21  Other / Meta / Re: I don't know why I'm banned, and how can I solve this ? on: June 21, 2014, 09:02:19 AM
Second actually. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=649202.0

Given the quality of posts, even after the first ban I see no reason for it to be temporary.
Good catch!
22  Other / Meta / Re: I don't know why I'm banned, and how can I solve this ? on: June 21, 2014, 08:58:09 AM
You were banned for low-quality posting due to your working with PrimeDice. It will probably be converted to a timed ban when you send in your appeal, since I'm guessing that this was your first offense. Those bans usually last 7 days.
23  Other / Meta / Re: What are constructive posts? on: June 21, 2014, 07:58:11 AM
Pretty much what everyone else said. This very thread has some good examples. Looking at it, every post in here except these two would probably be considered constructive, given the context:
posts related to the topic with information.
Anything that is not related to the topic.

Those posts are not constructive because they are short and quite clearly didn't read the thread to see if someone had already said what they were going to say. In fact, I'm going to look over their posting history to see if they need to be banned.

Ah, wait, I remember this now. I didn't realize that twentyseventy was the OP, my bad. I'll ask theymos to restore this.
25  Other / Meta / Re: Post Deletion Complaint re: twentyseventy is Deprived on: June 11, 2014, 05:31:21 AM
That may have been me. Mind posting what was deleted to help jog my memory?
26  Other / Meta / Re: Help or gossip? on: June 11, 2014, 05:19:33 AM
Note for context: Moved this from Bitcoin Discussion to Meta.
27  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Is The Any Moderation Or Security On This Forum on: June 11, 2014, 03:59:35 AM
We don't moderate scammers anymore, because there are now much better services out there that can deal with these issue more legally than we can.

Thanks!
29  Other / Bitcoin Wiki / Lock the Getting Started page on: June 08, 2014, 12:06:58 AM
The Getting Started page has been a fantastic target for scammers as of late. Mind locking it so only admins can edit it?

I agree. I don't think all signatures should be banned, but maybe make paying per post not allowed instead.

There is no sure way of enforcing that.
So, instead of enforcing a detail like that, we should enforce based on the results. Consider the no giveaway policy we made in the Altcoin board: We don't actually say that giveaways aren't allowed, but rather that incentivizing low-value posts isn't allowed. When people tried to get around the rule by doing things like "IPOs", they were still dealt with because of how the underlying policy was worded.

I would argue that the same exact policy should be applied to sig advertisers. As long as an advertiser puts in a good-faith effort to prevent low-value posts and is willing to disavow people who make low-value posts anyway, they would have nothing to worry about. If they don't put in a good-faith effort to prevent low-value posts, their site gets added to our spam filter.

If we can get some consensus on this, we can see if theymos would be willing to do that.
31  Other / Meta / Re: Ban appeal: banned due to unsolicited PM on: May 06, 2014, 06:29:00 PM
Only theymos can handle the ban appeal. Be sure to send an email to the appeal email address if you haven't already, possibly linking to this thread.

Personally, I feel that you've learned your lesson and had the best of intentions, so I would support unbanning your account at this point in time.
32  Other / Meta / Re: Ban appeal: banned due to unsolicited PM on: May 06, 2014, 02:18:48 PM
The PM sounded way too canned to be targeted. If you want to avoid issues like this, one thing that can help is to individualize each PM by specifically quoting the person where they mention that they could use your services. If they report it, you still might get banned anyway, but you're much less likely to be reported in that case. We also might be more lenient about that as well, depending on how individualized it is.

I don't generally take action on PM reports (too many chefs and all that...), but by reading your PM out of context, as we see it, I can see why you were banned. The PM was completely canned in terms of its content, and with no way for us to know how many people this was sent to, we could only assume that based on that content it was sent to between 10 and 100 people.
33  Other / Meta / Re: Bad Reports on: May 06, 2014, 02:00:10 PM
Please don't be discouraged from reporting things that could be interpreted either way. I know that the gamification system seems to discourage that, but that's the fault of the system, not your reports. Let me quote what I recently said about this in terms of being invited to be a mod:
Your success rate doesn't actually matter all that much. If you're above 60%, we'll teach you the rest once you become a mod. As long as you can maintain that, quantity of reports is much more important than quality. Specifically, we're looking for people who report things during time periods where the reports aren't immediately acted on, because that indicates a need for additional moderators for that time block. People who report things during those time are far more likely to be chosen, and you're more likely to report during those times if you report more in general.

Ok that should be it. Thank you everyone for patients and sorry this didn't work out.

Also it would be much appreciated if people that were involved in these transactions would leave me some trust feedback thank you!
Thanks for handling this! It's a shame that it didn't work out, though...  Sad
35  Other / Meta / Re: Bad Reports on: May 06, 2014, 12:46:59 AM
Multiple ones? How many? I thought there was just the one judging by my score. Could you tell me or PM what those were if it's not much of a hassle?
In the last two weeks, you have had 7 bad reports. From what I can tell, all but two should have been marked as handled instead of bad, since action was eventually taken on them. (However, I can't tell if the action was related to your report, so take that with a grain of salt...)

Here are the two unactioned bad reports:

mprep already covered why this one was bad.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=33812.msg6451731#msg6451731
Assuming this guy made the content, it's okay that he posted his address. I would have prefered that he not necro that thread, but it is a relevant response.

Oh, so can you guys only handle the stuff in your own respective sub forums, and for everything else you have to report as well?
As for Global Mods, we aren't ever checked for accuracy like most people are. Once a month, theymos will spot-check a random sampling of our mod actions to ensure that they were proper. The results of that check are used as a factor in determining how much we get paid.
36  Other / Meta / Re: Why Was I banned??? on: May 06, 2014, 12:00:07 AM
You were banned for having low-content posts while being part of a paid signature program. Typically, this happens because you are only reading the first few posts before responding to the thread without checking to see if someone else already posted something similar.
37  Other / Meta / Re: How do I directly contact a moderator? on: May 02, 2014, 03:24:15 AM
Moderators do not delete personal information. In addition, moderators are told to not touch things in spam accusations (except spam, ads, etc).
That is exactly right. Nobody on the moderation team would say anything different, so I don't see the point in PMing everyone...
38  Other / Meta / Re: HW Bitcointalk forum is ran on. on: April 29, 2014, 02:39:47 PM
I guess a large portion of the RAM just keeps the constantly accessed stuff in cache?
With that much RAM, it's probably more like ALL THE THINGS!... and that's even before you hit the SSDs.
39  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos why do you allow scammers to continue to be bitcointalk staff ? on: April 29, 2014, 02:23:50 PM
Spoonfeed the issue to us, quote by quote. We don't have the luxury of time to read whole threads of accusations to find the actual facts. Specifically, please post the following quotes:

1) Original offer from the user(s) the was/were scammed, if applicable.
2) Davout's acceptance of the offer.
3) Evidence that the agreement was violated.
4) Davout's acceptance and/or rebuttals to that evidence.
40  Other / Meta / Re: spammers copy pasting directly from reddit on: April 26, 2014, 12:45:28 AM
Looked like a bot experiment, I dont think anyone would be that boring to do it on purpose.
It's our favorite spammer who runs that scam site that purports to sell bitcoin on the cheap for PayPal. I know because he used the same space topic in /r/bitcoin to attempt to get by the spam filter.
