221  Economy / Goods / Re: Mexican food, tamales, homemade tortillas etc Test Run Just Pay Shipping on: August 25, 2012, 03:27:55 PM
Could you post some pictures?

Looks like I missed the trial run but if all went well I look forward to seeing what it cost to buy some.
222  Economy / Goods / Re: Would you buy mexican food, tamales, homemade tortillas etc w/btc? on: August 23, 2012, 03:25:17 AM
I'm not sure I'd order anything that required dry ice to ship as I'd be afraid of the high shipping cost plus things that can go wrong there.   But as long as the cost was low enough I would probably try homemade tortillas for sure.  I hope you'll look into it and let us know how much it would cost to make/ship and be worth your time.

The motherboard and cpu came well packaged and shipped quickly.  Came with original packages and manuals and everything.  They are hooked up and working great.  Thanks!

I don't know how to autostart bitminter's java app once you get it loaded but you could try using some other command line miner and point to mint.bitminter.com:8332 with your username_worker and password.
226  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Feedback from Tor user about bitcointalk.org and freenode #bitcoin* on: August 02, 2012, 10:07:17 PM

To get BTC anonymously I can only buy paysafecard offline and convert into BTC. Everything else can be traced. And in this forum I've seen most threads about this kind of exchange.

There is no such statement that anonymous people are not welcome here.

If you look in the Marketplace most transactions here are non-anonymous ones.

And nobody said anonymous people aren't welcome here.  It's just not the focus here like it is on .onion sites.
227  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Feedback from Tor user about bitcointalk.org and freenode #bitcoin* on: August 02, 2012, 09:13:23 PM
There are plenty of .onion websites out there that allow you to use bitcoins anonymously.

Bitcoin is for both the completely anonymous and for more traditional transactions.
This forum and the freenode #bitcoin* channels are for the other side.

I just received my order of the Cherry Chocolate Dessert Bread today.  It is super delicious.
They even fulfilled my request to draw a penguin on the box.

230  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining securities and depreciation on: July 29, 2012, 10:31:48 PM
Short version:

This would give the security a buy back value at the end which would allow it to be bought/sold/have value right up until it closes.

Google has a decent set up with eclipse for the gui design, sdk, code editor and they have a few pages that make it easy to set up.
If you are new to java you'll do a lot of swearing at how verbose it is compared to C and python.

The basics of it is that the configuration of the apps and the GUI are designed by XML files.
The application logic is defined by java type classes in the code files.
You'll do a whole lot of extending existing classes in order to get stuff done.

Really you just need to spend a few days diving in.. I suggest you come up with some really simple project to start off with and then just google your way to completing it.

What happens when you are no longer new to btc?  will you scrap that forum account and start a new one?
236  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: FPGA recommended? on: July 20, 2012, 06:38:17 PM
I have always wanted to get into mining, but know I missed the prime time. If I were to invest in an ASIC/ASICs, is there a chance I could make profit off of it?(or at least pay it off). When they first come out, will that be the best time to buy them?

Well it's all speculation.  I don't want to try and estimate if/when you'd make money by investing in ASIC hardware.  The only thing that seems certain is that if ASIC turns out to produce anywhere near it's estimated hashes/second with as many people as have preordered the gear already that trying to mine on non-ASIC gear will be near useless.

If I were forced to guess, I would say that there would be a spike in profit for those that were the first to preorder and thus had the hardware in the network first.  Then as the hardware becomes more available all the miners will be using the gear and the investment to return will be about the same.

Also of note, is the number of bitcoins to enter the economy per day is going to half probably around the end of this year (December?).  How that plays out with the bitcoin value might affect your calculations as well.
237  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: FPGA recommended? on: July 20, 2012, 03:55:34 PM
Yeah, with ASICS coming out it wouldn't seem wise to put money into FGPA's now.

I suppose if you must you might consider the singles by bfl since they offer trade in value on their ASICS preorders.  They seem to take a long time to get to you though from what people say.  You might not even get it before it's time to trade it in.  You might find someone to sell you one of theirs but I don't think there are a whole lot of them out there that people are willing to give up and people already offering inflated prices for them.

So far, they sit in my wallet wasting away.
239  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What determines when the right time to buy/sell BTC is? on: July 20, 2012, 03:44:26 PM
From what I can tell, you'll get a whole lot of opinions on whether it's going up or going down but nobody knows squat.  The greatest minds will wax poetic about the reasons for the surge/fall just after said surge/fall happens.  You can look at charts and see for yourself that btc is a very volatile market.  Just start out small with a few small transactions and get a feel for it yourself.
