381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Invest in ETH or ETC? on: July 27, 2017, 06:33:05 AM
In my personal opinion, Ethereum is the best at now. And I hope Ehtereum will cross BTC one day.
I agreed. ETH has great potential and future.
That's why right now I already have ETH and bitcoins in my wallet and I am thinking of holding it for a longer years.
IF bitcoin will fail at least I know ETH has a good chance to take over and I still do not lose in overall as I am pretty sure the price will rise.
A very good strategy, holding both coins with better potential that's really a very good strategy, In that way then you do not have to worry to lose.
382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt coins worth buying on: July 27, 2017, 06:28:39 AM
I've been reading through this forums for the past few weeks and all I see is "this coin is dead" or "everything is a shit coin". Is there any alt coin with potential to invest in or is it only bitcoin? I don't mean like a few here and there, I mean over 100 coins.
There is no shit coins or dead coins. All of the coins are important and have a value. Many altcoins have really potential and good for investment. I prefer to you to research more altcoin and you can find out what coin is the best for investment.
Not all coins are legitimate coins, there are really shit coins who were just created to serve the interest of the developers
and after they get enough money they will be gone, so be careful in investing and make sure you do due diligence.
Really a lot of fraud happens, I also experienced it so be careful when investing, Look at the investment project or site, find the truth, If approximately convincing then invest.
383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So much bad news. When will it end ? on: July 27, 2017, 06:07:45 AM
This is just a bad week for all, better looking for a good one than hearing bad news. Better stock up crypto! Many merchants want to buy it.

I agree with you Better find a coin the most popular, maybe after SEGWIT will be a lot of good news.
384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to do with the people who don't like Bitcoin? on: July 27, 2017, 04:39:10 AM
Nothing, we can't push someone to like things they do not like. but I still don't met people who do not like/hated bitcoin.
it's true we can not forcing someone but There is no harm we invite people who do not like bitcoin to find bitcoin, I'm sure that way they'll love it.
385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can bitcoin wallet be hacked by hackers? on: July 27, 2017, 04:32:00 AM
yes they can, just keep in personal wallet, and dont forget have a great password. and choose what the best wallet that have great more guard than other.
Yes I am sure that way it can minimize hackers to hack our wallets but did not rule out hackers can also break the protection of the wallet because something made by man that no one is perfect. certainly have gap though it is very small.
386  Economy / Speculation / Re: Any Predictions for Bitcoin 1 August on: July 27, 2017, 03:54:16 AM
Bitcoin prices are somewhat difficult to guess and predicted, so don't know in 1 August will be increased or even down. But in my opinion bitcoin prices will jump high again and bitcoin will be more popular and used by many people to meet their needs. and i guess bitcoin price will heading $3000 after 1 August.
yes hopefully bitcoin price goes up $3000, many people say the bitcoin price will go  down before segwit but for now price the bitcoin are rising. No one person knows about the price of bitcoin to come.
387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Hacked or Lost Bitcoin QT wallet? Corrupt DB? Shows zero transactions on: September 24, 2016, 10:14:41 PM
achow101, I knew this had to be user error. I tried to send a zero fee transaction over the summer, never went through, so I deleted my local wallet. When I replaced it, I put it appdata/roaming/bitcoin and not with the datadir which I have on my storage drive. Then I forgot about it.

You could lock/delete this or maybe better if I edit the title so someone else can find it if they have the same issue.
388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Hacked or Lost Bitcoin QT wallet? Corrupt DB? Shows zero transactions *SOLVED* on: September 24, 2016, 08:17:07 PM
*EDIT I was putting my replacement wallet in appdata/roaming/bitcoin, not in the datadir folder! USER ERROR*

Ive had a bitcoin QT wallet since April 2013, right now I cant access any coins because the wallet shows zero transactions ever, everything is zeroes. I had it backed up in several places including google drive, thumb drives, etc.

Ive tried replacing the wallet.dat file with my backup, and run -rescan and -reindex, Ive updated to .13, and still cant see my coins or any transactions. My last transaction was in July.

At this point Im getting concerned. It seems like my wallet is lost, because I cant see any transactions. But the original wallet.dat file in google drive still says modified April 2013, I can see the history of the file and it hasnt changed. If I was hacked, wouldnt there just be no wallet.dat file at all, a recently modified one, or I could see my wallet but the coins would be emptied?

Ive tried two different (win7) PCs at home with no luck, and at this point Im concerned. I feel like Im missing something, any suggestions?
389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bitcoin should automatically reindex if it cannot find a block source on: December 28, 2015, 06:23:11 AM
My level of technical expertise is low, but at least Im able to identify/solve the problem here, which Im sure is a common problem from googling

"connected to bitcoin network, no block source available" yet I have 50+gb of blockchain in my appdata/roaming/bitcoin folder and Im connected to 9 nodes.

Im not sure how/why this happens, bitcoin qt is properly configured to see the right folders, maybe the blocks became corrupted.

Whatever the reason, the process to reindex should be automatic in this case, no? If Im connected to the network and theres no viable block source, at least prompt me to reindex.
390  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: December 16, 2014, 11:29:21 PM
Only upside to the whole debacle for me is I paid in BTC when it was near the high. It was my way of taking some profits. lol

Obviously, never received anything and my last email asking about delivery was not replied to. I should've known better, I did know better, but... lizard brain took over.

This was the same week I decided not to sell any LTC when it was in the high 30s, and order from Alpha Tech too. Its been a rough year to say the least.  Undecided

Hubris ladies and gentlemen. Pure hubris. Take a look in the mirror people, thats who you should direct your anger towards.
391  Other / Off-topic / Re: Your favorite video games of all time. on: October 08, 2014, 11:28:28 PM
Burnout 3.

Sadly, the later games changed the gameplay a lot, and it was more about exploration and coop challenges than actual lap racing, and the graphics became less stylized and more real.

Even worse, EA shutdown the online servers. Still the best pure arcade racer ever.

392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alpha Technology Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner Order Batch 1 Now! on: October 07, 2014, 10:52:46 PM
so it was a successful day for me. I payed my 30% deposit through paypal and my additional 70% via wire transfer.

I contacted paypal yesterday who opened a dispute and contacted alpha about it, but the dispute was immediately closed due to the 45 day rule. I called back this morning and pushed the issue until I got transfered to a supervisor. She said she had to do some research on it, so I fully explained the situatoin and how other people had already reported alpha to paypal, etc etc. Within an hour the 30% was back in my paypal account.

Then I contacted my bank on a hope and prayer regarding the wire transfer. Turns out they do have some options on wire transfers (at least USBank does). They are contacting alpha's bank and requesting the funds on grounds of fraud, and I have filed a report with USbank's fraud department as well. I will know more by Friday hopefully- I'll keep you guys posted.

Moral of the story- if paypal gives you the run around, call again, and again, and again. Be very nice to the people and I recommend immediately asking to speak with a supervisor or protection services. It also obviously helps if you run a decent amount of money through paypal every year- I threatened to switch companies and payment processors for a bunch of my stuff which i think helped to put pressure on paypal to rectify the situation rather than just passing the buck.

I'll update when I hear more on the wire transfer.

Was on phone with paypal for 1 hour. 3 supervisors. No dice :-(
393  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Ive Never Met a Poor or Non-White Libertarian on: October 04, 2014, 11:01:13 PM
Gee thanks, nice to know someone out there in the world views someone's ideology purely based on whether they're white, I truly enjoy it when someone talks about themselves so benignly and then proceeds to spew an incredibly racist and hypocritical rant just because they think it's okay to say that kind of shit to white people, you know, because they deserve it. I also find it even more amusing when these people rant about how selfish people like Libertarians and Anarchists are and completely ignore the fact that they aren't the ones going around and forcing people to pay taxes through either threat of imprisonment or gunpoint, because that's oh so much better for a society to be oppressed through fear rather than letting them be generous to society through choice.

As it stands, Anarcho-Communists, Anarcho-Syndicalists and even Marxists have more fucking empathy from me than people like the OP, when government loyalists acknowledge the fact that you go to jail if you don't pay your taxes then we'll talk.

A) Im white

B) I never said that there are no poor or non-white libertarians, I just said Ive never met one

C) I never said libertarians are selfish, I said human beings are selfish

It seems I touched a nerve here. I never asked for your empathy, I just wanted to have conversation about my evolving political beliefs.

I am a libertarian, but I have a high degree of compassion for mankind and the plight of the average person. Furthermore, when civil society breaks down as a result of the endgame of free markets, nobody wins - even with the people who have all the money and property. They will essentially be living in a prison. How could anyone argue for this result?

My issue is, how do we retain total economic freedom without an endgame which results in our society breaking down, the start of which we are currently seeing.

This is a sincere question, its been bothering me for weeks.
394  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / STOP BUYING MINING HARDWARE on: October 02, 2014, 10:43:08 PM
Just stop it. People, this is madness. There nothing worth buying, and by buying a dream you allow these companies to give BTC a bad name.

If you arent paying the foundry to fabricate the wafers and putting chips on boards yourself, THERE IS NO PROFIT IN BITCOIN MINING.

Its just smoke and mirrors, please shut off that greedy lizard brain for one moment and think about how many companies sell items that are worth more than their purchase price outside of the bitcoin world just by plugging them into the wall/internet and hitting a button.

Thats right, zero. Its a great con, people want to believe in easy money, and theres a sucker born every minute.

BUMP this if you have lost BTC/fiat trying to mine, or have a preorder which wont ever ROI if you ever even receive it.

395  Other / Politics & Society / Ive Never Met a Poor or Non-White Libertarian on: October 02, 2014, 06:23:03 PM
And this has caused me to rethink my views. Im such a believer in personal freedom, but I dont really see how the endgame for freetrade can be anything other than disaster.

There is a selfishness to Libertarianism which is unappealing to me. It isnt explicit, and it isnt necessary by default, but human nature is by default selfish.

When you extrapolate this selfishness out a thousandfold into the future, the disparity between the haves and have nots becomes cataclysmic to civil society.

The only way I can see a libertarian capitalist utopia actually working is when people at the very very top, the .001%, act in a manner which benefits society at large.

But the problem is, for every Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, there are 10 Dick Cheneys and Mitt Romneys.

Sadly, the 1% are not a benevolent group: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/01/27/the-rich-are-as-selfish-as-you-think.html

The successful must be benevolent, or capitalism has a dark, dark endgame.
397  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction cost in kWh on: October 02, 2014, 06:09:35 PM

We are probably over secure at this point in time but the infrastructure is in place for the network to grow 10x in transaction size which existing mining infrastructure.

The problem is, we can rapidly pass 10x and goto 100x or 1000x before the network is ready
398  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do bank office buildings use more energy than an ASIC miner? on: October 02, 2014, 06:07:53 PM
Xposted from similar topic, mods please delete/merge threads/posts as necessary

Every new generation of ASIC is vastly more power efficient. Can the same be said for every bank branch or finance employee?

Bitcoin enables efficiency gains orders of magnitude above printing, distributing, and then finally destroying billions of notes of paper currency.

This is just STEP 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaBapDvfwFw

During Fiscal Year (FY) 2013, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing delivered approximately 26 million notes a day with a face value of approximately $1.3 billion.

During Fiscal Year (FY) 2013, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing delivered approximately 6.6 billion notes at an average cost of 10 cents per note.

Over 90 percent of the notes that the BEP delivers each year are used to replace notes already in, or taken out of circulation.

Between the Fort Worth, Texas and the Washington, DC facilities, approximately 9.6 tons of ink per day were used during FY 2013.

In short, ASIC's are 99.9% efficient at converting electricity to heat.

Heat is the least useful form of energy, though. The best solution is to produce less by consuming less electricity in the first place.
