Sounds like the coins were sent to an external address that you have sent to before. Try figuring out who owns that sending address and ask them for the money back. Otherwise you probably won't see those coins again.

I imagine someone would have come up with gambling by now. It is just human nature to compete, against systems, against others, etc. Gambling is another form of entertainment as well just like going to a movie or watching a concert. When used for entertainment value, I feel you always win.

Welcome! As some others have said beware of loans on BTCJam. I have had 0 luck there, someone always defaults and messes up the ROI even when spread out. There just seems to be too much fraud there to make a honest profit.
