@bitcoin_bug

I've thought about how to implement this, but it all comes down to how you redeem bitcoins to < insert currency of choice > on the edges. Here's a sample idea that I was trying to work with:

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5061/5898790520_fda447e331_b.jpg

However, as it says - there are plenty of things to be worked out. Storing trades via blockchain is all well and good, but it wouldn't be particularly fast. Not sure what the best implementation would be at this point.

How do you make sure that the people actually have the USD they are trading for BC.
582  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why not just buy a micronation? on: July 20, 2011, 04:45:59 AM
you would have to be very public about it, and always have cameras streaming live, that way if the US did try something the whole world would see it. my hope would be that it would turn out like Tienanmen square, but with the US actually being disciplined with trade sanctions. but i never see that happening with it being one of the most powerful entity in the world.

Again, you can watch drone strikes on your evening news and read about them in stories Every Single Day.

Backlash?

Israel boarded a boat illegally and assassinated activists. Once again streamed nearly live.

Backlash?

Collateral Damage video - you know Wikileaks first newsmaker?

Backlash?

The US public is more worried about getting their Social Security checks and x than innocent lives i guess.

585  Other / Off-topic / Drafting a new way of governing on: July 20, 2011, 04:35:53 AM
What i propose is publicly drafting a new "constitution" or way of governing people. anyone can suggest anything, and if enough people agree on it, it gets added. the purpose for this is mostly entertainment, but who knows, we might need it one day, so why not have it ready.

The propositions i make will mostly be from the already existing constitution. however I think it may be best to have 2 different documents. One for a type of government we have now, and one for if government splits up into really small micro nations the size of cities. For now I think only 1 is needed until it gets more mature.

Citizens that accept this document as a way of life are granted

The right to say, print or produce media as they wish, granted it does not exist in the freedom blacklist.
The right to own a weapon in the weapon white list.(most guns would be allowed, mostly the exceptions are automatics and weapons of mass destruction as citizens have no need or reason for own such devices, white listed to be sure that new types of weapons will automatically we against the law.)
The right to decline housing to any entity for any reason.
The right to decline any entity from entering your person or property for any reason, with the exception of a warrant.
The right to not incriminate your person. You may never be forced to say or perform any act that will convict you of a crime, with exception in the incrimination white list.
The right to never be classified by race, religion or gender by the government for purposes of money or public property.
The right to a fair and speedy trial by jury.
The right to fair bail for crimes.
Rights not granted by the document, but not explicitly declined, are granted to the citizens.
No government entity is allowed to create currency, with no exception.

Black lists

White lists

If you have something to add just post it, if you agree with something quote it. if you would like to modify something just quote it and change it how you see fit

Good ideas

Code:
No government entity is allowed to create currency, with no exception.
The right for the individual to knowingly consume any substance that individual sees fit.(GenXdark)

when enough people agree on something i will put in it in this code box. this will never mean that it is final, just that many people have agreed on it.

Code:

how would it look if the US just torpedoed 50 innocent people on a whim.
589  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BOUNTY 22 btc] lulzSec secure, private exchange on: July 20, 2011, 02:43:47 AM
Lulz Security® is not an entity you request, hackers are not people you want to associate yourself with.

Buying a center with decentralized currency? It just doesn't make any sense.

neither does living in a country that does not protect you.

yep, but you can make it better if you want to, its open source.
592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why not just buy a micronation? on: July 20, 2011, 02:25:38 AM
I think the best solution to this problem is to convince a gang or group of gangs to move to a rural area of the US and succeed from the union. It would be very beneficial for them to do so because they would create the laws. if it worked, it could spread, granted the government does not crush it.

Some problems, it would initially be a very violent society, murder and rape would be rampant in the area. but over time i could see that break down when normal people got in.
593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why not just buy a micronation? on: July 20, 2011, 02:19:52 AM
if you tried to tie some barges together, your in international waters, anything can happen. it would not only cost a fortune to live there, but you risk being blown up by the scared US gov, pirates and such too.
594  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and inherent value on: July 20, 2011, 02:12:01 AM
This will only happen when a huge merchant like walmart or amazon accepts bitcoin, even then they might still peg to the dollar until bitcoin is more widely accepted than usd. at that point USD would be pegged to BC.

TPB tried to buy this country, but the world feared them and refused to sell.

don't bother filing a police report, they wont do anything.

I don't see why they neglect what they are paid for but that's what your stuck with after being taxed your whole life and when it comes down to needing they help they look the other way.

Your BTC is gone, and thats that.
597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: idea for namecoin on: July 19, 2011, 12:08:06 PM
as i see it now, namecoin is not the solution for the dns problem, and could likely make things worse. but its perfect for things like this.
598  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: idea for namecoin on: July 19, 2011, 11:50:39 AM
you can already do this i think, just dont register to d/, if you can do that, they may also want to make a b/ or a/ bitcoin or address addresses.

600  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [If tx limit is removed] Disturbingly low future difficulty equilibrium on: July 19, 2011, 01:43:18 AM
I like an idea where EVERYONE mines to ensure EVERYONE has secure transactions. the fees should be low, only high enough to stop large amounts of spam and to cover the costs of electricity and in the long term ~3-6 months, pay off a rig.

A lot depends on what iratio of rewards for mining to bitcoin market cap is defined as secure. The current level could never be supported using txn fees.

Currently, around 200k btc are issued per month to reward miners for security. The pool of rewards from a fee is the transaction tax rate * the transaction velocity. Roughly double the monthly btc trade volume is a reasonable estimate of velocity. This is about 2 million btc per month.

To maintain the current level of security using a txn fee, you would need to tax every send at a rate of 10% (actually more since the tax would decrease velocity). This would yield the requisite 200,000 btc to pay miners.

This is clearly not sustainable. I think a more realistic tax is 0.1-1%. Any higher and the technology becomes useless. The implied level of security is 10 to 100 times lower than at present. Would this be secure?

It depends on how much an attacker could profit from controlling say 75% of hashing power. I don't know the answer to this. It seems safe to assume that potential profits are proportional to txn volume and/or money supply. We need estimates of the proportions (e.g. 10% of money supply?  1% of money supply 0.1% of money supply? (if it is the last value then a 0.1-1% tax on all sends could be sufficient to secure the network.). If it is much more than this, the future of decentralization looks bleak.

Im not talking about just dedicated miners, im saying if everyone donates a few hours a day of cpu/gpu mining, of course this will only matter if bitcoin goes mainstream and replaces usd or can at least be used at a gas station or something. if that happens, then just the additional 20% of the na/euro population mining would be more than enough to secure the network and raise difficulty by a lot. it would only cost each person a few dollars a month at most. this is of course implying a lot. we don't really know how much the usd to BC conversion will be even 6 months from now, if it skyrockets, then we can drastically reduce fees and miners will still get the same amount money kind of.
