€50  Grin Grin
Congratulations Eurozone Smiley Keep up the good work - I mean keep up the work so well that we'll have to call your zone something else!
544  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 20, 2013, 10:23:46 PM
Aside from fixing some bugs, what else would you like to see?
funny animated gif's if:
current value is below ("1h moving average")-5% => bear time
current value is above ("1h moving average")+5% => bull time
ATH => a lightning storm where bernanke, FED and ECB dance around a bonfire made of fiat

I second this demand. With an addition of something pizza related.

I love pizza.
Something like this?
Smiley

LOL! Awesome! Thank you Puppet - the only problem is though I'm catching up with the thread after a couple of hours I had to pause to cross the road and order myself a pizza (with olives).  Probably by the time I get this far in the thread with my reading I'll have it in front of me yum yum Smiley
545  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 20, 2013, 03:36:36 PM
Did this one pass me by?  Did Bitcoin have any representation there?  Anybody from here that can corroborate any of this and give us the gist of what went down there?
546  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 20, 2013, 03:23:14 PM
It looks like  Al Gore just endorsed Bitcoin Shocked

"I'm a big fan of BitCoin"

"Regulation of money supply needs to be depoliticized.... especially as it applies to virtual currencies"

Any link ?

Agreed. Pics or it didn't happen.

How hard to be satisfied people are! Angry Think about it, 2 days ago would you not all jump for joy if you had known the price will be $60? Now it's just business as usual.

It is funny how that works out.  It's almost instantaneous.  The moment we broke $60 we all began to act as if that was the new mandatory minimum Smiley

That's just so human though.  In my experience we also have a tendency to do that when learning a new skill - once we have done something well once we expect that henceforth to be our base standard!

Maybe the most accurate descriptor I can think of at the moment for the Bitcoin market (since the 750k buy and subsequent peak yesterday) is that it is running around like a headless chicken  Grin *

Zoom out. The chicken has been running up a mountain for 11 weeks!

Yes, I suppose we should give the poor chicken a break.  It seems to have calmed down a bit by now anyway.
548  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 20, 2013, 08:07:35 AM
Dude, it's a blip. Not a "downtrend".
Agreed.  My use of 'downtrend' ridiculously premature!

Maybe it's time for me to look away and get on with my work for a couple of days instead of obsessing all day!

L8r folks Smiley

*Don't get me wrong, I like these periods of high volume going nowhere because it's Bitcoin's main re-distribution time as some take a profit whilst other jump on board for the first time Smiley

WST #3 Europeans who largely stayed out of the game the last couple of days rather than trading blind with the glag (gox lag) are playing the day trading game before the Americans wake up!

WST #4 A significant proportion of the $8m USD odd on the Bid side is that of manual traders (bots can create/delete orders on the fly) and with the US being asleep are not seeing the bargains turning up right now Smiley
550  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 20, 2013, 06:30:29 AM
Wild Speculative Theory #1 for the downtrend:

Some of those with loads on the Bid side see that with no new money coming in today (Japanese bank holiday) and with it not costing much to drive the price down, are seeing if the market can be manipulated down enough to make their big buy cheaper than it was looking yesterday.

WST #2:  Bitcoin reached the highest it ever got to yesterday and this is the beginning of the long and terminal plummet to zero Wink

PS. 6.5 hours into the day and volume is already over $1m usd! (we were over $6m yesterday making it 3rd ATH)
551  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 20, 2013, 06:25:55 AM
Looks like it's fun and games again today - starting with a healthy little tumble in price Smiley

This doesn't bode well for a quiet day of sideways!

Everything I thought of writing in response whilst reading has already been said but I will add my thanks nevertheless.
553  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - SatoshiDICE 100% Dividend-Paying Asset on MPEx on: March 20, 2013, 05:48:06 AM
Oh darn, I'm no good at this tactical posting...

What I should be saying is 'It's because S.D. is up the spout and all this new legislation is going to hammer the price and close it down and therefore everybody should sell now'....

...at least until my buy order has been filled  Grin
554  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - SatoshiDICE 100% Dividend-Paying Asset on MPEx on: March 20, 2013, 05:43:26 AM
How about, SDICE is low because profit is down this month again?

Bitcoin dividends are a large part of asset value.
This is RS's point #3.  Maybe this has a disproportionate effect because my guess is a significant proportion of S.Dice holders are also SD players and gamblers tend to read stuff into short term results and act accordingly.
555  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - SatoshiDICE 100% Dividend-Paying Asset on MPEx on: March 20, 2013, 05:40:17 AM
Even if you exclude wales...
Do you mean by that to exclude the Welsh?!!!
Hey, that's me!  Enough with this bias already  Grin
556  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - SatoshiDICE 100% Dividend-Paying Asset on MPEx on: March 20, 2013, 05:18:25 AM
What the hell is happening with the sdice valuation? People are just dumping these shares with the end result being that I made since start of the year 300% on my bitcoins and at the same time barely 30% on sdice. To me, this does not make sense. Sdice has - proven- to raise the amount of btc earned and payed out, even while btc goes up dramatically in value. So logically sdice should go up as much as bitcoin goes up (ie the share price not dropping when btc goes up). Is it right to conclude that investors are behaving irrationally today? Or am I missing something?

Great company by the way Erik!
It's quite clear that people are not going to bet $1,000 as frequently as $100. BTC/USD definitely does influence the price of S.DICE, but not 1:1.

1) People may be wanting to cash out their bitcoin earnings and therefore selling their BTC assets
2) Concern over blockchain bloat and possible anti-spamTX actions taken by bitcoind (this is just speculation BTW, it will not actually be a problem)
3) Concern over S.DICE's poor luck in March (less divs too)
4) Large investors needing to liquidate their S.DICE shares (this was what happened last time)
5) BTC/USD exchange rate to some effect

Holding S.DICE assets instead of cold storage bitcoins brings you more risk, and is the risk really worth the returns?
I would add to this (which may not be entirely independent of the above):

6) Many investors may still be looking at their S.Dice investment in usd terms and if they'd invested near the top of what they would in usd to start with now have a holding far above what they're cofortable with;
7) From the fact of the price never coming near what it was before a few weeks back when a whole new tranche of shares were sold cheap I'd guess there's still a significant number of shares in the hands of those who at the time bought more than they'd intended to long term with the intention of making a quick buck on the way back up who are now holding something that cost them more than they could currently sell it fo (me, me Wink ) ;
8 ) Increase in btc/usd exchange rate meaning taking a hit on the S.Dice price doesn't matter so much given the usd value has gone up so much.
557  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 19, 2013, 10:40:10 PM
btw, you folks do realise don't you that with an hour and a half to go we're on the third highest volume day of trading ever - and that in comparison to what's happened to the price the orderbook on both sides, but particularly the Bid side have hardly budged?

558  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 19, 2013, 10:31:45 PM
And the onslaught begins anew.
Just calmer this time please folks - I had to explain to my client that I wouldn't be charging him for today because I'd spent all day watching the Bitcoin charts!  If I don't intend to sell my coin anytime soon I should really be putting days in to recover my fiat position - so please, just chill with this exuberant trading please? Wink

Hahaha... yeah... it's pretty bad actually... I'm in charge of teaching the entire broadcast staff at the United Nations how to use all of their new equipment... yeah no, probably not gonna happen.

No broadcasts of the General Assembly or Security Council meetings...

You guys can thank Bitcoin for that.
LOL  Grin I wonder what the value of the total man hours lost today through watching the charts - and following the chatter of course!  It is a somewhat novel experience for me that the value of my assets goes up by a huge percentage more than what I would have earned today.  But as I say if I'm not intending to sell then I need also to be responsible with my fiat income.  Love the UN story though thanks Smiley

Please ignore those sell market orders, they are delayed market buys from two hours ago.  Smiley

Is that really a thing, or you just trollin'?

The MtGox time dilation really messes with my head
Yes, and I think anybody trying to trade into it are either really brave or really silly!
