121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Ever heard of Prime Coin ? on: October 10, 2014, 01:30:18 PM
Faster transaction confirmations: Since Primecoin blocks are generated 8 to 10 times as fast as Bitcoin blocks on average, Primecoin transactions are confirmed approximately 8 to 10 times as fast

Wait - don't repeat the fallacy that if it confirms in N blocks on Bitcoin, it confirms in N blocks on an altchain with different properties.  Faster block times do not equal faster confirmations.
122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Ever heard of Prime Coin ? on: October 10, 2014, 01:03:54 PM
Did you know originally they wanted to build ethereum on top of primecoin?

There was a time when every new announced altcoin seemed to plan to base itself on primecoin.

Looking at the last several blocks, it looks like some of the heavier mining might have gotten turned off today:

who the hell is Charlie Shrem?
he's a bitcoin early adopter who has been under house arrest for some time for selling bitcoin to be used on silk road.

Im not under house arrest nor is that true. I am guilty of aiding and abetting an an unlicensed money transmitter business.

In other words, a victimless crime.

But from what I know, there is a costumizable Random Number Generator for command blocks. https://imgur.com/a/xrz66

Someone could try costomizing this and see how far it would get him.

Also you can make a Random Number Generator with vanilla redstone.
https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/126856/how-can-i-make-a-random-number-generator-with-vanilla-redstone

For Bitcoin or any other cryptographic purpose, you want to make absolutely sure that your random number generator is solid:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptographically_secure_pseudorandom_number_generator

Flaws in random number generation have made certain Bitcoin applications vulnerable in the last year or two.

Obviously if you don't intend to use a generated key for anything serious, it doesn't much matter how good your RNG is.
I think it would be less of a "I will use this keyset to store thousands of bitcoins" and more of a "I created a bitcoin keyset in Minecraft" Tongue

I should certainly hope so!

But I felt it was good to put a warning out there for anyone who just doesn't quite get it...

Let me get this straight.. this is a computer built in a computer game.

If so.. that is pretty cool.

For all you know, every computer you've ever used is a computer built in a computer game.
131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The problem with bitcoin is buying bitcoin on: October 09, 2014, 07:54:19 PM
Buying Bitcoin should be as easy as buying any currency. I should be able to go the post office and buy it over the counter or order it from a travel agent.
Places like localbitcoins make you feel like you are buying a bitcoin (who buys currency, ever)? Sure you exchange it but buy..

We need employers to start paying in bitcoin.

Sorry if this post makes little sense.

You keep thinking "we."

But you keep saying what other people should do.

If this is what you feel people should do, then you should employ people and pay them in Bitcoin, and you should run a Bitcoin selling business and sell it over the counter in the way you think it should happen.

Or if you want to stick to "we" you can try the voting route.  Maybe your government feels obligated to provide for needs that you see.
132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The problem with bitcoin is buying bitcoin on: October 09, 2014, 07:51:17 PM
If bitcoin is ever to become mainstream then it needs to sort out its achilles heel. That is buying bitcoin in the first place. The process should be so easy that even your gran can do it.
Unfortunately at the moment its way to complicated.

People won't buy bitcoin if they don't understand how to and if none buys bitcoin no one will spend bitcoin except geeks and criminals.

I think the real problem is that there is not enough selling of Bitcoin.

I'll sell you three Satoshis right now. Cheesy

Maybe if you vote you can get a government program to help ensure Bitcoin accessibility for all.
134  Other / Meta / Re: cooldgamer abuse of the trust system on: October 09, 2014, 03:46:52 PM
To me, it seems we have a system here designed to protect the interest of a select few, and leave the common user on the outside looking in. We need a clearer guidelines and more accountability for all, not just the select few. there needs to be a counterbalance. like the ability for an admin to leave a note on trust ratings.

What is this "we" business?  If you don't like the way bitcointalk works, nobody is making you use it.  Why not use a different forum, or start your own?

Bitcointalk is not your government or your country.  It is not imposed on you.  If it is not doing what you like, maybe it is doing what lots of other people like and you should look for somewhere else to get what you want.

Your thinking is centralized.  "Bitcoin" is not a monolith, and it can't do anything.

If you think that people want an easier way to buy Bitcoin, then you can make a lot of money by servicing that need.  You'll make the whole Bitcoin community better in the process.

138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nobel prize for Satoshi Nakamoto! on: October 08, 2014, 03:48:41 PM
The five Nobel Prizes are awarded for outstanding contributions in the fields of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, and work for peace. Bitcoin is not an outstanding contribution in any of those fields, and therefore Satoshi does not deserve a Nobel Prize.

Bitcoin is an outstanding contribution in the work for peace.

Here's a great article I read recently that might be helpful to you:

http://tucker.liberty.me/2014/09/24/how-to-be-a-great-employee/

The author of the article was once told he was "useless."  Watch his response carefully and see if it benefited him or not.

I strongly encourage reading that article! Smiley

This one by the same author is also good advice for someone seeking to build a positive reputation:

http://mises.org/daily/4547

Use proven methods to build a high opinion of yourself in the eyes of others, and you won't have to worry about your numeric rating in an online system.
