21  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WARNING] Sol Noctis Bull Coin Keys Compromised / Scam on: June 25, 2023, 04:19:20 PM
So if I understood correctly, at the time it was considered a scam because people couldn't redeem?

Or are the keys at risk of being compromised (even if they haven't as of yet)?
22  Economy / Collectibles / Re: These are the physical crypto brands that PCGS currently grades on: June 25, 2023, 04:18:08 PM
Can confirm that Bitcoin Suisse and Polymerbit notes are graded by PCGS.

Has anyone tried grading other banknote makers?
23  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] Free Satoshi Skull decal! Greenpeace hit piece.. lol on: June 24, 2023, 08:15:31 PM
Too bad it's sitting in a mail box halfway around the world. I hope to go back and pick it up sometime Smiley
24  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Is it possible to read a private key under a hologram using an X-ray? on: June 24, 2023, 07:51:37 PM

However and this is a big important however there have been some cheap ass cut rate refilled toner cartridges out there that have a lot and I need a lot of metal in the toner.

There were discussions about this on tech support forums 20+ ago since these toners utterly destroy parts of the printer as the toner dust goes everywhere.

So is it possible, yes in theory, but not reality.

Someone would need to have access to your non metallic collectable, that had a hologram that had almost no metallic content covering the private key, and the person who printed the private key would have had to use the cheapest aftermarket toner they could find. And then they would need to take said collectable and put it on a flat surface and hit it straight on with an x-ray. So....not worth even thinking about.

-Dave

Fortunately most modern aftermarket toners sold today do not have this issue.

There are companies that can test the toner to find the particle size, chemical makeup, and foreign particulate (such as metal).

It's possible to buy security toners that would emit such signatures, such as MICR toner.

But no would make that mistake, since those toners cost about 5x a normal aftermarket cartridge.

25  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Is it possible to read a private key under a hologram using an X-ray? on: June 22, 2023, 09:20:32 PM
I think it depends on the specific type of printing involved. For example, good X-ray scanners used in airports can identify money within bags by detecting even minuscule traces of metal present in the ink used on banknotes. Metal has a higher density than paper.

This is correct, furthermore.... each security thread has a specific signature.

If you ever wondered how a cop knows which cars to pull over for civil asset forfeiture... well there you go.

Almost all banknotes contain both metal fibres within the substrate, and metallic pigments within the intaglio ink (the part of the design that feels raised to the touch).

This is rather similar to MICR toner found on cheques.

These include but are not limited to: Magnetic ink (containing ferromagnetic components), IR-metameric Inks (can be seen under certain IR light).

Our tests have also shown that no, X-rays will not be able to help with the deciphering of a private key under a hologram or scratch off.

Metal will reflect xrays. It shows up as a black square or circle.
27  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] Polymerbit Notes - 2 Lots on: June 22, 2023, 10:34:22 AM
Thought this information may be useful for you:

Lot 1: This was in fact Polymerbits' first bitcoin project. Even before Polymerbit Ltd was incorporated in the UK. The first images of this note (with a black border) were posted on reddit in early January 2016.

Work on this project started in 2015, after the silver bug concept series (notes backed by silver, never printed).

This was then subsequently found by minerjones, who introduced me to Bitcointalk. The community wanted to see these printed, so we worked with applied currency concepts from Canada.

It took over a year to get them made, where they were finally released in Jan 2017. In 2018, they were accepted by the British Museum. Serials #4 and #746 are now preserved.

https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/search?keyword=polymerbit

Lot 2: This was a major jump in tech for us. We managed to get the attention of STC (https://stc.cz) who developed the paper and worked on the offset designs we use as a background layer.

The embedded hologram is theirs.

There was no hologram included with this run, as it was essentially a test print. There were over 80 notes scrapped due to early issues with alignment, so two serials exist. A & B.
28  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Stacks Bowers June Showcase Auction for Physicals is Tomorrow! Polymerbit Debut! on: June 15, 2023, 08:39:39 AM
Not quite sure whos bidding on these coins but one thing is clear. They have no clue what their bidding on. The Yarr coin sells for $80 but the united crypto states coin sells for $556. This coin is still available  at top world coins for $100, loaded with 28 cents. Dont get me wrong im excited about the new buyers and interest in our hobby. Just wish they would come here first and get educated. There were a lot less coins in this auction then the last so hooefully supply is finding its way into permanent collections

The final sale price of $720 was unexpected. This was not our listing, and we did not profit from this sale.

While I agree that research and knowledge are important; there's a counterargument to be made:

Collectibles in this forum are undervalued.

It boils down to supply and demand, increasing demand (via a new market of wealthy buyers) will inevitably affect the equilibrium price.

Auctions tend to set the price of art and collectibles.
29  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] Krogothmanhattan x Polymerbit: Customer DIY key generation with Trezor on: June 04, 2023, 06:48:18 PM
I should point out that we don't plan to abandon our own key making method. It's simply that this could be worth testing.

In practice, we would create an initial, single test note design; where the user could opt in for this option.

Those who showed interest, are welcome to join us in testing feasibility.

Customer DIY key generation with Trezor

During brunch in NYC, Krog and I were discussing issues faced by the collectible community.  The fact that a buyer has to inherently trust the keymaker to remain honest is a flaw. Polymerbit attempted to test how the market reacts to an alternative by releasing those DIY triangle notes in A4 format. Our findings were clear; only one buyer actually reported adding keys on the note. The fact that most people do not have an air gapped printer, meant that few were willing to go ahead with DIY keys. This stopped the DIY project dead in its tracks, forcing us to scrap the rest of the series. Korg suggested to try something new that may be useful to various coin makers. All coin makers are welcome to test this as well. In theory, this should allow Trezor holders to easily request custom keys for works issued by Polymerbit and others.

A unique test print was made using this process, with the note being shipped to Korg. These notes would not be resold, but would be useful as gifts or for a personal collection.

-------

WARNING: Run a malware and antivirus program prior to starting.

Reset a Trezor hardware wallet.
Write down the 12- or 24-word seed clearly on a piece of paper in the right order
Create a long passphrase, at least 16 characters long using letters, numbers and symbols. The longer the better.

Copy the public address given for the passphrase hidden wallet. Copy the QR code as well by using a screenshot if need be.

To verify correct transcription, you can confirm the backup via the Trezor “CHECK BACKUP” option or reset the Trezor, and input the seed and then the passphrase. If the correct seed and passphrase are input, then the same public address you have copied will be shown again. If not then you made a mistake and need to try again to confirm that what you wrote down is correct. There can be no errors in this procedure. Once they match, then send the public key to Polymerbit.

Sending the SEED and the PUBLIC KEYS to POLYMERBIT

A different device should be used to send the seed to Polymerbit. This is so in the event the computer where the Trezor passphrase is being created is infected or has a keylogger, the only item the hacker will get is the passphrase, which will be useless without the seed.

For additional security, the seed could also be mailed physically.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

So, as a precaution the seed should be uploaded to Polymerbit’s website via a different device. The passphrase and the seed should never be seen on the same computer at all to ensure there is no vulnerability.

In the event the seed is compromised, it will be useless without the passphrase and the same if the passphrase is compromised, it is useless without the seed.

The passphrase should be made of alphanumeric/symbols and be at least 16 characters long. Customer should be made aware to never share it and to place in secure spot. As the only way to be able to redeem the notes is with that passphrase and without it, then the Bitcoin will be lost forever.

31  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Stacks Bowers at Bitcoin Conference on: May 24, 2023, 11:58:28 PM
They are definitely taking our collectibles seriously.

The booth (branding, communication etc) was excellent. Making their involvement quite promising for anyone who may wish to sell.

The competence is clearly there. And for what they aren't familiar with, they reach out to this group to learn more.

It was a pleasure to have dinner with them.
32  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] [CAUTION] Polymerbit 10 year Anniversary (2019) notes (Keys by Yogg). on: April 08, 2023, 08:36:50 PM
unrelated - but any new polymerbit releases in the works? really like the ones I got

Yes there are, we have been working on our clear window tech.

I'm also excited for Bitcoin 2023 (Miami) and have been quite busy preparing notes for this.
33  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] [CAUTION] Polymerbit 10 year Anniversary (2019) notes (Keys by Yogg). on: April 08, 2023, 08:35:43 PM
Yogg is really the gift that keeps on giving (sweeping)

The notes are still intact at this time. We however have no way of guaranteeing they will remain loaded. This is why we are strongly advising to redeem.

34  Economy / Collectibles / Re: POLL- What to do with auction proceeds for ScamKey victims on: April 08, 2023, 08:28:02 PM
France does not work like the US where you can claim hefty damages.

Our motivation is focused on getting the police involved.
35  Economy / Collectibles / Re: POLL- What to do with auction proceeds for ScamKey victims on: April 07, 2023, 01:21:41 PM
We should set up a private group in discord, with only invited members of all those affected.

We've been looking into exactly which laws Yogg has broken. There are a few which can be pretty hefty.

Now it's about getting the police involved.
36  Economy / Collectibles / Re: yogg sweepping again - Playtoshi edition on: April 07, 2023, 01:12:45 PM
Creators should always be scrutinised. But there is no denying that there was a drop in sales.

This is why pursuing legal action against yogg is so important. Showing everyone here and elsewhere with collectibles that this is not accepted.

There's simply too many "it won't do anything good, leave him be he's broke and pathetic" - which might just open up the door to other scammers-to-be who take this as a sign that they'll face no punishment if they do the very same thing. It's worrying and I can definitely understand why potential customers are hesitant moving forward.

We're not going to drop this. But announcing strategy on a public forum we know he is watching... only allows him to be one step ahead.

Strategy should be discussed in private groups.
37  Economy / Collectibles / Re: yogg sweepping again - Playtoshi edition on: April 07, 2023, 12:50:10 PM

Being a creator and seller of collectibles, I have seen the impact it has had on the community with regard to creators, since mid-January and for almost 2 months people who buy my collectibles have had behaviors that I did not have never seen before here, I literally was overwhelmed with messages, whether people worried about the situation, people who told me they were stopping buying collectibles, and so on.(it stressed and pissed me off so much, even my mom asked me if I was ok when already 2 months had passed since the yogg scam.)

I can definitely back this statement up. He's caused our customers to second guess the security of our keys as well.

Creators should always be scrutinised. But there is no denying that there was a drop in sales.

38  Economy / Collectibles / Re: yogg sweepping again - Playtoshi edition on: April 04, 2023, 07:53:35 AM

This yogg guy is the lowest of the low and makes this community an absolute joke.

Does anyone even know why this Yogg guy was so trusted to begin with? Nobody even seems to know much about him.

He was trusted because he was an early bitcoin talk member. Many people (including myself) have met him personally.

First time was coinfest 2017.

He had a great idea, and intentions seemed solid. He made the keys for the 10 year anniversary notes because he was trusted more than us at the time.

Personally, I'm more upset at the damage he did to the community than the funds I lost.

39  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] [CAUTION] Polymerbit 10 year Anniversary (2019) notes (Keys by Yogg). on: April 03, 2023, 01:51:27 PM
If you haven't done so already. Peel now!
40  Economy / Collectibles / Re: yogg sweepping again - Playtoshi edition on: April 03, 2023, 01:43:01 PM
If you were personally affected by this I think it's about time you try and get in contact with someone on the ground over there to take legal action.

Personal damage, including loans have exceeded $10k.

I don't want to even think how bad others have it.
