1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: January 29, 2013, 05:55:52 PM
UPDATES FOR 2ND BATCH

So, we have a problem. Avalon need the money before this weekend starts to place orders for the parts. For those unbelievers, let's hope Jeff receives his unit before batch #2 starts selling on EST 9:00 AM, January 31st, 2013.

The spec is 6.6 ~ 6.7w per Gh/s. Speed is greater than 60Gh/s, batch size is 600, each unit is $1,500, payment gateway is provided by WalletBit, units will ship starting March 6th to April 5th, 2013.

Keep an eye on http://launch.avalon-asics.com as new information will be released on it every day until review happens.

The following is the no bullshit, no fine print terms of sales for Avalon batch #2.

  • Bitcoin Only - Batch #2 of Avalon will only accept bitcoins. Only Bitcoin will allow us to move half a million USD in a few hours into places they are suppose to go to. This will also allow us to automate the order system. I am aware some EU and SA country will have importing issues due to customs, but I see a possibility for re-sellers to grow and take care of this problem.
  • No Refunds - Avalon has always been a BTO - Build to Order unit, we order materials and parts based on the size of each batch, this allows proper financial management, eliminate back-orders and improve overall efficiency and workflow on how we work. How else did you expect us to produce a functional ASIC unit in the same length of time a competitor has been delayed?
  • No Proof - Jeff and/or Bitcoin Foundation will get their unit and release reviews. Let me remind everyone what I've said month(s) ago, we can not stop people from tinkering and releasing information regarding our product, but we seldom will release any information. We will instead focusing more on killer features, some of which is already hidden in our unit. In this highly cutthroat competitive field, we do what we can to survive.

I applaud every potential customer to think over this carefully, and make the decision seem right to you, and only you. Although I must say: life isn't about "making sure" but rather "enduring the uncertainty".

p.s.
You know Inaba, after all this I think I may have understand your mentality: that moment when people assault on what you believe to be the truth with assumptions and generalizations that has really no merit to the situation at hand.

It is hard not to get mad.

However, I must warn you, don't place trust in the wrong people and what they tell you; for when that moment comes you won't able to meet the advertised specifications, at no real fault of you own besides ignorance since you really believed BFL. Be ready to take the spear to the chest as you were their spoke person. I wish you the best of luck and hope BFL can ship on time for when that time comes this forum can go back into the ol' days of competitive spirit of reducing power consumption and increasing hashrate of each others product.

First unit goes to Jeff Garzik in honor for the work he has done for the bitcoin codebase being the only developer who ordered from us.

we also arranged to ship a unit to the Bitcoin Foundation, whom is going to do a demo.

The avalon team on the other hand is going to make sure the whole shipping process go smoothly. like handling DHL/EMS problem, and other custom issues.

cheers.

for the record, I do not know shipping method, nor have a tracking number

It's been 5 days. Jeff were you given any shipping information?

No tracking/shipping info yet.

I should probably say Jeff's unit, I paid about ~$400 USD to "get it out of the country", so it is definitely on it's way and I'm sure it'll arrive before this week ends assuming there's no problems with US customs.

No shipping/tracking information has been sent to me, privately or publicly, as of this writing.

No private communications since Jan 20.

Forum readers know as much as I know, at this point.

Complete opposite, We did some time tables and realized our greatest time waster was us smashing trolls

Not even an email to Jeff??!! Nice time tables

i haven't received a tracking number, too  Undecided
perhaps all this is an advertising trick?

I think you're right.
2- Here's my guess:
They did not have a finished product by Jan 20th. They pushed a delay, and I believe that in some time they will have the ASIC mining units ready (maybe they are already). But by announcing on Jan 20th they shipped the Bitcoin’s First Consumer ASICs according to their schedule, they captured the bitcoin world's attention and now have the upper hand on the 2nd batch and later sales (which they had not planned in the first place). Still they did not release any valuable information. And we should remember they had originally planned to ship on March. Maybe March is still the target.
Let's give it a thought. They did have the time to update the countdown on their website, to announce we should all prepare for a second batch coming, BitSynCom answered several posts on this thread. The guy's online all the time! Even a new web page is being designed to preorder the 2nd batch units... now about the product, still nothing solid. BitSynCom: "You're all trolls and you'll always ask for more!!" Come on! Really smart.
Oh wait, he posted 2 pictures. OK. He said that they modified the design in the last minute and took two fans out from its hardware because its cooling system was doing its job too well.. the picture BitSynCom posted has 3 fans, so it seems to me he did not post a picture of the final product which should have only 1 (Down from 5!! to 3 does not seem reasonable).
What about the software? Nothing. Shipping method? No clue. They announced Jeff was receiving the first unit. Did he get any tracking number or was contacted in any way? Nope. It's now the 25th. Do you really think they shipped 5 days ago and still did not contact the person who will be receiving the first unit? Nothingham.
Difficulties with customs and Chinese New Year celebrations would then be the perfect excuses for a late delivery. They'd ship the products in early February or at least March, they'd still have several customers in their pockets with their preorders even if BFL started shipping their units on Feb 10th as promised.

I was surprised that I was the only core developer who paid for a unit.

Anyways, cooling was the exact opposite, our units cool so well, we removed two fans. ZING.

Then the released pic shows the previous design with 3 fans and now it's got only one?
5 --> 3 ?  Grin

It's already late night in China. Unlikely that they are going to shoot pics/videos instead of taking some much needed sleep.

Yeah, really.  Let them get some rest.

I'm sure jgazrik or the Bitcoin Foundation ppl would be honored to post the first pics/video of one.

BS. Posting a picture only takes 1 minute, anyways, you shouldn't expect that from them as they never did in 8+ months.

My name and order quantity were edited to protect the innocent. Wink

(Order number is real though)

9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: bASIC not shipping till end of March on: January 10, 2013, 03:43:52 AM
MichaelBliss, I don't know how payments were really handled as I never was a bASIC customer, but in general companies accept BTC as a payment only to instantly convert and keep them USD. I understand your frustration but I think that it's fair to receive your refund in USD or in BTC reconverted to today's BTC/USD rate.
Just think it the other way, picture if the BTC/USD rate had gone today down to 4. You would have been really pissed off if they had given you the refund in bitcoins right? Tongue

For me the Electricity costs are less than 10% of what I"m making, So I'm still making 90%.  Why would I stop?
Nice numbers

If you don't already have a standing pre-order, wait for them to come out. The first ones with orders in, will be the first shipped, and they will be the ones to make a killing on mining with ASIC. That $160 Jalapeno will be just like a $160 7770 now, making pennies/day and decreasing. You may never recoup initial investment.
I promise that in the first hundred pre-orders, there will be many, many, many Th/s added to the global hashrate making it difficult for the later orders to make money.
I think you're wrong. The time to recoup the investment will be the same whether he goes for a jally, a little single or a single. The prices of the products are pretty much proportional to the Hashing power you get.
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC power consumption estimates on: January 10, 2013, 02:03:55 AM
The fact that BFL decided to produce their chips in a smaller manufacturing process than the competition, it's really hard they could beat their energy efficiency.
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ASIC System Requirements on: January 10, 2013, 01:43:32 AM
In fact BFL has confirmed they will be shipping Bitforce mini rig SC which is their superior product ($30K) with a free ASUS Nexus 7 android tablet placed on the front of the chassis, this way it will be a standalone mining unit as a whole, mining through WiFi or 3G. Imagine you go on vacation, you could take your 1500W unit with you and mine with it wherever you like heheh Grin
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ASIC System Requirements on: January 10, 2013, 12:37:06 AM
System requirements Cheesy? Just a windows/mac/linux system with a free usb host-capable usb slot, it does not require processing power at all, but it has to run to be running 24/7 or at least the time you want to be mining, with a stable internet connection. A netbook or an old notebook/machine is more than enough.
BFL is even developing an android app to mine with, beign able to use with any rooted android device (phone or tablet) that is in beta stages and will be released for free in Google Play market in the next days/week(s).
Funny BFL video
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is this purchase worth it? on: January 09, 2013, 10:56:22 PM
If you want to stick with mining you will have to upgrade, GPUs will soon become obsolete for this activity.
The good thing about these devices is they are very energy efficient (watch this Cheesy), so I'm pretty sure you will do better than what you are doing right now.
I'd personally try to afford at least a Single SC or a couple of jallies, but that's a personal decision.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When do you use your real name, if ever? on: January 09, 2013, 08:13:08 PM
I think it's not wise to use your real name.
If you ever post a BTC address, anyone can know how many bitcoins were moved from/to that address, and by following up your posts possibly get an idea about how much money in BTC you move. Then nowadays it's pretty easy to find more about you on facebook/web.
You should not leave that personal information available to anyone.
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why are you still mining? on: January 09, 2013, 07:35:27 PM
I started out GPU mining but now I invested some money into ASIC technology. Hopefully I'll be mining again with it soon.

Hi.
I'd like to be whitelisted to be able to post in other sections of this forum!
I've traded several times bitcoins and I've been following this currency since back when 5850/70s ruled and the main market had yet not been hacked.
