21  Economy / Speculation / Re: The price is only going down because Pirate is gradually selling. on: August 19, 2012, 07:15:15 AM
So does pirate currently have enough coins to pay everyone back...I don't think so.
22  Economy / Speculation / Re: A potential top @ $12.16: the bearish case on: August 18, 2012, 03:26:09 AM
Well, now that the price has gone past your $12.16 top, what do your astrological technical analysis charts say?

Elliot Wave Theory is a bunch of useless nonsense. Fibonacci numbers are just numbers. They aren't magic and they are not connected to trading or bitcoins in any way. There I said it.

You might actually want to take the time and learn about something before you completely discredit/insult it. The rise above $12 was obviously unsustainable and the vicious consequences were just as predictable: http://imageshack.us/f/839/389b.png/ (taken from past subscription chart 389)

the wave-4 ended up being a larger running flat which was tricky, but the aftermath of the price surpassing the upper channel trend-line was the same -- an extended 5th (a classic commodity/currency bubble wave) before a plunge.

On the upside, if the price more or less holds, it solidifies the fact that the gains prior to that massive jump were solid, not speculative, and the growth we were seeing before should continue Smiley

Exactly! What a good opportunity to buy now.

26  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: the first miners on: August 09, 2012, 02:58:01 AM
I mined 100 BTC in a few days in late 2009 using two or three computers (the same one built both blocks) I was previously using for SETI@home. I don't remember their specs, but they weren't anything special. I actually stopped because they were using significant amounts of power to generate something that didn't seem to have any purpose or value, and went back to SETI@home.

What made you decide to start mining?

I'll be honest, it was greed. Also, part of it was having the opportunity to be part of something new, but in the end I ended up stopping, so I can't say either really convinced me all that much.

How much could the coins be sold for at that time? Surely it was not greed for money....
27  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: the first miners on: August 08, 2012, 01:57:48 PM
I'm curious to know who, back in 2009 was mining and how many bitcoins could you mine per day with an average personal computer?

I mined about 200btc with a pentium 4  pc in a couple of days.

What made you decide to start mining?

29  Economy / Speculation / Re: End of year price prediction on: August 08, 2012, 10:45:49 AM
we can assume there will be an ever increasing number of fresh bitcoin buyers, can we not? i don't have any reason to sell bitcoin unless i am desperate for cash and need to buy something. and im sure many others are the same. why keep fiat lying around and what else are you going to invest in?

Black Market Drug Site 'Silk Road' Booming: $22 Million In Annual Sales
His findings: the site’s number of sellers, who offer everything from cocaine to ecstasy, has jumped from around 300 in February to more than 550. Its total sales now add up to around $1.9 million a month. And its operators generate more than $6,000 a day in commissions for themselves, compared with around $2,500 in February.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygreenberg/2012/08/06/black-market-drug-site-silk-road-booming-22-million-in-annual-mostly-illegal-sales/

I think this puts the argument that Pirate's business is somehow related to laundering coins for silk road to rest. Pirate's interest payments completely dwarf Silk Roads operator profit and almost rivals the combined revenue of all silk road sellers combined.

Well now that makes me feel somewhat more confident about pirate's operation continuing.
31  Economy / Speculation / Re: This rally is a pirate bubble on: August 08, 2012, 05:08:13 AM
So, in one moment Pirate is doomed above $10 - then he's just fine until we hit $13, or is it $20? Wait, I read on this forum that Pirate controls BTC prices, so there's no way they'd be trading so high... oh wait...

This stuff is so hilariously contradictory I can't even begin to laugh enough.

You're getting the idea...it's all speculation.

Actually it is paranoia.
32  Economy / Speculation / Re: BITCOIN BUY IS GOOD FOR SAVING PURPOSE on: August 07, 2012, 08:30:14 AM
I dont need signal I just want suggestions from other persons

30 days range of MTGOX USD Bitcoin Price is  $6.74257 — $11.3

So I hope august month end it is near $14-$15

suggestions welcome

Let me the first to tell you to trade at your own risk. No one will give you buy sell signals here and will take responsibility for any losses you may incur.

It's on you man.

I think the price will gradually increase for the next few months until finally it explodes.
33  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / confirmation speed on: August 07, 2012, 05:41:36 AM

34  Other / Off-topic / my plan on: August 07, 2012, 03:19:52 AM
When the price of bitcoin rises above $500 per coin I will stop buying. I will have half of my coins invested at about 1-2% per week which will be enough to retire and live comfortably for the rest of my life. Also I plan to buy a yacht and sail around the world.

Whats your plan when bitcoin rises above this price? Assuming you didn't sell your coins...

Not sure what your best option overall is, but Jeremy West is in AU (I believe)
One of the most trustworthy guys to deal with in our community.

10% fee? That's a bit steep. I pay 0.5% using btcchina in China. I guess I will just have to stay here then  Wink
38  Other / Beginners & Help / Trading bitcoins in China on: August 06, 2012, 03:26:41 AM
I'm an Australian expat living in Shanghai.
Buying and selling bitcoins here is very convenient. I use btcchina.com and can have money transfered from my Chinese bank account into the exchange within 10 minutes. Cashing out usually takes 24 hours.
In a few months I will be returning to Australia and I'm wondering how easy it is to get money on and off an exchange there? Also whats it like in other countries?

Also if anyone needs to buy or sell bitcoin anywhere in Asia I can provide assistance/advice as I have been doing it for the last 5 months.

Good points there...

Cheesy

Does anybody suggest online wallet instead?

I have read about blockchain wallet

Blockchain wallet is great.
I have mine setup with two factor authentication - password and sms authentication so if someone wanted to get into my wallet they would need both my password and phone.

I would like to invest my bitcoin in some funds such as hashking lending and bitcoinmax and I would like to post proof of fund lodgement in those sections.
I have also been active in the various bitcoin irc channels for the last 2 months.
