81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Man arrested in Germany keeps $60 Million dollars in Bitcoin from the police on: February 06, 2021, 03:06:38 PM
There it is.  They can't seize the money because they can't get the password. Apparently the police has somehow made sure that he can't access his funds.

I wouldn't be so sure, all he needs is a backup of his wallet, but maybe he skipped on that little detail. He supposedly served a 2 year sentence and is now free.

Some Articles:

The reuters one has more details.

82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which altcoins are more friendly with Bitcoin? on: February 06, 2021, 02:37:21 PM
Syscoin.

It is merge mined with Bitcoin so theoretically you could mine both with the same hashpower (if you find a pool that supports merge mining).

Syscoin is somewhere between Ethereum and Bitcoin. It allows you to create UTXO SPT (Syscoin Platform Tokens) and in the future NFTs (Non fungible tokens)

An NFT could be used to denote ownership of a piece of land and can be broken down into fractions.
SPTs can be like tokens.

Also it used to have (and probably will have) a decentralized market right on the wallet.

It also has the capability to do 60-300k TPS (transactions per second) with low fees.

HOWEVER

It's not nearly as decentralized as Bitcoin since it now runs a masternode network.

And it also has a company behind it, they keep syscoin open source but some of the wallets have proprietary tech.

Also it's not very widely recognized. The community is small and passionate but a lot of good projects have gone the wrong way in the past.

From strangers no.. even if some stranger offer me a hit I will not take the joint.. It can be a cop or some guy with hepatitis or something..

The cop angle is interesting. They can lie but since they can't break laws like that it wouldn't be viable to potentially spread covid to try and catch smokers.
I wonder what that means for cops trying to entrap johns in prostitution cases. I've never been a john, or a prostitute but weirdly enough I have been solicited by both (I'm a guy).
You can tell in most cases whether it's cops or not. I don't think they'd bother doing that.

but from friends yes there was 3/4 times this year. I trust them, they trust me and if somebody have a little flue he is not included in the circle Cheesy
Your friend could be asymptomatic so you're risking death even if they have no symptoms. It's your risk to take, but if you end up barely able to breath you'll certainly regret it. I haven't followed every precaution either and my work environment leaves a lot to be desired.

Edit: My current post number is 1420

I'll offer an update, I did get offered weed a few more times since. One was a pretty woman and.... I'm not saying I accepted.
85  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What if life is a dream and death finally wakes us up? on: January 26, 2021, 05:15:44 AM
Ever wondered where dead men go? What if it is all a dream, one big dream and the day one dies here, he wakes up from this dream and opens his eyes to the real life?

If all this is just a dream, then why can't I fly?
Or why can't I turn invisible? Or speak with the animals?

Because you're just a character in my dreams. I can fly and turn invisible and do all these things. no not really
86  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to make a girl fall for you? on: January 26, 2021, 04:20:03 AM
I have the opposite problem. There's girls I want to get rid of, maybe I'll send them your way.

What works in general is to go for them. Take her out on a fun date or two, if things work out you'll probably kiss in the first two or three dates. Just make sure it's the two of you you really don't want a third wheel and it will make her less special and turn a date into something else.

If she doesn't like you, you'll probably know.

Other than that, some physical contact however you manage it is good. The old movie theater arm thing works wonders. My last girlfriend I kinda wrestled her almost, but it was all easy because she liked me.

Give us an update.

I hope I still have my bitcoin private keys when I wake up
88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How to find best Airdrops? on: January 24, 2021, 04:09:33 PM
Syscoin has some bounties on their discord in the form of missions. https://discord.gg/RkK2AXD
The reward for completing a bounty is 40 SYS (~3-4$ currently)
The reward for suggesting a mission that gets picked 150 sys (14-15$)

Also there have been a lot of airdrops in the past and some that are happening now to syscoin holders. The latest ones are to people that have masternodes.

I don't bother because A) I don't want to link my bitcointalk to my discord. And B) I already I'm happy with the amount of syscoin I have.

Syscoin is worth holding in the long term. It has a very dedicated team of devs and marketing people and is great on the technical side too.

All it lacks is any sort of real traction in the world. The community is still small, although it is very loyal and enthusiastic about syscoin.
89  Other / Politics & Society / Bernie Sanders is the new Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee on: January 22, 2021, 03:58:24 AM
Does that even mean anything?

If someone can change things it's Bernie. I didn't pay enough attention in civics to understand the significance of this. This means that he can pass budgets through the senate with a simple majority, instead of needing 60 votes.

Now if the democrats start talking about how the republicans are blocking them on issues like healthcare, stimulus, fighting climate change... They're lying.

90  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Supposed to make me smarter, not dumber on: January 21, 2021, 04:57:22 AM
Hey guys,
I have been lurking for the past couple of years. I have discovered a pattern I would like to share. When there is a bull run on Bitcoin, the quality of the topics on bitcointalk takes a turn for the worse. Is there no moderation in terms of removing completely irrelevant or just plain stupid topics? If I remember corretcly the moderation was a bit stricter back in the days. I find myself wasting so much time digging through shitpiles of topics in search for a gem. “Then stop digging and find another home” you might say. Well, this is the OG, so I would rather not have to.

If you have such a hard-on for getting smarter, then you'll be more than welcome in the technical side of the forum.

If you're reading Politics & Society, Off-Topic, Bitcoin Discussion things get dumb really fast.

You're also part of the problem. Your topic/post complaining about low quality posts is a low quality post. It doesn't really belong in Bitcoin discussion, it belongs in Meta because it's about the bitcoin forum.
91  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The biggest Bitcoin fork is our destiny on: January 19, 2021, 03:30:31 AM
How many times have I read this exact topic. And how many more times will I read it in the future.

This question has been answered again and again.

I'll throw in my 2 cents. Scarcity is good. We don't need lost or burnt bitcoins to be mined again. It's a slippery slope. If you're so fond of bringing back dead coins, why not create/print more out of thin air.

This isn't fiat. It's bitcoin.

There is a more mature discussion to be had, leaving ignorance behind. There is no critical amount of bitcoin that can be lost after all. Perhaps except for 100%.

The more mature discussion is about design.

When I die, if I haven't made arrangements for my bitcoin to move to somebody I see that as a donation to everyone here.
92  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: January 18, 2021, 07:59:30 PM
It's still a really good rate. And maybe this makes it a little more likely people will drop out and spots will open.

93  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Best Investment Methods in Cryptocurrency on: January 18, 2021, 05:17:20 PM
invest small and get out fast at just 1-3% profit

That would require a lot of active management and time. It would also generate more transaction fees and exchange fees when applicable. It would also mean that you pay more taxes as you take profit for every 1-3% gain.

Think about it. You buy bitcoin. It goes up 1-3% you sell. And then repeat.

Nope, the best strategy in bitcoin (and other good alts)  is long term hold.

Other than that, don't try to time the market unless you are an expert. DCA (dollar cost averaging) is your friend. If you believe in bitcoin, stack slowly over time regardless. Maybe buy more during the dips.

Never "invest" more than what you can afford to lose. Crypto is volatile.
94  Other / Serious discussion / Re: How did you do last year? on: January 18, 2021, 05:11:48 PM
No-one in my family got covid.

Overall I did a little better than last year.

I made a little bit more money. I didn't lose any weight but I didn't gain any either. Same with fitness. Not stronger, not weaker.

I stacked a few more sats at the 18k level.

In my personal life I've practically alienated my best friend. I don't have any family members around me that actually get me. I have a lot of good coworkers around me though and a lot of potential friends.

I'm not dating anyone because I want to work on some personal issues first so it's pretty lonely. There's a couple of women interested in me. 1 is way too young (18-19) and I'm getting into my late twenties. The other has an insufferable personality.

I'm interested in reading these here especially if someone has a covid story. Especially the bad ones. 2020 was a crazy year.
95  Other / Off-topic / Re: What's a standard clean tasting vodka? on: January 18, 2021, 04:51:45 PM
Russian Standard vodka is the best of all.  Grin Value it prize!

Tried and true.

It's gonna take me a while to get something else. But sometime in the next 2-3 years I'll just go out of state and buy enough 191 proof liquor for decades to come.
96  Other / Off-topic / Re: What's a standard clean tasting vodka? on: January 18, 2021, 09:32:03 AM
I tried the stolichnaya. I really like the bottle look shape and size. Beautiful glass bottle.

It's good, especially compared to what I remember svedka tasting like.

It's not perfect which is surprising. I wish I could get an ethanol azeotrope so I could water it down in distilled water and taste it as a frame of reference.

Other than the burning ethanol should taste slightly sweet.

I don't know if what I'm tasting is something that dissolves in the alcohol during production, or if there's chemicals that get distilled with alcohol and can't be removed.
There's definitely a lot of things allowed in vodka. 0.2% sugar is one of them. I bet there's allowances for all sorts of minerals too.

I wonder if methanol tastes the same as ethanol,

Of course if you were to drink methanol, you could die, it takes a very small amount to cause serious damage. But I wonder if the taste of ethanol and methanol is different or the same.

Maybe the amount of methanol even at the smallest concentrations makes a difference. But perhaps modern methods mean that there is no methanol in any decent vodka.

I don't know.

If there is some methanol smell in the stoli, maybe methanol itself would have a stronger methanol smell and having some side by side would make a good comparison.

I remember actually smelling alcohol that claimed to be above azeotrope concentration 98% and it didn't smell like methanol. The stoli does smell like there is a little methanol in it.

I'm probably just wrong, and I don't really care enough to investigate either way. Maybe one day.
97  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am Satoshi Nakamoto on: January 17, 2021, 06:09:32 PM
You're a piece of shit for trying to pull this.

And you're incredibly incompetent as well.

Satoshi never wrote unformatted walls of text. And he never talked about himself much. Just not his style.

Also he'd never get close to exposing himself like that. If he's with us, we wouldn't know who he is.

This post is why Theymos should allow merits to be subtracted from a user in special occasions. -100

I used to drink bacardi 151 but it's been discontinued Sad
I don't know anything about vodka, but I do know that Goslings still makes an excellent 151. Dunno if it's available in Florida, though.

151 is the maximum limit they're allowed to sell you in Florida so it should be available.

...Checking...

One of the local stores here has it. But... I liked the bacardi 151 because it really didn't have much flavor to it.
I'll probably try it anyway

Stolichnaya - honestly it’s really smooth and can be drunk neat . Very nice with some lime juice too  Smiley

I'll try it out.

If we're talking cocktails my favorite thing is gin and tonic, but I can't find tuborg tonic water anywhere in the states.
Tuborg doesn't have any sweeteners natural or artificial so it tastes really strong and bitter but in a really good way.

There was a tonic water that claimed to have no sugar or artificial sweeteners but it turns out it has stevia extract in it.

I guess I'd have to buy tonic bitters and mix it with club soda and then I'd get the G&T I like.
99  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sell my bitcoin from 2010 on: January 16, 2021, 04:54:09 PM
Hello
after 12 years i remember i bought bitcoin in 2010
is it possible to sell more than 50,000 bitcoins at once or is it better to sell direct to a private individual like grayscale or microstrategy?

I'm not going to believe you without proof.

Back then there were only a few thousand bitcoin users (I wasn't one of them either).

I might be more inclined to believe that someone mined 50,000 bitcoins back then.

If you're actually telling the truth. I would be looking to buy real estate directly using bitcoin. There's also no way that you could sell 50,000 BTC at once without dropping the price massively on the exchange that you're using and losing a ton of value or even having your money seized by the government or stolen/frozen in the exchange.

The only good way to sell mass amounts of bitcoin is slowly and carefully. It's going to take you days of planning and weeks of execution to sell even a few thousand bitcoin effectively.

If you're serious about this OTC transactions are going to be the best way. This way the market price won't slip down and you won't pay any fees.

100  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is skipping meal a bad habit? on: January 16, 2021, 04:45:42 PM
I’m a bit confused about these. My doctor will always say don’t skip a meal and he will always remind me “An apple a day keeps you from the doctor” so if skipping meal is a bad habit, why do experts and professional nutritionist  say intermittent fasting is healthy?

Do your own research.

I find that fasting for a few days makes me feel really good in all sorts of ways. I think skipping meals doesn't really make a difference since humans didn't evolve with the need to eat constantly.

But I'm kind of nuts so don't take my word for it. But I wouldn't take a doctor's word for it either.
