Great, I just got the email from my group buy that the avalon chips have been dispatched to me.
Unfortunately i'm minus pics and pcb's that were supposed to be sent by bkkcoins. :-(

Bkkcoins if you are out there, you can send our stuff. I don't care if the PICs are not programmed.

Is there shipping included for the price of the item? Neither here or the drillbitsystems website seem to mention it.

Check near the bottom of the first post of this thread.  There's a shipping table there. Shipping is separate from price of the items.

Shipping costs are also listed at the bottom of the order page of the website: http://drillbitsystem.com/order.html

If you order through PayPal for batch2, shipping is auto calculated based on your shopping cart and destination for the order.

Yeah that's awesome...... but some of us live in Australia. There has been no pricing for local postage other than "it will be cheaper"

There was mention of PayPal shipping too for batch 1, any news on that yet? If it is easier I would just assume being invoiced for shipping and then I can pay it via PayPal same day.

that would be my preference too.

Great to see those cooling options Smiley If a water cooling version could be done, that would be great also! (more silent)

About assembly, why not doing it together with PCB manufacture in China? Wouldn't that save cost and time?  Huh

The bitfury chips won't be goig there, looks like They will be sent to Australia instead.
Getting stuff made here isn't too bad as its still All done by machine still.

I'm scared.   Cry

My mom moved away from her home and rented it to someone else and now I need to shift the delivery address to my apartment....

Crap..

What do I do.  Huh

can you get a mail re-direction?

K1 boards arrived.
I'm working on firmware now but want to get these boards cut up and shipped asap.

Sweet, looking good!

I think thats a bit expensive to be honest. If you are making a large quantity I would have thought $10-15 might be more reasonable if it doesn't come with any components..
You don't have to buy it, you can always go without.

Yeah I know. I paid for a fully assembled one the other night.

Hi Barntech,
The blank boards option for $50, does that include all surface mount chips and components (minus the bitfury chips)
I'm skilled enough to make some myself. Would you include a component/construction guide to aid in component placement.
Would you also sell a solder paste stencil?

The blank board option as it stands is just the board, and yes it come with a parts list and construction guide. Depending on how things go, we might be able to offer a little packs containing all the parts you will need, but currently you would have to source those yourself. Will keep you updated on whether this is going to be an option.

Cheers

Small update - my wife is going to Bkk to get the K1 boards this evening. She'll pick them up tomorrow and return the next morning. So I should be shipping a lot of orders Thursday/Friday. I'll process them in order as received assuming I get the firmware tested while she's away. The only nagging problems I'll have still are shortage of SS PICS and K1 heat sink delivery. I had both those worked out weeks ago but both have not arrived as expected. The 268 PICs I had shipped have either got lost or stuck in customs. They could turn up any time or not.

The K1 heat sinks I sampled and ordered back when I put the site up have become unavailable. I've worked on substitutions but so far that's not really coming together. I could get flat aluminium and self-fabricate by cutting and bending. Another possibility is a shorter 24mm x 27mm heat sink I do have available here. Since it's not 32mm long it would need thermal adhesive for attaching rather than screws. So that's a possible backup plan.

I'm open to suggestions on the K1 heat sink. I don't really want to give up on them as it's bound to be harder for individuals to dig up something suitable. Places contacted in China via Alibaba haven't been useful either as they've required minimum 1 ton purchases - well beyond what is feasible here.

I'm going to cut and drill my own k1 heatsinks from some old ones I have lying around. Shouldn't be to hard for anyone attempting to make their own

That's great. Will you release a cooling system with it so to be like pre-built OC? So maybe before shipment we could choose and pay for extra for the cooling system pre-built in it?

Does this group buy need to clear all the chips before completing? Or it will be delivered anyway in late Oct?
I will pbb buy soon Smiley will there be any updates soon?

Yes we're looking into providing cooling as an optional extra, either in the form of a heatsink or a case with fans built in. See where we get to on this. Priority first is to get the boards happening, and then we'll look at the other bits and pieces.

Regarding clearing all the chips, i have asnswered this one a few times now, though i know the thread is a bit long and tedious to read through. I'm gonna build an FAQ section on the front page to deal with things like this. So the answer is, if there are few enough chips left that we can afford to buy the rest out once october rolls around, then we will. My rough guess was 500. Lets see how we're looking as we get closer.

Cheers

Barntech

Will the boards have thermal vias to transfer heat to the other side? Much like the klondike avalon based board? You could easily bolt on your own heatsink then.

how much is the discount for pick-up in adelaide?

I don't think you will have any problems covering the 3,000 chip order, simply because Avalon have dropped the ball with their chip supply so a lot of people will be looking for alternative projects.

I will stick a link to this thread on the Overclockers Australia forum, that will stir up some local interest for you.

Yes i agree. Thats exactly what moved us into the Bitfury stuff in the first place. Originally we were going to do an Avalon based board, but still now months later, don't have any chips.

And cheers for posting it to overclockers. Spread the love!

Absolutely, thats why i'm looking here. no avalon chips.
Also a bonus to have someone in Australia doing this at a decent price..

Will these get reduced to around 0.31~0.32 in line with some of the overseas group buys?

What happened to the Paypal option on your webpage?

Hey. It's working fine on my end. What is the trouble you're having? Maybe try a different browser?

Yeah I see it now. So all good. Must have been a temporary glitch so no need to worry!

how much for shipping locally and international on top of 0.31?

Dont worry, you posted before I did. must be psychic

Hi, sorry to dig up such an old comment, but i decided to take a risk based on the above advice and ordered 7 qfn PIC16F1459-I/ML (before the web store was up, Doh!)
This will be for 4 k1's and the remainder k16's. I'm a little concerend now that maybe the k1's wont have enough juice to power these chips?
I didn't notice that earlier post about using the F version, and sorry I didn't comment on it.

You cannot currently use the F series on Klondike boards. Even though they are very similar and do everything the same they cannot run USB on 3.3V power reliably due to having an internal LDO regulator for USB. I have been checking with Microchip on ways to bypass that but so far they have not given me reason to believe it can work.

This means it will work ok if being chained but when using USB it may not play nice. The info I have from Microchip is that the LDO will operate in drop-out mode and provide lower than 3.3V to the USB circuit. The circuit can work that way but it's signalling levels will be below USB standards and may not work reliably in some cases. You cannot run it at 5V on the K boards because the other chips and ASICs require 3.3V.

I am still in discussion with a Microchip engineer about this subject but my last info is not promising.

Thanks, i'm still willing to give it a go and see what happens. Worst case scenario is I remove and replace the chips; I have the skills so i'm not too worried. Maybe I can use those ones as slaves as suggested above..

Hello BkkCoins

I am worried with the availabilities of microchip PIC16LF1459-I/SS. Microchip information  PIC16LF1459-I/SS   Estimated Availability:  05-Aug-2013

I think we would have to consider the possibility of alternatives or change package.

What do you think?

Thanks

Cheers!!
as mentioned, the PIC16LF1459-E/SS is a perfectly acceptable cross.  So are the PIC16F1459-E/SS and PIC16F1459-I/SS.

The only difference is that the LF can run to a slightly lower voltage (1.8 vs 2.3) - I don't believe BKK's design runs the PIC that low though, so the F is fine.

Enigma
