2261  Economy / Speculation / Re: [poll] are you giving bitcoin for xmas on: December 13, 2012, 10:34:33 AM
That's a great idea. I hate going to the shops buying shit and now I'll have to buy some christmas present to my colleagues. Instead I'll just generate a vanity address, send the amount of coins equal to the worth that the presents have to be and the private key will be my gift.

They would rather buy shit load of ASCIs with their bankster money and disturb the bitcoin network by doing that. To protect against that we should probably make bitcoin v2.0 where hash calculation changes the algorithm periodically so that such high performance devices couldn't be ever done.
2263  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: November 29, 2012, 08:22:36 PM
obviously that software would have to be open source Cheesy

edit:
it's more like a simple automation script because one could do this kind of transferring manually if he wanted to. Making 100 transactions manually would just be a way too much. Transaction fees could be problem but at trading sites you're going to pay to the site.
2264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: November 29, 2012, 06:59:42 AM
Let's say 2 persons wish to trade LTC and BTC without central authority or middle man. Also, they don't trust each other.
If this has already been talked somewhere then sorry for bringing it up here but otherwise here's my idea:

Create some functionality or a program that sends out BTC/LTC only after it has received a certain amount from a specified address. For example sending 1 BTC in hope of receiving 170 LTC is a too high risk. Instead the BTC guy sends only 0.01 BTC and waits for the other party to send back 1.7 LTC. The LTC guy uses the same automation and sends back 1.7 LTC every time it receives 0.01 BTC. They repeat the procedure until the value has been exchanged.

The automation would be configurable so that as the percentage of exchanged value increases the amount of each transaction also would increase to speed up the procedure. If at any point one party tries to cheat and stop sending the value back the other party only loses a microscopic amount.

What do you think? Would that system be useful? Or maybe in the future?

2265  Economy / Speculation / Re: Apocalypse coming. Any chance bitcoin would survive? on: November 27, 2012, 07:18:33 AM
Apocalypse means Lifting of the Veil
Apocalypse means Total Devastation (in this->context;)
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/apocalypse

btw, I think it's a win:win situation because if everything goes down, banksters go down too and I believe bitcoin is easier to re-establish than centrals banks.

You might want to have a look at this:

I don't know where to get lead but I guess tin foil would serve the same purpose. I'm going to buy a shit load of tin foil and make a full mask out of it. also maybe would be good idea to surround my pc and laptop with it.

the only thing that concerns me is the induction heating - I wouldn't want to have that foil burning my skin when the magnetic storms break loose.
2267  Economy / Speculation / Apocalypse coming. Any chance bitcoin would survive? on: November 26, 2012, 05:17:31 PM
So just to speculate on that. Let's say we'll see massive electronics failure due to extreme solar activity.Would there be any point to make a paper backup of my wallet.dat before the ~21st of December? Can magnetic storms corrupt digitally stored binary data? Maybe it would be smart to print out the bitcoin's protocol or the source code just in case?

I'm just curious what are your thoughts on this end of the world scenario. I think it either doesn't bring us back to the stone age or if it does bitcoin would be the last thing to worry about.

I'd like to buy one game but it seems that the service is down. Is it permanent?
2269  Economy / Speculation / Re: Glad thats over on: August 21, 2012, 08:16:30 PM
I was so close to selling everything on Monday morning Cheesy but luckily I was too lazy.

I've been scammed 10 years ago by Fast Market and Solid Investment Tongue, total ponzies. They paid 4% a week and were scams. 7 is just hilarious. This is why I believe pirate won't pay.
2270  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who predicted this on: August 20, 2012, 09:51:51 AM
is the binary meaningful in ascii?
2271  Economy / Services / Re: SteamCoin - Buy Steam Games for Bitcoin on: July 07, 2012, 08:53:35 PM
Ok worked out well! Great service & thanks. I would never have bothered creating some idiot paypal or whatnot account and messing with bank transfers Cheesy. Too bad steam doesn't support bitcoins natively.
2272  Economy / Services / Re: SteamCoin - Buy Steam Games for Bitcoin on: July 07, 2012, 08:35:09 PM
ok thanks, didn't know the process
2273  Economy / Services / Re: SteamCoin - Buy Steam Games for Bitcoin on: July 07, 2012, 08:31:13 PM
wtf is a steam e-mail address? in the payment section you ask me to enter my e-mail. So I entered my e-mail: hyena@hyena.net.ee
nothing

my steam account is Hyena__ but I don't see any e-mail info there. A email should have @ character in it.

This is lame, sent 4.93 btc but this obviously didn't trigger your automation to send me the games.
2274  Economy / Services / Re: SteamCoin - Buy Steam Games for Bitcoin on: July 07, 2012, 08:22:18 PM
Another thing is that I have not yet received the email even though I even sent the coins. What's the delay? This should be fixed. There are sites that automatically display a notice that payment has been received in the same webpage.
2275  Economy / Services / Re: SteamCoin - Buy Steam Games for Bitcoin on: July 07, 2012, 08:02:51 PM
Is it possible to just exchange bitcoins to steam credit? I would just send you btc-s and you'd send me steam credit automatically, then I'd but the game using steam itself.

Is it possible?

I am a developer and I regularly get new cool ideas for improving bitcoin services. I have attempted to discuss them in newbie section but I am not getting replies. Right now I'd like to post in the development forum of Electrum Bitcoin Client as I have a good idea for improvement.
2277  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum Bicoin Client - an idea on: June 13, 2012, 12:38:09 PM
Hi! I'm restricted to newbie status thus I cannot make this post in the original thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=50936.0

Where is the algorithm stored for restoring the wallet?

This is my imaginary scenario:
1. For some reason Electrum Bitcoin Client disappears with its electrum.dat files.
2. For some reason all the source code of this software disappears from the web.
Yet, I still have my list of words for restoring my wallet. How can I restore it?

This is what I intend to do:
I print out the list of my mnemonic words on a paper.
On the other side of that paper I will print out the python source code that would restore my wallet knowing these words.

Is this possible? Is this already done? How to do it? Any support for this idea?

Hi! I've been interested in btc since October 2011. I'm a student of informatics in Estonia. I work as a programmer and my hobbies include developing computer games. My latest game's website: http://sohni.net.ee (it's relevant because it accepts bitcoin donations Cheesy)

I have several ideas of developing new software for bitcoin and I hate the middle men. I registered to this forum to get involved in any bitcon related discussions.
