the problem with this is you have no idea if it is due to bad luck or a setup issue.
This. Unless you are confident in your software setup, and have monitoring in place to ensure that everything is working correctly, and that you will know if it's not, the risk of mining for days/weeks/longer on a broken or underperforming setup outweighs any disadvantages you may encounter mining on a pool. </my_two_satoshi> Set up your own pool ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=158105.0) and mine on the testnet first to debug your setup.

I received my Avalon batch 3 w/ 3 blades last week, and here's some of the problems I encountered. [...]
Have you checked to make sure all the cables are firmly connected?

But, and I think I stated that on several occasions, I do have a lot of respect for Matthew and it makes me somewhat sad to no longer have him around.
There is nothing stopping him from creating another account. He can, and most certainly will, continue to be around. And if he wants, he can troll with his new account. The point of the ban, as far as I can figure, is that trolling from a new account is far less effective.

I'm using EclipseMC.com. No fees and it's a good size pool (7TH/s).
Be sure to make sure your pool op knows how well Avalons work on his pool! You also might mention how much you like working with such a reputable company like Avalon. Also, tell him how many Avalons you've been recently shipped! I'm sure he'll be real glad to know that so many people are really enjoying their Avalon!

I would stay away. Check out amagi metals. They seem to be doing a good business and I haven't seen any scam accusations about them yet.
I highly recommend Amagi Metals. I've purchased a few times from them and have always had a good experience.

Is this still open? It shows "66/50" -- i.e., 66 devices out of 50 have been paid for?

A list of books I've found to be very good:
[...]
I really wish someone had handed me this reading list years ago - I think it would have taken years off of my learning curve.
I also recommend the babypips site, http://www.babypips.com/. It does a pretty good job of teaching the basics without overwhelming the reader with technical details. At the very least it is a good place to start.

Bump.
I get these crashes as well. Is there a branch, different from master, that I should try?

Minor nitpick: 120v x 20A USA You're kitchen might have a 2400w rated socket for your cooker, everywhere else will be 1800w.
Typical circuit spec for a residential electric stove is 240V @ 50A. That works out to 12 kW. (Not that you'd rip out the stove and plug in a mini-rig...what are you going to cook on? A campstove? ) Um, sounds like you can just use the mini-rig.

I got my ModMiner Quad working with cgminer yesterday (with cgminer running in an Ubuntu emulator on my Mac, had trouble getting it working directly on my Mac but this works for now). Problem is that if I leave it running for just an hour or two - the following happens: https://gist.github.com/sanity/db5f4b7a4c2a85a133beNote that all of the MMQs seem to have failed! Any ideas what the problem is here? My guess is that this is going to end up being something going wrong with emulation. My recommendation(s): 1. Run Ubuntu Live off of a USB stick on your Mac -- this removes issues any possible issues with iOS and/or emulation. 2. Alternatively, run cgminer or bfgminer natively on your Mac. (If you haven't tried bfgminer, try it as well.) People do it, you just need to figure out how. 3. Alternatively, get a SBC (single-board-computer) like the RasberryPi or the BeagleBone and use that as your host. Finally, although it isn't your problem, MMQ0 is running 10C hotter than the other chips. This isn't something you should worry about now, but you should keep an eye on it. For example, is that particular fan failing? Is that chip in the exhaust for something else?

I'll give you 20 BTC for 12. Escrow required. I'll send 1 BTC for (two day-ish) shipping immediately upon agreement. (You send back change from shipping...)

I was actually wondering this myself the other day. You can certainly hold physical PMs in your self-directed IRA.
I'd be very interested if someone here has looked into this further.

This sounds familiar. Let me see if I can find the post: Can US dollar bills really be blamed if criminals use them? I think this is the first and only subject most townspeople will talk about if they talk about US dollars.
US dollars are designed for the industrial age. It's designed to be better than what we have at doing what gold does. Since it is better at it's job, then people will use it. This includes criminals. But can US dollars be blamed if criminals use US dollars because they are a better and more convenient form of denominating wealth?
That's like saying carrier pigeons can be blamed because criminals can use them. Why does a criminal use them? because carrier pigeons are a more convenient form of communication than writing a letter which is what we used to have. Saying that US dollars are bad because criminals use them is like saying that horses are bad because criminals can use them to help in their criminal lives. Why do criminals use them? Because horses are a better form of transportation than running which is the form of transportation they replaced.
Just thought I'd get that off my chest.
