821  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it good that the Bitcoin community acts like a cult? (Podcast) on: October 13, 2022, 10:04:42 PM
The fact that a lot of people in the community has a libertarian mindset, does not mean that they are part of some extremist cult. We have to remember that anyone challenging the "norm" and finding better alternatives..are in actual fact good for the society.
Depends, extremism usually isn't very good regardless what it's about. Although, I don't think Bitcoin is subjected to much of it, thankfully. There are though, definitely Bitcoin maximalists which could potentially be seen as harmful depending on your perspective.

Bitcoin is not a cult, it's simply ignored by "governments" and "financial institutes" because they fear the end of their era. Imagine world without fiat money, peeps would built in the chips into their hands and just swipe here and there, everyone would just want to have more and more bitcoin so that they can get the services or products they want without any middle party or bank etc.

It looks like cult because its new technology (relatively) and due to non ending hindrances peeps are unable to utilize it's full specs.
it hasn't been ignored by the majority of the world's governments. They're either regulating it via taxes or they're banning it. That seems to be the two most common approaches to it. However, I do doubt they fear it. Bitcoin isn't meant to take over, it's meant to provide an alternative, which I do think a lot of people concentrate on it taken over. and judge success based on that fact. When in reality it's unlikely to ever do that.

It's not exactly new technology either. A lot of what Bitcoin has implemented was thought of many years ago. The difference for me is while there was ideas of a decentralised currency, Satoshi is the only one to bring it to life, setting him apart from the rest.
822  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC Fight Night & Main Event: Sportsbet.io Predictions & discussion on: October 13, 2022, 09:55:34 PM
Really looking forward to Araujo vs Grasso this weekend. Grasso slight favorite if we believe the odds-makers with a 1.44-2.80 odds in favor of Grasso.

And dont forget to join the Multi Master for a chance of some free freebets:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5416540.new#new
Are those considered slight favourite odds? I'd say that's a faily moderate lean by the bookies. Slight favourites are usually priced at around 1.60-1.80 against their opposition which is usually within a .20 difference.

Tapology has it defined as slight favourite as well, but I don't read that as slight at all. I'd say a Grasso decision is probably the most logical bet to make here. Nets a pretty decdent return at 2.20 odds. Again, not massive odds considering it's a five round fight, and Grasso being the slight favourite. I'd like to think a slight favourite would return higher odds than that, since a slight favourite suggests they're only marginally considered the favourite.
823  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anderson Silva vs Jake paul who you bet on? on: October 13, 2022, 09:44:32 PM
I thought that Anderson Silva was going to be an underdog in this fight due to the age gap, but I must admit that after seeing recent footage of Mike Tyson at 57 absolutely destroying his trainer, I think Silva at 47 might be able to put Jake away.  Seeing how reserved he is, I may have mistaken that kindness for weakness, but I think I see now that this will be a better fight then I was expecting.  I also think Silva is probably the heaviest and longest fighter that Jake has faced.  Jake still has a weight advantage to go along with his youth, but Silva is going to land some punches on him due to the reach where Woodley couldn't.
Silva has always been a gentleman outside the cage, and very softly spoken. I suppose when you're used to every other fighter bigging themselves up, it can come across weak with someone like Silva. Although, he's anything but that.

Woodley freezes a lot, it was a problem in the UFC too, and not exclusive to his fight with Jake. There was times in that fight that if Woodley just threw some volume, he'd be asking questions of Jake. It just never happened. I've been saying it all along now, but I genuinely feel like we'll be walking away from this fight either thinking Jake cherry picked his opponents, and never really had a future in boxing or we'll see him as a real fighter. I genuinely believe he's the latter, he just needs the right opponent to showcase his defensive skills as well as his offensive skills, which we've seen he most definitely has.
824  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: October 13, 2022, 09:39:19 PM
I don't think Khabib will ever come back. He made a promise to his mother, upon the death of his father. That's not something you can go back on. Only if his mother insisted, which the impression I've got from her, that ain't going to happen.

You are not going to miss that much for this weekend with Grasso vs Araujo but I think UFC 280 Oliveira vs Makhachev will be much more interesting in next weekend.
Just make sure to be home or watch on the roads Adesanya vs Pereira on November 12, you really don't want to miss that one.
Try following news in forum and we are going to post links and highlights as usual.

I've got Charles for that fight. I'm just not convinced with Makhachev, and it does seem like Charles always gets underestimated. Although, I do think it'll be a entertaining fight. I also think the Grasso vs Araujo fight will be fun.

I'll be back for the Izzy fight thankfully. I'd be absolutely gutted if I missed that. I'm actually quite nervous about that fight. I'm just hoping it lives up to its hype, and I'm not too disappointed come the end of the fight. Hopefully, the added fuel causes Izzy to take some risks, and actually look for the knockout himself.
825  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] Members who support newbies - Thanks! on: October 13, 2022, 09:35:12 PM
Raising the standard is a difficult balance between helping newbie post, who might haven't got to a good standard (yet) and avoiding disgraceful future situations.

This is the art of being a good merit source, and it is not questionable by others.

Raising the standard is all well, and good, but we don't want it to be so difficult that no one ever ranks up. That's why having merit sources with different views is essential in my opinion. You don't want to standardise the way users give merit, of course having a sort of standard so it doesn't dip low is good, but I think we've already pretty much established that, and the merit system has done a fantastic job at what it was implemented to do.

Ultimately, it's theymos who decides on the standard, since they'll remove merit sources if they aren't in line with their vision. However, I don't think there's been too many recent merit sources removed? Plus, some removals may have not been for quality issues.
826  Other / Meta / Re: Top reporters on: October 13, 2022, 09:30:33 PM
Reporting certainly has dropped quite a bit, but has pointed out its a combination of things, including less posts these days. Most reports that I get are on posts that were made several years ago. So, we're sort of playing catch up from when the forum was at its height.

There's still a ton of cleaning up to do though. I guess the reporting statistics won't change all that much either, since with the reduction in reporting, there isn't going to be that big of a difference between the figures.

Hilariousandco has set up another thread showing just how many reports happen every period, so people will an idea of how much its actually dropped in the past few months.
827  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 11, 2022, 11:20:50 AM
Seems like Diaz could be out for long time, when you see somebody with braces that big over the knee, I am thinking not gonna see him until after WC.

Trent should be able to play but maybe Liverpool would be better off without him. Foden on that side and Haaland in the middle will have a free rain and I don't see how Liverpool can shut down City attack. Maybe they can win with some kind of freak result like 4:3 but I am sure City is scoring a couple of times.
Yeah, Diaz is probably out for a while. I'm hoping it was more of a precaution. We should be due some news though. Likely would've had the scans now, and determined the treatment plan.

What I will say is Liverpool do tend to step up against City. Alright, we're abysmal, and we're now facing a injury crisis once again. However, if anything is going to make us step up it'll be City. Who knows, it might be the complacency check we need, and we start playing some real football after. Call me a delusional Liverpool fan if you want, you might be right Tongue.
828  Other / Meta / Re: Does Forum Advertising Considered as a Formal Work? on: October 11, 2022, 11:08:15 AM
If you're asking whether you'll be able to get a reference from the forum or the signature campaign managers I'd say; no, and probably not.

When it comes to a CV/Resume formal work, and freelancing could be considered the same as LoyceV pointed out. I don't think I've come across an employer that specifically states formal work experience. I'm not even sure I quite grasp what that means, since work is work whether you're directly employed or a contractor, i.e a freelancer. As long as it's relevant to the job you're applying for, and actually somewhat substantial then include it. However, would I put signature campaign advertisement on my resume? No.

Although, if you did you'd have to put something down like work experience of advertising, and tell them exactly how you did that. Honestly, it probably isn't going to add much to your CV, since it's a simple process which doesn't require much if any skill at all.

I'd much rather personally replace that with more important content. The employer could easily assume you're just trying to pad the resume up.

However, signature campaign earnings need to be declared to your tax man. Obviously, this is dependant on your countries rules, but generally it's considered income, and therefore needs to be declared, and taxed, which I think a lot of users are missing. So, just because it's not deemed substantial enough for your resume, doesn't mean you avoid paying tax on it. I know that's slightly unrelated to the question, but I thought it was important side note to include.

By being official, it means there are documents and contracts signed. There are full benefits and rights and everything like the normal employee we knew as prescribed by our laws. Even some informal workers have signed contracts too but no full benefits and they aren't long-term.
A lot of freelancers end up signing contracts. So, there's no real distinction due to a contract being present or not. Plus, any work in the eyes of the tax man will be deemed as income, regardless if contracts have been signed or not. So, ultimately it's work in the eyes of the tax man. I personally wouldn't consider it as work, since I'm just doing what I'd be doing if I wasn't get paid for it. So, it's just a benefit for me. Obviously still taxed as above.
829  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anderson Silva vs Jake paul who you bet on? on: October 11, 2022, 11:02:16 AM
I would agree with the experience but I doubt Paul will come in second when it comes to stamina and endurance.  Paul is still young so he has probably more gas in his tank if conditioned properly.  We'll the truth, we don't know who will last longer until they meet in the ring.
Younger doesn't always mean fitter. That's across all sports, but especially for boxing. Jake has been so used to knocking out his opponents, but also his opponents not really answering back at him with punches. He may not have that great conditioning once Anderson starts throwing volume at him, and continues to do that into the rounds.

I'm not too bothered about the result, I'm kind of routing for Jake almost just to see where he can take this career, but I'm also split as I'm a Silva fan, but he's at the tail end of his career, and I know he's going to get paid some decent money for this fight. So, ultimately I'm happy whatever the outcome is as long as it isn't Silva face down on the canvas.

I think Jake does it. However, what I'm most curious about is how he deals with punches coming back at him, and the volume that Silva can output is still pretty decent judging on his last few fights. Also, he's a tricky fighter, he's unconventional in how he approaches fights, and throws his punches.
830  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 11, 2022, 10:58:34 AM
Don't care. Putting whatever money left I can spare on Liverpool v City. 4/1. This was better odds than Community Shield.

It does reflect the sad state of affairs with the Reds. But we're playing at home and Anfield will take us over the line.
Spoken like a true red. I'll never bet against Liverpool that's for sure. I did predict a draw the other day with the Arsenal game, that nearly came in. I'll be betting on a win for Liverpool, and nothing less on the weekend. My predictions themselves in the pool might be a little different. However, since I'm sliding down the leaderboard every week, I might as well chance it since most in the pool will be predicting a high scoring win for City.

I know which are worse. I started off season at bottom of pool and am more or less still there.

I looked up our Roy Hodgson season, and we were at 10 games only with 6 points, so... yeah, we are at our worst since Klopp took over, but at least we're actually doing alright in Champions League itself -- while playing well, well below what should be our average.

What hurts me most is that we were the hungry wolves, chasing down everything in packs, mowing down opponents, biting back and running harder than everyone else.

We're still doing that with about a third of the team but it's just not working out...

I'm normally pretty decent with predicting results, but this season is something else. I'm finding teams like Wolves, and West Ham who have been formidable over the last few seasons, absolutely awful as of recent. Same goes with Liverpool, and my loyalty to Liverpool has really impacted my scoring since they've basically lost or drawn every single bloody game.

At the end of the day, I love Klopp, and even if we had three seasons of this I wouldn't want him to leave. He did the impossible, and turned that side into a winning team. Alison scored a bloody header for Christ sake. So, I won't stop supporting the boys, Diaz is a massive loss, but I think the Trent injury might benefit us in the short term. Obviously, Trent is world class, but at the moment he's having a rough time. Gomez could potentially build some confidence in that position, and steady our defense a little.

Time will tell.
831  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: October 11, 2022, 10:53:07 AM
I'm missing the next few events unfortunately due to travelling. I'm going to miss my UFC weekends, but I will get my predictions up early this week for the next event. Obviously, any cancellations I'm probably not going to amend. If I do make any predictions in the next few weeks (situation depending) I won't be reviewing any footage, so it'll be done from memory rather than statistics or anything like that. So, I could potentially be right off for the next three weeks.

Looks like I'm missing a few good events too, and obviously the boxing with Anderson, and Jake which to be honest I was quite looking forward too. Anyway, as for the Khabib, Woodley debate I don't think there's much debate in it. Wrestling wise Khabib probably takes it quite easily. Remember, Khabib was a champion in Sambo before he came into the limelight, and a bloody good one one at that. So, while he may have had a relatively short UFC career, he's probably got one of the longer careers out of most fighters. I mean, we've all seen the bear video.

832  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Take bitcoin as the virtual currency, that perform better than physical currency on: October 10, 2022, 11:34:12 PM
To be fair, comparing a currency which has recently launched i.e a bit over a decade, and a currency which has been around for a very long time isn't exactly fair. It would be best to wait a while, and compare it once everything has settled down. Usually, prospective investments whether that be stocks or Bitcoin tend to have massive inclines, and declines at the beginning, as people are still feeling them out.

Obviously, Bitcoin is designed this way too, and while the idea is it should be deflationary over time, and therefore already suggesting it will perform better than any other currency which is inflationary, that does remain to be seen, and confirmed. There's a lot that can happen between now, and then so I'm not counting my chickens yet.
833  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 10, 2022, 11:31:31 PM
I don't know what's worse at the moment, Liverpool's results or my predictions. They've both been incredibly dire. I started off the season okay, not terrible, but it has been all down hill from there. Liverpool play Manchester City next, so I think that's probably a easy prediction for most users. Not sure, if they just chance it, and see if Liverpool can get something out of the game, despite how big of a miracle that would be required. At least, that's what it feels like at the moment.

Also, Haaland has been absolutely insane. Even when he isn't playing great or had minimal touches he still manages to find the back of the net. I suspect players will adjust to his play style eventually, but at the moment he's having a field day.
834  Other / Meta / Re: Why there is NO meme category in this forum? on: October 07, 2022, 10:36:12 PM
Memes are fun when used sparingly. A whole section would just encourage low level of spam, and lets be honest not many users would use it. Bitcoin only has a limited amount of memes anyhow. I think Reddit would be a better place for that type of content, as the way it displays posts suits it. Not necessarily a subreddit dedicated to Bitcoin, though. Maybe, a more meme centric sub reddit or maybe Twitter.

I'd say with a high level of certainty you won't be seeing a section dedicated to memes any time soon. This forum is primarily a discussion based forum.
835  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: 12 Word Recovery Phrase - a security weakness? My (free and simple!) solution(s) on: October 07, 2022, 10:28:07 PM
This has always been my main concern about Bitcoin: the balance between making sure I don't lose access, and making sure nobody else gains access.
Good, it should be all of ours biggest concern. Ultimately, we're responsible for our own money, and that doesn't come lightly. I'm going to sound like a broken record, but this is the classical problem of balancing security, and convenience. If you have it too convenient you're likely making it easier to attack. If you don't have much convenience you'll likely forget or lose access to your Bitcoin.

This is why you see people put passwords on their routers, but keep the password in plain text next to their computer. This is why you see organisations invest thousands into safes to store data, yet they keep the door propped open via some boxes. This is a common problem within all industries which require a level of security.

Ultimately, we're all lazy, hence why most people that don't make a conscious effort to implement a good security protocol, end up being very easy to compromise. Hence why most people use very similar passwords. Then, we have people that go over board (I may have been guilty of this, multiple times), and over complicate things, which the trade off isn't worth that extra complexity, since you're effectively either encouraging short cuts because it's so damn inconvenient or you're setting yourself up to forgetting or losing control.

What OP has proposed is flirting the line with over complicating something, that doesn't necessarily need to be too complicated.

I've seen many topics from people who don't know how to access their standard wallet anymore. I've also seen people lose access to their funds because of their own handwriting.
Any complication you add, largely increases the chance of losing access by yourself.
A problem that I think is more common than we're led to believe. I've done it, not with Bitcoin, but other things. Especially if you haven't taken the care required to separate a 5 from a S. These are the things you need to think about when backing up though. Using a computer potentially leaves a digital trace of that seed, while hand writing has the issues of spelling, or just the way you write things.

Plus, it's the fact that you should probably be guarding towards health issues if you're going this far into depth to secure your coins. The more complicated you make it, the less likely you're to recover it, if anything were to happen to your mind, e.g dementia.
836  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it possible to calculate how much the price of BTC? on: October 07, 2022, 10:12:02 PM
Mathematics fails where Bitcoin is. Because you can't do that even a supercomputer can't calculate at all. It's like we can't forecast our future, Bitcoin price totally depends on supply and demand. We don't know if big investors leave Bitcoin near future which would dump or we don't know if we will get new big investors which would pump a couple of x Bitcoin prices. So forget about price calculation. If you are a risk taker then accumulate.
It's not that Mathematics fails, it's just impossible to predict. There are ways you could estimate, but that would be so broad, and full of speculation that it would probably be rather pointless. You'd use Math to get to that conclusion though even if it was broad.

If you knew every single factor from here to the point where every Bitcoin has been mined, you'd have a good chance at predicting it. However, since you can't know everything that's going to happen during that time, you can't. It's as simple as that, to do Math you need the input to get the output, which is something we don't have, and won't ever happen until that day comes.

You can however, calculate the risk. At the moment, I'd probably go out on a limb, and say the only immediate threat that I see would be global bans of Bitcoin. However, I still think that's rather unlikely. The other things that could push the value significantly down would be vulnerabilities discovered, but hopefully we won't have too many of those in the future as that can definitely drag consumer confidence down.
837  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is an economic recession bearish for the market? on: October 07, 2022, 10:08:36 PM
Bitcoin will see increased prices as soon as we start recovering from the recession. Others have touched upon it, but during the very start of a recession, everyone is filled with panic, and due to the drastic changes are usually worried about putting food on the table, let alone investing in a newish cryptocurrency.

So, basically buying power goes down, which results in less coins being moved. Exactly what happens with fiat systems when the market crashes. People don't have the money or the will to spend their money, which results in businesses feeling the pinch. It ultimately takes time, and adjustments by the people, and governments to mitigate the effects. Once we start to recover from the recession a little bit, that's when people have more buying power, and are coping with the recession. Not only that, they'll look to alternatives since they've just lost a lot of money being invested in a fiat system, which is the direct cause for them losing their money.

So, when the market starts recovering, we'll see increased buying, which in turn should increase prices.
838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 90% of bitcoin is owned by 2% of user base on: October 07, 2022, 10:04:16 PM
These are bad news for bitcoin, and it is indeed a fact most bitcoins are centralized in few addresses, even though some or most of them must belong to exchanges. On the other hand, some owners of wealthy addresses might have died already, lost private keys, hardwares or simply won't move/sell their coins for ideological reasons.

So we can't say exactly how many of those bitcoins are circulating or have chances of circulating on the market.
Even if the OP's assumptions were correct, which they aren't; Bitcoin can be scaled. While we'll always have the wealthy elite as some like to describe them, it doesn't mean they have influence over you. Any moves they make in the market could have short term effects, but beyond that it doesn't really matter all that much. For example, them selling a very large amount of Bitcoin could cause a small panic among other users, resulting in more sales, and pushing the price down. Although, ultimately we'll recover from that, and the effects are only short term.

The real centralisation issue right now would be mining, which is somewhat unavoidable to an extent. By that I mean, it requires a significant amount of money to remain in profit with mining, so it's only reserved to those that have the initial funds to mine. That could potentially become a problem in the future, but I don't think it's a huge problem. As for the market share of coins, that's almost irrelevant to me personally.
839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Namibia Now Accepts Bitcoin As Payment on: October 07, 2022, 10:00:42 PM
So in Africa, Bitcoin has become a better alternative to banknotes.
Which is brilliant to see. I think this is something that a lot of people miss out on. Bitcoin truly has achieved its goal, and gone well beyond what we thought was possible all those years ago. I think part of the plan was creating something like it, but getting people to adopt it, and actively use it was another challenge all together.

For example, in the UK we don't get presented with the same challenges, exchanging local currencies, and all of that is relatively simple. So, it's always nice to learn about how Bitcoin has actually got people out of a situation which 15 years ago they may have been stuck in. I did touch upon it, but I do believe Africa is one of the places proving this every day, that Bitcoin is a viable option, but also has already achieved its goal.
840  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anderson Silva vs Jake paul who you bet on? on: October 07, 2022, 09:40:38 PM
I probably won't bet this fight because I have no idea who will win.  Anderson Silva is clearly the better and more established fighter, but he's old...  Jake has age and likely supplements on his side, so for me this is a risky fight for Anderson Silva while also being one hell of a payday.  I can see why he didn't want to turn this fight down.  Win or lose I suspect it'll be the last time he enters the ring.  Personally, I'd like to see Jake get knocked out and I'd hate to see Anderson Silva get knocked out, so I probably have too much emotion on the line to add money to it.  I'll watch the fight though and hope for the best.  Old man power better be on display.
I've seen multiple people claiming that Jake Paul is using steroids now. Is there any merit to that or is that just something people do when someone in the fighting business has some degree of success?

I can't remember who said it now, but they claimed that from his amateur fights to his first pro fight he put on a unimaginable amount of muscle. To me, he looked like he toned up more than put a massive amount of muscle on. He also cut his body fat percentage quite significantly which gives the impression of being bigger, due to the muscles bulging rather sitting under a layer of fat.

After his fights he pretty much goes back to his normal body weight, like a lot of professional fighters do. Going by face value, I imagine the claims are unsubstantiated.
