Prove it, take something from me.

Have you ever bought BTC on MtGox since Feb?  If so, perhaps I already have!  (And yep, you're right... on your part it was voluntary)

I said take. And sorry, no, I don't use MtGox.

Nothing, and that'll be the beauty of it.  In such a new system, the only person who will stand to gain or lose from your preferences is YOU, not the few of us who were here before you and bought up all the available coins before you realized you wanted some.

Fantastic, can you please give me the option? This is what I've wanted from the start!

Confiscate? Do you understand the definitions of the words you are using?

Um, yeah, it means what you thought was yours, just became mine.

Prove it, take something from me.
284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Early speculator's reward antidote on: May 31, 2011, 04:06:56 AM
I'll bet that in spite of your non-conversion, you'll end up preferring people to pay you with coins like yours rather than difficulty-1 coins, and you'll prefer to pay others with low-difficulty coins (since you'll be able to choose), on the off chance that market forces later tell you you have no choice but to convert.

How much are you willing to bet on my preferences?
285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Early speculator's reward antidote on: May 31, 2011, 03:55:57 AM
Around half the coins in existence haven't even been spent out of their generation blocks, they are in the hands of early miners who acquired them easily and make no secret of their intention to use them to confiscate massive amounts of wealth from others at a later date (simply do a forum search for "retirement fund" and you'll see exactly what I mean).

Confiscate? Do you understand the definitions of the words you are using?

How many 5850's could I run on a Corsair 950tx?

Depending on the rest of the computer, 3 or 4.

Four would be pushing it, but I think that power supply could handle it (especially if it's a corsair made by seasonic), and the rest of the computer was low power consumption.

Wow really? I have 4 right now, and I was considering adding on 1 or 2 more...guess I can't now XD
It's only got an AMD Sempron and 2 fans hooked up to it...

Well dayum, I though I was on the risky side suggesting four. A sempron is definitely low power. Hmm... I personally would not go beyond four. I'd bet money that corsair is a seasonic and they are amazing PSUs, but that's no reason to try and find their point of failure.

Why not both?

Excellent.

I've sent him some info to get them started (basics: white paper, trade data, Wiki articles/calculators on mining, list of merchants, 'weusecoins.com', etc).

Better to just leave mining out.

Mining is essential. Although I would prefer miners be a bit more concerned about what they are actually doing. Instead of leave mining out, present mining properly. Focus on distributed.

it took six months for half the people on this forum to decide that the first alternative to existing currency that they encountered was perfect.

Nothing is perfect. Please, for the love of humanity, provide me with a better currency.

Block sites that bother you. Easy fix.
291  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Early speculator's reward antidote on: May 31, 2011, 03:30:06 AM
and to people who say there isn't a problem, what do you have to fear from alternatives?

Nothing! Please, do it. Oh, how I wish you would act instead of talk.
292  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Early speculator's reward antidote on: May 31, 2011, 03:29:02 AM
this is all self-contradictory. who's the 'you' who's taking away value other than the market? what provides the 'value' in the first place other than the market?

The "you" is the market! I'm saying do it! Please just do it!
293  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Early speculator's reward antidote on: May 31, 2011, 03:20:59 AM
there is no problem though

I'm so glad someone else said it.

That's what you think.  Wait until a client like this appears, and we'll all be listening to the volumes spoken by the market as a whole.  If nothing else, we'll all have a better client for BTC that just happens to have an unwanted feature.

If you can take away the value that early investors have put into Bitcoin at the slightest whim, no one is ever going to bother with whatever currency replaces it because it will just happen again and again and again.

I agree, let the market decide. My coins would be worth much more than the early adopter's coins with your proposal, but I would never convert.

There is a sticky at the top of the page in this sub-forum. I suggest you read it and each link in it's entirety.
296  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Question] on: May 31, 2011, 02:35:12 AM
I heard it was much more complicated.. I saw you had to write a .bat script to open it that redefined the AppData folder

I think the problem is your question isn't asking what you want it to ask. I could be wrong.

You are looking for a way to run Bitcoin from a USB key? You are not looking for a way to save your wallet and copy it into another existing Bitcoin installation?

There is a way to run Bitcoin from a USB key and you are correct, it requires a .bat file.

I'm searching the forums for the solution.

Edit: Does this thread help? http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=26.0
297  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Looking for a new pool on: May 31, 2011, 01:46:06 AM
If I were you, and in the mood for a new pool, I would give one of the newer small pools a shot. It's good for the overall health of the network to keep the hash power distributed.

I have been having some problems with BTCmine lately. I've been getting emails saying that payment amounts have been sent, but the balance in my Bitcoin client has not changed in the last 2 days. Is this a side-effect of the server switch? Is there any way I can fix this issue?

Does the address on the website still match the one you provided?

Is your client downloading the most recent blocks?
300  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining accidents having caused physical damage (overheating hw, fires, etc) on: May 30, 2011, 10:05:35 PM
I now have a permanent chemical burn on my hand from CPU thermal paste...
Any skin I have that grows over the burn dies at a very accelerated rate, it looks like psoriasis.

Good lord! Cut it off man, before it spreads!  Grin
