1  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What are the problemes of crypto currency exchanges? on: July 28, 2019, 10:22:18 AM
Hi, I want to share my ideas about crypto currency exchanges. I think that there are some problems. And I am wondering people are agree with me or disagree?

Today's available exchanges have really big influence over crypto currency investors:

  • They can appropriate the invests of investors.
  • If they are attacked and lost the invests to hackers, there are not any legal regulation so you can not ask about your invests to anyone.
  • They can stole the invests and can say that hackers has stoled the invests and anybody can not say not 'it was you'. Like Mt, Gox.

Please stop exemplify about Binance. It was their initiative and good for them. But not every exchange like them.

So how can you trade securely? Do you feel comfortable?

How do you see the future of decentralized and centralized exchanges?

snip-
The best practice is to always keep your funds out of exchanges. Do not leave any money there. Always move it to your wallet, no matter how much you are paying in withdrawal fees.
The safest way is this advice because once you are not holding your private key in storing your fund it means that is not yours. Just like in leaving your fund the wallet of some exchanges platform whether that is a centralized or decentralized exchange as long as they are holding your fund and they are a third party who holds your fund.

The problem with exchanges is the lack of strict regulations, and usually you are sending your money to other countries with different laws which you probably do not understand and/or have difficult to reclaim your rights. Especially cryptoxcrypto exchanges, which are usually physically located in remote locations with convenient laws (for them).
That's right and the crypto market space are now struggling on these kinds of organizations had.

Hi guys, I am one of the GM's of Nova Exchange.
Nova Exchange is owned by Goobit AB, which also runs BT.CX since 2012. We are early adopters of Bitcoin and Blockchain as a technology.

That was for the marketing part of our exchange...

I would like however to throw my insights, from what I am hearing, and observing, as an individual that works in an exchange...

By all means, I am not much more an expert than you are, so what I am about to write below, does not certainly apply to everyone, as in overall, I believe that the industry is much more secure and healthy today than from what it was 1 or 2 years ago.

First of all, let me say that this thread is a very nice initiative, and I hope that it has more reads, comments and insights from also other leaders in the space, not from a marketing perspective (I am the best and bla bla), but from an honest point of view, in order to bring the mainstream adoption that we are all looking for, and bring that adoption with a certain level of awareness and responsibility...

From my perspective, the reason that yet the industry is involved with many scammers and hacks, is due to a couple of things, however, the main reason, I believe, has to do with....

  • "personal development" / owners of the exchange
  • the values of the organization behind it
  • and the developers of the exchange.

I have noticed, that scammers have no ethical values, their development is made in a quick way (1-5 months) only for the "eyes" of the public (focusing on the interface of it so that traders like it).... Then they spend a couple of Bitcoins on marketing, they hire fake volume bots, and once there is a certain amount of traders/real volume gathered, they disappear with the funds. All this must happen within a short period of time in order for authorities to not react and catch them, so where there is too much of a buzz, be sure to question well!.

I personally, in many Bitcoin meetups, heard crypto exchange owners from 2015-17, "pleasing" themselves that they coded alone a crypto exchange within 3-5 months.
But can u trust your money to a code that has been developed for such amount of time? Especially when there was NO BACKGROUND or experience at all (how many exchanges these guys have previously coded in order to "master" the prototype??).

Almost no-one had coded an exchange before Bitcoin era, and the ones that did, worked for banks, nasdaq, NYSE, LSE etc...

Exchanges are complex by nature, and they require a huge amount of time and a large team behind them (serious, smart and GOOD developers, good management, even greater lawyers, and lastly, marketing), in order to be competent and to at least stand up on their feet.

I would personally, before trusting my money on an exchange, check the team behind it.
Who are the owners that are managing my hard-earned funds?
Then I would contact the exchange by sending an email to their support, asking some basic questions, see how the reply looks like, get a basic feeling of it.

Then GOOGLE the exchange, and try to find as much data as possible (is the exchange organic, does it have real users?)

Lastly, it is illegal for someone to promise you profit because in the money game there is no guarantee. So if someone promises that you will win money by giving him money... stay away!

Where I would personally trade?

Only at exchanges that require KYC (and I am being serious here, despite I value the anonymity that crypto is all about, and if someone wants to "illegally" trade funds, then he should not blame the exchange the illegally exit scammed him)!
The reason for that, is because KYC brings a level of security and protection, as the exchange knows who traded what, there is no wash trading behind it, and hackers stay away from such exchanges...

Exchanges that require KYC, are trying to become fully regulated and clean (if not already). Also, if an exchange has at least a KYC requirement above a certain level, it means that it spent money for verification, something that an exit scammer would most probably never do, as it will involve him with much paperwork and time, that a scammer would by nature want to avoid.

I would also suggest, to NEVER keep all your funds in exchanges, but only the funds that someone will be trading with, and that should only be a small portion of what someone is holding. This because:

YOUR KEYS = YOUR MONEY! NOT YOUR KEYS = NOT YOUR MONEY!

2  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Nova Exchange - Standard Cryptocurrency Exchange on: July 16, 2019, 12:19:53 PM
Can you remove the nova personal phone and identity verification ? It is ridiculous to verify these.

Best to get used to KYC/AML policies if you want to use a legitimate exchange. Nearly all legit exchanges now, or will soon, require verification.

Nova has them, they just don't work properly.  Roll Eyes

Hmm, our verification works as it's supposed to... We had on occasion some stuck sessions that required us to manually unstuck them (during 2019, 33 users only, 2018 we can not really count as then we were not really operating).
The KYC (we are talking about KYC and not the AML), is split in 2 things:

a: ID verification
b: Address verification

The process (at least ours) in overall looks something like this:

PART A ID VERIFICATION
1: A User "X" is verifying himself by starting the verification session through our platform.
2: User is either
2a. verified -> All good he verified his ID automatically (this takes from 5min to 2 hours)->  jumps to step 5.

2b. not passed verification -> he is declined and failed the verification.
2b1. Our compliance officer will check WHY this user was not accepted via the verification system, and will
2b2. *reset the user's session so the user can try again* or he can manually accept him if everything looks alright. If the user is not accepted, then ->
2b3 Customer support will contact the user and explain to him what is required to pass the session or will give him some tips that will help him.

4. User will have to try again step 2 until he is approved.

PART B ADDRESS VERIFICATION
5. If the user was approved and has verified his ID, he will then need to fill in the address verification (upload a utility bill).
5a.verified -> All good he verified his address automatically (this takes from 5min to 2 hours) ->  jumps to step 6.

5b. not passed address verification -> he is declined and failed the verification.
5b1. Our compliance officer will check WHY this user was not accepted via the verification system, and will
5b2. *reset the user's session so the user can try again* or he can manually accept him if everything looks alright. If the user is not accepted, then ->
5b3 Customer support will contact the user and explain to him what is required to pass the session or will give him some tips that will help him.

6. User is able to withdraw, trade and deposit.

Hope this clarified the issues, but if you have further questions, do not hesitate to ask us, however keep in mind that we will not and can not disclose personal data online, so any questions that you have for your personal account (what is the status of the verification for example), you must send an email to our support team.

What about  you delisted your own coin Novapoint that cause lost money of all loyal clients?

There seems to be some kind of confusion here regarding NPOINT.

First off, there are many coins on Nova Exchange that have "Nova" in their name. These are not affiliated with Nova Exchange.

The coin called "NPOINT" was, during 2016 and 2017, given out freely as a kind of reward point system by the old management of Nova Exchange.
After the shutdown announcement in the fall of 2017 no more NPOINTS was given out and trades on NPOINT markets died down, and prices dipped down to very near zero.

In May of 2018, when the management of Nova was taken over by the Goobit Group, all mentionings of NPOINT had been removed from the site.
NPOINT have never in any way been affiliated to the new Nova Exchange, from May 2018 and onwards.

NPOINT was however still listed on Nova Exchange, just as any other altcoin.
After careful consideration, it was however decided that NPOINT should be delisted, as there was always a risk that customers would believe it had some affiliation with Nova Exchange.
One of the things we did take into consideration while making this decision was the trade volumes of NPOINT. Since May 2018 the trade volumes had averaged less than 12 dollars per day across all NPOINT markets.
The delisting happened in November, before the relaunch on December 3rd.

Nevertheless, we do want to make things right. If there is anyone out there that bought NPOINT in May 2018 or later, and did that thinking that NPOINT was in some way affiliated with Nova Exchange during that time, we urge them to contact our customer support by sending an email (or PM on the bitcoin talk forums).

Nova's history, and a gift for our friends!

Dear Nova Exchange friends,

We hope you will find this email interesting. We will try to describe our history as an exchange, where we are standing right now, and where we are heading. At the end of this email, we will also provide a gift to all of you who has shown great support for our exchange.

Nova has been operating since 2016.
In the fall of 2017 Nova exploded in popularity and went from spot 200+ on CoinmarketCap to #46. However, with great power, comes great responsibility.
The previous Nova team was quite small, and lacking the resources to keep up with compliance issues. The owner at the time was also worried about getting hacked. They decided to shut down the exchange in a controlled fashion. This shut-down was announced in December 2017.

Noticing the potential, the present owner, Goobit Group AB decided to acquire Nova Exchange. Goobit Group is Swedish, and so are most of the staff, although Goobit has staff all over the globe.
Goobit AB officially took ownership of Nova Exchange in May 2018, and the exchange was relaunched on 3 December 2018.
Since then, progress has been moving steadily, as we aim first and foremost for customer security, compliance and scalability. This is how we differ from other exchanges:

1. Nova has a custom built accounting system, which took quite some time to build. This system is up to Stock Exchange standards.

2. Nova has a balance surveillance team operating around the clock, every day of the year. Combined with the accounting, this means that your funds are safe.

3. All users have gone through a KYC (Know Your Customer) process. This keeps Nova compliant with rules and procedures, and protects both Nova and our customers from scammers, pumpers and dumpers, and other malicious threats. We want clean and healthy trading. Our goal is to provide a platform for just that, not only now, but also in the long run.

4. All coins that are listed are running on separate servers. This means that if one coin is malicious the worst outcome is that we will lose some of the funds for that single coin. We've seen that many exchanges have lost balance of many coins due to not following this procedure. This is not a risk for the Nova platform. Our top priority is always security.

5. Another common risk factor is Ether, and coins based on the Ethereum ecosystem. As much as we love Ethereum and find it an innovative project, with smart contracts and many other innovate features, it is difficult to work with.

Many attacks on exchanges have been through Ether based coins. To improve security, Nova decided to delist all Ether based coins last fall and have spent most of last year rewriting our Ethereum integration. This work is soon to be completed, and we hope to once again be a home to Ethereum based coins within a few months.

6. Nova stores 97% of all funds in cold storage, and on top of that, there is a dedicated team that moves funds when necessary. This way, if Nova would ever be compromised, an attacker will never be able to steal more than a few percent of all funds.

7. Nova is located in Sweden, a member of the European Union. Legislation protecting the consumer is tough here so all traders enjoy exceptionally high consumer protection.

8. Goobit Group, the owner of Nova exchange, also own and operate multiple other crypto enterprises. Our flagship product is BTCX (bt.cx). BTCX have been providing Europeans a quick and easy way to buy and sell Bitcoin since the beginning of 2012. We believe we are one of the most experienced crypto companies currently in business.

9. The world of crypto has been somewhat of a "Wild West" where funds can go missing without consequences. This will eventually attract lawmakers, and regulations will follow. Our insight into how other exchanges operate makes us convinced that most major exchanges will have problems adapting. We strive to be compliant right from the start. This means KYC processes and verifications, but also legal and technical due diligence of the coins we list.

This is our story, and we are grateful to be standing where we are standing today, being able to offer a great service to both friends and traders.

We believe that the season of alt-coins will be around the corner which is why we want to make it even easier to trade. Nova Exchange, on behalf of Goobit Group AB, is going to refund 100% of all trading fees until the last day of August. Every Monday, starting from the 22nd of July, all through August 2019, we will refund the last weeks trading fees.

That is, effectively, 0% trading fee for all our friends out there.

Regards
Goobit Group

2018-01-14 14:23 - Nova will NOT close its doors!

Honoured customers and crypto currency enthusiasts! You have been told a while ago now that we were planning to close down Nova Exchange in the beginning of 2018. We made this tough decision because Nova Exchange was growing at a speed, and in a way, that us, the founders, could not keep up with and run the business in a meaningful and secure way. Not wanting to make promises we might not be able to keep, we didn’t tell anyone, not anyone, that we never stopped looking for a way to keep going and keep Nova Exchange in business. So! We are so happy to announce that we have found a partner, a new main shareholder, willing and more importantly, able to carry on running Nova Exchange. The new owners, we have made sure, have the resources and the experience (6+ years in the business) it takes to provide excellent service to you all. We started negotiations and talks early in November last year, and now we can tell you the good news: The show will go on! More information will follow. In the meantime, just go keep on trading crypto. Best Wishes to you all!

I never understood what happened yesterday.
There was mining and it turned out that the network is wrong-i'd rather wait a little longer until it's fixed.

Sorry, I dont think I understand? Is there something not correct?

16  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Novaexchange.com (old and new owners) stole eth tokens tenx on: August 28, 2018, 08:25:48 AM

Hello all of you, this is Nova Exchange Official speaking. As you might have heard by now, the previous owner of Nova Exchange begun a cotrolled shutdown of the exchange since the business was growing faster than him and his crew could keep up with.

Starting in late April, we have a larger crew and we've dealt with this ERC-20 issue.

The situation is that everyone should be refunded. IF there is someone, anyone at all,  who believes we made a mistake, ask them to contact the support.

That part where someone calls us "disgraceful". What we did was to take in extra help to execute the ERC-20 refunds from another company. That is not to "not take responsibility", that is just to aquire extra help to solve the problem.

When re-starting Nova, we want to set a very high standard. This means being, and staying, reliable. It means providing a service where the only surprises to hit the traders are sudden movement in the price of their favourite coin. Nothing else. No surprises.

The ERC-20 tokens do offer surprises, and quite a lot of them, we'll be back with new on this and how we will handle it soon.
17  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Nova Exchange New Registrations not working on: August 27, 2018, 12:45:43 PM
Hello all of you, this is Nova Exchange Official speaking. As you might have heard by now, the previous owner of Nova Exchange begun a cotrolled shutdown of the exchange since the business was growing faster than him and his crew could keep up with.

At the same time he did look for new owners. There are many who want to get into the crypto game these days but very few are experienced enough for the task. Us, the new owners are experienced enough. About half of us have been working in the business 3 to 5 years. We have a few new faces since taking over Nova in late April and they are all fast learners.

Over the summer we have been working like crazy to re-start Nova, and when we do, we want to set a very high standard (adding the word "Standard" to our name is not a coincidence). The world of crypto is quite new, it is shaping itself as we move along, and we want to shape it, not get dragged along with it.

This means being, and staying, reliable. It means providing a service where the only surprises to hit the traders are sudden movement in the price of their favorite coin. Nothing else. No surprises.

SO! When do we open for new registrations?

We haven't set the date yet. Because when we do, we want you all to know that that date is set in real old fashioned stone. So, stay with us for that. We'll be there quite soon.

Have a great week!
18  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Novaexchange.com (old and new owners) stole eth tokens tenx on: August 03, 2018, 12:43:40 PM
Hello again,

We have reviewed this issue and found a workaround that we believe everyone will be happy with.

We have contacted users that have stuck ERC-20 balances on old Nova Exchange and have offered refunds, either by receiving the equivalent value of DOGE coins, or if the token is traded on another exchange as well, receiving the tokens through that exchange.

Specifically for Uniter, you should have an email in your inbox requesting an address where you wish to receive your funds. Please respond and we will send your tokens. Smiley

If there is any customer that we have not contacted, that believes they still have stuck ERC-20 token on the old Nova Exchange, please do send us an email on contact [at] novaexchange [dot] com and we will try to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible.
19  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Novaexchange.com (old and new owners) stole eth tokens tenx on: July 31, 2018, 12:55:36 PM
Hello,

new owners of Nova exchange here.

First of all, we're really sorry for your bad experience. There have been a lot of technical issues with the ERC-20 integration on Nova. This is the reason for both the delisting and this is the cause of the delay in refunds.

We, the new owners, have decided to not support ERC-20 tokens for the time being. We must first build a more stable solution to make sure we don't end up in the same situation again. This was decided just a few days before the exchange was sold to us, and as a result, customer support have been sending out conflicting messages about who will do the refunds. All claims for ERC-20 tokens should be sent to the old owners.

We are in daily contact with the old owners, and is continuously working with them to resolve all issues and old claims. Our intentions are that all claims will be refunded. Unfortunately, there are quite a few claims, and with the tech not working as indented, all of them needs to be handled manually. This is taking quite some time.

Both we, the new owners, and the old owners, have the intention to complete all refunds. We can however not give any promises about time frames yet, but will post updates in this thread as we move closer to finding a solution.

Regarding availability of ESP2 coins for the swap from old ESP.

Currently there are no coins available for swapping, it ran out a few hours ago. Novaexchange have sent a notice to the CryptoCoderz team that there are no coins available for swap and that Novaexchange needs a refill. I am sure that CryptoCoderz will refill the coins very soon. When new coins are available the queued swaps will be processed in the order they were submitted.
