101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: March 05, 2014, 04:38:26 AM
I understand moderators don't want heavily spammed threads but ipos, selling shares, equal distributions all result in posts being made.
Really? I'm sure that you can be creative and figure out a way to do these things such that no posts are made here. You could do it on an external site or by PM.

Why am I not aloud to sell shares on the forum it clearly isn't a giveaway.
You are. You just can't encourage low-value posts.

I guess I could do it by pm or in a similar fashion like that, although I didn't consider that at first because I didn't consider my thread a giveaway thread. I can see how people claiming their stake can be seen as a low value post but I just thought it was better for transparency but if this isn't allowed I will rework the format. Can you unban me though since we both seem to be slightly in the wrong here?
You'll have to use the standard appeals process, which means emailing your appeal to the appeal email address you are given when you use the banned account.

Like "Beware, new coins are often scams, tread carefully and be cautious about putting your money in a coin just being released, chances are you will eventually lose it all, be sure to think critically."

There is a warning by Gavin that's stickied there.
Maybe we should do the warning Securities-board-style...? Not that I think that it will really help...

I was distributing my coins through equal share distribution. This means everyone get's an equal share for a fee. I made the first 5 pages fee=0 then 5+ pages 0.002btc each with a changing rate as pages increased. This is a similar sales method as NEM. The thread had already reached 5+ [ages and I was collected btc when the thread was locked and my account was banned for 2 weeks under the offence of running an alt-coin giveaway. However this wasn't an altcoin giveaway and I feel like I was wrongly banned. Is their anyway I can get a moderator to look at my thread and unlock it and also unban me? I put a lot of work into this new protocol and "coin" that I had built and I hate for it to hit a roadblock or even complete stop like this. Thanks.

My Username is: CryptoCasino
and the thread was: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=499415.120 Huh
No, that is very blatantly against the rules.

Rule of thumb: if we have to delete more than a few posts from the first few pages of your thread due to lack of content, you probably violated the rules. You will not be unbanned early and the thread will not be unlocked.

But their are other coins that use equal distribution to distribute their coins NEM, BitXfund etc. Why are their threads allowed to continue while mine gets locked? Can I please just get a moderator to look into this?

how is this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=499216.80 not considered a giveaway thread and mine is?
Thanks! I have removed the thread and requested a ban for the user.

We keep it around as a trashbin of sorts. It's either we move threads about alt-coins there, or we delete posts about them altogether. That's why we don't have many sections there. That's also why we usually don't moderate anything there unless it is reported.

We don't want to censor alt-coins like so many other forums on the internet censored Bitcoin back in the day. Seriously, there was a time where if you even mentioned Bitcoin on another forum, it was an automatic delete and ban.

It'd be funny if a bot copied one of the posts in this thread haha.

Every post since the 19th contained a point already brought up in the thread, except slightly re-worded. Banned the account, but left the posts from the 19th and earlier in place. Same for pakotako.

It seems the bots are getting smarter.

Looks like a Donator account was maybe hacked:

I have too see 12 years a slave, looks like a good movie. As for Hobbit I slept through the first part, can't make myslelf watch the second one. The Bilbo's house party, which in the book is just a few pages, takes forever to watch in the movie. He made it soo boring there's not even a shadow of LOTR epicness left in this movie.

Verified. Deleting all posts made this year and banning the user.

Income tax should go as the government doesn't need to know how much you're making, but I understand property tax to maintain roads and organize basic emergency services. If income tax pays for schools, that's another reason for it to go. Public schools have failed everywhere.

Done. While I was cleaning that up and fixing the quotes, I found this pretty funny:
I think we really just need to give it some time to see how it plays out.  Per what theymos has said part of it is based off of age of feedback, so we won't really know for a few months.  Plus if it is bad it can always be changed/removed.

It was implemented in May 2013... I think it's had time to play out already  Tongue
108  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox source code leaked ... on: March 03, 2014, 06:47:30 PM
Are you sur this code was not theft back in 2011 ?
That was my thought. Does anyone know what the Eligius-MtGox partnership was formed? I know that it was it 2011, I just don't know the exact day.

It was estimated that MtGox was hacked by no less than 10 separate groups back in 2011 (one of which leaked the user DB, as we all know), so this could absolutely still be fallout from that.
109  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Does Anyone Have A Copy Of Any Mt Gox User Agreement on: February 28, 2014, 04:56:54 AM
Other than changing their address, this should be close enough:

110  Economy / Gambling / Re: One thread per site ONLY on: February 28, 2014, 02:20:16 AM
how come ritzgrandcasino is getting away getting his thread closed by posting sex sex and he can start another one on top of that, instead Mods could give him a warning.
It doesn't look like he is doing anything wrong. The point of this rule is to prevent spam, and locking the old threads does a good job of that.

and Plus he can moderate his room, did he pay you guys to get that right to mod a room when he has a newbie account?
Anyone can select to self-moderate a thread when they make it.

ok can he keep bumping his threads? cause i have screen shots he did this 4 times already and held screen shot showing time changes
We generally allow bumps once every 24 hours. There's more to the rule than that, but that's the important part.

112  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: February 28, 2014, 01:22:10 AM
The whole forum seems completely unmoderated - this is very especially evident when going to the speculation section.
Believe it or not, but this is intentional. If it seems like the forum is moderated, then we're doing our job wrong.

I also don't really like that my eMail address is shown to the moderator that reads the report. Don't get why that is needed.
That's mainly a holdover from the original SMF reporting system, which only sent out reports by email. The only reason we keep it around is that some of us use it to be notified immediately if certain high-priority keywords are used in a report.
113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AndroidsTokens - ADT - proof of stake Coin - 66 Billion - Trade on Cryptsy! on: February 26, 2014, 01:11:37 AM
I have sent the mods a message asking for this thread to be locked and I will be locking the repair thread
jagrapolite5 doesn't wish for this thread to be locked, so we cannot approve your request.

Jag abandoned ADT a few weeks back there is now a new blockchain and a new ANN thread this thread makes it hard for the users of ADT to get up to date info as post 1 cannot be updated to provide the information that the users need
Doesn't matter. He never put you in charge, you just did that yourself. Therefore, that ADT is not the real ADT and I cannot lock this thread.
114  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitcoinica liquidator wants to hear from users on: February 26, 2014, 01:07:41 AM
I really actually blame the fucking liquidators for just sitting on the 100k and doing nothing and blowing through the money.

I am not out of hope for all of this, but it doesn't look good either, obviously.

if gox "lost" 750,000 btc its over.

Don't you think our coins would be segregated from their main exchange wallets??  Wasn't there a post to show what address the coins were in.. or am I imagining all of that?
Nope. In fact, since the funds were in a "banned" account, MtGox isn't even classifying it as a liability. Effectively, MtGox claimed the funds for themselves.

116  Other / Meta / Re: Ponzi world taking over gambling section on: February 25, 2014, 10:59:24 PM
Most of these meet the notability requirements, so I now completely agree that a new section is needed.
117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][PIG] PiggyCoin - A coin for youngsters and newcomers! on: February 25, 2014, 10:55:38 PM
Cleaned out the giveaways. This is your only warning, for I will not be unlocking this again.
118  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CoinBase Ran Out Of Coins ... [BLANK STARE] on: February 25, 2014, 06:46:09 AM
Congratulations, Armis, I think you've discovered a new economic indicator: Coinbase hot-wallet BTC inventory

When they tell you they're "out", thus creating the appearance that a buying spree is taking place, that is a very negative indicator.  Expect bitcoin to plummet.
Yup, reminds me of the Bitcoinica starfish.
119  Economy / Gambling / Re: should Ponzi's be in the gambling section? on: February 20, 2014, 01:11:58 AM
Alas, most of the ponzi sites are legitimately unique. They might use the same backend, but the websites themselves are totally custom.
120  Economy / Gambling / Re: should Ponzi's be in the gambling section? on: February 20, 2014, 01:03:15 AM
