1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sent money from bitcoin core, never confirmed, where are my coins? on: April 26, 2016, 02:03:07 PM
Sorry for the double post:

I was able to find out how to execute the command via the bitcoin.conf file. So I've done so, and sent the coins to my wallet on Coinbase last night so I could sell them but they never confirmed either. I think the box for "make no-sum transaction if possible" was checked so I did the whole thing again, now I've sent the money with the biggest fee possible but I don't think it's going to show up in my wallet until it finishes syncing for the day. Fingers crossed

Once I restart it and the wallet rescans, how long should it take for the coin to be shown as available?

The rescan will take a while.  The exact amount of time will depend on the processing speed and disk access speed on your computer.

Once the rescan is complete, the bitcoins will immediately be added back to your balance.  It would be a really good idea to create a backup of your wallet before you start this if you haven't done so recently (just in case anything unexpected happens).

Just a little embarrassing, but I don't know how to open the command line. I'm typing "-zapwallettxes" in the "console" under help but I get a "method not found (code 32601)" whether I have "=1" or "=2" at the end

And is there any way to get an estimate with my hardware? I have an overclocked 4790k and a 1TB Seagate HDD bought new 18 months ago

I don't want to resend them, I just want the coins back. How do I do that? I also don't see an option to "remove" the transactions

All transactions will be removed from your wallet if you restart it from the command line with the -zapwallettxes command line option.  It will then rescan the the blockchain to find all confirmed transactions and add them back into the wallet.  Once those unconfirmed transactions are removed from the wallet, and the blockchain has been re-scanned, the wallet will show that 0.12 BTC value as being available for spending again.

This doesn't stop those transactions from possibly eventually being confirmed and removed from your wallet again though.  To do that, you'd need to get a new different transaction confirmed that uses the same input as the 0.08 BTC transaction.

Sounds simple enough. Once I restart it and the wallet rescans, how long should it take for the coin to be shown as available?

As RodeoX has pointed out, the problem is that the 0.08 BTC transaction didn't pay a transaction and the 0.04 BTC transaction is dependent on the other transaction confirming first.

It might be best to just remove the two transactions from your wallet and re-send them using coin-control features of the wallet and paying a reasonable transaction fee.

To make it easier to help you, please supply as many of the following as you are comfortable sharing:

  • bitcoin address that you sent to
  • transaction ID's of each of the transactions
  • Which software wallet or online service you are using to send the transactions
  • If you are using a software wallet, then which version of that software you are using

1. The .04 transaction is 7f646294d1035d9fb1b312b0ae593157432311514991698d18f800037b5ab34d-000, the .08 transaction is 17ca8bd34902ec466c3559a7aa46eb4085adcbd0ecca400b5c94f9d0576bc756-000
2. Bitcoin Core Wallet, v0.11.2

I sent .08485190 to an address and I tried to make the fee as small as possible, not knowing what that would do. It never confirmed, so then I sent .04770378 with a tiny/no fee which also hasn't confirmed.  That was the seventh. Today is the twenty third

I have the address these coins were sent to and the transaction numbers, if needed
