81  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is stealing Bitcoins illegal? on: December 04, 2012, 06:56:52 PM
...If someone steals paintings or baseball cards, they most certainly will be charged with theft!  Same with Bitcoins... it is something of value stolen, so they will be charged with theft...

I think the key word there is something. Painting and baseball cards are things. Is a bitcoin a thing?

I am sure it is illegal to steal them but it would probably fall under unauthorized access of a computer than theft laws.

There is no simple answer I think. To be frank it depends on where you live and even then some precedent setting case is likely to decide this rather than existing case law.

Bitcoin is really new. The only thing like it is online game money and stealing has always been part of the game rules. I know other countries have found differently but I think Canada/US lacks any real precedence.
82  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Could Bitcoins be classified as an antiquity? (Asteroids are!) on: December 04, 2012, 06:06:10 AM
Ok, sorry. I am going to be pedantic.

An asteroids is a rock floating in space. A meteor is an asteroid as it falls through space. Once it hits the ground it becomes a meteorite.

Please forgive my pickyness over terminology. You may take revenge by making fun of my spelling.
83  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Chain dust mitigation: Demurrage based Chain Vacuuming on: December 04, 2012, 05:34:46 AM
Yes, I was referrring only to the transaction auditing rules. The transport mechanism can be switched out without issue.

I agree that the way transactions are crafted can change to reduce dust production, clients can even refuse to relay dust.

But the dust that already exists can never be moved without the private keys for them, not without violating the transaction auditing rules we have all agreed to.
84  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Chain dust mitigation: Demurrage based Chain Vacuuming on: December 04, 2012, 04:06:34 AM
Where did I sign?

The contract is the bitcoin protocol, you sign when you send money. Any transaction that involves taking away other people's money no matter how small will be rejected by clients due to not meeting the agreed upon contract the clients enforce.

Since it is unlikely you will ever get 51%+ members of the communal contract to agree to this and start doing it at the same time it is very unlikely the blockchain will ever include removal of funds from an address without a signature from its private key.
85  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Chain dust mitigation: Demurrage based Chain Vacuuming on: December 04, 2012, 03:50:58 AM
This cannot be done because it is in violation of the common contract we are all involved in that we call the bitcoin protocol. We have to live with a design that allows these to accumulate.

I have never understood why we could not just take the top 200k blocks and replace them with a "key frame" of sorts and go from there. A very public checksum of this keyframe can be built into clients to prevent revisionism.

If a single satashi is never used again then it never adds to the size of the blockchain again right? Even if you combine the 11% of outputs that add up to 2 cents you will still have all of those outputs in the chain, they will just be spend.
86  Economy / Goods / Re: .99 Silver Below Spot (Seriously) [Willing to Deal]! on: December 04, 2012, 03:28:41 AM
A bottle of "silver testing acid" will turn a scratch of silver on a stone bright red, a bottle of "14k gold testing acid" will turn silver a blueish tint when directly applied.

Because silver is an incredibly efficient conductor of heat. Touch room temperature silver to an ice cube and watch the ice melt like it is in contact with a hot knife.

Because silver is diamagnetic get a very strong rare-earth magnet and touch it to the silver, it is not attracted to the magnet. Now wave the magnet back and forth near the silver and feel the strange resisitence as though you are pushing it through a liquid. This is because silver creates its own magnetic field when it comes into contact with another moving magnetic field.

Trippy stuff.

It could be one of the silk road tumbler accounts.
88  Other / Off-topic / Re: Post your area of residence? on: December 04, 2012, 03:16:35 AM
My address is need to know only. All people need to know is the areas I am willing to ship to. People who buy from me see my return address, I trust they treat that information with discretion just as I show discretion to other people's identities.

A sub-forum where people can create threads for a given locality would be a great idea, not just for residents but also for people who are travelling.
89  Economy / Goods / Re: For sale 5.9oz Silver Round on: December 04, 2012, 02:55:04 AM
Since you are going to the post for me tomorrow anyways, might as well toss this in there too... at this rate, this will be my third successful trade with J-Norm.  He is proving himself to 1) be a reliable seller on these forums 2) taking all of my monies!!!!

Once again I sent btc-bullion silver and he paid me as promise when he got it. Will trade with this guy anytime.
90  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling silver dollar and silver quarters on: December 04, 2012, 02:54:10 AM

91  Economy / Goods / Re: c0ffer Gems - Website Update & Live BTC Pricing [NEW STONES] on: December 04, 2012, 02:42:57 AM
I have a box of what I believe to be rather low value gems, I don't know much about them.

I have some irregular ugly looking pearls, some labradorite(sp?), some raw cloudy rubies(not jewellery grade), synthetic rubies(faceted and ready to set), different beads that look mass produced, some tiny spinels, moonstones and those ugly dyed "rubies" and "saphires" that you get from India and a bunch of other stuff I do not recognize.

I would send them to of you if you pay me 2BTC once you get them(I think this is a low price, consider it an olive branch). If they are not even worth 2BTC then I will probably give them away. I have been told they are not worth much from a local lapidary(sp?) and I really cannot imagine what to do with them.

92  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If I find money in my mailbox … on: December 04, 2012, 02:25:15 AM
If someone sent me an unsolicited envelope full of cash I would be more willing to give them gold or silver than bitcoins. I think 1 bitcoin will one day be a lot of money to spend.
93  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoin debit cards - perfect for 'dropshipper businesses' on: December 04, 2012, 02:15:16 AM
Sounds like a solid plan.

I considered dropshipping items that were not available for bitcoin for a fee, but I could not find a solution to quickly turn my bitcoin into fiat.

It sounds like there are cards in the US that can be used like this, but is there a solution in Canada? It seems our pre-paid/reloadable debit/credit cards have different rules or something.
94  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How can I anonymously and most conveniently turn Bitcoins into cash, preferrably on: December 04, 2012, 02:08:37 AM
If you are in the US, see my sig.

I don't suppose you have envelopes full of Canadian money to sell?
95  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Ebay Scammer on: December 04, 2012, 02:00:34 AM
What if you tried selling something like Paper bitcoin wallet with 10BTC in it, and then physically deliver only to the verified address?

Most of these scams seems to be based on stolen accounts, they may have access the the users ebay, paypal and even email accounts but not the physical address.

Plus you can use a delivery confirmation to defend against chargebacks.

Really paypal will not protect you at all for selling digital goods(ie world of warcraft gold), but they will protect you for selling pre-paid game cards(ie a physical card that entitles you to world of warcraft gold).
96  Economy / Goods / Re: [SOLD] Selling 1oz 999+ Silver Philharmonic - 3BTC on: December 04, 2012, 12:19:21 AM

I'm very pleased with the exchange; I would purchase from him again.

Thank you very much for the exchange. I will be putting more listings up in a week or so but anyone can send me a private message if they want something in the meantime. I  have all sorts of stuff.
97  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Validating transactions with 0 confirmations on: December 03, 2012, 10:52:00 PM
I think they probably create their own raw transaction and have the client sign and send it. I am not sure what backend they are using, but I think almost all of them allow for custom made transactions.
98  Economy / Goods / Re: For sale 5.9oz Silver Round on: December 03, 2012, 07:55:23 PM
Have more bullion by chance?

I do, I will be making listing sometime in the next week or two.

I offer the most sincere and true form appreciation in exchange for the watch. I also offer to look at the watch and think of you no less than 5 times a year for the next 10 years.

Consider my offer, counteroffers are welcome.
100  Economy / Economics / Re: USD is backed by the fact that IRS only accepts it for taxes... on: December 02, 2012, 09:37:29 AM
If the USD was only backed by the fact that IRS only accepts it for taxes then why do other nations use it for their reserves?
