I communicated with agath yesterday evening via #btcfpga IRC channel and email, he sent me his signed contract with Tom and we agreed on coordinated complaint to Tom's bank (Woodforest TX). Right now I have found an email from him that he received a full refund yesterday evening.

I'm going to try contact Tom again, hope he will respond. If not, I will contact his bank and try everything possible to get my money back.

I do not think Tom is a scammer, but the way how he communicate with his customers is definitely bad.

Tom - if you read this, please do a simple thing - just communicate! Anyone can get into trouble and I personally can understand that and agree on how to resolve the situation.

It does not mean anything. I have preordered 8 bASIC units from Tom and I have no account on his new forum. All questions important for me in this stage have been already answered (both via this forum or via direct communication with Tom).

I think that price on invoice will be listed also in USD or other "regular" currency, otherwise it did not pass through customs.

Is there anything special for EU customers? You only have to pay VAT and some import fees depending on country (for me is 20% VAT + up to 5% import fee), thats all. Am I missing something?

That would be even more speculative than estimated power consumption

it's mainly because of unclear BFL backgroud (their CEO of CTO or who actually is he) and also because of big differences in promised and real power consumption of their FPGA based miners..


it's not only about 'pre-order or not to pre-order'..Can you imagine what would happen if one of the ASIC miner vendors was a real crook and stole hundreds of thousands or millions of USD? I think Bitcoin really does not need another mega fuckup in his short history..Only we can do here is: Ask, ask, ask..and get relevant feedback..

BFL seems to be a leader in ASIC based miners development (OK, they were first who announced these toys) and I would personally expect completely different marketing strategy they actually use - especially PR since what BFL_Josh / Inaba is doing here is a pure disaster..

OK, it depend on what do you mean under 'profitable', since with this difficulty the ROI for Jalapeno is 12+ months (without electricity costs) and this applies only in case if difficulty stays at this level and will not increase.. 12 months is too much, have you any idea how fast and energy efficient ASICs will be on market at the end of 2013? after 6 months on the market Japalenos will be good only as a paperweight

please take into consideration that not everyone bought GPU for mining, there is a lot of people who bought GPU for common usage and use them also for mining..

in case of 676Th hashrate Ebay will be full of Jalapenos as soon as their owners realize that they will mine nothing with them even the 60Gh Single is non-profitable in this case..

That's true, but I really would like to know in advance, what should I do when $30k device stop working and I will not know, how long I have to wait for repair and how much will it cost (after warranty expiration).
