Wake me up when September ends. mid-September comes. Cheesy
+1 for the reference, we should add that somewhere  Cheesy

Great news.
Is this an "official" target date for launch? Can we hold our breath for mid sep?
Also happy that the forum is putting serious money in this production (as I also previously suggestednot that this means you didn't think of it).
High-value community needs high-value productions.
Replying a bit late to make sure, but as of yet mid September is a go! Also, very informative threads and ideas!
BTW, there's no special funding from the forum for this.

I've been away for a while, good to see that this idea has some realization.
Is there anything I can contribute to the project in my free time, it's not much time but I could make Bulgarian translation, subtitles, etc. Smiley
Welcome! Sounds awesome, having subtitles, especially for the more educative content would be helpful.

For the logo art are we to make an upgrade on this
As @Rizzrack said, there's a suggested theme but feel free to go with your instinct as well.

UPDATE: Fixed a typo in the prizes.
463  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: August 13, 2021, 10:12:27 PM
@Cyrus how's the filming going along? I know that it takes long for a one-man video crew to publish a video on Youtube.
It's not a one-man video crew. Guess we now have one less excuse if we miss the mid-September launch  Grin

What would you think of organizing a contest for the banner and the logo for the YouTube channel?
Good idea for organizing a contest, we have several active experienced designers in forum who are ready to jump in and start working on this right away.
I think it's a really good initiative! I've touched the subject on my first reply to the thread - see section Fun ideas that could be good(or not] - but this has been a recurrent suggestion, in one way or another:
It'll be great, but don't you think it makes more sense to just let whoever that'll be responsible [I'm guessing it's someone from your team] for designing the video thumbnails, also handle the part for designing the logo and the banner?
Thanks for the feedback and ideas for the contest. @SFR10 brought some valid points, but since we have 0 graphics so far and being a community channel IMO it would be pretty awesome to have at least one collaborating artist to help out. We're going to need more than a logo and a banner.  We should be able to do our own thumbnails for now. Plus, we don't have a graphics department  Cheesy

That being said, the contest has now officially started, posted it on Discord and Twiter as well: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5354384
464  Economy / Services / BitcoinTalkShow graphics contest on: August 13, 2021, 09:05:47 PM
Welcome to the first BitcoinTalkShow graphics contest!

The BitcoinTalkShow is an upcoming Youtube channel focused around Bitcointalk, more about it here: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see?
The show needs some graphics, current priority is a logo and a banner for Youtube and other social media.
And it would be awesome to have the community involved to get them made!

The proposed theme would be combining these two:
- BitcoinTalk inspired (the banner could draw some inspiration from the forum's header layout and color scheme);
- Retrofuture: think of the Back to the Future / Tron universe, bright colors and neon lights.

But feel free to implement your own ideas!

General rules and structure:
- The contest has two categories: Logo and Banner art.
- Participating in just one category is allowed and multiple submissions should be ok.
- Sizes and ratios should fit Youtube requirements and content should follow YouTube Community Guidelines.
- Copying the design from somewhere else / trying to cheat the contest could get you disqualified.
- The winner(s) will be chosen by measuring things like public feedback and what we find more appropiate for this Youtube project.
- Late submissions, before announcing the winner(s), are not guaranteed consideration.
- You could submit lower quality/resolution images, however you will have to provide high quality ones if you win.

Contest prizes:
Logo: 3.9 mBTC
Banner 3.2 mBTC
And possible bonuses!

Contest starts now and the ending date is August 25 2021, 23:59 GMT.
Winner(s) will be revealed by August 28 2021.

Bonus perks for participating:
We might collaborate for further graphics and artwork in the future.
Get a shoutout in a future video about this contest.
There could also be some surprise prizes in this contest!

Feel free to share this contest!
Good luck everyone and we're really excited to see what you come up with!
465  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: August 08, 2021, 08:09:01 PM
I’m looking forward to seeing what comes of this. Good luck! We’ll have to make sure to do our part and spread the word to get those likes and subscribes on the main channel and the eventual clips channel. Get that YouTube algorithm doing it’s thing to birth the next viral sensation.
Thank you and appreciate the help! The goal is to have content the community will be proud of, but
Just like Bitcointalk has signature ads as a privilege to its users and bidding system for in-between ads here, I'd also like to add some 'advertisement facilities' to be availed for the users of this community on YouTube already to let them too utilize all crypto based advertising on this forum's YouTube channel which will also help generate revenue [...]
I think it's a bit early to have a conversation about sponsors. However, if any point there will any sponsors, forum's ad policy will probably be copied over.

As others already have written , i am also excited about and cant wait to see the Teaser and the channels artwork !
If you need maybe some kind of copyright free Music you can hit me up on a PM as i produce my one Music also , if you want and like.
The teaser and artwork should be ready this month, so the links and behind the scenes and teasers will go live before the first video. Get some momentum going.
PM sent! This is what the community aspect is about, looking forward to hearing you music and hopefully we'd be able to add it in /me raises hand for custom theme music in the future!

How did the filming day go, smooth sailing I assume?
I can imagine that he was nervous and excited at the same time maybe.
Yes!  Grin

This is great news Cyrus! Has anyone noticed that ever since the creation of the thread (26th of August) and the first filming days we're just talking about almost 2 weeks? I think we already have a ton of work done in such a short notice, so I'm really excited to see any kind of draft / end result that may come from it.
We've been pedaling at it like wild foxes!  Cheesy
But seriously, doing justice to BitcoinTalk is no small feat! And tried to find a balance between:
  • this is a cool idea, hope someone will do it but might thing about doing it someday
  • ok let's do it, but it's gotta be reasonably perfect, with the huge risk of nothing actually being done
  • it's not going to be perfect, but someone has to do it!
Ultimately, the power is in each of you to decide and make your own minds if you like it or don't. Bitcoin is empowering, right?

Right now, youtube is an untapped reservoir for genuine crypto-based videos, and a lot good could come from it. Question is, is the OG crypto community going to do anything about it or not?
I think that there isn't any other crypto channel with such a huge advertisement made about it than ourselves - we've existed almost as long as BTC's life, and that kind of "publicity"/reach is hard to attain. What we'll do with it only depends on us.

Perhaps more On-Topic : Another small idea, geared more towards charity - Host/Run donation/charity events, but within each members area/country - Basically we would incentivize members to donate to their local shelter / charity house/institution and if provided with some proof of help we could make a leaderboard and the top 3 users would be mentioned / interviewed on the YT channel! This would be optimal if the donation was either by food / money or, since this is a BTC forum, why not crypto? What better way to push further the adoption?
Good points and agree! I think most of the popular crypto content out there gravitates around price talk and maybe some projects being advertised, while at the opposite side you have technical/educational videos, and if given the opportunity I'd spend my time watching the later.
However, I think there's a lack of content regarding the culture, the history and here BitcoinTalk deserves the spotlight! Adding some entertainment along the way of course.
The charity idea is also something I'd really look forward to.

And sometimes you suffer setbacks like a youtube copystrike or maybe they decide to pull some of your videos. Don't forget these are centralized services that can kick you off their platform if they want. Recently I was kicked off AWS for the second time along with my in-development business API so it has to find a new home  Sad
A lot of youtubers have expressed their opinion about this where some legit channels were kicked off the platform without breaking any rules. Youtube is centralised and they only want content that identifies with their rules and values if Crypocurrency is one of those that does not I can see them removing all videos related to crypo. They could justify it to by saying that cryptocurrencies are unsafe and point towards altcoins being most scams.
Yeah, that's definitely a risk. What about having some alternatives as well, some opininions regarding https://d.tube and others would be nice.
466  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: August 04, 2021, 11:12:24 PM
A few updates:
First filming day was a few days ago. Hopefully it won't be the only filming day, looking forward to adding more of the cool ideas in!  Grin
We're also working on the channel's artwork. We'll likely need more materials so if you know any crypto artists that would feel inspired by the idea, point them here!
After we get a teaser and basic graphics done, the URLs will go public.

Thank you everyone again!

First of all the Image you have done looks awesome !
Dont know if it was mentioned before but i would love to see also maybe some tutorials how the Forum is working , would be informative and specially for new Users maybe helpful. [...]
Thank you! A bigger, higher quality one is in the works. Guides as well, in the future.

Official “Fillippone” pronunciation:

https://youtu.be/2dD3hBaB7Cg?t=40m11s
I’d toss it out there that my username is pronounced like aug-nasty not O.G. Nasty [...]
Both of your usernames were included actually! Gave @Fillippone's channel a shoutout, thanks! Also, @OgNasty, funny that I kinda said something about that, no spoilers tho!  Cheesy

Smash that like button and hit subscribe for more content <followed by profuse gratitude expressed to subscribers> and a thumbnail with the video creator [with hands covering eyes/hands on side of face/looking confused/angry/whatever].  Over and over.  I do hope the bitcointalk channel doesn't end up being molded from the same cookie-cutter pattern.
Yeah, this is definitely overused. At this point, viewers know how to use Youtube, and know how to support the creators. Thumbnails unfortunately are part of the business, you need to create something that intrigues enough for a click, and then you need to hook them within the first few seconds. The cookie cutter pattern as you put it, exists because that's whats proven to be effective. Now, I don't expect this Youtube channel to be at all cookie cutter, though. A channel about Bitcoin will definitely be more niche, and there won't be the stupid clickbait thumbnails that we've become accustomed too.
Well in this case, got some good news and some bad news. In short, you're probably going to hear the word smash in one of the videos. Not actually a fan of the cookie cutter pattern as you put it and as @Welsh said is just some industry standard. However I enjoy creative twists to it, even mocking it.
In a way, what I thought would be cool, is to see content about something close and dear to us in a way that you'd expect to see from a more established mainstream channel. Is it a good idea, will we pull it off or fail to make this relatable, informative and also funny? I don't know yet, it's an experiment. Format and content are in flux and in the future they might adapt and maybe expand.

Will there be face reveals?
Yes.

Pilot episode :
First of all, for the channel to be successful, Cyrus has to wear a bikini in a swimming pool on an big banana (NSFW) Smiley
This has been discussed! Cheesy

I feel like there a place for Bitcoin themed content with high production value . Something that's community oriented, without being endorsed by some big company/products or already big channels doing a Bitcoin/cryptocurrency video every now and then. And something that's not just talking about price speculation!
For starters: Imagine LinusTechTips and the theme would be BitcoinTalk instead of tech reviews.

Bitcoin related game shows was also something running through my head while away from the forum. Might be a fun project in the future.

Bitcoin game shows! That's a cool idea, though we need to either create a format of our own, or... find an open licensed format? Not sure if those exist, for any popular shows.
Speaking of games, here's an idea, do some videos while playing games with a crypto twist. Got the idea from here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5351369

Also, on another note: For an upcoming video segment that's going to be filmed tomorrow (surprise!), we're going to read out loud a list of usernames we've all probably read in our inside voice wrong the whole time!
Got any ideas? Should we start another thread for this?
474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Game with hidden Bitcoin on: July 28, 2021, 07:35:27 PM
The idea and graphics are cool, the point and click genre is suiting. But given the theme,my input here is that I hope there's going to be references to the Barber's Paradox.
475  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: July 28, 2021, 07:02:00 PM
Great info from everyone  so far thank you!
Here's the current plan and progress:
Hired a company to film and edit. Production value aimed: very high!
First filming day will be really soon, so the first few episodes will be prerecorded and released when ready.
This whole thing an experiment, so content and format will likely evolve over time, as long as there's interest for it.
Likely themes for the first few episodes feature the BitcoinTalk Anniversary, Community Awards 2020, etc.
In time we'll start doing educational material as well, such as forum guides and news bits. Also interviews!
476  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: July 27, 2021, 09:05:25 PM
Maybe a recap on the art competition held last 10th anniversary of bitcoin talk forum. I think its cool to see and filmed those submission arts and hand drawn designs.

Aside from others suggestion. I think its good if you have some designer for the clips so it can be uniform when you set a video. Just a suggestion but maybe you can handle it well @cyrus.
Good one! Had a list already and that's for sure a video that I'd enjoy. Yeah, totally not a one man job, as discussed above.

[...]
We all know visual learning is more impactive than just reading, when newbie (or everyone) get to see how these things are done visually they can easily follow up.
[...]
There are so many news outlets out there that members can't trust them to give you important update on trending news about the industry.
[...]
I agree that most people identify as visual learners, some tend to disagree, here's a recent clip from Veritasium about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhgwIhB58PA
Forum guides is something definitely worth looking into, but not immediately interesting for lots of people. If the channel grows and we have an influx of people coming from Youtube then some tutorials would come in handy IMO.
As for impartiality, I wouldn't associate myself with such an endeavour if I felt it was biased. It needs to be impartial and transparent.

That is true, and especially younger people never even heard that Bitcointalk forum exists, and I am just hoping they won't get evil fee welcome message when they try to register, or they will consider it a scam.
Here's an example: https://twitter.com/lucianorocha89/status/1415308069525929986
The user didn't seem to reply yet, however maybe they could ask for whitelisting @Bitcointalk, could be useful for some?

It looks great Smiley
- How big is it?
Around 8'', so... more like 7''.
Going to do a bigger one, likely with more detail.

Will try to reply to the newer posts a bit later. Thank you everyone for your input so far!
477  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: July 27, 2021, 01:54:26 AM
I get what you're saying regarding the Youtube thing. I recently started interacting over at Twitter and was surprised just how many people apparently really into crypto (judging by their avatar, description and tweets) were oblivious to BitcoinTalk!

Worth noting; if this ever did take off, then it would probably be a good idea to repurpose the Twitter account @Bitcointalk for marketing. I know previously its been used for announcing any major issues with the forum i.e outages.

It's something that I recently brought up to theymos. Not for marketing anything, but IMO it should be used for more than to Just inform people of outages. Plus, it would help bring some new information about this place out there.

FWIW,  I see the Bitcointalk Youtube channel just as official as the Discord server - don't like slapping official on things anyway.
478  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: July 27, 2021, 12:28:14 AM
Bitcointalk the Joe Rogan of cryptocurrencies?
That would be cool!  Cheesy
A podcast would probably catch on more easily than other formats, since they're really popular right now. It's also easier to produce after the set-up is done. But would it be worth having yet another crypto podcast?

Also, @cyrus fantastic logo.
Thank you! It was a quick job, the quality could definitely be better.
Also, great list of popular/not very popular!

I like the ideas so far, and IMO the channel wouldn't need to settle on just ONE format. As we grow, more of these ideas could be realized. Just need to figure out a good starting point. One that could be forgiving enough as we learn how to create this type of content.
479  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: July 26, 2021, 11:05:02 PM
Maybe also a weekly interview with one forum member, although this ma be a bit more difficult for privacy reasons, users may not want to go through the stress of ensuring no one can trace their identity through such means.

Weekly awards for best posts, worst posts etc could also be cool.

Interviews would be cool. I agree with you and @Welsh that some might be reluctant in participating, but it's not like we have to churn an interview every week, so should be fine.
Weekly awards for best and worst posts is good idea! Could be added as a segment to a weekly video, like the last part of the video would be about that.

I'd love to see some overwhelming positive content.  How about a MrBeast like channel?
That's taking the awards thing to a whole(some!) other level!
I like the idea! But more funding would be needed and some good people/causes to invest in.

Sounds like a good idea! One thing I'd suggest is (quality) posts that get a lot of merits - for example: top merited post for that week - and threads that get a lot of traction maybe ones that get a lot of heavy discussion and interaction too rather than number of replies (like the weight of the posts in a topic).

Theymos suggested doing news stuff on that topic and I'd be interested in trying to make stories neutral and accurate if you needed the help... I think I'm a bit crypto-skeptic when it comes to things like ICOs and altcoins (although I'm not sure I have a firm grasp on crypto news articles as I normally rely on mainstream media for crypto stuff).
I find this approach interesting. Though more oriented to an news/article outlet, rather than video format, right? Which is fine and like to work on that sometime if it is of interest to the community.

NEW EPISODE JUST AIRED: https://youtu.be/ZSKimRE6qmY

It's been a while since theymos suggested a Youtube channel for Bitcointalk. The general sentiment seemed that it would be cool to have one. And I agree!

So let's say someone would start filming tomorrow. What type of content/themes would you like to see?
Things that you'd like to watch, whether you're a grumpy Bitcointalk veteran or just hearing out about our wonderful community.
