas for signs too if you are interested.
909  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Real Time Charting, Order Book, and Time & Sales on: August 08, 2012, 01:17:30 PM
Actually, it works on Windows 7, Safari 5.1.7. Any Mac-specific debug messages would be very helpful...

Hmm, that's weird.  I'm seeing no debug messages anywhere, just not getting any sound.

What method are you using to do the sound, HTML5 audio, Flash/Shockwave, or something else?

Apparently Safari's HTML5 audio support was somewhat broken before but supposedly it's now working in Safari 6.
My guess is that it doesn't like the audio format.

Or just put a warning on the page that you will get an error if it has been open more than two hours.

Michael,

Where are you located?  I am in WY too (Casper).  Even if you are not in my district I would love to donate to the cause, did you get that sorted out?
913  Economy / Auctions / Re: US 1 Million Dollar Bill on: August 07, 2012, 10:01:24 PM
I heard (don't know if it is true or not) that the US GOVT stopped issuing large denominations because it was too easy to move without them knowing about it.
914  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you keep your Bitcoins on an exchange? on: August 07, 2012, 09:58:33 PM
I have a fairly insignificant amount of usd/btc (couple hundred bucks) at any given time on an exchange...I don't leave anything on the exchanges (or in btc for that matter) that I'm not prepared to lose. Given all the hacks and volitility, its a bad idea to approach btc any other way.
However if you want to take advantage of price swings you must Sad
915  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - HTML5 Bitcoin Casino - Provably Fair on: August 07, 2012, 07:06:02 PM
Great to hear the site's doing great! I've been having fun with those 0.25 BTC Smiley

I do have a small suggestion: could you add a way to see how much you've won/lost per game and total you've deposited and withdrawn? It was easy to add them up myself before when I only had a few deposits, but now it starts taking some work...

If you walked away from a casino with the amount you've lost blazing on a neon sign in front of you, they might not see too much more of your business.

I was thinking along the same lines.  Since the majority of customers are going to be net losers it might not be good for business to show them how much exactly they've lost.  Gamblers often like to believe that they "broke about even".  Presenting the true situation to them makes that harder to believe.
I can say that I would not auto-sum if I was bitZino.  Those who want it will add, those that don't (like dooglus pointed out above) will go on believing they broke even.
916  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitFloor.com Rocks! on: August 07, 2012, 07:01:57 PM
I can say that the Wells Fargo deposit works great for me. Haven't done withdrawal, but that's mostly cause I'm pretty long on BTC and prefer to avoid giving out my ID if possible. I'll give it when I feel like selling some, but that might be awhile.

Same here... I have done a couple of deposits @ WF now and I am loving BF.
917  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just made my first Bitcoin ATM withdrawal... 3BTC from my printer. on: August 07, 2012, 06:33:58 PM
This has been hashed and rehashed in the original thread.

The point of these are not to do the 'suitcase full of cash' transactions.  Just a few here and there, most likely in mircopayments with the price the way it is now.
918  Economy / Gambling / Re: You are also risking criminal prosecution. on: August 07, 2012, 06:24:28 PM
You are also risking legal problems.  Where I live (Massachusetts, United States) this is illegal.  The creator of SatoshiDice actually sold his site to someone else to avoid this risk.
Does evoorhees not own SD anymore?

I think evoorhees is the "someone else" in the above sentence, not "the creator".  i.e. he bought it, not sold it.
I didn't know that... I that erik was the creator (with fireduck being the technical), I think he is in the US too.

Good to know.
919  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just made my first Bitcoin ATM withdrawal... 3BTC from my printer. on: August 07, 2012, 05:15:17 PM
soo fantastic!! imagine you can spend this as a gift...
This is my idea too... give them as gifts / talking points.

I am a nasty bastard though and I am thinking of putting a VALID UNTIL_______ field so if they don't get off their lazy dufs for 3 months after I give them I can get my BTC back!
920  Economy / Gambling / Re: BTCBlink.com - Yet another bitcoin game. on: August 07, 2012, 05:10:51 PM
If in a few months nothing really changes I'll refund the ticket purchases and send back all of the bitcoins. I'm constantly watching it along with this thread.
Doesn't really look like this has gotten traction.  Any updates?
