With the difficulty rising nearly exponentially is anyone really making money with this miner?  Doing the calculations it seems literally impossible to be profitable.
Maybe your calculations do not include profit from selling used unit before it becomes obsolete Wink

One of my returned R4's drop a board this afternoon, a quick restarted got it going again. It had been mining for just a touch over 7 days since it was returned. This makes me a little nervous.
That's really bad. My two R4 batch 2 (both repaired) are working without problem almost month now. Hashing constantly over 16TH together.
4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Ebit e9 miner with 6.8Th/s from Ebang company a new rival for existing producers on: January 18, 2017, 09:29:36 PM
Edit: Using the unreliable Kill-o-Watt meter im seeing an efficiency of about .15 or so. Going to amp clamp it later and see if I can get slightly more accurate readings.
How much in Watt it takes?

As per title - looking to buy several units with delivery to UK.
Please PM me your offer. Thx.

Look at my R4... Does the status look ok regarding temperature or is one of the boards not reporting temp? Am I reading it correctly? Where it says '-' should there be temperature? it's hashing at full 8.7 TH/s speed.

You have one ASIC missing or faulty as well (can't see all oooo / xxxx / ---- )

Well, this seems to be rather common now.  My one R4 B2 that's been running for 4 weeks had one board stop working yesterday.  After reading here that it's been happening to others and that some have gotten it working again by updating the firmware, I tried that also.  Firmware update seemed to go fine, but only 1 board working still and after the firmware update the other board seems to be working but it's showing a large number of total HW errors even though the working board errors are almost none.  Now what?
My first R4 B2 lost one hasboard after just 2 days on-line, second gone together with yours - yesterday.... Looking on the bright side - I holded shipping back to avoid X-Mass messy couriers so now will save by shipping both at once.
2 Dec 2016 firmware makes status page empty when both hasboards are connected (both B2 units), works half speed with one good board.
7  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] [EU-UK] New Antminer R4 with PSU on: December 28, 2016, 02:17:49 PM
For sale Antminer R4 batch 2 with server power supply.
Bought new from Bitmain - over 2 months warranty left.

Exceptional unit constantly hashing above nominal 8 TH/s using under 820W !!

Selling together with HP 94% Platinum Power Supply - perfectly matched pair achieving best efficiency without the noise!

Only reason for sale is my elec. goes up next year and I can't change tariff or host it for the moment.

Asking total price is equivalent of £1650 which includes shipping within UK. Europe shipping depends on location.
Duties are paid - no customs or VAT will affect buyer within EU. Escrow welcomed.

Silly offers will be ignored and irrelevant comments removed.

What are you doing about a fix? Sending back to Hong Kong? Denver? Entire unit or only board? Bitmainwarranty is not answering the phone or replying to emails
They replied to me asking to send whole unit to HK. I submited a ticket here: http://support.bitmain.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: December 18, 2016, 05:26:45 PM
One of my R4's that stopped hashing on one board has stopped hashing completely after trying to restore the original firmware. The hardware version listed under system overview says "   Socket connect failed: Connection refused".

I have tried powering off several times, reboots, updating firmware, etc. No more hashing. There has to be an easy fix to this without sending to Hong Kong or letting sit in Denver for weeks on end. Any thoughts?

EDIT:  unplugged the original board that did not hash and fired back up, the one remaining board is hashing again at 4th/s!
Exactly same fault here - I think we discovered common issue.
10  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: December 15, 2016, 03:22:56 PM
Agree. Unless electricity is free ROI difficult
Disagree - Home miner is NOT an investment to be measured for ROI.
You buy it (cheap) from maker., you run it at home or office where you pay less for elec. than you make BTC.
And (most important) you sell it high before it's totally obsolete.
Do it right and get right profit - timing is an essence from start (having in mind 45min purchase window Wink
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: December 14, 2016, 11:31:33 PM
I have a Batch 2 R4 that stopped hashing on one board, Miner status page still shows circles and not x, but very high HW on the board not hashing. Any ideas?

Same here. Below Bitmain advice on the issue:
Quote
Please update the firmware: https://shop.bitmain.com/support.htm?pid=007201612090211421457I07aFFE0609
For details on how to upgrade the firmware please see the User manual: https://shop.bitmain.com/support.htm?pid=007201608300453591291gt4d83P0660

If that does not solve the issue then please first test the controller. You can switch the controller cables between hash boards. If the issue follows the cable then the controller is faulty and you can ship the controller to us for repair.

If that does not solve the issue then please test the hash boards one by one.

To test each hash board separately: keep the PSU connectors and controller cable on one of the hash boards connected and disconnect the cables from the other two hash boards. With the miner running you can see the status of the connected hash board.

Here is more detail: http://support.bitmain.com/hc/en-us/articles/226142788-Testing-hash-board-one-by-one

On the miner status screen defective chips are displayed as "xxx", "---" or " ASIC≠45(s7) or 63(s9)"

Once you know which part is defective please create a Repair ticket and ship the part back to us according to these instructions: https://cnshop.bitmain.com/workOrderGuide.htm

Mine also do not light up tiny red LED at the end of faulty board (opposite connectors).

Sorry I am too lazy to check my R4B2. Mine just stopped hashing this morning where GH/s(RT) read 0 but everything else looked correct. Every share was rejected. Tried switching pools via MRR, no improvements. Tried flashing 1202 fw, it errored out and i freaked out too. but it rebooted itself and now everything's back up right.

I don't know what to say about these rigs. I hope they are of decent quality.
Lucky you - mine shows same (GH/s(RT) read 0) but several flashing went ok with no change.
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: December 13, 2016, 03:26:05 PM
The r4 seriously in need of overclock
No option in WebGUI for clock.
Batch 2 goes around 577MHz and auto adjust.
13  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: December 13, 2016, 03:24:23 PM
So some questions to ask:
1) what was the psu you used?
2) how was the room it was in?  by that was it really hot or really cold?  above 90 f or below 35 f ?
1- DPS-1200FB-1 A
2- Chilly attic about 19c
It surely died when powered on - not from heat.

They want whole unit? seems a bit much.. won't let you just send the one board?
Quote from: Bitmain
Yes, you do need to send the whole machine. The boards work together and they cannot repair one board without the other.
14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: December 13, 2016, 01:48:55 PM
After 2 days of mining I turned both R4 off to just to put power usage meter in line.
When powered back one hash board died... need to send whole R4 unit back for repair  Sad

Two R4 arrived yesterday in UK.
My impressions:
1- This thing is huge! I mean long and wide comparing to any S
2- It is way quieter than S3! You can potentially have it in the bedroom. My ones installed today in attic - can't hear a thing anywhere in the house
3- Hooked this morning to KANO.IS of course because:
- best overall historical luck
- best support from kano himself here on forum (almost 24/7)
- easy simple straight forward setup and web stats
- Status mobile App with notification for block find, miners speed
- and... o yeah first payment just came after little over 4hrs of mining!

17  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: December 09, 2016, 11:34:10 AM
They not accepting any orders for R4 ATM. and no wire for current limited batch of S9.
Who knows what will be at next sale of any miner.

There are still S7-LN and S5 units available - from NewEgg.

We are talking about Bitmain shop acceptable payment.

19  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Antminer S9 12.93 TH/s for sale on: December 08, 2016, 11:23:31 PM
You don't need to add VAT if its within the EU as you are not a business buying them in and selling them to the public.

How about a picture of your S9 with a piece of paper with your forum name and date written on showing you actually have what you are selling. Maybe you'll get some interest then Wink
I know - that's why I see this odd.

How about buying brand new one directly from Bitmain: Antminer S9-13.5TH/s
...at least you know why you would pay VAT Wink
20  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Antminer S9 12.93 TH/s for sale on: December 08, 2016, 08:57:58 PM
Located in EU.
Price EUR 1.650 each

Need to add VAT if sold inside EU

Even without this odd VAT charge it's too much.
