41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin on Wikipedia: You guys need press coverage. on: April 13, 2013, 09:06:08 PM
I have started the fundraiser and the work has begun.  Please contribute to cover costs.  Once the initial work is done I am sure there will be a lot of community feedback. Following this, I will look for people to do translations in different languages.

44  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: P2Pool Server List on: April 09, 2013, 09:18:23 AM
Hello Everyone,

We have developed a P2Pool node scanner which allows users to see a list of public P2Pool nodes.

This currently works for Litecoin.  We will be adding support for Bitcoin in coming days.

If you have any suggestions, please post them here http://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/topic,2013.0.html as I check this forum more often then bitcointalk.

Enjoy!
45  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC fork? on: April 07, 2013, 04:54:40 PM
How can she fork?

Bug in the software? I hear that the Litecoin client is not maintained very well.

Actually, litecoin client is very well maintained by a team of very competent developers.  The fact that is has 0.6.3c in the version doesn't mean anything as this version already integrates most of bitcoin 0.7.x features.

The overall mentality of the development behind litecoin is "reliability first".  Litecoin tends to stay one major release behind bitcoin in order to ensure that nothing bad happens.  It is sort of like debian vs. ubuntu.  Ubuntu is always new and shiny, but developers of debian (from which ubuntu was derived) consider reliability and security to be highest priority.  As the result, debian doesn't always have latest features and generally lags behind in updates, but when updates do come, one is certain that these updates have been tested and have been running in other system variants reliably for a long period of time.
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Possible bounty for blockchain.info-style Litecoin web-wallet on: April 06, 2013, 06:38:14 AM
blockchain.info is based on bitcoinjs:  https://github.com/bitcoinjs

This project would basically require porting bitcoinjs back-end and front-end to work with Litecoin.

Technologies that should be used are NodeJS, MongoDB, jQuery
47  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to buy Rucoin? on: April 06, 2013, 05:13:58 AM
Rucoin is dead.  Also Rucoin has been premined to "fund the development".

BTC-E supposedly closed withdrawal of Rucoin over a month ago.
48  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: LTC GPU Mining...Where's the downside? on: April 06, 2013, 04:50:48 AM
I would say at this point that if you are to build a rig that would cost you let's say $1000, then at this particular point in time it would be better (IMHO) to simply buy LTC with the same money and sit on it for half a year.

Otherwise, calculate your profitability/ROI carefully.  Also keep in mind that large miners ARE and WILL be switching over to LTC, which means that your mining reward may be falling. (there are many factors, also depend on the price at the moment, but once ASICs come in, price effects will be different).

Do not worry about this.  Ignore the message for now.  Once 8.x upgrade is released the warning will go away.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best litecoin pool? on: April 06, 2013, 04:20:11 AM
I use litecoinpool.org and coinotron.com as a backup.

Research p2pool. That is a very good solution also as majority of pools are under constant DDoS attacks.
51  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC in CANADA on: April 06, 2013, 04:17:12 AM
It is very unfortunate, but for the last few months bitcoins have been extremely overpriced in Canada (comparing to other markets).

I use cavirtex.com.  It is extremely convenient because they accept bill payment from BMO, so I just pay the bill and next day my money is there.  (they have other methods like direct deposit).

I have also wired money to MtGox via a regular bank transfer.  That worked well, but did cost about $20.

Never used bitcoinscanada.com ...looks interesting.

So what's next, KiloCoin?  MegaCoin?

Maybe Google should release Google Coin?  That would be even more superior.

Absurd...

Hello,

Would like to make a whitelist request.  I've been reading forums for years, but never post.  I became more pro-active with recent Litecoin developments and would like to make few posts.

Thank you,

55  Other / Beginners & Help / Long term LTC trade charts & block chain statistics available! on: April 01, 2013, 12:15:08 PM
If moderators can move this message to Alternate Cryptocurrencies, I would appreciate.  Thank you.

Hello Everyone,

I would like to make an early announcement for http://ltc.block-explorer.com which is a new Block Explorer that is currently being developed for Litecoin.

The site is not finished yet, however, we are making an early announcement because of the much needed chart section (which is ready).  You can find the charts here:  http://ltc.block-explorer.com/charts

These charts have a mix of things, ranging from block chain statistics to long term BTC-E charts (since the beginning of LTC trading).

Once again, the site is currently under active development, so it may experience slow-downs or downtime in the next few days. It is also currently rebuilding the database, which means that address information (per-address transactions and balances) is NOT CURRENTLY VALID.

Please let me know if anyone has any questions or suggestions.
56  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Protecting LTC by bringing extra Hashing Power in on: July 26, 2012, 03:24:17 PM
I have converted my 8Gh/BTC to 8Mh/LTC few weeks ago.  Mining LTC has been more profitable then BTC for few weeks already, almost 2:1... although the difficulty is rising...

I have switched solo for the next few days.  If you have significant amount of processing power, you should mine solo as pools may fall under DDOS attack and go down, thus excluding you from the network.

What type of hardware setup do you have?  Do you have a GPU available for mining?
