1  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: June 28, 2013, 09:00:05 AM
That's my assumption, people tend to give USA a hard time but I have had cause to visit several times and know from personal experience the average guy on the street is no different from anyone you would meet anywhere else in the world, I fail to believe that they all turned the donation off at the same time.  (The tourists you guys let out are another matter all together Tongue )

Neil

It worked fine tonight:
2  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: June 27, 2013, 06:08:28 AM
It does appear to have backfired on me though, the day before I released those stats I averaged 827.92 MH/s and after I released them a lot of people turned off their donate time and it dropped to a daily average of 212.79 MH/s.

Neil

You're still getting 15 minutes a day from my rig on the US west coast, so maybe it is a problem ozcoin. I'm busy tonight, but I'll check it out tomorrow and let you know if I find anything.

The rasb pi is not showing up on my router ?

You're probably looking at the DHCP client table, which only reports IP addresses that the router assigned. If you assign a static IP, it won't be on that list.

I configured minepeon 2013-06-11 for static ip.
ifconfig shows correct configuration but networking does not work , ie cannot ping google.

Without any routing information (a default route/gateway), it'll only be able to communicate with the network it's on. So, you should be able to ping your router, but not google.com, without a default route. You'll have to configure a default route to communicate with anything outside of your own network. If you're not sure how to do that, just let it use DHCP instead of setting a static IP.

I've just setup MinePeon-2013-06-11 and it's up and running, but how do I get the output of cgminer in my SSH client? Still learning Linux. . .

Code:
sudo screen -r

K16 sounds fine to me.  Does anyone have 6 extra chips I can buy who would be getting their work done here?  I ordered back when the most complete design was based on 10 chip boards, so I'm not divisible by 16 Smiley

I'll need 192 chips out of 200 that I ordered. I ordered extra to cover any duds, but if they all work, I'll have 8 extra.
6  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mitten Mining - Avalon ASIC Build and Assembly Services (Klondike, etc.) on: June 06, 2013, 11:56:14 PM
I've seen a lot of interest in the K64, which has not even been designed yet, while the K16 is undergoing testing as we speak. The 16 can be tied in a serial chain to other K16s, creating in essence a K64, or even a K256.

My expectation is that a K64 will have a lower part count that 4 x K16s, making it just a little bit less expensive. That said, if K64 boards aren't ready by the time my chips are delivered, I'll be having 12 x K16s.

In the mean time I have done a small 'mini' release for you guys to test.  The only difference is that it has the latest cgminer (3.2.0) and bfgminer (3.0.99).

Can some of you download and test it, it may very well work with the Block Eruptor USBs out of the box.

It does not. I'll mess with cgminer's config a bit and follow up shortly.

Follow up:
I'm not making any progress with the new version. For some reason it doesn't appear to load the same driver for the AM USB sticks. I used to get a /dev/ttyUSB# for each device, but not with this version. lsusb lists the hub and the miners, but cgminer doesn't find anything to mine with. I'm in over my head trying to make the new version work at this point, so I'm giving up for now and rolling back to the prior release.
8  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Need your help, new Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: June 06, 2013, 10:20:59 AM
I downloaded cgminer 3.1.1 and compiled it. But it isnt used as default when the pi is starting.
3.1.1 is working with my Block erruptor USB  but only if I start it manually via commandline.

Is there an easy way to automate this and have the stats in the webpage ?

I think the only solution for Block Erruptor USB is 3.1.1 so far..

I think you could replace /opt/minepeon/bin/cgminer with the one you compiled, then modify /usr/lib/systemd/system/cgminer.service with whatever command line options work for you. Finish up with systemctl --system daemon-reload. Then it should just start mining on boot.

I'll post results and power consumption shortly after I get my 4 sticks.

Results: The hub works great. It powers a Raspberry Pi with no backfeed issues. I only have 4 sticks, but I have no doubt the hub would run 7 of them, as I opened it up and found 2x 5V/3A regulators.

I plugged it into my Kill A Watt before work this morning. It was reading about 22 watts even. That's a 12V/12A PSU, USB hub, Raspberry Pi, and 4 USB ASICminers.

The 12V PSU is certainly not running very efficiently at such a low load. I should be able to save a few more watts by using a smaller power supply. I'll find a suitable wall-wart and update. I'll take some measurements on the DC side as well, which might be more useful for those who intend to go solar.

Surely that will be possible...

Awesome. =)
12  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Need your help, new Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: May 29, 2013, 05:50:49 AM
ah ok, i will try this out.

THanks a lot!

You're quite welcome. Have a look at this post for some quick & dirty instructions: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=195052.msg2300891#msg2300891
Let us know if/when it works, and if you need any help, please don't hesitate to ask.
13  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: One hub to rule them all ... on: May 29, 2013, 04:24:48 AM
So, I'd be safe to run 5 on this hub right?  You guys think we need to blow a fan on 'em?

I saw at least one person over in Arklan's group buy who claims that hub will run 10 sticks. Arklan said he's running 9 sticks in one (he didn't try 10).
I have a fan moving some air over my sticks. I doubt that it's really necessary, but it makes me feel better so I do it anyway.

Is it possible to mine using an android device? Like using and micro usb to regular usb adapter and using a powered hub

A Raspberry Pi can do it. It's linux, not android, but it's still an ARM CPU. It's a nice way to keep power consumption as low as possible. Check it out here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137934.0

I'm in for 3 K64s. Ordered 200 chips from SebastianJu. I'll see if he can ship the chips directly to you when the time comes.

mineforeman is working on an update which will make these USB sticks plug & play, but until then, here's how I got minepeon beta 1 working with them now. *There may be a better way, this is just how I did it.

At the command line:
1. type (or copy/paste)
Code:
sudo nano /usr/lib/systemd/system/bfgminer.service
Now you're looking at a simple text editor
2. use the down arrow to find the line that starts with "ExecStart=" This is the command that will start bfgminer
3. on that line, use the right arrow to find "bfgminer -S auto"
4. change "-S auto" to "-S /dev/ttyUSB0" for a single miner, or "-S /dev/ttyUSB0 -S /dev/ttyUSB1" etc for multiple sticks
5. press ctrl+x to exit. nano will ask if you want to save your changes, press y.
6. type
Code:
sudo systemctl stop cgminer.service
(Stops cgminer)
7. type
Code:
sudo systemctl disable cgminer.service
(Stops cgminer from starting at boot)
8. type
Code:
sudo systemctl enable bfgminer.service
(Makes bfgminer start at boot)
9. type
Code:
sudo systemctl start bfgminer.service
(Starts bfgminer) You should now be mining, use the next steps to check
10. type
Code:
sudo screen -r
to display the miner's console interface, check to make sure it's mining
11. hold ctrl and tap a then d to exit back to the prompt without killing bfgminer

If you have any trouble, feel free to PM me. I'll provide as much help as I'm able.

Hi,

I also tried Minepeon out but I got some problems with an Icarus based device.

Minepeon doesnt detect my Lancelot FPGA device, is it supposed to work or is the Lancelot Board not supported?
Or are there other things to run or install in order to get the board detected?

Thanks
Best regards

Try the included version of bfgminer. It works for me.

For Raspberry Pi users, Mineforeman.com is working on the software MinePeon (http://mineforeman.com/2013/05/26/minepeon-beta-1-code-name-butterfly-bob-released/). Beta 1, out 2 days ago, would detect and use our USB Gizmos, but it's untested yet as they don't have any USB Asic Miner and are still waiting for it.

I had problems with this version, as I can't access the stats page. I already discussed this with them and they are trying to bypass the problem. Previous alpha versions don't have support to this kind of Gizmos.

cgminer doesn't want to recognize the USB sticks, but the included version of bfgminer works just fine for now.

I just hope my Minepeon install works without any hitch.

Don't worry, it'll work. =)
I only had a few minutes to mess with it between when the mail showed up and when I had to leave for work, but I can confirm that the latest minepeon will run these with bfgminer.
You'll have to tweak the command a little bit, but I can walk you through that. I'll mess with it some more when I have some free time and see if I can get cgminer working as well.

Arklan: It was a pleasure doing business with you.

Hopefully that will work just fine for you.

However, USB 2.0 (spec'd at .5 amp per port) just doesn't seem to allow any power overhead.  Wouldn't it be better use a USB 3.0 like this one, to guarantee 1.5 amps per port:

http://www.coolgear.com/productdetails1.cfm?sku=USBG-7U3ML&cats=434

What about just popping them into open blue USB ports on our rigs?

Hopefully, indeed. I thought about going with a USB 3.0 hub for the extra current as well.
Friedcat said that the sapphire batch draws 500-510mA, so it should be fine, but we shall see.
Either way, I'll post results and power consumption shortly after I get my 4 sticks.
