141  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GLBSE 2.0 open for testing on: August 25, 2012, 10:57:32 AM
This isn't an issue with GLBSE (find another bitcoin exchange that does this), the reality is, if an issuer asked to get taken off GLBSE and get the needed details of account holders of his share we would do it.

Ok so it is a issue with all exchanges, at this point in time I only looked at glbse, it doesn't take away that it remains a problem.

If I where to issue shares to investors I would want to protect these investors and make sure there is little to no chance of me having to break my word towards them. The solution you offer still requires you (as glsbe) to be active and responsive, no mater how match trust I have in you, there is always the risk of something happening and me losing access to data I need to continue normal operations.

Having access to take snapshots of said data on my end would minimize the risk for both me and investors. If investors truly want to remain anonymous you could link a external btc address provided by them in staid of a email or just add a opt out option (that explains the risk) in there settings.

As it stands now there is just one entity that holds the data, even if there is sufficient trust this is still a risk I'm not comfortable with.
142  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GLBSE 2.0 open for testing on: August 25, 2012, 09:28:03 AM
I can't login with my account and pwd, and if I want to reset my pwd, internal error always raises

I have been locked out for almost 2 day's now, exact same deal, at some point I did manage to get password reset email but even after following that and changing the password. I'm still locked out ... lucky for me it was a test account.

Edit: First Problem now fixed, thx to random guy. After a failed login, password rested, ... you are forced to use captcha. Not sure how or when but the login at top bar won't work anymore, you have to go true the page with a captcha on it!

The other issue we found in glbse is that there is no way for the issuer to check/verify and/or backup who owns shares. This would basically mean if the site is taken or forced down there is no way to keep dividends going, people that invested in your company are just lost and there is absolutely nothing you can do about that!

Compared to the later the first one just a miner hick-up and yes we did contact them on both issues. They are working on some solution for the later, no reply as of yet to the first (it's been bumped up support chain)  Roll Eyes

:: Changes Made to "Public Investors Contract (GLBSE Contract)"
Due to some discussions on irc and now forums we decided to make 2 changes to the public contract. Changes are to emphasis on growth and to keep value of hard assets stable.

Change to Point D: minimal payout is changed from 50 to 20%, this means we will have a sliding 80% growth fund to keep value of existing hard assets in the account up and to make sure operations remain profitable. We did not want to set a fixed amount, from our point of view that would have been unfair to investors because there are to many variables involved. The main one being value of btc towards other currencies, second big one is hash rate vs difficulty.

Added point I: We added a clause that allows us to sell hardware, this will be used to replace hardware before it loses all it's value and or to replace inefficient hardware with newer more efficient hardware. This was in the planning but we just wanted to make 100% clear to possible investors.

:: Other Tibits

Website building is slow, I forgot how match I hate and suck at front end design ...

Decision has been made to order at least some asic equipment from the initially funds, what the devision ratio for asic/pc is not final yet.

Test rig is runny smoothly, the system now boots over the network using pxe, so we have no need for hard drives or usb sticks any more. This also means less work to manage the servers, all we have to do is update the server setup, remote reboot the machines and be done with it.

Numbers, you guy's probably want numbers, all in good time  Lips sealed
144  Economy / Securities / Re: Is there any 100% growth mining companies ? on: August 24, 2012, 03:00:25 PM
We could also petition a current company to decrease dividends. The biggest hindrance is fraud IMHO. How do you keep the operator honest?

Transparency and public accounting ? ofc that does not protect against theft, but then again nothing protects against theft, not even with laws in place, resent Facebook numbers prove that if you ask me ....

As to 100% question ? I can't see this go well, maybe for short time period but in long run you will lose interest. 50/50 would work best in my eye's with extra shares being issued now and then to boost growth.

147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PUSH Me / PULL U on: August 24, 2012, 12:52:11 AM
I agree, A pull would open the door to payment reversals, the exact same thing so many people here hate about credit cards, paypal, ... This is alone is the reason way I would stay away from any service and or system that implemented a pull system on top of bitcoin.

Sure a pull system is very convenient for both costumers and business owners alike but in most cases this convenience does (or should) not out weight the risk and hassle created by fraudulent pull requests. but yha you already said it was a flawed system so Smiley

I would simply request monthly payment 7 day's before due and give em to 7 day's after, if payment did not come true cut off service, I agree this is a bit of hassle atm. But on the other hand it would not be hard to setup requiring payments from client wallet to yours, just a mater of time till such functions will be build in to exciting wallet applications. Simple, Clean and safe for both parties!

edit: got to stop watching porn while typing, basically yha what guy above me said.

I wonder what sort of BS customs gives you about receiving silver from overseas.

I know I don't have to pay export on it, do you have to pay import ? in eu no, other places I'm not sure  Embarrassed
It is a small amount, sent from person to person so it might just slip by.

149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's your Aim? on: August 23, 2012, 03:03:21 PM
The usual: find a need, come up with way to serve it, build a viable solution and prove that it works, move on to next thing.

Making some money to pay for bills and upkeep along the way is always fun ofc Cool

Once ASIC comes you still have the GPU for litecoin mining and to heat your buildings.
...
Once ASIC comes you still have the GPU for litecoin mining and to heat your buildings.

Exactly, it theory it's even possible to heat it with fpga or asic buts sins heat generated by electronic device is directly linked to it's power consumption, the amount of fpga's or asic's to generate sufficient heat would result in a unrealistic startup cost per building. At this point in time it is still profitable to mine with gpu's and we hope ltc will keep it that way for some time. Starting off with gpu's and keeping part of net profits for growth should allow us to expand in to asic (or other tech/coins) to deal with rising difficulty and keep cost/profits of a system in check.

At some point I even wrote down a plan to do a start with cheap fpga modules in a smaller building, it was viable and allot more profitable in theory but with asic around the corner these modules just seemed like a very bad investment.

Atm we are not charging anything for heat generated and we pay 100% of the electrical bill. This is why we are focusing on community buildings and we do inform them this might not hold up in future but that we will do our best to keep the cost as low as possible. If crypto currency hit critical mass or some other commercially viable need for a distributed network like this emerges there is nothing holding us back from contacting commercial entities and charging a small percentage for the heat.

152  Economy / Securities / Re: Proposal: Swed Crypto Mining IPO :: BTC/LTC/... Mining with a twist on: August 21, 2012, 12:38:33 AM
Ok, I should have know a talk about the concept wasn't gone take off in this part of the forum, however in the past week things kinda hit high speed, agreements where made, papers filed and birth of small new company is imminent.

Over the weekend the decision was made that we would at least try to get funding for a public investors account no mater how small it would be, as result I decided to edit this topic and go from concept to a open proposal to you the investor.

In the first post we have outlined what we believe (and in part where told) are best guidelines and rules to push this concept from idea to reality, Q&A was moved to second post and if I find time I'l post more about how we got to this stage. So now it's your time to speak, I will put a IPO on to glbse next week. If you are interested in the concept but don't like some of the rules or you think something is missing, tell me what and why, I will consider adding and/or changing some. Please keep in mind we are in this for the long run and not for fast high profits, we want to push this far beyond a simple mining operation and take you along for the ride.

154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Promoting and Explaining Bitcoins to outsiders ? on: August 19, 2012, 03:57:34 PM
You have to show it to them.

To some extend I agree but after showing they usually expect some short extra push.

I have been using the first one for past few weeks sins I'm trying to convince people to let me install specific hardware in to there space. Just showing and not explaining what said hardware does will not pull them over.

The second one I used on my dad, who has absolutely no technical/economical interest but has a strong believe in liberties and a free market (at least to some degree  Roll Eyes). He currently is working on a bitcoin related project with me so it must have hit the spot.

So yha not talking about randomly pushing people to use it, that never works, but about 'Sales pitch' to people that have a interest in what you are doing before you even mention bitccoins.
155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Sales Pitch: Promoting and Explaining Bitcoins to outsiders ? on: August 19, 2012, 02:45:12 PM
I would love to see small messages you use to promote and/or explain what bitcoins are and why the system is so amazing. Let me start it off with my two favorite promotional explenations ...

=> My first refrence is a adjusted version of a talk given by Yochai Benkler of Harvard Law School . This talk was not related to bitcoins but my mind linked it to the possibilities of bidcoins and it stuck. I think the best audience for this is business people and people with interest in markets and economics.

Quote
For the first time in hundreds of years we can freely perform and confirm reliable transactions without the expenses created by large institutions. This allows us to let more of our money work for us and less to cover the expenses associated with the institutions we used to use.

With bitcoins we hold in our hands the tools we need to break the link between a expensive institutions and the needs of people and corporations alike. With the tools at hand, we no longer need to rely on these institutions to perform and confirm long distance transactions and we no longer need to pay the cost associated with the institutions that have been doing this up till now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iffW_GWBQIU (Start: 47 Min, Quote:  50,04Min)

=> The second reference I would pick is from Rick Falkvinge of the Pirate party. The text below is a adjusted and compressed version of a talk he gave at the bitcoin conference in Europe. This one probably best kept for a more progressive and open public: friends, parents, geeks ...

Quote
For thousands of years there have been gate keepers that protect the status quo in our society, these gate keepers have come and gone as time passed on. In our current age we can find them in large institutions that not only handle interaction between humans but also regulate and limit them.

The function of a so called gate keeper is to controlling the flow of information and goods between the people. The general public usually looks at gate keeper as a obstacle they need to avoid or try to get around, the gate keepers them selfs usually believes the majority of humans are unable to decide what is best for them and that they are there to protect the best interest of all.

Usually this concept of gate keepers collides with the needs of both the people and the free market, they need 3 very basic things from a service, they need it to be cheap, fast and flexible. If a service provided by a gate keeper can be improved on at least two of these points it has a high chance of failing in the future.

A break down of gate keepers that have or are falling:
Spreading information and goods:
- Postal Service are expensive and slow > E-mail is cheap and fast
- Retail Stores are expensive and limiting > Online Shops are cheap and flexible.
Protecting information and goods:
- Copyright is expensive and limiting > Copyleft is Free and Flexible
Informing about events and goods:
- News  - expensive, slow and limiting > Blogs, Youtube - Free and Fast and Flexible
Value of information and goods:
- Banks - expensive, slow and limiting > Bitcoins – Free, Fast and Flexible

Correct 2 Sets.

I would like to point out to people besides auction there is a game aspect.
Risk/Reward type, i did not simply decide to trow 50% of value away Wink

The start bit was 50% silver spot vs btc value at time of creation ...
How high do you think btc will go in remaining 6 day's!
Or do you believe in a magical jump of silver ?

Status:
1) at 4.00 Btc
2) at 3.50 Btc
