981  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BAMT version 0.5 - Easy USB based mining Linux with farm wide management tools on: August 27, 2012, 10:50:32 PM
Is it possible to update cgminer to the latest version on BAMT? Im a total linux noob as well as new to bitcoins. So far I have used the guiminer in windows and then switched to BAMT where I use the gui to set everything up. My command line experience is minimal, however Im eager to learn.

I want to use cgminer 1. just to try a different miner 2. to experiment/learn 3. to use the autofan feature to automatically adjust the fan speeds up and down as needed.

I have no idea how to even setup/use the cgminer thats included with BAMT so maybe thats a first step? But I figured the latest version might be more stable/faster/more features?

Where do I start?
982  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BAMT and Wireless - why does it drop, how do I fix? on: August 26, 2012, 10:55:52 PM
I also have issues with BAMT and wireless. I have 2 very similar machines one of which is hardwired and never has any issues while the second will drop the wifi connection at random. (normally seems to happen about 20min after I leave for work in the mornings. :/) Running the latest version with all "fixes".

I dont think there are many 8 card setups, most of what I have read is that it causes a lot of issues and isnt worth the hassle.

**outside, edited my post. sorry.

will check youtube.

So Ive seen the outside of these BFL mini rigs but never seen the inside. Does anyone have any pics of them? Im just curious as to the inner workings.

The singles as well, although I think Ive seen one or two pics of those.

Pool is up and running again.

I want to apologize that it was down for so long. I was on a guided tour of Batterie Dietl, german bunkers and coastal guns from WWII. I had only a cellphone and was far from my laptop. Perhaps stupid, but the pool was running smoothly and I thought it would be ok for a couple hours. Took a while before I was back to the laptop and could fix things.

Backup pools is still not implemented in BitMinter client, which of course makes downtime much worse. It is one of the top development priorities now, below supporting ASIC mining speeds better.

Not sure what caused the problem yet. But it may be the bug in cgminer 2.5 and below that we had problems with earlier. If you use cgminer please use the latest (2.6+) version. I am changing the server software to better handle a client bombarding it, but I haven't finished this work yet.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for all your hard work!

Yup.

This is the first time Ive ever had a pool fail on me, and apparently I have my backup pool in BAMT setup wrong... Sad

Can you have a backup pool in the bitminter client?

No clue, Ive only ever used gcminer and BAMT.

This is the first time Ive ever had a pool fail on me, and apparently I have my backup pool in BAMT setup wrong... Sad

want a good way to test backup pools in bamt?

make the main pool a wrong url, then it cannont contact it. then restart mining and see what happens Smiley.

Works like a charm here Wink

I'll try that, thanks!

990  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: undervolt 5850 on: August 21, 2012, 12:53:11 AM
I did some calculations before I started and based on that I wanted to try but after doing the same calculations again I get a different result. That plus the hassle makes me think I'll just stick with my overclocked/stock voltage settings. I had seen posts of a few people getting 875mhz on .95v on a 5870, i figured a 5850 could do similar but notmine... lol
991  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / undervolt 5850 on: August 20, 2012, 11:23:21 PM
anyone have any info on undervolting 5850's? I decided to give it a shot to reduce the electric bill and lower the heat given off but Im having some issues. I cant get them stable at even stock clocks! Is it really worth it? What clocks do you run undervolted? how far did you undervolt?

First come first served

The "trade-ups" should also be queued the same way.
993  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Problems using RPi with cgminer on: August 20, 2012, 07:48:12 PM
Perhaps my understanding is lacking, but why exactly?

Im also curious. I had planned on running my ModMiners from a single Pi.
994  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: mobo affect gpu overclock? on: August 20, 2012, 10:57:08 AM
Thats what I thought, just wanted a second opinion on it. Maybe I will swap out two cards...
995  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / mobo affect gpu overclock? on: August 20, 2012, 02:20:31 AM
Does the motherboard have any impact on the overclock of a gpu? I would assume not but I have 6 5850's, 3 in one system and 3 in another. The one system has all 3 overclocked to 900+mhz (920, 930 and 950) while the other 3 max out at 900mhz (800, 850 and 900mhz). Maybe just luck of the draw?

All stock BIOS and voltage too, btw.
996  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: blockchain on: August 19, 2012, 01:52:06 PM
Good info, thank you! A touch over my head, but Im still new to this whole Bitcoin idea so... I do think it will need optimized in the future, otherwise it will require a weeks worth of downloading on specialized hardware to even use and that may just kill bitcoins as the general public is not going to put up the cost just to use a different currency.
997  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: blockchain on: August 19, 2012, 01:20:11 AM
I dont understand how defraging will help the download speed... or anything else really for that matter. Care to explain?
998  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / blockchain on: August 18, 2012, 02:36:27 PM
When downloading the blockchain from the bitcoin client for the first time why does it seem to slow down as it gets closer to 100%? At first it was downloading what looked like 1000's of blocks a second and now I have 400 left and it has taken minutes to drop below that. Im on a 50MB connection too, btw.

On a side note... the total downloaded size is over 3GB right now. Imagine how big this thing will be in 10 years...
999  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [900 GH/s] BitMinter.com [Zero Fee, Hopper Safe, Merged Mining,Tx Fees Paid Out] on: August 18, 2012, 02:12:27 PM
NMC is too much hassle for me at this point, I dont have enough hash power to make it worth my while so Im donating 100% to you, as well as 3% BTC. Im new to this pool but so far I like it and would like to see it stay around awhile.

One suggestion, I dont know how hard it would be to do but it would be cool to have a graph that showed each workers hash rate over time like what BAMT shows. If that would be too much work both for you and the server (rendering that many graphs would require a bit of CPU power) maybe even a listing of the same. This way we could use it to help monitor our rigs by watching to see if the hash rate drops and roughly what time of day.

Just an idea.

Max I can get out of my 4850 is 90MH/s which doesnt do much more than pay for the electricity it uses... Its currently sitting on a shelf behind me...
