1  Economy / Goods / House with tenant, 10 miles from Manhattan, available for serious inquiries only on: October 29, 2014, 08:06:35 PM
If you are an early bitcoin adopter and are ready to convert to real estate currently generating over 3% annually after property taxes, then consider sending me an inquiry about the house I own in New Jersey (10 miles west of Manhattan), that currently has a tenant with a lease.  I'm interested in a BTC for real property swap based on Zillow's Zestimate valuation.  Oh, did I mention that Zillow's Zestimate on this property ($478G) has been zooming because NJ is coming out of a severe housing crunch?

http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/346-5th-Ave-River-Edge-NJ-07661/

Serious inquiries only, please. Please respect the rights of privacy of the tenant.  Direct all inquiries to me.  Thank you.

2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: One VM per wallet, secure? cost-effective? efficient? on: December 28, 2013, 06:02:53 AM
A VM that is connected to the internet is exposed to hacking, and the fact that your computer uses VMs will not immunize it.  A cold wallet has no connection to the internet. Ever.  Keep substantial amounts in a cold wallet.  Discretionary Bitcoin used for currency needs can reasonably be kept in a wallet linked or occasionally opened to the internet, if the wallet is encrypted and redundantly backed up.  To sum up, VMs are not automatically secure.  Use hot and cold wallets after deciding the balance you want between security and convenience.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt Big Giveaway!!! on: December 25, 2013, 08:24:04 PM
I succeeded in installing the NXT client two days ago, even though my VM is 32 bit Xubuntu.  I purchased 1000 NXT at dgex.com and am now looking at an 18% increase in just two days.  However, I am still awaiting confirmation of a test transfer of 20 NXT from dgex.com to my NXT client (no fee offered).

A NXT donation to 9153877396726792669 would be appreciated, as it would allow me to learn more about this second generation crypto-protocol.
4  Economy / Speculation / Re: Any observations as to patterns of price fluctuations in BTC prices? on: November 23, 2013, 01:32:17 AM
fiatleak.com offers a unique insight to daily patterns.  Look for China to be the main player when the sun shines there, and US to be the main player when the sun shines there.  All others are pretenders to the throne.  When the sun shines on China, price movement up is robust.  Otherwise, lackadaisical.  US early adopters may be cashing in their chips already.  But the Wall Street money is not far from the horizon.

6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When Will Bitcoin Reach $1000?? on: November 09, 2013, 02:07:44 AM
This is what I predicted at http://canonizer.com/topic.asp/154/6 on August 27, 3013.  Since then, I have formed the opinion that my formula was too conservative.  I now expect the value of a Bitcoin to reach $1,000 by June, 2013.

"By plotting a predictive exponential curve that maximally fits current Mt. Gox close data since the first recorded date of July 17, 2010, it is possible to glean a formula that roughly tracks the following equation:
Predicted value of Bitcoin=(0.208641165)*[(1.005309994)^(Number of days since July 17, 2010)]
According to this formula, the value of a Bitcoin on December 8, 2014 will be $1,003.92.
The use of this formula assumes that the rate of Bitcoin's exponential rise will not succumb to a slowdown due to currency market saturation until sometime after 2014."
7  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: September 25, 2013, 09:16:00 PM
Some events happened last week, that have forced us to make a decision to go out of business. A lot of issues compounded to press us to do this. The failure of the Klondike project was one. Chase, our bank, shut down our accounts. Also the delay in the shipment of the chips has resulted in a lot of customers asking for refund. We already owe a lot of money to PayPal, and with all the refund requests, it is impossible for us to continue our operation profitably. So we have decided to dissolve the company.

We are going to ask for a refund from Yifu. As soon as we get a refund from him, we will start refunding all the orders. We will be able to refund about 50% of every order with this amount. We are trying to get our money out of Chase, which will help us refund another ~5% of each order. We are trying to return as many components as we can, and as soon as we get more money back, we will send additional pro-rated payments to each order.

Once we get a refund from Yifu, we will be sending an email to everyone asking for a current Bitcoin address where to send the payments.

Is anyone proposing a common course of action for all the customers screwed by this "business" decision?
8  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What ASIC horse are you backing? on: June 09, 2013, 06:52:34 PM

I thought it would be interesting for everyone to post which company they are planning on/have ordered ASICs from and why.

Terrahash does not seem to be accepting preorders/orders yet, but you can get on their mailing list at their website.  KNCminer is accepting orders/preorders and apparently they've unwittingly set up some spurious off-exchange trading for the unregulated speculative derivatives "KNC preorder numbers" now recklessly being traded on bitcointalk.  That's a real joker (tearjerker?) for newbies because KNC preorder numbers are free for the taking on the real McCoy site (kncminer.com), all of which are promises (assign your level of credibility here) for September delivery.

It's a wild wild West out there.  You might want to google these terms:

Avalon
Terrahash
AsicMiner
Butterfly
BTCGarden.com
KNCMiner
Steamboat

Thoroughly research this stuff and you'll probably be in a much better position to place your bets on the upcoming ASIC revolution.  The wildcard, of course, is the exponentially growing difficulty factor for BTC.  Another monkey wrench is whether the new hardware effectively sorts through scrypt, SHA-256 or something else.

9  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTS] 350 Gh/s KNC miner Jupiter pre-order positions on: June 07, 2013, 06:29:37 PM
kncminer.com is still taking orders for Jupiter and Saturn on their site for the upcoming September batch.  Why anyone would want to pay good BTC for a ticket scalper is totally beyond me.

11  Economy / Digital goods / Re: WTS] 3 KNC Miner Pre- order " Golden Ticket " to sell on: June 06, 2013, 05:56:17 AM
People trying to sell things they took 0 risk in acquiring instantly make my ignore list

Do you really think reading and searching things about KNC to reakt best possible since weeks and preorder transfers do not much take time?
Why are there so many peoples have late order IDs wihout preorders and searching to buy a low preorder ID?
Because they did not make the things which i have done spending a lot of time !
And of course...i have made nothing.
And i am not the man taking money for preorders in this forum before KNC shows most possible evidence (openday) how other peoples!

Can't you find a way to help others without placing an order in bad faith (not intending to actually go through with the transaction with KNC)?

Do you enjoy paying extra money to ticket scalpers?  How about getting into a wheelchair and offering your services to help people cut ahead of the line at Disney World? Ethically speaking, selling KNC's queue positions is no different as far as I'm concerned.  You may be "helping" some people, but you're doing so at the expense of others.

Please reconsider what you're doing.  You're hurting your own reputation.  If you want to help people by researching a topic and then sharing what you've learned, people will appreciate that, but I personally do not think highly of people whose only intent when placing an order is to make a profit by selling a queue position.  If this is not your intent, feel free to accept my apology and ignore this post.  I'm sure in that case you would no longer accept any bids and you would just gift your advanced queue position to a stranger in this forum out of a sense of sheer generosity.  If your research into KNC is so valuable to others, then surely you can find a way to market your expertise without engaging in line cutting.  The fact that KNC is allowing you to do this on a limited basis doesn't impress me.  If I were in their position I wouldn't want to hassle with you either.  I believe you can do better than this.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WorldCoin Seen as a Threat? on: May 30, 2013, 10:12:17 PM
A pool ran dead on 300 blocks on worldcoin.. is that a first for any crypto?

God must be hating on WDC then, lol.

I don't hold any WDC but then again I don't support any system which is fundamentally flawed.

What exactly do you mean it ran dead on 300 blocks?

Not sure what you mean.  A few seconds ago I downloaded 90776 blocks of WDC transaction history.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An exchange dealing solely in crypto - financial regulation immune? on: May 28, 2013, 08:29:57 PM

Are they any in existence right now and do they get much business?

Cheers, Paul.

One of the exchanges I use is cryptsy.com, which apparently does not deal in fiat currency.  I would say they get a decent amount of business.

My understanding is that FinCEN is looking to regulate MSBs (money service businesses) that act as exchanges involving USD, which could be used to mask illegal money laundering.  It's hard to see how converting, say, MNC for NMC, means a whole lot of money laundering is going on.

Another quick and dirty compile on Ubuntu 12.04, this time for worldcoin-qt !

To be able to compiling worldcoin-qt you need to install Qt development libraries. (more details http://qt.nokia.com/downloads/ )
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install qt4-dev-tools libqt4-dev libqt4-core libqt4-gui

Then download and install worldcoin-qt dependencies:
Code:
sudo apt-get install build-essential
sudo apt-get install libssl-dev
sudo apt-get install libdb4.8-dev
sudo apt-get install libdb++-dev
sudo apt-get install libqrencode-dev
sudo apt-get install libboost1.48-all-dev

If you don't yet have git, get it
Code:
sudo apt-get install git

Download the source code:
Code:
git clone https://github.com/worldcoinproject/Worldcoin.git

Go to newly create directory:
Code:
cd Worldcoin

Verify that you have 'worldcoin-qt.pro' in your Worldcoin directory:
Code:
ls

Following files/directories should be listed:
Code:
contrib  COPYING  doc  INSTALL  README  README.md  share  src  worldcoin-qt.pro

Build without UPNP support:
Code:
qmake "USE_UPNP=-"

Do the magic:
Code:
make

and ready for test run ! Launch your wallet application.
Code:
./worldcoin-qt

In the case you see this useful, I don't mind if you throw me with a coin..

init.h           netbase.cpp           scrypt.h               worldcoind

Ok, almost done!

Create the worldcoin data directory:
Code:
mkdir ~/.worldcoin

Now make the conf file:
Code:
sudo nano ~/.worldcoin/worldcoin.conf

Put this stuff in there:
Code:
rpcuser=username
rpcpassword=password
rpcport=11082
port=11081
daemon=1
server=1
gen=0
listen=1
testnet=0
maxconnections=100

Ok. GO TIME!

In the same directory as the worldcoind file:
Code:
worldcoind -daemon

You should see:
Code:
worldcoin server start

Commands:
Code:
worldcoind getinfo
worldcoind stop
worldoind getaccountaddress ""

See https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Original_Bitcoin_client/API_calls_list for other commands.

Let me know if this works.

If it does. I graciously accept the following:

17  Other / Politics & Society / Is the Department of Homeland Security declaring war on bitcoin? on: May 16, 2013, 04:20:24 AM
The Department of Homeland Security obtained a Court order yesterday which allows them to seize the assets of a Dwolla account linked to Mt. Gox.  The affidavit submitted in support of the application for this Court order asserts that Mark Karpeles lied on his company's application for an account with Wells Fargo, and declared that he was not dealing in the exchange of money.  For a discussion of the impact of this event on the bitcoin community check out my blog post at http://swappermall.com.  If anyone hears of an official response by Mt. Gox (not the pitiful "I heard it on the internet" response) to this event or the CoinLab lawsuit, post a comment on my blog!
