21  Economy / Securities / Re: [Cryptostocks] (DIVC) Dividend Crazy on: February 21, 2014, 04:37:53 PM
anyone know whatever happend to this fund? I see it did pay out a dividend on 2/18, the first since Nov. I feel bad for whoever all has the 533 shares of this; looks like the average dividend has been about .00025 per share on a stock that went for .25 per share, so only 985 more dividends to go until you can break even! At least you can sell your shares at .00013 btc, only a 99.95% loss (though to be fair thats not counting the dividends, so i guess it'd be like a 98% loss...lulz)
Seriously though I would love to get in on this, the contact info listed is tormail and this guy managed to rake in 136 btc and only pay out 3.25 in dividends. I can't help but wonder if anyone managed to track OP down and sue for civil claims or SEC/FBI issues for securities fraud....
If not then I'd like to announce the IPO of FISHFund...Cheesy
22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Here's a ray of sunshine for this current downtrend on: February 14, 2014, 04:46:58 AM
Since Overstock uses a payment processor to accept bitcoins, essentially removing any risk of loss, they are not being hit by this downtrend. Well, except for any holdings in BTC that they possess. However, that was not a requirement in order to be able to accept BTC.

There are probably a few merchants that were taking a wait-and-see approach to getting on board with accepting Bitcoin. When they see that it is possible to accept Bitcoin even through a halving of the currency's value without risk of loss, they may be willing to start accepting BTC. You can't really do that with US dollars or any fiat currency for that matter. If the Fed Reserve decides to double the Dollar money supply overnight, merchants would have to double their prices. Since the payment processor takes on the risk of sudden fluctuations instead of the merchant and calculates the amount of BTC needed, the merchant will weather these types of storms without having to concern themselves with BTC's changing value.

I think merchant adoption rates will depend on how Overstock does through this downtrend, and it appears they are doing just fine.

here's an even better ray of sunshine I'd say:

23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [VOTE] AltSwap: Exchange + Escrow || Coin Selection || on: February 10, 2014, 08:10:43 PM
vertcoin VTC
unobtainium UNO
dogecoin DOGE
netcoin NET
primecoin XPM
are a few i'd like to see. I'd say its more about what coins NOT to add, those with little to no support from devs, problems with the client or blockchain (i.e. AMC transfers can take hours to get a single confirmation) and other coins that are on their way to death.

once you  guys do get up and running and are looking smooth you should consider sending a message to chris over at cyrptocoincharts.com to see if he'll add your exchange.
Also how about some info on the launch, the site "launched" 3 days ago and dividends have somehow been paid but doesn't look like trading is going to be happening anytime soon. Better to keep people updated to the status of things even if its going to be a while rather than keep them in the dark (ala mt gox)

Thief! I had an idea to make a motley fool CAPs/investopedia style stock simulator for bitcoin!
but i never took the time to actually develop it Wink

The site is really coming along nicely, really combines alot of the features of some of the better bitcoin/altcoin data sites but still keeps coming out with new, orginal features. Keep up the good work!

thx for the feedback Smiley sorry to "steal your idea". but you know. ideas only come true if you sit on your ass and code! Wink i have still a long way to go. i have so many ideas for great graphical statistics but to less time to implement it all as fast as i want to

I'm just glad somebody finally got the ball rolling on this one, given how interactive the btc community is it's surprising it hasn't came together sooner.

Two quick suggestions I wanted to mention though:  dunno if it'd be easy to implement/if you'd want to but---given how the markets have been lately---it'd be nice for investment club users to be able to short pairs. Like on cryptocoincharts.info/v2/investment_club_trades/open have a checkbox for "short" when picking a pair like BTC/USD and if it drops 4% then the user gains +4%. Not sure if youre into this idea but if the point is to have a top tier of users that inform others as to what good picks may be then it would help to have something like this.
Second thing I'd mention is maybe having a minimum open time on trades. On some of the lower volume pairs it could be easy for a user to open a pick on a pair, login on coins-e (or wherever) buy a few of X and shift it 20%+ with only .001btc then quickly close it, giving the appearance that they are good at making picks. Granted this really only applies to pairs that are only on one lower volume exchange like coins-e or cryptsy, but a few of these could make a user look like a financial savant.

Okay one last thing... If I right remember there used to be donation addresses on the old site but I haven't seen this on v2, maybe you should put a link/wallet address at the bottom for people to donate? I'm sure it wouldn't pull in much but maybe enough to outsource some of the coding? I guess you could raise funds faster by issuing a few shares on cryptostocks but it's just a thought, I know I could spare a litecoin here or there if it helps.

Again, great work with the site, i'm sure there are other users out there that appreciate it as much as I do.

27  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Do not trust coins-e.com on: February 05, 2014, 03:36:54 AM
coins-e is pretty infamous when it comes to problems with users moving funds. I remember when the guy started it as an escrow service way back and it was looking promising and then he just vanished for months and millions of different coins were stuck in limbo. Then it went under new management and the process is starting all over again. You'll probley get your coins sooner or later. and by sooner or later i mean later, much much later.

We don't recommend you to register and deposit in bitvesor because of we had found it's creators and had filed a lawsuit on them. So this site will be closed soon.

"Yes your honor I'd like to file a claim against bitvestor for infringement on our propriety concept known as a 'Ponzi-scheme"
*handcuff clicking noise*

That's like calling the cops because somebody stole your bag of crack.

I'm sure some people will make profits with this but it's only a matter of time until this turns all bitbond-y and the SEC is taking action. I haven't done a whois on the domain but if either site has any connection to the actual owners of the funds then i'd start sweating if I were the owners. Just because you put up a risk of loss disclaimer doesn't mean you are off the hook. Again, that'd be like a crack dealer putting a warning on their bags "may be addictive" and expecting use that as a defense in court.
From SEC.gov:
"With little or no legitimate earnings, Ponzi schemes require a consistent flow of money from new investors to continue. Ponzi schemes tend to collapse when it becomes difficult to recruit new investors or when a large number of investors ask to cash out."

Let me fix your post while i'm at it:
We don't recommend you to register and deposit in bitvesor because of we had found it's creators and had filed a lawsuit on them. So this site* will be closed soon.

29  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitVestor.us - Another pyramid scheme... this time with referral link! on: January 30, 2014, 02:26:44 AM
might as well disclaimer it as a gambling site. very obvious ponzi since new money comes in solely to pay off older depositers "interest", but hey its still early enough to make some profits, just withdraw at the start of a "round".

i like the new changes and features, please keep up the good work. I'm not sure what all your working on already but can I put a note in the suggestion box? I love the 12 hour rolling price of all coins, esp with top / flop but at some point can you considering adding different intervals to choose from? Say 2 hour, 48 hour, 7 day, 14 day? Dunno if this has been suggested or if you already had it in mind but I know I would get alot of use out of it.
My second suggestion is to add a simple filter to the arbitrage page (also love that addition) to filter by pairs and exchanges (say: search only LTC, BTG, ANC on cryptsy to coins-e, etc)

Thanks for keeping this site going and giving it the overhaul, I remember when the site had like a dozen pairs and the old setup was perfect but now that there is like 100+ pairs that pile-o-list with links to graphs wasn't cutting it. The new version has really revived this site, thanks for putting the time into it.  I made sure to buy a couple shares to help out the cause too Grin
31  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why you should be excited about china's new rising bitcoin interest on: October 28, 2013, 08:38:46 PM
The big talk as of late seems to be how the trade volume in yuan is surging past USD and all other currencies but I've seen some people leary of this for reasons I can't understand.
ANY nation with a bunch of people buying bitcoin is a generally good thing but I'd like to mention why the Chinese having access to bitcoin has alot of potential.
China has a famously high personal savings rate: http://english.people.com.cn/90778/8040481.html ---somebody can find a better source, i didn't feel like digging. But its no secret that the Chinese save at extremely high rates. But many don't see how this alone would be good for bitcoin/why they'd buy bitcoin. Consider the Chinese gov's monetary policy which is infamous for undervaluing it's currency: http://www.tradingeconomics.com/china/currency This means that all these chinese savers would be more likely to move that savings into something that would grow more.
Now of course this doesen't mean 1.3 billion people are going to start buying bitcoin, China's middle class is still woefully small compared to other nations. However those that do have net access and want to earn on their savings have to be drooling at bitcoin.

32  Economy / Economics / Re: Distribution of bitcoin wealth by owner on: October 28, 2013, 08:20:46 PM
I've been lurking on this thread for a while and the numbers seem to be getting closer to accurate---based on my own speculation of course---I'm not sure if this has been raised already but i think it's relevant to bring up how many bitcoins are lost. I wrote a post on reddit a while back talking about how, if bitcoin is widely adopted, it would be impossible for the value of a single bitcoin to be less than <$1000 a coin. See here if interested: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1cta25/why_i_think_bitcoin_cant_survive_if_its_not_at/
Most in the bitcoin community have come to realize this idea already, if not long ago.
Annnyywayyy, i'm getting off topic. My point here is the need to add the variable of "lost" bitcoins. Not just the ones sitting on the FBI's wallet but those belonging to people who bought a bunch of bitcoins 6 months/1 year/2 years ago and can no longer access their wallet. I would be willing to bet a satoshi that many of these "super-rich" holders being discussed are actually "lost" bitcoins; someone that bought 100 bitcoins for $80 years ago and have long since formatted theyre hard drive, had it crap out, didn't know or think to back it up. Not even just those that bought 100 but those that bought or earned or traded 1 or 2 coins....these especially would be easy to forget or not make an effort to recover throughout 2011 and 2012 when bitcoin "died" at its $30 peak. I find it impossible to believe that ANYONE would buy say 5, 50 or 500 bitcoins at ~$1 and wouldn't cash at least some of them out at $50, $100, $200.(well at least 95% of people anyway)
If anyone knows how to analyze the wallets out there based on last transaction date that would be immensely helpful to determine this magic number.
This number of missing coins becomes especially relevant in the future. Let's say (hypothetically of course) in 2016 If there are only 12 million bitcoin, instead of 14 million, to go around between say a billion people with a total of $500bln they want to spend this means the average bitcoin is 15% higher in value(about $42k a coin instead of $35k/coin...i'd be happy with either though Cheesy ) These are illustrative numbers of course but you get the picture.

Anybody good at analyzing the blockchain that can determine how many btc have been sitting for in the same wallet, say, 1 year or more?

not sure if maybe theres just no message or anything but i'm trying to withdraw and when i input my address and amount and press withdraw nothing happens, no dialog like "withdrawal processing" or similar but its still showing a balance so i'm guessing its not going through. help?

Make sure that you got the address & amount in the correct boxes, I think I muddled them up once & if C&P to make sure that there is no space before or after either as some sites can't cope with that. Also obvious, I assume you divested, if invested before, so that you have the amount to withdraw in your available balance.

Checked and rechecked, got "bad amount format" first time and fixed that, now button doesn't do anything *shrug*
and yes i'm divested and i tried withdrawing my entire balance shown and less than it, nothing. Using firefox, have adblock and such whitelisted.

edit:
FIXED
I restarted my browser and that seemed to do the trick. Should have thought of that sooner, firefox isn't as good as it used to be with lots of random things, time to switch to chrome methinks

Thanks for the help though.

35  Economy / Currency exchange / [WTS] $320 moneypak for btc on: October 07, 2013, 09:57:43 PM
i'm looking to trade a $320 MP for btc(other crypto offers are fine too though). I've traded on here a few times but do most btc buying on #bitcoin-otc my rating details: http://bitcoin-otc.com/viewratingdetail.php?nick=tunafizz
I'd prefer to deal with someone else verifiable, i'm always a bit skittish about trading on here since here doesn't have any advanced verification like #otc so if you don't have alot of recent positive feedback i'll prefer you to "go first". I can be reached quickest on #bitcoin-otc on freenode, msg tunafizz but I get e-mail notifications for forum replies so I'll get back to you pretty quick. Please post a reply below before PM'ing, thanks.

I'm looking to do around bitstamp last but i'm willing to haggle. If gox last is low as you go then  move on elsewhere---not trying to be an ass, just trying to save us both time.

Thanks
36  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MT4 (Meta Trader 4) on BTCe on: September 01, 2013, 06:10:32 PM
anybody out there have a setup guide for this? I've only been able to get the demo server going for BTC-E but I can't even get any charts loaded in(though I'm about to checkout the other thread regarding charts in mt4). I'm sure if I had a couple hours to waste I could figure things out but I'd first like to find out if this thing can even execute trades.
37  Economy / Services / Cryptsy atp/trading platform/"bot"? on: August 26, 2013, 01:51:10 PM
Hi all,

I've fooled around with various trading platforms I've found on here and elsewhere with mixed results (aido/isis, tobli's browser plugin, etc) but most of those use different algorithms based on an EMA and other factors. Right now I'm just looking for a more simple automated platform to basically put in sell orders once a buy order is filled, or if there is a large bid/ask spread then it can attempt to capitalize on that, or similar features.
Has anybody had any luck making anything with cryptsy support? I know I've seen some use based on orderbook behavior but they look like they are being used wrong or largely pointless from the actions i've seen.
I'm not looking to "buy" any sort of bot (I lol when I see people charging 100+ bux for a trading script thats "guaranteed" to make money...if it works so well then why do you need to sell it for a $100 a pop? Roll Eyes) but i'll gladly make a donation to support development.

Anybody tinker around with cryptsy's API or come across something that might fit the bill?

pretty handy utility, i'm sick of using excel so i'll gladly give it a shot. Cryptsy support or the option to enter your own coin names would be nice though. Still pretty nifty tool.

40  Economy / Economics / [POLL] What's your position on gold (and return)? on: July 12, 2013, 09:12:24 PM
I've noticed alot of people on here, and the bitcoin community in general, are always absurdly bullish on gold and are regularly telling others to buy gold. I can't help but wonder if half these people actually hold gold or if they just don't pay attention to the price or if they are just that absurdly bullish.

If you are one of those crazy bullish on gold and actually hold gold are there any circumstances where you'd ever sell it? (aside from to pay for a kidney transplant or those kind of emergency situations)

Those of you who do have money on or against gold, what kind of returns are you looking at? either since buy/short or the past couple months.

I started out about a year ago with only a few dollars shorting a gold ETF since I could see the economy turning around. Once I sold a few btc and had some extra $ (about 2 mo. ago) I converted my short positions on gold  to put options and i'm glad I did. I was doing great on the shorts but I wanted to be greedy Cheesy I'm averaging about 225% since I got them. Last couple days have been rough though but that's just from short-term market sentiment.
