441  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: March 06, 2014, 12:05:35 AM

I'm guessing if the location is unknown they are using a default longitude of 0° and a default latitude of 0°--where the prime meridian and equator cross.
442  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTB] 3 BTC for USPS money order at BitStamp rate (or make offer) on: March 04, 2014, 02:08:36 AM
I will sell for Bitstamp +8%. We can use escrow if you would like, see the link in my signature line (180+ trade partners, 100% positive feedback). Because of price swings we would have to settle on how much when I physically receive and am able to cash the USPS Money Orders.

Send me a PM if you would like to trade (or open a "buy local contract on my localbitcoins ad)

Not wanting to sound too presumptuous but I just want to give a word of warning about spurious money orders which clear (first) and are recalled (later, usually after a few weeks or even months) when the bank discovers they were not honored after having been found to be non-existent or originally printed somewhere overseas or fraudulent. There have been reports about how checks or money orders will clear and show on the account as available and later bounce--- then the bank holds the account owner responsible and fully liable for the outstanding amount, without prejudice to the bank's further right to press charges.

The fraudulent checks (usually cashier's checks) and money orders have been found to be of a very high caliber.

The OP might have legitimate intentions and I apologize if this is the case but then again I am sharing this with good intentions too.

I think it is great to keep getting this info out there. I worked in banking for 17 years and have several ways to verify a Postal Money Order, and told OP that I could settle on price once I was able to cash the MO.   Thank you for putting additional caution out there however, saw way to much fraud in my time!

OP could send the seller a picture of the receipt that the USPS provides when the money order is purchased in order to help substantiate it's validity.  Also, if the money order is redeemed at a branch of the USPS, instead of deposited into your bank account, don't they look it up in their system to verify that it is valid?
443  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Paper Wallets How Doth It Work? on: February 28, 2014, 06:33:14 PM
Where's a good place to learn how to recover funds from a paper wallet?  Some folks have lost bitcoins because they misunderstood the proper procedure.  It's not enough to successfully transfer the funds to a paper wallet. You have to also be able to successfully recover those funds.

Edit: By "recover funds" I mean "transfer the bitcoins to an online wallet" or "import the private keys from the paper wallet to an online wallet".
444  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Poll: Who should acquire & bailout MtGox? on: February 28, 2014, 05:52:58 PM
That is the beauty of bitcoin: No bail out, no too big to fail

And also a lesson to be very careful about centralized exchanges, users should never have large exposure on those platforms

+1

Those who are looking for a bailout are in the wrong currency.
445  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Poll: Who should acquire & bailout MtGox? on: February 28, 2014, 05:47:26 PM
I think the fact that most users of this forum voted "Nobody. Let MtGox die and clients lose all BTC and fiat." reflect very badly on the character of these individuals.

It's only 42% that have voted for this, most are actually voting for a bailout.  I wonder how many of them would be willing to put their money where their mouth is and contribute to a bailout fund.  Seems pretty silly to vote for what someone else should do with their money.
446  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: February 28, 2014, 04:49:37 PM
I guess I would just like to know... how... you are getting information.

Seems that he is being proactive and asking Jutarul questions.  I appreciate what he's doing, but would also like to see a PR rep attending the board meetings and providing regular updates if friedcat is too busy to do so.  A PR rep could draft an update and forward it to him for approval before release if releasing sensitive information is a concern.
447  Bitcoin / Press / Re: *DJ Mt. Gox Lawyer: Filed For Bankruptcy Protection Y6.5B Debt - updated on: February 28, 2014, 04:05:13 PM
OK I agree with you that I need more evidence and damn it I hope to find it.

I'm not a shrill for mtgox. I have bitcoin in there and would like to see them back in my own local wallet. I hoped that this angle actually gave us hope of recovering our bitcoins and explained Marks recent behavior.

The truth can be a tough pill to swallow in a tragic situation like this, but you just have to learn from your mistakes and move on.  I think you'll be very lucky if you get 50% of your funds reimbursed within a year.  You can cross your fingers and hope for the best, but expect the worst.

If he wants to take on the honey badger of money, let him.
449  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Poll: Who should acquire & bailout MtGox? on: February 27, 2014, 02:24:28 AM
Assume that all buyers would settle 100% of clients' funds and start MtGox again, who do you trust to run MtGox?

You should add Satoshi Nakamoto to your list of choices.  If the rumors are true, then I believe that only he has enough BTC to reimburse all of the clients' BTC deposits.
450  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Using a bitcoin as means for authentication on: February 25, 2014, 02:46:43 PM
I was thinking of using an bitcoin address public key to verify true ownership of the bitcoin(they key to the lock).

I understand it possible to track a specific bitcoin/parthereof. If the address is the true owner of the bitcoin then access is given.
My plan is to use a raspberry pi to open a mechanical lock when this validation process is complete. Of course there will be a constant
internet access to make sure the block chain can be scanned.

Correct me if I am wrong.

The Bitcoin network uses digital signatures to authenticate "ownership" of the BTC that belong to a particular BTC Address.  BTC transactions are specially formatted messages that are digitally signed in order to prove you possess the private key associated with a BTC Address.  You don't have to initiate a transaction to prove that you have the private key, you could just sign a message.

More info on digital signatures can be found here.

ah so the transfers out from havelock normally occur once a week just before dividends? I guess no need for me to send any more mail in that case...

Yeah, if other direct shareholders receive their dividend payments, but you don't, then follow up on the transfer.
452  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Official Money Lost in Mt. GOX Thread on: February 25, 2014, 10:57:47 AM
I think this amount is worth a lawsuit, i would do it.
Definitely worth a lawsuit. I mean why wouldn't you do it. Assuming you have money to file for a lawsuit and hire a lawyer. If not I bet there will be some collective lawsuits on the way that you can join.

Because you can't squeeze blood out of a turnip?  Perhaps it would just be a waste of time, money, and energy.

Peter talks about btc prices on Mt. Gox vs Bitstamp.  He admittedly doesn't understand why they're different.  He takes some calls on it.

Sorry guys, I don't get it. What has my GMail account to do with the GAuth app on my smartphone.

Nothing.  They're two different things.  I'm just saying that I prefer 2FA via an e-mail instead of Google Authenticator.
455  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: February 15, 2014, 09:46:33 PM
I like 2FA via e-mail because my e-mail account is set up with 2FA via a text message to my cell phone.  With 2FA via e-mail, a hacker would have to hack my e-mail account in order to access my Havelock account.  In order to hack my e-mail account, he would also have to hack my cell phone.

That doesn't make sense all he has to do is hack your email account and get the email you had forwarded as a text message or disable the forwarding. He only needs to compromise the cell phone or email account.

In order to access my e-mail account the hacker would have to provide the code that is sent as a text message to my cell phone.  (https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/180744?hl=en)  I'm not sure what you mean by e-mail that I "had forwarded as a text message".  My e-mails aren't forwarded as text messages to my cell phone.
456  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report: Projects on: February 15, 2014, 01:13:28 AM
What would be required to get in on this case?

Read Chainsaw's posts in this thread.  He did a good job of explaining what needs to be done in his previous posts in this thread.  He also provided a link to the website where you need to file a report with law enforcement in Britain.
457  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: February 14, 2014, 08:22:09 PM
2fa on withdraw is a decent roadblock to mitm attacks that can circumvent the initial 2fa sign in. Additionally I think the 2fa email is also a decent idea but less robust for obvious reasons

458  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTS 2 BTC for USPS Money Orders on: February 14, 2014, 05:39:31 PM
There was a dispute about the escrow agent's expected role. This happened before the transaction, no money moved. An agreement has been reached.

Quote from: Escrow agent
I will not redeem the money order and then resend another, as it would be illegal for me to do so, and a very large waste of my time. Holding non fiat funds for two parties while their Peer to Peer transaction is taking place is not illegal, if I receive fiat funds and transmit them to the other party, I would then take the role as a money service business, and would require money transmission licensing.

I am not a lawyer, so I don't know what the legal requirements for an escrow agent are.  But, if what the escrow agent said above is true and escrow agents are required by law to have a license in order to handle fiat, then the solution is to find an escrow agent with a money transmission license if you want to use escrow.

Here at Havelock we take security issues very seriously.

We have never had any issues with users that enabled 2FA on their account. We have contacted the person that has made the claim that is account has been compromised and are looking to resolve the matter has soon as possible.

Trying to balance ease of use and security is never easy, especially in the Bitcoin realm. We can always add additional security features but those will always slow down the user experience.

So we turn to you, our valued customers, what features would like us to add to our platform?

1. Confirmation email before any action is taken; some but not all actions.

2. Pending withdrawal of your Bitcoins; time lock?

3. Lock account by IP address?

We always value your opinions and we strive to serve the Bitcoin community to the best of our ability.

Also we can assure everyone that it was not an "inside rogue employee"

Thank you,

Support Team
Havelock Investments

2FA via e-mail, like on blockchain.info.

nope - Mac - and no, I didn't install that "Stealth Bit" malware

That's the only computer you've used to logon to Havelock?

Yep. Just my Macbook

Did you have Google Authenticator installed on this or a different device?
