Recently chris200x9 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3079) came onto IRC asking for a 2 day 5% loan.  He said he couldn't identify and he couldn't auth.  If you look at his lastest posts (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3079;sa=showPosts), you will notice a large 5-6 month gap between June 2011 and December 2011.  If he can auth or identify, then I would retract this post.  However, as of now, his identity is shaky and I wanted to warn anyone considering loaning to him.

is there anyway to be taken off this list once the admins recognize I'm awesome? If not, character assasination.

If you can identify on IRC and/or GPG Authenticate on #bitcoin-otc, I would be more confident in trusting you, as would everyone else.  You cannot provide any proof of identity except that you have access to this seemingly inactive forum account.

I just replied to chmod775's email to my bitcoin-otc registered email address...
GPG identify here, or we'll reset your forum password and mark you as a scammer until you do.

Edit: I looked into it, and I see that isn't possible. However, he looks clean. I'll get back to you guys on the IP check.

If any mod or admin is following this, I fear kujoking7 deserves a SCAMMER tag now.
Give him a bit. If you see him trying to pull a last minute scam, though, let us know.

Invalidated the address. If you want the original address, recalculate the checksum.

1926  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan needed for a HD6990 on: January 29, 2012, 06:19:27 AM
Another very old ( non active) user  that appeared from nowhere asking for a loan....... be careful
For the record, after a review, there appears to be no evidence that the account was hacked. Still be careful, though.
1927  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Truth behind BIP 16 and 17 (important read) on: January 29, 2012, 05:52:04 AM

A minor issue is that old clients will not propagate CHV payments. The old clients will accept blocks with CHV payments, but they will not pass them onto other nodes in the network. This is not a problem as transaction propagation speed is usually far quicker than confirmation speed (especially with 6 confirms or more).
Huh? Because hash power percentage is significantly different from the percentage of Bitcoin network nodes, this is a huge point. Until the relay nodes upgrade, it can take a well-connected node up to 24 hours to get a transaction to a miner that would accept it. At this point, BIP 16 has a huge advantage: although it will take that long to get the transaction to a BIP 16-based address, once it's there, it can be spent just as quickly as a normal address-based transaction. BIP-17 transactions have to wait on both ends. Hope you aren't buying anything with Bit-Pay... (they only wait 15 minutes for the transaction)

Hello,
I am looking for a 7 BTC loan, I will pay you back 10 BTC in 2 days.

Thank you,

1930  Other / Meta / Re: BitScalper Risk Level on: January 28, 2012, 07:09:35 PM
This has proven to be a ponzi scam, and anybody who has done a shred of research knows this. When this blows up, I doubt that there will even be a news article about it. I mean, seriously, there's hard evidence that it's a ponzi and the owner is some unknown guy who came out of nowhere. Anyone who gets scammed by this deserves it. Hell, not even MyBitcoin was this obvious, even though there were signs that it was going to collapse. (I'm proud to say that I got out of there without losing a thing)

If you see this post and you have money on the site, I'd remove it while you still can. You've been warned.
1931  Economy / Lending / Re: *****************SCAM ALERT***************** on: January 28, 2012, 06:55:17 PM
This is the list we have:

kuba_10
Sjalq
madload
darvil
epii
Clarithium
borito4

If the account is no longer marked as a scammer, that means that we believe that the original owner has taken back the account. However, you should still ask for extra identification before transacting with any of these people.
1932  Economy / Lending / **SCAM ALERT** Old accounts coming back on: January 28, 2012, 06:58:36 AM
Recently, people who have been inactive for a long time have been requesting loans out of the blue. These accounts have been compromised. At this time, we believe that the accounts used the same password as what was released back during the MtGox hack. We are marking these accounts as scammers as soon as we see them, but there are several that we've missed. If you see someone request a loan after being largely inactive, REPORT THE POST AND CONTACT A MODERATOR IMMEDIATELY.
1933  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Missing Mt. Gox BTC Withdrawals - Abysmal Customer Support on: January 27, 2012, 10:31:27 PM
Were the first two transactions to other people? If so, they might have given you a MtGox bitcoin address, and when you send to those from within MtGox, the transfer is done instantly internally.
1934  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Found new(?) Miner, need help! on: January 27, 2012, 09:31:11 PM
Dear mother of God. Remind me not to mess with you people.
EDIT: That idiot has ssh on the box, and I managed to guess the root password (it wasn't hard). What do you think I should do?  Tongue
getting some personal information would be nice , but i dont think he is that stupid is he?

Unfortunately he changed his password before I could start downloading everything he had... Anyway, at least his site it down now (he took it down, not I).
If it's any consolation, if you were able to guess the SSH password, the box was owned a few seconds after it connected to the internet. You did the world a great service to have it get taken down.

I'll pass on the IP check request.
1935  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BIP 17 on: January 26, 2012, 09:04:20 PM
But i do not feel that bip17 is mature enough since it introduces new security risks.
So i think something like bip17 should be implemented, but in a way that cannot be exploited/misenterpreted by older clients even if BIPXX has less than 50% support.
BIP 17 does not introduce any new security risks that aren't also risks with BIP 16.
it does. if you send a new transaction before 50% of the hash power is updated it will be redeemable by anyone
with bip16, you will at least need to know the script - its not much, but its not nothing either.
And to redeem it, you have to make the script known even before your redemption gets confirmed. So any rogue miner/relayer can easily swipe it the moment you try to spend.
On the contrary, you don't have to make the script known publicly to redeem it. You can mine it yourself, or get someone that you trust completely to mine it for you. Once it's in a block, the only danger is that the block could be orphaned, and since the script is now publicly released, other people could try redeeming it.

However, that is significantly better than BIP 17 where anyone can try redeeming it the second the BIP 17 transaction appears on the network.
1936  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS Macbook Pro! on: January 26, 2012, 08:48:21 PM
Ok.  Let's get this started.  Since the seller is kojoking7, he needs to state where and how much the repayments are (in other words he has to publicly agree to what the others have stated as addresses) and we can get this done.  Please put it in one single post to this thread, not all spread out.  If this is to be all done in BTC I am fine with that, and I will turn my $600 into BTC.  If the exchange rate changes better or worse it will not matter.

I agree.

Mage, could you please handle this one. At some point, Littleshop needs to convert $600 into BTC. At that point of time all the lenders agree to that exchange rate. It can be done right after the proof of shipping, or after Littleshop received the laptop. I assume that everyone agreed that Littleshop will make payment(s) _only_ after getting the actual laptop.

Logically, it would make the most sense to make the conversion at the time of payment, since that's what kujoking7 agreed to receive. It doesn't matter that the funds will be directed toward the lenders and that if the conversion was made right now, kujoking7 would at least be able to pay off everyone's principle. kujoking7 sold the Macbook for $600, so that's what he should receive (even though it'll immediately be converted to bitcoin and he won't be getting it personally).
1937  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How bad firewall settings can make you lose 75 BTCs on: January 26, 2012, 06:37:15 PM
The interesting part is for such a theft to happen, the thief needed to know that there was an accessible bitcoind on that IP. So, either it is someone close to OP who's stealing him, or there are hackers with crawlers searching for such vulnerable nodes. The latter sounds quite possible, what would mean people using bitcoind RPC should really pay attention to their access rules.
It's the latter. I remember seeing a post like this just a few days ago.
1938  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miners don't even know what P2SH is! on: January 26, 2012, 06:10:22 PM
Sadly, both sides are twisting this into seeming like a "vote". It isn't. In order to activate full validation of P2SH transactions, we need over 50% of the hash power to update their clients to be ready to preform the full validation.

People are refusing to update.
1939  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BIP17 backward compatability on: January 26, 2012, 05:47:02 PM
can you make OP_CHECKHASHVERIFY to remove the last stack item?
then you can add OP_DEPTH 0 OP_EQUAL at the end of the public sig which will cause old clients to reliably fail verification unless they verify the script - i.e. support bip17.
Huh? You don't WANT old client to fail verification unless you purposely want to fork the chain, and if we do that, we might as well make other changes, too.
1940  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Honey Caramels for Valentine's on: January 26, 2012, 05:40:39 PM
I just received my order! Because I was the first person to order in bitcoins, I received BOTH a 4 oz jar of honey and the lipbalm in addition to my order.

As for the caramels, like I said, I ordered raspberry and chocolate. The chocolate caramels are sweet on the outside, and bitter on the inside. It reminds me of a certain kind of chocolate bar that I can't remember off the top of my head, except better and more flavorful! Petty that they're so small compared to said chocolate bar. Guess I'll have to order more Tongue (Don't worry, the caramels are plenty big for caramels. I'd guess about one and a half mini Tootsie Rolls long, and about as wide.)

The Raspberry is a strong sweet explosion! They are not for the weak sweet tooth. If you like your sweets more neutral, go with the chocolate (or maybe the plain or almond, but I didn't order any to try, so I don't know). Luckily, I enjoy candy on both sides of the spectrum! My only complaint is that I couldn't really taste the raspberry, but that might just be because I don't have any plain caramels to compare to.

The caramels come in a clear plastic bag tied with a twist-tie, and then placed in a small thin cardboard box and sealed with a BEES BROTHERS sticker. It is perfect for ordering in bulk and then giving the individual boxes as gifts. Not sure how long they stay, though. I suspect that I'll never find out  Tongue
