142  Economy / Economics / Re: Occupy Wall Street Protestor on Federal Reserve on: October 05, 2011, 10:35:18 PM
Unfortunately, no one gives a crap about #occupywallstreet. The big news is how they arranged the protest, not the actual views of the protestors.

I support the protests, but to be fair, they are just some hundreds. And for the size of the protest they are receiving a lot of media attention, a lot more than other bigger protests.

The size of the protests are far larger than some hundreds.
143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OccupyLA on 10/1 !! We will be there in Bitcoin Attire! Financial Revolution! on: October 05, 2011, 12:54:18 PM
So do we have a donation address for OccupyLA yet?

They dont, they arent the brightest. I am over it. Its sad to see so many dumb people that are willing to do something about their beliefs.

I believe that we have to first come to an understanding that many people who lack education and intelligence are also the product of this current failing system. This understanding is the foundation where people can build a new system on. Without this, we are no better than the Wall St thugs that justifies their actions because they think the rest of the world deserves exactly what they are getting. First knowing the current system has failed, which is happening now, then helping each other understand the real problem out of love that comes from that common understanding is how we will change this world.
144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paypal Strikes Again, This is an Opportunity for BTC to Prove its Value on: October 05, 2011, 12:42:52 PM
up to a total of nearly BTC 100 donated in 1 week, I like how everyone can automaticaly see all of these donations too if they wish - an added bonus that prior forms of donating to things didn't have & that may appeal to other fund raisers - it's a bit like seeing the graphic of a thermometer that fills up to the target/s if set, like say 1,000 Btc to fix the church roof, 10,000 Btc to build a school house, etc

This transparency in accounting is one of the qualities I love about bitcoin. I hope if the world accepts bitcoin one day, that all coorporate spending will be as transparent for all because the laws will require them to use a public address. That way we can keep them accountable. This goes the same with Gov't as well I suppose. The people need to be involved somewhere in this failing check and balance system that exists today.

Will this be THE Alternative coin?  Given that it has solved the vulnerabilities plaguing other coins.

The future looks bright indeed.

yup just like all the other alt coins. it's looks just as bright if not more.

I might even say it's worth it if you enjoy reading about bitcoins. It's covers all the basics without bias imo and the best article I've read covering bitcoin by media. I espcially enjoyed reading about Satoshi investigation and the quote "Bitcoin will survive a nuclear attack".  Grin

152  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGOX Withdrawal issue on: October 03, 2011, 03:23:25 AM
My account was under review after the phishing attacks due to multiple ip log in. Took about a week for them to get things back to normal with some emailing back a forth, but my withdrawals to Dwolla takes only minutes.

you got a reply from aml@mtgox.com ?

my last reply from them was *2 weeks* ago!

so someone recommends i leave a personal message for mark in irc... did that on thursday, friday and now today.

i've also last week sent a PM to 'mtgox support' on this forum, who also said they forwarded my issue to support.

It took 4 days for me to first hear from Mark after sending my first email on Sept.10 to aml@mtgox.com

I did see a pasted irc chat saying they had over 2000 account flagged for review due to earlier phishing attacks, so I wasn't too worried though at the time.

Take a deep breath and write them an email expecting at least about two day delay or log on to #mtgox support channel on freenode and speak directly to MagicalTux or Neo about your concern. This is probably the fastest way to get some answers.

I hope all of you guys can get your access to your funds asap.
154  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are the major hurdles you feel BitCoin faces to mainstream acceptance? on: October 02, 2011, 08:53:43 PM
Many people use cash for day-to-day transactions, but the majority of USD and other currencies is stored by financial institutions that provide protection and insurance of one's funds.  If Bitcoin were to have such protection and insurance, its utility would greatly rise.

They can insure the funds, because they can print more money to pay it back anytime. The problem is that when the print more money, it's only taking the value from existing money in circulation rather than creating out of thin air like you would want to believe. It's only redistributing wealth that people already had which was stored in pre existing money in circulation. Bitcoin you don't need the insurance of people's wealth paying back the money because the value already comes from the trust among the people who use bitcoin. If you want to keep it safe, then you simply need to back up the file properly instead of trusting another person or corporation to hold you money and loan it to others at interest.

Ok,
I got a private meeting with the financial committee tonight at the GA, and we discussed taking bitcoin as donations.
They are running a background check on me, and then it looks like I will be heading the bitcoin donations dept. Smiley
The best part is, it is highly encouraged to buy actual products for the occupiers, so this should allow for the use of bitcoins as donations and should spike the economy because some people will buy products for the protesters with bitcoins!!

We will post some videos of tonight's discussions soon on youtube.

Please, if you are coming out, post here and let everyone know. We will need bitcoiners to explain the benefits of competing currencies and the added benefits of crypto currencies and decentralization.

This is awesome news WiseOldOwl. It's gonna be a exciting start for #occupyla and I am going to be there as well at Pershing Square today.

I share the sentiment that this opportunity isn't just for accepting donations via bitcoin, but also for the local nearby merchants and members of the assembly who wish to show support can also accept bitcoin payments. This way the GA organizers at all #occupy locations can simply accept donations all over the world and spend them directly for their needs. If this bitcoin economy starts to form within the organizations working in solidarity all over the world, it's exactly the spark we need to light up the idea that is bitcoin. Doing this and completely leaving the centralized financial institutions out from handling the finances of the #occupy movement is surely going to be a wise choice down the road imo.
160  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: DONOR THREAD for #OccupyWallStreet Bitcoin Promotion on: September 29, 2011, 11:01:32 PM
The page is looking good. Both the mobile and the normal version.

And as for the slogan if it were upto me, I would go with something like "Currency of the Resistance" or something similar.

Probably a lot more provocative and extreme than many here would want to go with, but it's what I like.
It sorta stuck with me since Max Keiser used it a while back in his show and I think it will stick with the movement like glue.

As time will surely prove, the fund for the movement will not be safe with banks for long.
It's just a matter of time they will have to rely on bitcoin similar to Wikileaks imho.
