Dave: Can you clarify whether the default ("free") shipping method to US customers is USPS Standard Post (7-8 days to most destinations) or USPS Priority Mail (2-3 days)?
If USPS Standard Post, can you add another shipping upgrade to the site for US customers to upgrade to USPS Priority Mail for $5 or something?
There should be a lower price overnight/express priority shipping for those who are only getting the 25Gh starter kit. I'm definitely not going to stick you with long shipping time to save a few bucks. In looking at the $199 shipping option against a single starter, I'm not super happy with the increase in cost to you. My choice to provide a single one-size-fits-all shipping option is adding too much cost to the starter kits. However, I'm wary of introducing more complications by adding a second option at this time, but rest assured I'm going to revisit this issue and make it right. Most of the cost of the expedited shipping option provides insurance. The insured cost of shipping a full rig is what mainly drove the expedited shipping price. If you ordered a starter kit and then purchase expedited shipping, I will either refund a portion of that $199 or drop store credit on your account. The amount will be $100. It seems to me the only logical place this can end is manufacturers selling hardware at COST PLUS 20% and in very large volumes. Mining is becoming an insanely risky conversion engine from fiat to crypto-currency. The only people that will eventually be mining will be the guys making the hardware.
There is another very quick and effective conversion engine. It is called an EXCHANGE.

Yeah - there are exceptions where someone has a specific competitive edge. Manufacturing your own ASICs being the obvious one - but even that will cease to be profitable for new entrants at some point: when the returns cease to repay NRE costs in a timely manner. And even then they still face the risk of making a BTC-denominated loss if BTC rises strongly vs USD at an unfortunate time.
So, short of having your own ASIC, this PMC model is a loser for the investor. |

PMCs are not necessarily a bad investment. Almost nothing is a automatically a bad investment. It all depends on the price they're being sold for.
If you look at the currently marketed PMCs, then most/all of them will not give you back your investment at their current price unless the difficulty rise slows down soon. IPO prices for these assets were even higher.
Why are current prices so high? People still "believe" in PMCs because they haven't done the math or think that difficulty growth will slow down very soon. So there is buying pressure to slow down the price decrease.
Why were IPO prices so high? Ask the people issuing these assets.
So your answer is that people are bad at math or that issuers are pricing their value add too high? |

I keep reading that perpetual mining contracts (PMCs) are a poor performing investment overall. Okay, I'll assume for sake of argument that such is true. So, given the following (not all inclusive): - An investor does not want to mine
- An investor does not have the funds to buy their own equipment
- An investor wants to take advantage of the fact that large volume purchases could lower the overall $/GHps for hardware
- An investor wants to take advantage of another site's lower hosting costs (i.e. lower electricity, security, adequate HVAC)
- An investor wants to rely on another's mining equipment expertise
What type of investment vehicle is out there and how should it be implemented? |

This is not greed on the OP's part. This is called "staying in business" in an inherently high risk industry.
If you want to play in bitcoin hardware, take the risk yourself or pay for someone else's in the future.
If you want to pay 20% over cost, go buy a DVD at Walmart.
