81  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon update on: April 15, 2013, 08:48:00 PM
good to hear some news =) .. is that case picture all the batch 2 cases? looks cool! any internal improvements? or just diff paintjob?

every batch is going through small adjustments, some internal design is different, and late batch 2 and early batch 3 will look like that.
82  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Selling my two Avalon ASIC Units from Batch #2 on: April 14, 2013, 09:45:46 PM
Hi, all

The Avalon says they will start shipping from April 15. And we need some time to switch my orders to buyer shipping address. So I will close my offer at 2:00 PM GMT April 12. If I will not sell till that time I will myself mine bitcoins on my Avalons  Grin

Avalon says they will not change shipping addresses.

There was a bit of drama with batch 1, where two parties wanted to change the address, then fell into disagreement.  I would make plans for Avalon to continue their "ship to original" policy.

this is correct, all reselling will happen with the unit is in the originally buyers hands, we do not facilitate nor wish to affiliate with this secondary market.
83  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Batch 1 Unit won't power up. on: April 10, 2013, 12:58:38 AM
check if all the cables are connected correctly.
84  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: April 09, 2013, 05:20:24 PM
we added a tested and confirmed working PSU list to the wiki, as well as other power requirement specs for those who wish to use their own PSU or bought a unit without the power supply.

85  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon] Problem with temp3 sensor -- always shows 0 value on: April 06, 2013, 08:31:06 AM
Mmmm, I see what you are talking about, interesting it could be you have a defective temp reader,

Let's move the temp3 to P3 and check if you are getting correct numbers on temp2 to confirm it is indeed a defective reader.

In the mean time also, to prevent the unit from overheating. you can shift the two adjustable fans to FAN4 and FAN5, which will run them at full speed ( could be a bit loud but it is a good temporary solution. )

and if temp2 also reports 0 after switching, then we can confirm that this is caused by a defective temp reader and we'll just mail you a new one.
86  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon] Problem with temp3 sensor -- always shows 0 value on: April 06, 2013, 03:22:26 AM
there is only 2 sensor. I hope you didn't unplug the wrong thing in the processor of trying to find something that doesn't exist.
87  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: wild and unsubstantiated speculation about BFL's power woes on: April 06, 2013, 02:53:22 AM
it is entirely possible they did not even use a 65nm processor node, just something to think about.
88  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: is it safe to set core frequency to 300Mhz (Extreme) for avalon? on: April 06, 2013, 02:49:14 AM
I did some overclocking with GPUs and as far as i read the fear of people that simple overclocking can dramatically reduce the lifetime of a chip isnt correct. The biggest problem for chips is when you set the voltage higher. The electron migration (or something called similar) will make the chip go down faster this way. Thats a fast way to crash a chip.
The second way, but far less dangerous is high temperature. At least GPUs shut down when they are too hot. Asics dont do this so one should be cautious with the temperature. But a higher temperature is shortening the life of a chip but not very much.
The third is to overclock the frequency. It doesnt hurt in its own. The only danger is the high temperature. So if one manages to keep the temperature at the same level while overclocking it shouldnt hurt the chip in way that its noticeable.
If you want to make your chip live long and have better power then overclock and undervolt it. That will give higher speed, lower temperature and the overall live of the chip will be extended.

Im not a pro so if im wrong let me know.

Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe the Avalon ASICS will shutdown if they get too hot. Now I doubt that each chip has a thermal sensor in it but at the very least they might have a thermal sensor somewhere on the ASIC PCBs or somewhere around. It would be pretty silly if they went through all the trouble of designing bitcoin mining ASICS and built no thermal protection in the system whatsoever. After all these are money printing machines, no?

correct, there's an hard-control on shutdown on when it overheats.
89  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: is it safe to set core frequency to 300Mhz (Extreme) for avalon? on: April 05, 2013, 06:37:18 PM
I have been running mine at 300MHz for a while now.  I have not noticed any ill effects.  The fans seem to run a little faster.

I believe ngzhang said that running at 300MHz will increase power consumption, and will raise the HW error percent slightly.

it's proportional, fan is dynamic according to temp.
90  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: is it safe to set core frequency to 300Mhz (Extreme) for avalon? on: April 05, 2013, 07:09:38 AM
300Mhz = safe, but result may vary.
91  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL RIP OFF... price up 90%, 50GH/s for 2499$. on: April 04, 2013, 07:53:47 PM
"all sales are final"

does that mean they don't give refunds now?
92  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who else from Avalon batch 1 hasn't received a unit or shipping information? on: April 03, 2013, 07:44:16 AM
we got a new bunch of problem addresses on the first of April, so you'll probably be contacted soon if you are on the list.
93  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Somebody is trying to steal batch 1 Avalon shippments from DHL! on: April 02, 2013, 07:59:53 PM
Unfortuanately, Bitsyncom used a forwarding service to save money on shipping. It is this random forwarder that actually ships them with DHL. Bitsyncom chose a forwarder that won't provide him with the tracking numbers, so he can't provide them to his customers.

Bitsyncom, stop using that forwarding service!

We already switched. part of growing pains, not that I expect any body here to understand.
Does this mean orders will be shipped out quicker and with tracking numbers right away for batch 2 and 3? This is all we want to know really.

I think it is safe to assume that by default simply because we don't have a chinese new year in between and the Customs backlog that came along with it to deal with. I think we just pulled their leg too much earlier during pre-CNY to get these units out now they are just not being too helpful.
94  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Somebody is trying to steal batch 1 Avalon shippments from DHL! on: April 02, 2013, 07:54:28 PM
few people however, like OP can not wait and are impatient, then something like this happens.

Not the best sentence. If he wouldnt have been impatient the avalon would simply have been stolen. And when you give the package to the post you get the tracking number in this moment. If the trackingid didnt arrive then i only can think of that an employee didnt collect it carefully to give it to you.

95  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Somebody is trying to steal batch 1 Avalon shippments from DHL! on: April 01, 2013, 09:28:19 PM
omg, so it means that anybody who can find on internet your real name and address can call DHL and redirect the package.

question is - will the redirection work also across the countries? For example original owner is in Bulgaria and somebody calls DHL and changes shipping address to Argentina?

If no - then people in smaller countries might feel safer...

Yifu, you have to fix that!!

I fail to see how this is my problem. this has everything to do with DHL. Also there are people on this forum who have yet to receive their units, this is correct. I am not blind, but there isn't anything I can do because I have not gotten a response back for these packages, I can only assume they are on the way. however instead of waiting it out like I suggested in newsletters because units have been shipped, aside from those with problem addresses, which once returned to us, will be corrected and sent out again ( you'll get a email for this, as many others have. )

96  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon users: bitcoind and slush's/generalfaults mining pool setup on: April 01, 2013, 04:55:21 AM
thank you, much appreciated
97  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Attn: Avalon on: March 31, 2013, 08:21:50 PM
we are not looking for investors, and unfortunately batch #3 is sold out at the moment, this means you can do a few things

1. wait till when we finish installing our SMT line and see our production capacity and decide if we were to do another batch or not. ( late April )
2. wait for us to finish our documentation and start selling the Avalon ASIC chips which you can built your own mining machines with. ( mid April )

Currently we don't want any money.

Thanks for querying though,
Cheers.
98  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [VIDEO] Butterfly Labs (BFL) Bitforce SC ASIC Test on: March 30, 2013, 09:44:42 PM
I vaguely recall Yifu predicting early this year that BFL would encounter this issue and I'm curious about why he thought this was the case.

I remember this as well. Like they ran into the same thing early on.

not really, what I said was we also ran simulations for 65nm, and based on our results we knew they will run into this problem, and some other ones I shall not mention.
99  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DIY PCB with AVAlON - BitSyncom, need your help. on: March 30, 2013, 09:30:11 PM
on the site, it clearly we are selling chips, just gotta get some documentation together before we can move forward.

it's a on going battle with ideology and pragmatism, this is going to take some time, but it'll come.
100  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [VIDEO] Butterfly Labs (BFL) Bitforce SC ASIC Test on: March 30, 2013, 04:13:47 AM
Yay! they are not a scam at least. This means they'll eventually ship a product.

fyi: we reached that stage 1.2 month before we shipped. Let's see how they handle their remainder issues.
