341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stop adding features to Bitcoin that don't facilitate its use as electronic cash on: March 19, 2024, 02:05:37 AM
Bitcoin was designed to be "electronic cash".  Nothing should be changed in core that does not support this mission.

The title of the Bitcoin white paper - "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System".

Scrypt is better as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. For any transaction under 100 usd in value

12x the blocks per hour for doge+ltc merged mining as compared to btc.

So now that you have been told the truth about peer to peer .

Demonstrate to me why btc is better than Ltc or Doge to buy coffee or to do any small transaction.
342  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 19, 2024, 12:50:04 AM
The sources of frustration for some bitcoiners (not me):

1. Bitcoin corrected about 10% too soon after reaching the ATH (73K).
My comment: this did not happen in 2020, but it surely did in 2017, when bitcoin reach ATH on 3/2 at 1280.71, then went down to 941.84 by 3/27 (26.5% down), which was roughly 20% below the prior ATH of $1160.

2. While bitcoin is "resting", some cr-p went up a lot, so masses started to muse about a "missed" opportunity.
Let them, of course, yet this verbiage permeates the blogosphere and CT.

TL;DR Such corrections almost immediately after a new ATH has happened before, but we should watch the $58,437 level (20% down) and $53,719 level (not a canonical one, but which corresponds to the March 2017 % correction shortly after achieving the new ATH). Alas, we might not even go near those numbers and, instead, turn around soon.

Yeah Solana whaled.

But I have a hotspot in my attic it burns 10 cents a day and earns 25 to 50 cents a day.

I don’t care about it at all. So After two years I looked at the wallet had. Lot of HNT and a Lot of IOT.

they use solana to move the coin much like eth moves tokens.

I said fuck looks like Solana is better than the tokens I converted 500 in tokens to 500 in solana which is now 1000 which I purchased btc when btc dropped to 67k.

So I am fine with that opportunity.

343  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2024 Diff thread happy New Years. on: March 19, 2024, 12:28:34 AM
At the current price of 66-67 k  and six cent mining on April 20 or so almost everything will suck for miners.  We may finally see some gear be shut off with some dropping difficulty.

But with the increase in the value of BTC, doesn't it create the possibility of increasing the number of connected machines?
For small miners, it could be an opportunity to have more hash, given that the value of BTC is higher.

Well, when you think about it, as the difficulty increases, you end up gaining so little that it still doesn't pay off.
Anyway, we are at a stage where the market is starting to regulate itself, leaving only those with real hashing capacity. And unfortunately this ends up centralizing mining even more.

Read the history of mining for gold.

Mining alone in the right spot in 1840 you could become super rich.

Not so much now.  ie the easy to find is gone the hard to find needs lots of money to mine it at a profit.

The mine in Clifton NJ has had over 1,600,000 put into it. and over 4000 a month in power for 60 months.

Total in 1.84 million. Total out more than that, but not a lot more.

We started DEC 2018 coins were 6k buying coins has done better than mining ⛏️.

345  Other / Meta / Re: Poll: Colored Text Usage in Forum Posts on: March 18, 2024, 09:54:03 PM
Hello Members

Since I have been attacked by some members for using colored text in my posts, I thought I would open a poll to see what other members think.

I like colored text.

IMHO every forum I know offers text formatting with all kinds of options including colors for text. There must be a reason for this because if it was not good or acceptable to use the text formatting they would not offer it.

Please vote and give us your pros and cons in a friendly and civilized manner.

Interesting for me is if most members vote to remove and not offer the text formatting, if the forum owner will take it out and delete the text formatting.

Since I could not find the option to add more questions, I will add more questions with answers here to give more food for discussion. If anyone knows how to do this, I would be grateful if they could point me in the right direction.

Do you like colored text in forum posts?
Yes
No
Neutral

How do you believe the use of colored text enhances or detracts from the forum experience?
Enhances
Neutral
Detracts

Should the forum continue to offer text formatting options, including colors, for posts?
Yes absolutely
Yes with some restrictions
No it should be removed entirely

Should the forum owner only remove the colored text option?
Yes
No

PS
to the Mod:
In case I posted this poll in the wrong subforum, please be so kind and move it to the right one, thanks.

Not voting I somewhat support it. I sometimes use it. But I suffer from color blindness.

Not completely but impaired.

red

red

so the red above in 20 pt I can see as red
the red above in 6 pt is hard for me to see

Now if you do
 regular black
bold black
some blue fine

some people complaining may not realize that they have mild color impairment.

lets say unimpaired color vision is a 9 or 10
lets say my impairment is a five
lets say the people complaining are better than me but not normal
maybe a 7 they see the colors but find it stress full to read.

346  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2024 Diff thread happy New Years. on: March 18, 2024, 08:45:01 PM
Well after the 2021 double top Say nov/dec 2021 to now the diff never really corrected for price.

This is an indication that the hardware is not able to keep up with the market.
We need another leap at a technological level, in relation to mining, to return to more attractive profitability.

I think the last time I really saw this leap was in 2013/2014, when they left GPUs and moved to ASICs. Undecided

no I wish you were correct.  The issue is simple all the gear was added because

6 cent mining made money with s17 s19  s21
and  m20 m30 m50 made money at six cents

all from march 2021 to now.  so big farms kept adding gear and making more power available.

At the current price of 66-67 k  and six cent mining on April 20 or so almost everything will suck for miners.  We may finally see some gear be shut off with some dropping difficulty.
347  Economy / Economics / Re: Everything is over priced but people keep spending on: March 18, 2024, 04:40:41 PM
The cost of things has gone up so much so that it's glaring. Imagine paying 5-12$ for an average meal you could get before for 3$. The jump cost is extremely high. Cooking a meal at home can cost you the same amount you would spend on eating in a restaurant. Funny enough people still afford all these things without complaining. My anger is that we make money to spend it all into our normal life expenses. It's difficult now to save or invest unless you part of the rich people in society. An average man has to just eat, pay bills, and survive.

Are you sure cooking a meal at home can cost the same amount as eating at a restaurant, even with the same menu? How do restaurants make a profit then? My experience is that cooking at home is less expensive than a restaurant because I don't have to pay for staff salaries, rent, taxes, etc. It's mainly the cost of food and some electricity or gas.

Still, in today's world, it's true that saving or investing requires either cutting expenses or increasing income. I'm glad we live in the cryptocurrency era because it's been a real help for me financially

I can save quite a bit cooking at home.

I can get a large piece of beef brisket  for 45 usd. grass fed not grain fed.

I can get five pound of potatoes for  2 dollars on sale
I can get two pounds of carrots for 2 dollars on sale.
I can get two pound of broccoli for 2 dollars on sale
I can get a head of cabbage for 1 dollar on sale

cost 52 usd maybe 1 dollar for gas fuel to cook it all.

53 usd will serve 12 people.

this would be over 200 usd in a restaurant.

Well after the 2021 double top Say nov/dec 2021 to now the diff never really corrected for price.

see the chart below

We just grew like mad. so your profits now suck compared to nov 21 .  yeah you are making money but you are about to get crushed come the ½ ing

Even a move to 100k this week and you then do the ½ ing in 4 weeks you are still far behind Nov 2021

349  Economy / Speculation / Fed rate adjustment on March 19/20 2024 what will happen? on: March 18, 2024, 04:06:32 PM
I think the drop in BTC price is due to the fed rate adjustment meeting.

We should know by the 21st of march if they drop rates.

I think the BTC market stalled over this.

Opinions guesses etc.

CNBC thinks we do a freeze this time.

There's a higher chance of mining a BTC block with a PC CPU/GPU...

about 10000 to 1 shot on any of them dying . So 10000 to the 5th power of them all dying tonight.

the odds of hitting a block with a 1gh miner (gpu) are

1 gh in 600eh
1 gh in. 600000ph
1 gh in  600000000th
1 gh in 600000000000gh which is way better than 10000x10000x10000x10000x10000

but realistically
if trump could live 10-20 years he is about 1 in 7300 to die to night
and biden is maybe 17 years so he is 1 in 6000 to die tonight

so the chances of just those two dying tonight is maybe 6000x7300= 4,380,000

that is actually not likely a 4.3 million to one shot coming  in is very rare.

the other three are younger so 10,000 x 10,000 x 10,000 = 1,000,000,000 a billion to one

This might be true regarding averages. But are you including people who live on the street and use fentanyl and poop next to their street-neighbor's cardboard-box-home?

Neither Trump nor Biden live like this. Rather, they live with the best medical and nutrition that is understood professionally. This brings their odds of dying way down. However, this doesn't mean that they won't die. It simply means that they will "probably" easily beat the averages.

Cool

yeah I gave trump 20 years which would be 97 which is way over average.

and 20 years is 7300 days so I said 1 out of 7300 is likely a good guess.

biden I gave 17 years which would be 98 which is way over average.

thats about 6100 days so I

think the 4 million to 1 shot iis a close guess.

I just think no one their ages should run.

I rather agree with you about having an age limit. But because of the experience of old people, it would be nice to have a formal 'Old Guy', Advisor-To-The-President position that carries some authority... enough to stop foolish Biden mistakes, for example. The Advisor position could require somebody over 75-y-o, for example.

Cool
I am 67 I clearly remember back to Vietnam 🇻🇳 Kennedy and Johnson.

I know my own mind and my own body.

At 67 in someways I am far better at the waiting game and hedging. I am less inclined to go all or nothing.

And if you knock on my door and wake me up at four in the morning it takes me seven minutes to dress piss and drink a cup of coffee. At 35 I could skip the piss and cut the time to 3 or 4 minutes.

Do I think I would be better at 80 than 67 no. But I could consult well to a younger guy.

352  Economy / Speculation / Re: Top 20 days for Bitcoin on: March 18, 2024, 02:41:03 AM
Yeah it may be shaping up as a bull trap for miners.

Once the ½ ing hits we need 80k for miners to not be hurting.

We never had a mining recapitalization this cycle so maybe we hit the ½ ing at 65k and many miners are crushed.
353  Economy / Economics / Re: Senators pressure SEC’s Gensler not to approve any more crypto ETFs on: March 18, 2024, 01:46:38 AM
SEC Chair Gary Gensler was against Bitcoin SEC approval and he was trying his best to avoid it but the interest of Blackrock and pressure from outside forced him to take this decision and accept Bitcoin ETFs. Now senators pressure him not to approve any more crypto ETFs because it would expose investors to risks.

Ethereum is the most popular cryptocurrency after Bitcoin, and the Ethereum ETF application is awaiting the SEC's approval. What do you think, will the SEC approve Ethereum if there is a pressure from big corporations like BlackRock?

Read the news - https://cointelegraph.com/news/senators-urge-sec-gary-gensler-reject-further-crypto-etfs

They can demand it, but.... American law and courts of course have their own "tricks", but ... You can't just call and say "Ban it because you can't, because someone doesn't like it". In order to ban - you must first prove contradiction to the legal framework. And then there's case law. This is about the fact that the ETF Bitcoin allowed - why not allow / prohibit the same decision for Efirium !?? So most likely they will have to allow it, or try to prevent it for a very long and ineffective time. But it will not end in favor of SEC and those who want to ban it

well eth is pos

btc is pow

eth has zero infrastructure not in complete control of a hand full of people.

Mr V. has spent some time with Putin publicly all reasons to say eth is a piece of shit.

time will tell as to how long the usa can prop up th dollar.

355  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC power on: March 17, 2024, 11:20:48 PM
Hello all BTC
can we talk about the source behind BTC price
yes there is only 21m btc but iI think that it is not enough
it make anyone reach just by bying and hodling it
we normally get rich by working, studying or something else but not hodling
there is that guy who keep all his time studying and working and get paid just to pay rent, food and his family (life should be like that)
there is that guy who never studied or work just get some btc and hodl it  Huh

thank's

To hodl is the single most divine act a btc owner can do.

What a sad resentful comment for you to make.

Seems like you failed to hodl and are bitter.
356  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How important is BTC hodl for a mining company? on: March 17, 2024, 10:07:44 PM
Should a mining company focus on increasing a stack of Bitcoin that they can display in public as a way to showcase ability to save in BTC and as well as show confidence in trusting BTC as a way to keep your treassury by hodling it instead of cash, or should a company in the mining field just focus on mining as much BTC as possible, including selling the BTC you mine at any rate in order to keep expanding your hashrate and do not even hold any?

Im not sure about this. Some people like to see how a miner can hold onto a lot of BTC like MARA, but others seem to not care that much and just want max efficiency. For a public miner I guess whatever increases shareholders value the most is what works. Anyone has studied this?

Since power and labor are likely not paid in btc. They need to cash quite a bit of coins.

So I would say a ratio of spare cash and a ratio of spare coins is better than all cash or all coins.
357  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will BTC go back to $40K - $30K range before a bigger rally? on: March 17, 2024, 10:03:36 PM
Based on the pattern on the chart, it seems like Bitcoin is going to correct itself but to what extent, no one knows.

We can clearly see that BTC hasn't been able to cross its previous highs after each dip recently which indicates that there is a bearish momentum going on.

So can we expect a major correction or it's going to go up again and reach $80K before halving?

Let's discuss.

if it does you will be known as a mad genius.

Both are horrible, I can't believe they are the only ones in the run in a country of 340 Million.

yeah its a fucking joke.

Every nite i tell myself when I wake up in the morning.

Trump
Biden
Putin
JinPing
Kim Jung Un

will all die peacefully in their sleep. 💤

Odds are high over 10,000,000,000,000,000 to one but it would be a cool longshot.

359  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How do I find out if a coin is tainted? Are there lists? Or services that check. on: March 17, 2024, 05:58:14 PM
I have a business partner that is looking to do large escrow movements. 100 btc and up.

I don’t want people dumping tainted coins on him.

I have seen a few addresses marked bad on a few threads. I am hesitant to let the person offer to do escrows unless there is a mechanism to protect him from a tainted coin dump.

I suppose I can word contracts a certain way but I really would like to check for tainted stolen etc since it wont be small amounts.

The index is still showing levels at "extreme greed", can we expect a reversal to $70,000 in the next few days?

I think we migbt see <$60k before we see $70k.

https://twitter.com/0xhedge32/status/1768208346329366869?s=12&t=GOxgUHAih5V6rQN5toiPJQ

We all saw this one gazillion times already.
The twitter "guy" doesn't even say where we are at in his opinion.
I would say, maybe "optimism", but according to all social metrics we are nowhere close to the "mania/thrill" yet.
79 is a lagging indicator too. We are not more than 70 rn, after a few days of declines.

well showing this now

Is either mad genius and we are all fucked or very premature and just for weak hands.

I personally shaved some off at  70k and 73k so I can hodl quite a bit longer.
