21  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using segwit wallets on: January 16, 2018, 07:04:59 PM
Hi there,
With Wirex we offer SegWit Wallets that you can use on your phone free of charge. And if you know anyone else using wirex, you can send bitcoins directly to them with ZERO Fees. Here at Wirex, we believe that the only thing holding bitcoin back is the high transaction fees that is stunting its growth.

if you are interested in what we have to offer, feel free to visit our website:

22  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What about Bitcoin and consumer protection? on: January 16, 2018, 07:01:23 PM
While Bitcoin in itself can be a very safe store of value when taking all the right security measures, there is not much in terms of consumer protection when sending bitcoins across. This is because the core fundamental of bitcoin is to let everyone be their own bank and own their own money. Unfortunately, this also means that you are typically responsible for when something goes wrong.

With Wirex, We have a highly responsive support team who can help you with any enquiry or issue you have to give you that added degree of security (and the best part, opening a bitcoin wallet with us is completely free). We have also implemented SegWit for all our users wallets so that they can send money while paying up to 60% less in fees and we also have free transactions for users if they are sending their bitcoins to another wirex wallet. if you would like to learn more about us and what we do, feel free to visit our website.

Unfortunately with the current miners fees that bitcoin is subjected to, it is almost impossible to use BTC for microtransactions. However, With Wirex, you can transfer any amount of bitcoins to any Wirex wallet with ZERO FEES. We also give our customers segwit wallets that can reduce the transaction cost by up to 60%. 24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to explain bitcoin to teenagers or children on: January 16, 2018, 06:19:02 PM
Here at wirex, we find that there are many people who are trying to understand exactly what all this is before they even consider putting any sort of money into it. We find that the best way to talk about bitcoin is to compare it to fiat money like the USD and traditional stores of value like Gold as bitcoin in theory works as both.

If you want to have more information about bitcoin that is easy to digest, feel free to use our blogs
https://wirexapp.com/blog/

https://wirexapp.com/%E2%80%8Busd-gold-bitcoin-best/
blog comparing bitcoin to the USD (the most popular means of transaction) and gold (the most popular store of value). In short, bitcoin takes what makes the dollar an effective means of transaction and gold a good store of value.

25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SegWit address ? on: January 16, 2018, 04:37:07 PM
Hi there,
In the simplest terms possible, SegWit or segregated witness increases the data stored on a block to up to 4 mb worth of data in a 1.8mb block by changing the way that the blocks are read as to not increase the hardware requirements of the Nodes. Instead of reading 4 bytes of information as 4 bytes, 4 bytes of information will be read as 1 "unit" of information. Thus allowing aditional information to be stored with a minimal blocksize increase.

As a result, transactions with segwit enabled wallets can be up to 60% cheaper than normal BTC transactinos (although that percentage varies with segiwt adoption).
For more information about segwit, Bitcoin or crypto in general, Feel free to check out the webinars made by our Brilliant Community Manager and Crypto-geek Raphael shalaby. All webinars are completely free to everyone and will also be available to watch soon after the live stream is concluded. If you are interested here is where to find the next webinar:

26  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I explain Bitcoin in simple terms to someone? on: January 15, 2018, 05:40:10 PM
The simplest explanation i can think of bitcoin is to compare it to traditional money and stores of weakelth

Bitcoin unlikes traditional FIAT money like the dollar is completely decentralised where anyone can access the blockchian ledger whereas the ledger used by banks to record such information is kept secret

Also, Bitcoin creation is modelled after the mining of gold (hence the term "mining" for the creation of bitcoins) where at first it is easy to mine bitcoins as it was for the very early pioneers in the american gold rush.
Like gold, after more bitcoins is mined, the harder it will be to mine future bitcoins and therefore better hardware will be required to maintain production. Much like the larger scale gold mining operations we have today just to maintain production and just like gold, there is a FINITE SUPPLY of both.

If you want to learn more about Bitcoin in its most simplest terms. Our Excellent Community Manager and long time Crypto-geek, Raphael Shalaby will be hosting a live webinar explaining bitcoin and blockchain technology.

27  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin really anonymous? on: January 15, 2018, 05:06:50 PM
Contrary to popular belief, Bitcoin is not really Anonymous as all Bitcoin transactions that has ever happened in history has been recorded on the blockchain.
However, the only information that is available to anyone viewing the blockchain are the transaction IDs and the wallet addresses. Although the wallet addresses aren't explicitly tied to your name, it can be linked back to the point you bought your bitcoins as most Bitcoin vendors require ID verification before selling you bitcoins to protect themselves from scams.
That being said, How people anonomise their BTC is through the use of tumbling services that break up the transaction into smaller transactions while dispersing them through numerous wallets before it reaches its destination. making it harder to tie the original owner to those bitcoins BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE as it just makes more hastle tracking the bitcoins than it would be worth in time.

29  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is blockchain? on: January 15, 2018, 04:08:39 PM
What we found that confuses most people about blockchain is that they have no idea what it is, how it works and what it has to do with currencies. So I will try to explain it as simply as possible.

A bank records all the movement of money in a privately controlled ledger that is typically stored on a large computer. Through this private ledger, The bank is the only institution that has access to this ledger and therefore are the only body that can manage the flow of money and authorise transactions.

Now the way a blockchain works is very similar to a bank. Think of blockchain as a public ledger that works very similar to a banks ledger with a few subtle yet substantial differences.

Unlikes a banks ledger, anyone can view all the transactions on the blockchain and is not treated as a private entity like a banks ledger. Anyone can authorise transactions on the blockchain. In bitcoins case, it is the miners responsibility to authorise transactions BUT anyone can be a miner.
Therefore, anyone can see the number of bitcoins produced and circulation whereas with FIAT money like the US Dollar, that becomes pretty ambiguous.

Please note that blockchain is not just applicable to bitcoin but to virtually all crypto-currencies in circulation as all crypto-currencies use blockchain technology in one form or the other

If you want to know more about how blockchain technology works and bitcoin. Our Brilliant community manager and Crypto-geek Raphael Shalaby is hosting a live webinar at 6:00pm GMT for free for anyone to watch. It will also be available after the live stream is over:

33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SegWit address ? on: January 15, 2018, 11:55:58 AM
In Short, SegWit or Segregated witness compresses the size allows for an increased block size on the blockchain from 1mb to up to two without the need for any Additional Hardware as every 25 bytes is measured as one "unit" of information, in theory compressing the transation data.

By doing this, users can take advantage of faster and cheaper transactiosns as there is less fees being payed toward the miners as more transactions can be eld within the same block.

Unfortunately Blockchain.Info has not yet implemented SegWit Wallets as of yet. Electrum is a good and fairly simple to use hardware wallet BUT you MUST use version 3.0.5 or later due to a vulnerability that was patched in that update.

Here at Wirex, We have also implemented SegWit enabled wallets for all our users to enjoy. Also we enabled free and instant transactions across all Wirex Wallets.

35  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to do micro payments with bitcoin? on: January 11, 2018, 05:37:26 PM
As of Now, It is pretty much impossible to make micro transactions with bitcoins with their current transaction fees. However, We at Wirex have been working tirelessly to improve transaction speeds and costs of bitcoins within our network and have implemented SegWit for all our users.
We also have ZERO fees when transferring bitcoins from one Wirex user to another, making it possible to some degree to use bitcoins for micro-transactions .

We are also going to implement B2B (Business to Business) and B2C (Business to Customer) transactions to hopefully allow bitcoins to be used more as a medium of exchange rather then just a store of value

36  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Sounds like a scam to me ! on: May 29, 2017, 06:44:08 PM
I have been using this joke of a service for over a year and I have to say I didn't think it could get any worst ... I was wrong !

Since E-coin rebranded as Wirex everything has changed for the worst, as if E-coin wasn't bad enough already !

Hello Ricardo. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. As you should already know, Wirex is very far from a "Scam" as possible. Though the support team response time is not the best, they always solve any issue any user might have. However, I will like to address each issue you mention, one by one, so we can clear the situation out, ok?

The support response time is beyond ridiculous, I doubt I have ever come across any type of service in the world that takes 2 weeks to reply to a ticket !

#1: The support team standard response time is 2 to 5 days. I understand is not very good, and Wirex is working to improve the response time. What you can do is contact me with a private message with your support ticket number and I will try to speed up the process. Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

As if that wasn't enough, they have hidden rates and they even charge you 1 Eur month for each card that you have (virtual cards included), even though you rarely manage to load any of them.

They don't update the real rate for bitcoin, not long ago their rates were around 1800 eur when the real bitcoin value was 2500 !!!! I can't imagine how much money they stole this way from people who didn't even realize the discrepancy .

#2: That's incorrect. Wirex doesn't have any hidden fees for currency exchange in the platform. The Wirex exchange rates is explained in detail in this article: https://help.wirexapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002983509

It's important to mention that before you approve the exchange, you can see the how much you are going to get into the card, so no one is scamming you. Finally, many companies dealing with bitcoin (xapo being the most recent one) announced that they would not be able to cover blockchain fees for users anymore, due to increasing number of transactions. As you surely know, the Blockchain fee is not a Wirex fee, It is the same fee for other wallets to wallet-on-chain bitcoin transfers.

In my particular case, ALL of my recent attempts at loading any virtual card failed and the money was held  by Wirex . 2 weeks after they merged all of my tickets in one (since I had a total of 4 failed transactions worth over $1000) and their reply was that I needed to send my documents again

I have fully verified my account over 1 year ago and have had a physical card ever since I even sent my documents a second time and now Wirex is coming up with some ridiculous excuse that they need my documents again to verify virtual credit cards? Just lol ...

#3: You can learn about the verification process here:
https://help.wirexapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/207161719-How-and-why-to-verify-Wirex-account-

Please mind that the Card Issuing Bank, for the purpose of account security, might request at any time they want the user's documents. Wirex does not handle this process directly, It's the banks prerogative. I'm not exactly sure what kind of transaction you did with your cards, but if they want you to verify again, the best you can do is comply.

I am done with this service and just want my money back to move on

Now, I understand you are upset with all the issues you had with the platform. However, Wirex has been around for 3 years already. We have more than 350.00 stores in 130 countries, and We have developed the service way further than any other bitcoin debit card service. Why will Wirex want to "scam" users, When we can aim for long term success? I think it's better to be real than loud.

Anyway, I'm sad to see you leave Wirex, and I hope you find a better experience for you in other services. Please, send me your support ticket number so I can track your issue with the support team, and try to speed things up a bit. Once again, I offer you our sincerest apology, and we will keep working to offer better and bigger options to Wirex users, like the new Expedite Card Delivery for only 9 USD, the soon to release Card-To-Card transfers, and small exchange amounts outside of the blockchain network).

I have ordered virtual card in EUR and GBP that are processing status since some days ago, i was told that i reached some kind of limit for virtual cards but all my virtual cards are blocked and I want to delete them as I use these for online shopping and I dont store any money in the cards before using a new one, so you can request to your bank to delete all my blocked cards and issue the news that I paid for.

If you are not going to do this please return back the amount I paid for these.

Has anyone noticed or could explain how does Wirex calculate the blockchain fee for outgoing transfers? Couldn’t find the information on Wirex website, just links to bitcoin wiki and information there doesn’t exlpain the whole situation.
The thing is that I made a few deposits to test functionality before making a high amount deposit to my Wirex account. Everything seems fine but creating an outgoing transaction, now I see a huge blockchain fee which is in times higher than it was before. It seems that with every deposit I make the blockchain fee for outgoing transfer grew higher and higher. Now I’m not sure what would be the fee if I make another bunch of deposits and than decide to make an outgoing transfer to another bitcoin address. Would that fee continue to raise with every new deposit?
I hope that’s some misunderstanding and someone could explain what’s going on with that fee, otherwise such service is totally unusable, at least as a usual bitcoin wallet.
