you should really try to get temps down. they are supposed to operate under 40C
This guy is smoking crack. The s9 can run over 100c. The fan noise is normal, its an industrial miner not meant for home use. Changing the fan will cause nothing but problems.

Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: clock speed on s7 ; safe to overclock?

Dont ever overclock your s7 unless you want it to die in the very near future.
Overclocking has nothing to do with the temperature. Its overclocked by its hash speed. If you currently have it at 550mhz you actually have it underclocked right now.
The 54 chip units have either a 575 of 600mhz stock clock depending on the batch.
The 45 chip version has a stock clock of 700 mhz.
I assume by the fact that at 550 you are at 4.4TH that you have a 54 chip machine. There should be a sticker on the hash board that says 575M or 600M. That is the stock frequency for your version of the s7.
P.S. The s7 will run up until 80c chip temps before shutting off. If you wanna push it hard you can run it in the low 70s safely. I have boards that have been doing it for over 18 months.

Try screenshots of the miner page rather than text vomit like that. Also you need to be looking at the kernel log for problems, the status page tells you very little.

The ignorance in this thread is pretty impressive. This theory that bitmain is taking your money specifically to run their own miners is just plain dumb. Bitmain has 10k+ of their own mienrs sitting on the ground because even they cannot find datacenter space for them all. Why do you think they tried making agreements with places like great north data to run their equipment? They can only put them up as fast as new space becomes available so thats another conspiracy theory you can toss out the window.
An s9 makes $850/month before power costs and everyone is complaining that bitmain is holding down profits. Were none of you in this industry a year ago? Gimme a break.

ps. why you hate M3 so much? just curious..
Its not hate. While it does have impressive efficiency considering its a 28nm process, it is still not comparable to current generation miners and its effective lifespan will be much shorter. It is just not a smart buy if you are doing this for a living.

Ventilation only helps so much. If you are feeding it really hot air it will overheat and shut down. That being said your temps are not too crazy and it most likely will run just fine as long as you do have proper air flow.

1. Costs can vary wildly depending on location. Do you have large trunk lines running near? There are a ton of studies you need to do. Environmental impact and the like. The only substation I ever priced out was about $1 million but it is right next to an existing substation and high capacity lines.
2. Generating your own electricity is a great option if you can build a wind farm. Solar is a non starter due to cost and limited production capacity. Maybe natural gas generators if you have mineral rights and access to it.
Its really about location as far as how you can set your power up. If you are in a rural farm area with no access to larger capacity power lines you are pretty much boned.

Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Tips for finding locations for small farm setup

1. You just have to look around for a larger service or talk to the landlords about upgrades.
2. In the case of limited ventilation you can use a hot/cold system where you pressurize the fresh air intake isle and just blow the heat into the rest of the building.
3. If you use the above method there isnt much sound to dampen. You should only look at free standing buildings. Any shared walls will always be a deal killer.
4. Depends on your location I guess. That should be plenty for a small setup.
