Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Return policies in a deflationary economy

Yeah, there's definitely been a learning curve with pricing for our t-shirt store what with the gyrations of the past few weeks - and we only sell one product . At the moment we're not doing returns, but the policy of returning at the current price does make sense to a certain extent. However, stores that are having mark-downs will often still refund the full purchase price, so even doing that would not necessarily match the services offered by dealers of FRNs. My hope is that, if btc catches on, the initial run-up bubble and crash is followed by relative price stability. Until that happens, the growth of the goods and services economy will be a bit hobbled...

@doood - Thanks for the referral! @SmokeTooMuch - Thanks for the order! @deadlizard - Yeah, that was a crazy up-and-down rally and crash; hence pricing in some volatility risk . Did someone just show up at mt gox with twenty grand and lay it out all at once?

Well, we decided to start this as an experiment in a btc-exclusive enterprise. We paid FRNs for our initial batch of shirts, but, if we're successful selling them, a local screen printer has said he'd consider accepting coins for future runs/new designs. The goal is to be able to meet virtually all of our overhead in coins, so if folks have designs that they'd think it'd make sense to whip up in a small-to-medium sized batch, we're definitely open to suggestions!
@Distribution The shirts are Gildan Preshrunk Heavy Cotton
@Memory Dealers A new address for each purchase.

Economy / Economics / Re: A Bitcoin Credit Union?

A key element might involve the creation of many credit unions, as one of the original bases of the movement was that the members of the organization shared a "common bond," which ensured that members would be generally aware of each others' financial situations, and that there would be social consequences for people who default. As such, perhaps you would have many small "credit unions," and if any one has a surplus of deposits or credit demand, they could make inter-institutional loans through a meta-credit union that would be owned co-operatively by the credit unions.

As a historian of the credit union movement, I think this idea is the bee's knees. I'll be curious to watch for new developments...
