182  Economy / Goods / Re: 1 oz gold coins for sale on: November 26, 2012, 02:50:53 AM
Gold is often a tricky sell online unless it is assayed or serialized like how PAMP ships.  It is much more cost effective to counterfeit gold then it is to counterfeit silver (not implying yours are fakes).  Right now my local coin shop is selling 1 oz rounds for about 1 bitcoin over your asking price and in my opinion I would rather buy local from a known source at that price difference.  Just my two pennies worth.

I have found that after handling gold for even a short time that fakes are very obvious, I have most of the coins this guy is showing and I can tell you that the color and definition is all right. Just from the photo I can tell those are the real deal.

The fakes generally are not very good, they lack definition and are not even close to heavy enough. Silver is more often faked with success than gold is.

I agree with buying locally, but selling locally sucks around here. The only folks around want to give me 60%, ya right.

It is hard to sell valuable items when you are new. I have had some luck by sending first to well established members. Once you have some feedback you may have more luck.
184  Economy / Goods / Re: For sale 5.9oz Solid Sterling Silver Round on: November 25, 2012, 11:23:32 PM
I should have mentioned in the first post, if you have a strong history of honest trade of this forum then I would be willing to send it first and be paid when you get it.

Once I have gained some feedback I will no longer be sending first, but I recognize that I am new here at this point.
185  Economy / Goods / [SOLD] For sale 5.9oz Silver Round on: November 25, 2012, 09:49:45 PM
This almost 40 year year old round commemerates the second innauguration of President Nixon and Vice President Agnew.

With a total weigh 198.3 grams of .925 sterling silver this round contains 5.9 troy oz of silver.

The round is 63.58mm in diameter and its 3D surface varies between 6.4mm and 7.5mm, the image really sticks out.

This round was made by Gilroy Roberts, Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 1948 to 1964 for the Franklin Mint.

On the side of the round you can see the following words:

Code:
THE FRANKLIN MINT    Serial - 06959
©1973 INAUGURAL COMMITTEE - Sterling Silver

It is available for 16.174BTC which is the scrap value of the silver within. Shipping is free.

Please feel free to ask me any questions.

186  Other / Meta / Re: Bug: Quotes in password on: November 25, 2012, 04:20:56 PM
why did you choose 12345678" ?
this is a very boring choice... next time try something like 12345678"); DROP TABLE USERS;
it will be more fun Smiley

I was just about to say the same thing. When quotes or other odd characters cause strange bugs then that is a sign of potential vulnerability due to MYSQL injection.

Sometimes the password:

Code:
'); SELECT 1; --

will let you log into anyone on a poorly coded site.

See this plaintext link for lots of info on this sort of thing: http://www.greensql.com/articles/backdoor-webserver-using-mysql-sql-injection

I do hope this gets attention from the admins before it does from the hackers.

I almost forgot to mention. Do not use the phone/visa for anything else as they can find you that way.
188  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: annymous web server - howto (need help) on: November 25, 2012, 04:15:00 PM
If your really paranoid about it plz remember that both can be traced back to there sales point and in allot of cases that includes cctv logs that are kept for years. So avoid box stores or smaller stores that use third party surveillance systems. Wink

This is true. Modern security systems can easily keep years of footage on hard drives, gone are the day of recording over the same VHS tape every day.

You can wear a large hat and keep your head down. This will keep you off camera and make the cashier nervous.

The other way is to buy a pre-paid visa from someone on the internet using tor and bitcoins to pay. It goes without saying to sanitize the origin of the bitcoins.

Instead of buying a pre-paid phone you can easily find someone on the irc channel bitcoin-otc who will recieve you call back verification and repeat the activation number to you for a small price.

Ya, that is how you end up getting "rick rolled". Nice try.
190  Economy / Economics / Re: Reserve Bank of #India Looks for Alt Reserve on: November 25, 2012, 04:09:04 PM
That's a chicken and egg problem. Once the central banks of the world started using it as a reserve currency, it'd be well-capitalized quickly Wink

A nation cannot capitalize its own reserve, at least I don't see how it can. It needs to already have a global demand.

I think the major capitalization will happen when polititians learn how easy it is to hide bribes and kickbacks with bitcoin. They will also make sure it stays legal.
191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Interplanetary Currency on: November 25, 2012, 03:58:26 PM
Bitcoin on Mars? Mars is worse than living on Antarctica so I doubt there will be much economy there for a long time. Maybe one day they would have their own chain though.

Even people in the arctic need to pay for internet porn and send their earnings to family members. Of course people on Mars will want to do business with people on Earth. All of those spice miners will want to send profits to their families back on free Earth. Not to mention buying your freedom for the Earth masters.
192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: North Vancouver Restaurant Accepted my Bitcoin Today! on: November 25, 2012, 03:56:37 PM
Lol. This place takes one payment from someone they know in bitcoin and suddenly it is being put on maps and in magazines. I hope this guy is ready for more people trying to pay in bitcoin.
193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Interplanetary Currency on: November 25, 2012, 03:54:21 PM
Double spends may be an issue. You would want to wait for 60 confirmation instead of 6.
194  Economy / Economics / Re: James Grant: Gold, the Refuge of the Idiots (But not really) on: November 24, 2012, 05:40:18 PM
Your description gives me no idea what the link is, so I am not clicking it.
195  Economy / Economics / Re: Reserve Bank of #India Looks for Alt Reserve on: November 24, 2012, 05:36:50 PM
There is not enough capitalization for bitcoin to be used as a reserve currency now.
196  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold - is it really safe investment? on: November 24, 2012, 05:33:06 PM
I honestly believe that the only truly safe investment is in land, because then at least if the worst happens you can always just live off the food you grow there, everything else is relative to the time you're in.

You cannot take your land and flee if you have to. In the event that you must leave the area you are in then you will have to leave your wealth, and it will not be a good time to sell.

Also, around here I would have to pay a yearly tax the the government to have my land and I would not own the mineral rights and if they wanted to build a highway through it I could not stop them. In Canada you don't own land, you pay for it then you rent it from the government.
197  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin major fail - doesn't allow credit creation (aka deflationary currency) on: November 23, 2012, 08:42:18 PM
Or at least, give up on the idea that FRB is a good idea.

Plenty of currencies manage to do just terrible without any help from the federal reserve bank. Which is neither a bank nor federal.
198  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold - is it really safe investment? on: November 23, 2012, 05:44:50 PM
I personally do no live my life on the expectation of apocalypse - I live it on the basis of exponential technological progress. That's why bitcoin is the future.
If apocalypse happens I will have to rely on my very large penis.

Yes, we all have a very large penis to fall back on...

The only three technologies that I believe threaten gold are deep core mining, deep space mining and transmutation of elements. I don't think any of those three are near being practical.

The vast majority of gold's use is already economic. Governments horde it and use it to settle debts with each other. Industrial and jewellery use is a very small part of it.

Silver on the other hand does have a good chance of losing much of its value due to advancements in materials technology. But if material technology makes copper less important then silver prices will jump up because most silver is produced as a byproduct of copper mining.
199  Other / Meta / Re: [To Theymos] Why was Goat banned? on: November 23, 2012, 05:34:08 PM
Censorship is when someone says you cannot publish something. It is not censorship to refuse to publish something for someone else.

When you are on another person's forum and they remove your post that is called editorial control.

When you operate your own forum and someone tells you what you cannot put on it that is censorship.

There is a big difference. The publishers of this forum can remove any damn thing they want, that is part of free speech.
