481  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Math and Gambling on: November 18, 2023, 02:09:17 PM
Also, a person who masters mathematics will not win the lottery, we all know that lottery winners are most of the time people who do not have great mathematical skills and who have no idea about managing finances, which is why most lottery winners they become poor after a few years. In slot games, it depends on luck, so math is good and useless in slot games.

You don't really need to overthink these games; they're pure luck. Just roll with the luck and hopefully, you win. Bringing math into the mix just makes things unnecessarily complicated, and you might find yourself going a bit crazy, LOL.

Having a grasp of the game and our odds is fundamental. Without that, we're just being irresponsible gamblers. Unless we're not taking it too seriously and just doing it for fun, then it's all good.

In sports betting, mathematics helps a little with statistics, but without good knowledge about the history of teams and players and without following the news, then mathematics becomes less effective.

I find keeping up with the news easier than diving into mathematics. Some websites offer free sports statistics, which can be useful. However, the real challenge lies in analyzing the data and figuring out if it can boost our chances of winning. While winning in sports betting is possible without heavy math, the real key to consistent success is letting math guide your decisions.

How many people have you been able to change after they get addicted to gambling? And what is there level of addiction?

Honestly, I'm not great at giving advice on gambling problems because I've personally struggled with addiction. From my experience, I realized that I was the only one who could solve my problem. I don't actively approach people even if I sense they might be addicted to gambling. Out of respect, I let them come to me if they want to share their problems, and I'm always willing to listen. I prefer not to intrude into their personal lives; I value privacy, and emotionally, I can be a bit fragile. If they're hurting, it affects me too.
483  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you avoid scammers? on: November 17, 2023, 09:44:10 PM
Do not entertain strangers online, and never click or open messages that are sent from unknown, that is one trap to access your account through getting your sensitive information that you should be protecting in the first place. And in instances that someone will invite you to join their group or channel for free, do not bite the offer because it could be free for now but later on it will already ask a fee or payment in exchange to what you have gotten from them.

The online world is full of scammers. So just act like you're one of them and act smarter and wiser, so you won't be taken advantage by those real scammers.
484  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How did you overcome the hurdles and gain confidence to trade as a Newbie? on: November 17, 2023, 08:58:23 PM
Learning from all my initial mistakes and losses is a big factor. If you trade as a newbie, you are more susceptible to commit errors and end up trading as a loser, but the important thing is you also gained good lessons afterwards which will help you improve and build confidence every time you decide to trade.  And by practicing caution in trading, that will encourage me to limit my errors and losses every time I trade.

There's always inevitable hurdles that are obviously present in the trading market. But as you go on trading and become more exposed to the trading market and its highly volatile and unpredictable market, you will learn to overcome those hurdles and instead build your confidence in the process.

On the second game tonight, i have Converge -8.5 @1.90 vs Ginebra. First game of the Kings, might have problem with chemistry.

Good luck with that! The game seems to be a close one, with Ginebra only leading by 2 points now. But it's still too early to worry, as Ginebra could have a big run at any time, and before you know it, they might beat their opponent by a huge margin.

Is that a typo error by @bisdak40? Is it Converge +8.5 or Ginebra -8.5? Currently, on the live betting odds, I see Ginebra at -8.5 with 1.72 odds. It seems the bookies are still trusting them to win and cover the spread. Let's see how it plays out, but I'm curious to know what @bisdak40's actual bet is. Grin
486  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 17, 2023, 01:05:24 PM
Easy game for Thunder. Warriors without Curry is already tasteless, they don't have Green as well. Klay plays awful and Payton is injured now. Warriors can only score with Looney and Kuminga, which is quite contradictional for them. Warriors can't compete against Thunder with only points in the paint. SGA started good, I expect an early Thunder win by 20+ points margin.

They should be thankful because this is just the start of the season and they can still review and fix where they have gone wrong if they cannot win against some easy teams without Curry, then it would be hard for them to gather as many wins without exhausting their star players whenever they play and this will result in a high chance of injuries. They need to change their strategies obviously and I'm sure they will be able to develop some new hope to make their team a great competitor once again.

They had a promising start, and I thought they were for real, especially with CP3 on board and the trade involving Poole. However, it seems to be messing up the Wizards' chemistry now. Just like what we witnessed last season, their persistent lack of inside presence has been a problem. They're getting dominated inside, and to make it worse, their 3-point shooting has dropped significantly.

As we can see, the Warriors are now only rank number 7 in 3 point percentage.

487  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Start with the little you have, you don't need millions of dollars to own BTC. on: November 16, 2023, 09:08:10 PM
You don't need to own instantly a big amount of bitcoin in your wallet. In fact, a lot of bitcoin hodlers do not start with a big purchase but only with an amount that they can easily afford to lose. That's the secret in any investment, know your limits most especially if you are still in the process of learning your investment. You don't need to rush owning a bag of bitcoin, you will definitely achieved it in time through patience and market understanding.

They say bitcoin is only for rich and high status in the community, but we all know its not. That's the good thing about bitcoin. You are free to invest even with a small amount of penny but never expect for immediate profits but be more open for initial losses. That way, you will be able to overcome the risk to lose.

488  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Stevenson vs De Los Santos - Nov 16 on: November 16, 2023, 12:17:47 PM
Shakur should not take it too seriously, so Frank Martin will be interested in fighting him. Because if Shakur comes out dominant again, no one would want to dance with him in the ring unless they are a mandatory opponent.

Shakur should perform well on this fight so that he could get to dance with the big boys of the lightweight division. Top Rank boss, Bob Arum has a plan to pair him with Loma or Devin Haney if he comes out impressive on this one.

But the thing with Shakur is that if his opponent is not aggressive, his fight tend to be boring too, i hope not on this one as i want him to defeat Haney who robbed Loma on the latter's last fight.

Shakur vs Loma would be a good matchup. Please, no Haney. Let Haney successfully move with a win, so they'll not meet, as we know the fight would be too boring to watch. People might not watch it, and promoters will not make money.

The controversy that Loma got robbed; he could redeem himself if he could beat Shakur, and I'm sure Haney will come aggressively asking for a rematch.

Is that true that James Harden wanted out of the Clippers in just 5 games? or is this a rumor?
It's said that it's for real but not until it's official, then it remains as a rumor. But you know with these locker room conversations, most of them are real.

Harden just can't accept the disaster he brought to LA. If he gets out and does not help fix the problem, that would result in a bad reputation for him, which is not good considering he is still a high-paid player. So, next time he signs a contract, he might get a lower salary than Westbrook.

What we heard probably is just part of their frustrations. A team that is consistent in the playoffs is currently on a long losing streak. It's really frustrating, but they could end that slump once they beat the Rockets in their next game.

It's in deniable that he brings disaster after being traded to Clippers,
5 losing streaks is something that affects him personally, and yes, chances that it may be true that he wanted to go out might be possible.

Actually make that 6.

Here are the 6 teams that beat them;
1- Lakers
2- Knicks
3-Nets
4-Dallas
5-Memphis
6-Denver.

Though without any official statement that kind of information can't be validated, a rumor will stay as it is without any valid updates regarding that statement.

They need to figure things out as a team, from the coaching staff up to all the players that are involved to fix the problem and start winning games.

If they didn't struggle, that rumor would not have come out. But if this problem continues to persist, the Clippers' management will be forced to trade Harden. They were a decent team before he arrived, and they just want to get back to normal so they still have a chance to be in the playoffs, even if their standing is not that good.
490  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Every man you failed to lecture about Bitcoin can be a victim to scam on: November 13, 2023, 06:41:55 PM
People who come to invest in the crypto market should not put the responsibility to someone to educate them and make them understand how crypto investment works. If they really want to learn, they should put their due diligence to research and study and learn from the experiences of early investors through reading legit articles online or simply or engaging in the bitcointalk forum and learn everything in there. That way, even if you start being illiterate, I know this forum will create a lot of changes in you especially in learning about the basics in the crypto investment.

However, on part of OP, you should not put the blame in your hands. Although there might be some regret wishing you had taught him, but what has happened had already happened. It should serve as a lesson to the person being scammed.
491  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports betting strategies on: November 13, 2023, 01:55:52 PM
Which sport are you trying to bet on?
I've done the same from soccer to tennis. It works for a time betting the crowd's fave even that 1.05 you are saying. It is a tiresome approach and it only takes a few losses to take those winnings away and you are back to square one. If you are like this then probably you are not watching the games as well.
Who can keep up with all the games you're betting on? When you're consistently wagering on odds like 1.05 or even lower, you end up betting on numerous games. This can be stressful because, inevitably, you'll face some losses, and as you mentioned, these losses eat into your winnings. In reality, this method doesn't seem to be effective. I believe that focusing on quality bets is more impactful than quantity. Just ensure you're betting a reasonable amount, so you don't get too greedy in pursuit of your winning goal.
492  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A gambler's family action. on: November 13, 2023, 01:47:50 PM
I don't think the family has gone too far from threatening the casinos and sue them once they have allowed their family member to gamble. It's an initial reaction from a family and if they can't stop him from gambling and selling all his properties, probably talking to the casino shop owner is the last option. However, this is not enough reason that they will sue the casino for that, they can only do that if they can prove that the casino has been performing against the rules and is creating their own rule for their personal aims and goals.

In addition, to answer the second question, even if your family has not supported your gambling habit all the way, but you can't just easily erase the fact that family will always be a family. The one you can rely on when everything are turning backs on you. And if they don't tolerate your gambling addiction, that's because they don't want you to end up being harmed and homeless. With that, still be thankful for them and share whatever you are capable to share, even if it's the money you won from gambling.
493  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 13, 2023, 12:39:42 PM
What are your thoughts on the Warriors' struggles? It's their second consecutive loss at home, and despite the scoreboard showing only a 6-point loss, there seems to be a lot happening behind those numbers. Clearly, the Warriors are facing huge challenges, and Curry is struggling to find support from his splash brother. I don't know, I think they need to start finding some consistent player and replace Klay on the line up, seems like he wasn't the same anymore after he suffered an injury.

Unfortunately the era of the Splash Brothers seems to be fading. The team is already fatigued if you know what I mean. They require a strong big man and speed. The Warriors are in desperate need of a good center. Looney alone isn't sufficient against bigger, younger players. Surprisingly, Moody and Kuminga seem to outperform Wiggins and Klay as much as it pains to admit.

They had big men in the past with good size, such as Andrew Bogut and JaVale McGee. I don't even understand why they let go of JaVale when he was part of the team during their championship win. It seems they are sticking with their small-ball system, and we know there's a disadvantage in that—specifically, the lack of defense in the paint and rebounding. Their best way to overcome this disadvantage is to shoot well from the outside, which unfortunately didn't happen, at least for Curry's teammates, especially Thompson.
494  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Never say your recovery seed or private key out loud! on: November 12, 2023, 09:53:52 PM
The name already suggest that it shouldn't be shared publicly it wouldn't make sense if you if it is not to be keep private. This is the same as password where you are the only one who knows about it and shouldn't be shared so that no one else can access your account. In crypto wallet, never sharing your PRIVATE key means your assets will be safe. Many of us already knows that there are ways to get your password so that means there are also ways to get your private key when it's online that's why keeping your private key or seed phrase offline or using metal then it should be safe.
The fact that its considered a private key, then no one is allowed to know about it but definitely only YOU. That's why you should keep its security always high so that other people will never have an edge to steal it from you. But if you are the one making a move to reveal your private keys to someone whom you highly trusted, maybe for now your account might be safe but you don't know in the future if it will still be safe knowing its not private anymore.

This is why if you can't keep your privacy for long, then never engage in certain investments that need some privacy. Otherwise, you will only put your investments at risk because you fail to keep your private keys stay in private for the longest time.
495  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Mistakes to watch out for on: November 12, 2023, 08:50:24 PM
Biggest mistake of traders is Do not use Stop Loss or Stop Limit orders. Those order types can help them to avoid big loss when the market moves very quickly, crashes with very panic selling from other traders and liquidations from exchanges.

I agree with this, and that was my biggest loss in trading several years ago, always thought the price would go up again and continued to wait for that to happen because I thought selling at a loss is stupid and it turns out that the biggest stupidity of traders is when they don't stop loss, and the strangest thing is that there is a trader who considers himself an expert but advises on his channel not to do stop losses because as long as you haven't sold it, it means you haven't made a loss, and this is the stupidest advice I've ever heard and he said that on altcoin trading.
Sometimes, using stop loss is crucial in order to help you cut your losses and to help you avoid making emotional decisions that would definitely put your trades into a negative loss. Once you resort into stop loss, it does not mean that you are actually at the losing end, but its definitely a big step to free yourself from big losses that might happen while you are in the process of continuous trading.

By being greedy, you certainly think that the price will keep on growing that's why you decide not to sell. However, if you don't act upon seeing your trades are not doing good anymore, then you could experience more losing if you don't decide to sell at a stop loss. Using stop loss is not actually accepting that you are already losing your trades, but its the best option that could help you out from the big losses that you would encounter later on.
496  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who among you here is gambling at work? on: November 12, 2023, 09:22:51 AM
I've seen some companie who has strict rules and compliance and there's a section wherein stated that Gambling and any illegal activities will subject to grave offense once proven, besides as you've said that this is a common knowledge but we all know that some person doesn't control what they are doing, to the point that it will affect their overall performance at work. Right now, some companies has a work from home set up due to pandemic and I think there's a higher rate of some employees doing that kind of activity while working since they are working at home.

Gambling and engaging in illegal activities are different things since gambling may not be illegal in your country, so there's no legal liability if you gamble. However, it's a standard rule that when you're working, you have to be honest with the company, meaning your time should be spent effectively and in the interest of the company. Gambling isn't a company interest; it's a personal one. Therefore, getting caught could merit termination unless you're exceptionally valuable to the company and they would struggle without you.

Once Draymond got baited into his second technical foul and ejected the Warriors were in big trouble.
I was surprised he got ejected. Even the commentators didn't agree with the call, as the refs considered the previous foul that was already called against Draymond and decided to eject him. I know Draymond can be seen as dirty or maybe just too competitive, but I don't agree with the call.

Quote
After a lengthy replay review, the referees assessed Mitchell with a common foul, but deemed that Green's contact moments earlier were worthy of a technical foul -- his second of the game -- resulting in his ejection.
https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/draymond-green-ejected-donovan-mitchell/1670924/

This is why I thought it was a mistake for them to let Wiseman go last year. They need a young big body who can fill in when Draymond does something dumb.

It's quite odd that they don't have a player/s in their roster that is listed as "C" (center).

498  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Guide] What is recommended to follow "Social Media Or DYOR" in the crypto world on: November 11, 2023, 09:48:58 PM
The fundamental investment rule of cryptocurrency is to always Dyor first. 99.7% of most social media crypto influencer recommendations are pure shill and social media is the space where most market manipulation is generated lately. Besides, the SEC lawsuit against Kim Kardashian, Jake Paul, Lindsay Lohan, etc is an example.
However, we have some experienced crypto traders who tweeted that chart analysis that's different but people still to do their own research.

In other words, we have the responsibility to validate what these people are saying even if they are popular personalities.
As we don't know the absolute truth behind their promotion, but we can do our own research if they are legit or not.
Most social media influencers these days are being paid, so they will say what they are hired for.
The good thing is with a lot of resources that you can find over the net, you can educate yourself on basically any subject you want to check with.
In short, learn to research everything that requires validation. These popular influencers might have created a good reputation but we can't just rely on it and expect that everything they say are based on facts and not just to manipulate us. A lot of crypto influencers have been successful at the start but the fact that they become more exposed to the greed for money, that's when they become more doubtful for us.

However, I can't tell that the crypto influencers in general are unreliable as there are some who are still genuine on their concepts that they are sharing, but in order to keep ourselves not from falling into some of their traps, then DYOR would always be the best choice.
499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if some country decides to pay pension to working population in bitcoin ? on: November 11, 2023, 08:57:13 PM
What if some country decides to pay pension to working population in bitcoin ? What percent of people will agree to getting pension in bitcoin in your opinion  ? What will be the benefits and limitations of this occurrence in long term on people and economy ?
Probably a lot of pensioners will not agree to accept bitcoin as their pension because we all know that until now, only few of the population are aware about how to use bitcoin and use it for their own convenience, while majority would still want to prefer to receive fiat most especially that the older and the more traditional people are involved here. But if its the only option, then they will accept it and force to learn on it.

But on the other hand, bitcoin can always be taught and learned. It might be hard on the start but eventually, people will learn to use it and protect its private keys because its a must in order to keep their coins sound and safe. And maybe we don't know in the end, these pensioners will appreciate bitcoin at the end of the day.
500  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports betting online courses? on: November 11, 2023, 01:59:09 PM
I appreciate the link; I'll check it out to enhance my understanding of sports betting terminology. I'll continue learning through various sources and perhaps focus more on practical experience and observation. Maybe it would be better for me to watch live streams on sports betting that teach or provide information on types of bets. Is there something like that?
I haven't come across any live streams yet, so I assume there's no one conducting live streams to educate people about sports betting. The method can be easily learned, and our differences mainly lie in analyzing the outcomes of a particular game. With experience, we can improve over time.

I know that there is no guarantee of winning, whether I take a course or not, as it is ultimately based on luck and there is no surefire way to win.
You need to shift your perspective on sports betting. If you view it as luck-based, there's no motivation to put effort into analyzing game outcomes or taking online courses. Change your mindset from luck-based to skill-based. Convince yourself that you're engaging in a chance to win consistently, not just a one-time lucky outcome.

I do believe that learning about the different types of bets, odds, and strategies can help make more informed decisions and improve the chances of winning. It's only going to be very difficult to make successful bets if you don't know anything about the sport you are betting on.
That's true. It's essential to concentrate on sports that you genuinely love so that betting becomes enjoyable. Setting clear goals and betting on games you truly understand is better than making guesses without a reliable basis each time.
