1  Other / Ivory Tower / Hodling gets easy over the years, but it's still hard. on: May 19, 2022, 04:28:42 AM
I just did some calculations. Figured out how much I'm down from the ATH. It's 7 figures and it hurts. I would have thought it would hurt more though. I guess at this point in the game the fiat losses just don't mean as much to me.

I live the same lifestyle I did before I got into bitcoin. The difference now is that I have a very minimal amount of debt (which I can pay off tomorrow if I really wanted to) and I'm essentially financially independent. I do still have a job at a company I love, but I don't rely on it for income. If I was fired tomorrow, I could just retire. Maybe not extremely comfortably, but I could easily live off of my stack even with these huge losses.

This isn't meant to be motivational or depressing, just an observation. When I lost 0.05BTC because my blockchain.info account got hacked in 2015, I was absolutely devastated. That was $20 I didn't really have and it was gone. Forever. I didn't tell my wife about it for years. Like it was some deep dark secret that I bought $20 of bitcoin but we couldn't afford to go to a restaurant for lunch.

It's still so strange to me that I got into bitcoin pretty early (2015), it's done extremely well, and if it drops 60% I just... Keep on going. It's different now. From the outside looking in it's kind of interesting. From the inside holy crap I just lost well over a decade's worth of salary. But it's temporary. I'd rather hodl than sell and give the government 27% of my gains. I suppose in hindsight giving them 27% would be better than losing 60%, but I won't ever know how to time the market. So I've just got to sit back, breath, keep calm and hodl on. Note to self: you should really meditate. Stress will probably come out unexpectedly with family and friends.

It's okay to be stressed. It's also okay to just trust the system and know we'll be fine in a few years. Who knows, maybe even months. The free market sure is funny some times. Well, stay safe out there. Only bet what you can afford to lose. If you can't afford to lose $20 don't bet it. If you can afford to lose a million dollars just take the risk and hope for a reward. We'll be okay.
2  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: October 17, 2021, 01:52:36 AM
I stopped posting because it's 99% shitposts and charlatans here. Many OGs are great to talk to but I'd rather just talk on a chat app.

I also found a very tight knit crypto group that I speak with all the time so no real need for the forum anymore. I do check in here and there but for the most part I'm busy with real life and I never have any questions or concerns about bitcoin so no real reason to post.

If I got banned (no idea why I would) I would obviously evade that ban if i wanted to post, just saying.

I have lots of great memories from bitcointalk but they're just a part of the past now. I don't see myself getting very involved here on out unless there are drastic changes. Where the hell is the new forum and mobile version already? Seriously. Those donations are probably worth billions at this point lmao.

DM me if you need me. I might check my email every few months. Other than that, I'm out.
3  Economy / Exchanges / Re: KAKEN IS DOWN AGAIN... on: February 04, 2021, 04:25:55 AM
Lol binance is up yet they always have hacks and leaks. Not to mention the blatant wash trading.

I don't recall reading that any of this ever happening with Kraken. IMO it's better to be down a day or two than to have your life savings stolen because your meme of a CEO can't figure out how to properly secure the biggest target on earth. They're doing a hell of a lot better than in the surge of 2017.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ravencoin [RVN] PoW GPU Mining | Asset Transfer Blockchain (Updated ANN) on: January 26, 2021, 04:15:03 AM
The $40k security audit is nothing special and seems like a waste of funding.

Their Discord server is pretty much dead with very little talk about the project itself anymore.

RIP

Well they know the date their funding is going to run out so I guess just keep pretending you're busy until then. This shitcoin has terminal cancer. Sell for whatever pittance you get if you haven't yet.

Oh and the discord server is highly censored so of course it's dead. Remember when anyone that dare mention the word ASIC would get banned? Ahh good times. I won't miss this shitcoin.
5  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Question] Is your brain cold? on: January 19, 2021, 05:07:25 PM
I've got plenty of shih-tzu fur stockpiled if you accept shih-tzu fur donations. I guess the bitcoin penny price is a little too rich for people these days. Not a single sale after that fateful day. Oh well.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Grin | PoW Mining | Electronic transactions for all. Community driven. on: December 30, 2020, 10:45:21 PM
I'm looking to buy grin by the 1000s @ 1k sats each.

I'll buy a day of Grin at that price....

(funny that a whole day of Grin now costs less than 1 BTC...)

Well my order got filled within a few hours so I'd put your money where your mouth is if you're serious  Wink
7  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Hardware wallets still aren't secure, and they never will be. Use paper wallets on: December 30, 2020, 03:04:46 AM
Seems like a great time to bump this important thread!

Never forget, you don't know what vulnerabilities will be found in the future. Don't trust a third party with your crypto, or in this case, your data.

Hardware wallets and the centralized companies behind them are insecure. Learn how to secure your funds properly.

I'm looking to buy grin by the 1000s @ 1k sats each. The price is subject to change of course.

I'm looking for at least 5000 maybe 10,000. DM me if interested. You send first or we can use a trusted forum escrow.
9  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How long will go Bitcoin? on: December 17, 2020, 05:42:47 PM
It's going all the way. Hodl onto your hat.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ravencoin [RVN] PoW GPU Mining | Asset Transfer Blockchain (Updated ANN) on: November 01, 2020, 02:02:56 PM
Medici is calling it quits. Funding reduced from 720k/yr to 50k/yr (for 3 years). So RVN is on life support for 3 years then they pull the plug.

RIP
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help, Bitaddress.org created wallets with none matching Keys&addresses! on: October 25, 2020, 08:06:56 PM
When you generate the address you get the addy and the private key, so, to get access to the coins you should import the private keys to any wallet. But the problem here is ¿Why you make an address on an online site? that's one of the biggest mistakes you can do because the site can save the keys, or a MITM attack could take the keys when they were created. The right way to make your own paper wallets it's with vanitygen. That's our best option.

... No.

Where do I start?

1. They downloaded the website and used it offline. This is stated in the OP
2. That's not what a man-in-the-middle attack is
3. Vanitygen doesn't let you generate paper wallets per se. They're vanity addresses. From there you can choose to create a paper wallet, hot wallet, import it into a hardware wallet or anything else. Using vanitygen is only more secure if it's on an air-gapped computer.

If you're going to buy a bitcointalk account to shitpost at least get the basics down.

OP I'd be happy to help in whatever way I can. I used bitaddress to create many paper wallets and always without issue. As others have stated please make sure to double check every address type. Legacy includes compressed or uncompressed. Both of these would show up on a bitaddress paper wallet.

annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd that's all folks

very sad indeed Sad

what ever happened to that Overstock.com CEO that like bought a shitload of RVN?? or like "backed it" or some shit??? lol.
or was that just BS info to pump this shit with?
very sad a 'good' promising project has gone to shit.

RIP

No use for asset transfer any more.  Miners still making btc because die hard believers in Raven keep buying.
Miners will be winners here for sure.

I really liked this project.  Maybe they can pull a raven out a hat

yup this too.  very fucked how this went from super potential and the usual bs volume down to nothing, both in tech, development, backing and price.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKTT

This project has been rekt for quite some time.

Unfortunately I was naive and kept a small bag. Fortunately I sold the majority of my RVN at the last pump so all good on my end. Good luck to the bagholders.

I'm assuming development will eventually die, since it's 100% run by Medici. The second they cut off funding will be the second RVN truly dies.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Grin | PoW Mining | Electronic transactions for all. Community driven. on: September 24, 2020, 02:01:42 AM
At the end of the day, the price shows the trend of Grin.
What was it, $25 or so, and now $0.30c
I wont take into account the ATH of over $250.
Lets be fair and say $25.   Its also fair to say that to see $25 again is not going to happen.

Then use it rather than hodling. Grin is supposed to be like cash.
14  Other / Off-topic / Re: Where were you now if there wasn't any Crypto? on: August 18, 2020, 02:38:23 AM
I’d probably still be working for banks instead of against them.

100% this. I would hate my life, get paid a crappy wage to force investment products down people's throats.

I'd also have learned so much less about the world and the need for separation of money and the state.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you use BTC to generate passive income like ERC20 tokens? on: August 18, 2020, 02:29:59 AM
Earning 100% interest on a shitcoin that drops by 50% means you didn't actually earn anything.

How do I earn passive income? Hodl and sell if I desperately need to.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Grin | PoW Mining | Electronic transactions for all. Community driven. on: August 02, 2020, 01:37:55 PM

I agree that we need wallets with a nice UI, but I think throwing funds at wallets makes sense only after we have somewhat stable transaction building. The transaction building process still keeps changing very often. I think it's best to first make it stable to avoid the need to fund multiple rewrites until we get it right.

There's already a plan in place for slatepacks. Maybe do some more reading. There's also many working UI wallets but the devs are dropping like flies because the core devs hoard everything for themselves.

I've not seen any evidence about the council predetermining the outcomes of funding requests. You can disprove this by:
1. Providing screenshots of this happening
2. Having a very clear and obvious disagreement on a public meeting where the council overrides the outcome

If you don't have any of the above, it means they are baseless accusations in which case I'd ask you to please stop spreading such views. Also, council members are free to discuss and form their opinion in a private chat.

What are you going on about? Did you vote? I didn't. Nor did anyone in the community.

This is public information. Go find it yourself. Hint: try the grin forum.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Grin | PoW Mining | Electronic transactions for all. Community driven. on: July 30, 2020, 07:52:28 PM
Why are the dev funds not being allocated to UI wallet support? It sounds like David will no longer be working on Grin++ and honestly, who can blame him? He had to go to Charlie Lee to get funding for a security audit while you're rolling in years of funding.

Dear core devs,

You had how many bitcoins donated so far? Spread it out amongst the most useful people in the Grin community. Voting for each other to get more funding isn't very ancap of you.

On that note, if we're funding devs is there not a contract in place? Seems people can walk at any time without doing work and not much happens in the way of getting the money back or having the work done eventually. Why is there zero transparency on this glaring breach of contract (if there are contacts)? If you need help from the community just ask.

Oh and what happened to the ZEC and Grin wallets that Igno had access to? Obviously not multisig right? So... He's still the only one with access to them, right? Were they given back? Does someone else have access?

You got everything right at the beginning of this whole experiment. Things are starting to slip (and I'm not just talking about the price - oof). It's time to take a step back and re-evaluate the current situation.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ravencoin [RVN] PoW GPU Mining | Asset Transfer Blockchain (Updated ANN) on: July 08, 2020, 07:50:03 PM
Last illegal activity was at July 4, 2020.

This is hilarious. It's an open source project (run entirely by Medici funded devs). Someone adds some code, it gets approved then later the police are called because it's deemed "illegal" by the Medici devs. It's certainly not ethical, but which law in which jurisdiction was actually broken here? It's not theft. They didn't take RVN that belonged to someone else. It's not hacking. It's not... Anything illegal lol.

It is, however, absolutely hilarious that they called the police. I wish Medici good luck on their adventure.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ravencoin [RVN] PoW GPU Mining | Asset Transfer Blockchain (Updated ANN) on: July 03, 2020, 01:03:16 AM
This meme coin just gets better and better!!

Maybe centralizing your devs hired only by Medici was a bad idea. Maybe they're all just yes men looking for a paycheque. Nobody even noticed this. How embarrassing.

1.5% of the total supply was fraudulently mined. Maybe we should hold another discord vote on if we should fork hahaha.

No worries though - they're already dumped on an exchange and the popo were called. I'm sure justice will be served /s.

How it goes: First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they ignore you, then they laugh at you again...  Grin

Damn. Story of my life. It must be my fault. Sorry guys.
