Are either of them currently under development?

Does anyone know if there are working versions anywhere?

1904  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: so why haven't the government taken notice...or have they? on: January 03, 2013, 02:04:46 PM
Personally, I'm fascinated to see the response from the powers that be when the bitcoin economy has become massive and every man and his dog knows about it. Whatever happens, bitcoin is designed to be pretty much indestructible (much like the Internet itself) so the government response doesn't really worry me too much, and I am very excited to be involved in these early days of this revolutionary technology  Wink
1905  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: so why haven't the government taken notice...or have they? on: January 03, 2013, 01:37:48 PM
so if Bitcoin is soooo revolutionary, why isn't it mainstream? and why isn't the government taking action?

please allow me to answer my own questions and would you please comment on my analysis...:

1) its new, trust takes time, diffusion takes time, slowly but steadily climbing towards critical mass

2) its not obvious and technically complicated, requires trusted individuals to explain and spread understanding

3) its new, first of its kind?, no history or any reference, requires entrepreneurial individuals to test and discover for themselves the validity of such system

4) government IS monitoring, but scale of project is deemed minuscule, non-threatening, and allows project to 'work itself out'

uh ... what else? please add your thoughts.

1.) Yes - most people won't adopt something until they see it on TV

2.) Yes - but it doesn't take much research to figure out how to use bitcoin

3.) Yes - the vast majority of people in mainstream society still have no idea that bitcoin exists (believe it or not), so as bitcoin gets more and more coverage the popularity will continue to grow

4.) BTC is impossible to tax and therefore governments are probably trying to work out how they can tax it behind closed doors (possibly expect cryptocurrency copycats that include full personal identifying information and tracking to be introduced sometime in the future) - they do not want to make it illegal as this would get bitcoin all over the TV and newspapers for months and ironically bitcoin use would then most likely skyrocket  Cool Also it is impossible to make it illegal in a practical sense (much like p2p file sharing). It is the future
1906  Economy / Goods / Wanting to trade 10 GBP cash for 1 BTC (almost 2 GBP over exchange rate) on: January 03, 2013, 12:24:40 PM
I have 10 Great British Pounds (GBP) left over from my travels.

It consists of coins (a combination of one pound and 50p coins)

I am looking to post them to someone for 1 BTC (escrow can be used for your peace of mind)

I am in Australia at the moment so it is probably only worth posting them to you if you are in Australia as the coins are a little on the heavy side.

If you are a collector of foreign currencies / heading to the UK soon / want a little GBP to hold on to this is the perfect deal for you.

This is almost 2 GBP (3 AUD) over the current exchange rate for BTC (currently at 8.17 GBP per Bitcoin as of the writing of this post)

If you are based in UK and want to make this deal we could probably still come to an arrangement Smiley

Thanks for looking and hope to hear from you.

P.S I can add a photo with the coins and a slip of paper labelled "psybits" if you wish just let me know.

1907  Economy / Goods / Re: What would you give me (can be physical or digital) for 1 BTC? on: January 03, 2013, 12:16:02 PM
i have a bunch of random cash (coins+notes), including:

10 NZD     value: 7.93 aud
13 HKD    value: 1.59 aud
3.5 GBP     value: 5.40 aud
50 CNY    value: 7.63 aud
US quarter      value: in the toilet

plus a few other random coins from various countries.

total value at least $22.55 aud.

Many thanks for the offer but I have a lot of random foreign currency myself from my travels!

Thank you for all your offers guys - I am still waiting for something a little different to trade for 1 BTC. Think outside of the box that: old boardgame gathering dust / strange book you never read / random art you can't remember where you got it etc Smiley

Sorry for seeming fussy I am just looking for something a little different. Thanks everyone who has made an offer. When I have more BTC I will be in touch  Wink

- Extremely well written content for your blog or other content based site. (Articles from 500 words to 3000+ words - with the Penguin and Panda updates high quality, well researched, original content is priceless)

hehe let's try that with some hyphens Cheesy

Brisbane or Other?

Other. What are you thinking of trading E&G?

Thanks for the offers everyone keep them coming  Cool

I prefer something unique / cool / wacky / possibly old / maybe geeky

i often seem to totally throw good things in the bin, because donating is too inconvenient (only like 1% of the donation bins around anymore, not like 10 years ago).

the only thing i can think of right now off the top of my head is heaps of no-longer-used shirts and t-shirts, but when i get home i'll look around for other stuff too.

i recently wanted to get rid of a few vinyl records but couldn't be bothered with ebay and ended up just leaving them outside a dj store early one morning with a sticker saying 'FREE'. really nice quality tracks but i sold my decks long ago so no need for the physical when I can just listen on youtube.

they would have been a bargain @ 1 BTC.

I see. Well if there is anything else like the vinyl lying around I will most likely take it off your hands  Cool

I'm still waiting for a "Bitcoin For Dummies" book.

We really do not need anything that makes Bitcoin more accessible to politicians.

On another note, I have wanted to take The Free Bitcoin Guide deeper, further and higher.

Ha ha ha +1
1912  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin Bible" by Charles Petzhold on: January 03, 2013, 04:19:26 AM
I like to think of Bitcoin as an emerging fundamanetally disruptive technology which has the potential to revolutionise society, culture and finance to the same degree as the creation of the Internet itself.

Possible contents:

Part 1: What is Bitcoin?

- Introduction: Cryptocurrency explained
- A brief history of Bitcoin
- Economic theories behind Bitcoin
- The money of the future: how Bitcoin changes everything

Part 2: Using Bitcoin

- Getting started
- Obtaining Bitcoin
- Spending Bitcoin
- Mining Bitcoin

Part 3: The Future of Bitcoin

- Bitcoin's Price History and Bitcoin as an investment
- Possible future scenarios for Bitcoin
- What the future of Bitcoin means for you and the wider world

- Glossary
- Appendix

I am more interested in the content for Part's 1 and 3 so maybe I will just start writing anyway (just for fun), it's something I have been thinking about for a while and I love writing Smiley Anyone please PM me (especially remotemass Smiley

I'm still waiting for a "Bitcoin For Dummies" book.

At least we have the forum...

He said Bitcoin for Dummies not Bitcoin for Raving Lunatics

 Grin

An excellent title choice would be Bicoin: The Future of Money. Also, and I've mentioned this before, since Bitcoin has multiple facets to its workings, I suggest the tome should be written in the style of another great 'Bible' book, written on a subject most here are keenly aware of: http://www.amazon.com/Doyle-Brunsons-Super-System-Course/dp/0931444014/ref=sr_1_19?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1357179129&sr=1-19&keywords=doyle+brunson : Different authors on the various aspects of Bitcoin: mining; exchanges; etc.

Yes well I was confused as well to the actual content, as there is PHP on the cover I assumed it was more aimed at coding for BTC applications?

Isn't there already a book called BItcoin: The Future of Money?

I want to buy a ticket to space with BTC !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fS1FxBq64A

Hey, not so long from now SpaceX will be selling tickets to mars for 500,000. And i bet by 2023 everyplace will take Bitcoins, who knows maybe we will begin sending Bitcoins to mars?
Whats a safe number of confirmations to a transaction to mars?

It depends of what you get in exchange  Roll Eyes but usually 6 confirms, same as on Earth.

Ha ha ha this thread got awesome! Maybe once we figure out how to build computing power into the quantum foam of time and space there will be no problem processing BTC transactions to Mars and far, far beyond Smiley

There might already be such a universal currency in the quantum foam with black holes being wallets. So Bitcoin might be seen as a fork and earth will be destroyed.

Ha ha ha + 1 for the black hole wallets! Sounds like the beginning of a mad sci fi story ...

I wonder if the time it takes information to get to mars would open up the possibility of spending coins both on earth and on mars at the same time and each having their own 6 confirmations before half of them are orphaned

Communication between Mars and Earth can take anywhere between 4-20 minutes, depending on the orbit of Earth and Mars. It would pose no problem for Bitcoin Smiley

I'm glad I don't need to worry about my BTC not syncing when I'm in my spaceship on the way to Mars  Grin

I would like to offer my research, report writing and copywriting skills to members of this forum for BTC.

The services I can offer:

- Copywriting for your sales pages, about your company, product descriptions...
- Extremely well written content for your blog or other content based site. (Articles from 500 words to 3000+ words - with the Penguin and Panda updates high quality, well researched, original content is priceless)
- I can research any topic you would like in great detail (for example: research all of the competitors for your current website, research long term trends in any online industry, research concepts for new websites, research how many websites online there are currently taking BTC...)
- Anything which involves research and writing, I can do - and the resulting writing and report will far exceed your expectations - I guarantee it.
- Actually, let me rephrase that, anything which involves writing, and writing well - I can do Smiley

Why you should choose me?

- I take BTC Smiley
- I independently researched and wrote a 15 000 word thesis for my honors for which I received a First Class honors (i.e I know how to research, I can grasp difficult concepts easily, and I know how to write WELL).

- I genuinely enjoy writing (as well as fiddling around on the internet dreaming about BTC)

Just PM me to let me know what you need.

I can also take on larger projects such as ebooks, information products, traditional books and extensively researched and highly detailed reports of many, many thousands of words.
