Well, it's up for debate in a lot of ways IMO. Here is a thread on Reddit that is somewhat helpful:

I think the aspect of interpretation with calculators is they feel hash moves in step with exchange price. From what I understand, that's not necessarily true, but alas, I am no expert. What we do have background and intel on is difficulty, power costs, and equipment costs.  What we don't is where that price is going to go.

AFAIK, difficulty and exchange price are independent. While they may move close in some respects, a black swan event could push price higher much faster than difficulty. If that was the case, being able to mine only 1 btc a week or something paltry like that, at some point, would then still be cost effective. Which, then, buying equipment to mine would be a "today" play on bitcoin displacing other currencies in the world soon.  It being ASIC, and not some future tech around the corner, is also showing that you think said displacement is going to happen within a, I dunno, year or so. Depending on what your interpretation of your analysis may be.

Hey I didn't carefully read the previous posts but I skimmed for any mention of OTC and didn't find any. I've had a lot of experiece with localbitcoins.com, an over-the-counter (OTC) service, and highly recommend it for both buying and selling anonymously.

Localbitcoins has no identifying information. The email can be fake. The btc address you'll use is on their site, so wherever you send the coins could be anonymous (laundered). The phone number you can optionally provide can be a burner. It's the ultimate, imo.

When you meet up, most transactions go super quick in a public area. They can also be conducted in private, really, wherever the fuck you want. Essentially, no personal information needs to be given up when you buy bitcoins with cash.

There have been some explorative papers on OTCs importance to the validity of btc but I don't currently have the links. Check out this interview with nanotube, however, who talks a bit about one of the first OTC listings, the channel #bitcoin-otc:

Your best bet might be to try http://bitcoin-otc.com/

Bitinstant is supposed to be back up on Monday.

You might also look into coinbase.com

Yeah, bitcoin-otc is great for over-the-virtual-counter transactions.

Have you checked out localbitcoins.com?

A little different than what you are looking for but I do a lot of transactions with their service and I think it's great.
