501  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mining with 5970 and 6850 in the same machine (linux) on: October 06, 2012, 08:32:16 PM
Are you really using driver 11.1 with SDK 2.5? Update your driver.

Ok I tried 12.1 and same result.
12.4 and SDK 2.5 segfaults

Now on SDK 2.6 and 12.4 (8.963) and get this on 5970;

[2012-10-05 11:08:40] GPU0: invalid nonce - HW error

probably due to the one bad core?  Not sure.  cgminer still doesn't see the 6850;

I will probably need to just step by step install driver and sdk until I get a combo that works.  The install order does matter right?  So SDK first then driver?

did you initializ the latest card?
maybe this will help
•aticonfig --lsa
•sudo aticonfig --adapter=all --initial

If everything went fine, reboot the computer by “sudo reboot”.
After that, check if everything works:

•sudo aticonfig --adapter=all --odgt

502  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is it even worth it to buy/order an ASIC single now? on: October 06, 2012, 06:46:15 PM
Banks do not need to mine bitcoin, if they need some they will simply buy them, like probably most people if bitcoin becomes more wide spread. In the end, mining is only an infinitesimal side of the bitcoin economy, as it should.

The next 6 months are going to be interesting with the tsunami of ASIC rigs that will go online. In effect GPU mining is on death row. The switch from 50 to 25 BTC reward was already bad enough but ASIC is the last nail in the GPU coffin. With at least a first wave of ~100 to 150TH/s of total network hashing rate (up from ~20TH/s today) from early ASIC adopters, this will have some significant consequences on bitcoin difficulty.

Anyway, we will see how this will shape up. However, second wave adopters will still be able to get reasonnable returns I would think.

well..people were mining when btc against $ was $6,- if blockreward halves @ $12+ not much have changed isn,t it..asic will arrive but not as soon as marketing tells us ...i guess gpu isn, t dead for at least 6month or so... Roll Eyes

504  Local / Mining (Nederlands) / Re: rpc miner on: October 06, 2012, 12:17:31 AM
Hallo mede forumleden.

Succes verder//  Wink Wink Wink \\

i have 2 BFL single SC and a jalapeno on the way. Thinking about getting a bASIC 54 some time this week too. think it's a good idea?  Huh
no
could u please explain?
Have you looked at his sig? He's one of "those" people. You know, the doubters? The ones who'll be making about 0.06BTC/day in about 2 months?
i sure now you do but u are wrong informed about me .. :Dfind me@ https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=110752.20

doing 1000+ $ a month  Wink
OK So you've got 10.5GH/s. That is $1000+ USD a month, like you said. In 2 months, thats going to go down to about $100 USD a month. What are you going to do then? Mine on your GPUs, paying more in electric than what you're getting in BTC? Sell your GPUs, and wait 2 months for ASICs while the difficulty (and hopefully price) go up?

Which one will have more coins 4 months from now?
Option 1: Mine on GPUs for next 2 months -> Continue to mine on GPUs for 2 more months, in spite of skyrocketing difficulty -> In 4 months, still mining with 10.5GHs.
Option 1: Mine on GPUs for next 2 months -> sell GPUs when ASICs hit, order ASICs, and wait 2 more months of no mining -> After 4 months, just starting to mine with 200GH/s.
Option 2: Sell GPUs now, and not mine for 2 months -> Get ASIC preorders, and start mining at 200GH/s for 2 more months -> After 4 months, I've got 200GH/s, and enough from the initial profitability to order more ASICs with ease.

Well.. i adjust as i do now..and i do have some bucks left to keep beeing a medium miner also if everything U say will come true...

and i am in it for the long run..and If asic will be around by the 2nd q of 2013 no skyrocket has been taking my 10,5 gh down to $100,- as u predict for at least 3+ months... but any way we still can be friends you know.. i am just more sceptical then you are thats all... Wink Wink Wink

I have mined 25+ thousand BTC the last 2 years. I couldn't care less of the comparatively tiny financial profits of this bet.

Pics or it didn't happen

Can I interest you in a fully insured no risk 7% ROI per week investment opportunity?

512  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Rig on: October 04, 2012, 05:48:39 AM
What mining rig?  You mean prefabbed?  I gpu mine, for now, I would say I am getting decent results from my 11th hour assemblies which are basically SLI and crossfire motherboards jammed with cheap cards like 5770 6770 and 5830.  It all depends on what you can get them for, I definitely don't think it's the time to buy new parts.  I'd say my favorite card is the 7970, with the 5830 and 5870 being close second and third favorites.   Just keep in mind these are vastly different cards which cost/produce very different things.  Google search bitcoin mhs radeon or sown thing similar to try to get charts of what each can do approx.

I will agree with you that the 7970 is amazing. I can mine at the same speed as my overclocked 5870, and still only use < 100W.

However, I sincerely believe that setting up a GPU rig is foolish at this point. 2 months ago, maybe. 4 months ago, probably. But now? Just sell your cards on ebay, and buy some ASICs.

with the current btcprice it s foolish if u don,t mine right now, i also think putting al ur money in asic is foolish at this moment u are still buying air... Undecided

513  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is it even worth it to buy/order an ASIC single now? on: October 04, 2012, 04:44:50 AM
One thing I have going for me is free electricity and Internet service. I could operate my mining rig remotely. I've never seen so many people put out thousands of dollars for something that hasn't even been made yet. It brings a whole new meaning to the word "pre-order". I guess when dealing with money, people certainly act different. Just the lure of making some money in the first few months when the new ASIC's drop apparently makes people drop a ton of money to some company with no guarantees. Nothing else exists like that in the world, except with drug dealers maybe. Smiley

I guess I may order a couple SC's when they are actually available. I left BFL a couple of messages weeks ago and have not heard a peep from them. Just imagine a few of their employees, getting those first ASIC units, taking them home. I know I would.

U are right about that... i am sceptical about this issue to, lots of people put there savingings into this, strange but we will see in about 2 or 3 months, if it is for real then i need even more questions to be askbefore putting my btc or money in to it... how about the reliability of these divices are they tested for this, how long can they do 24/7 how about spare parts ect. ect. what are the guarantees of these products...it,s al unknown yet thousands paid ahead for them..smart or naive??
514  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL ASIC is bogus on: October 03, 2012, 10:55:52 PM
I was the first who called Pirateat40s Savings and Trust a "classical HYIP scam", right after his OP.
Yet I didn't take part in Matthews bet - get it?  Tongue

Being right about something in Bitcoin-land being a scam is somewhat less than miraculous.  Your performance seem to be somewhat on par with getting heads three times in a row on a coin flip.

Yes, you are right I fully agree.
However: The performance of the masses here is significantly less efficient than a coin flip. There is the tendency to believe in any proposed business model - a manifestation of wishful thinking.

516  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Rig on: October 03, 2012, 08:50:02 PM
Now isn't really a good time to start mining. The reward's halving in December and ASICs may or may not be on the horizon (it's all vapourware at the moment). You're unlikely to get the cost of the rig back even if ASICs are all a bald-faced lie. If they're not, don't even bother getting a GPU based rig. Place an order for an ASIC instead (but then what if they ARE a scam? Aaarrgh.)

Put it this way: don't bother investing in mining gear until January when the dust settles. Certainly I'm not placing any ASIC orders until one of these mythical beasts actually gets seen in the wild. That'll either make me a late adopter, or a savvy scamproof know-it-all. Time will tell.

517  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Future Hash Rate Poll 1/2013 on: October 03, 2012, 08:14:55 PM
Don't forget the ASIC order #'s started around ~1600. My estimate is the total network hashrate will be around 400TH/s by Jan 2013.

Already know. The majority of those orders are fakes or incomplete. They can't be used to create an accurate model of future hash rates.

Any backing behind your estimate, or is it just a hunch?

it is all estimate because it all has to be calculated on the theory that asic systems bring what is promised,  and they could just suddenly adjust there specs 2 mnd before shipments ... nobody knows. everybody paid... i am sceptic until the contrary is proven.....
