901  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 29, 2022, 10:25:26 PM
Maybe bookmakers are favoring Dern to easy because she is fighting at home, but Yan lost her last fight with split decision, and I am expecting her best performance in this fight.

Yeah, but Yan is pretty good at grappling which is a little different from submissions, and therefore might be able to dominate in the 50/50 positions, especially against the fence. Where as Dern is BJJ expert, and is a submission threat is she going to be able to effectively get that take down. That's what I'm concerned about when looking at her.

It's not a strong prediction from me, it's more of a lean. I actually really like Dern, but I just feel this could potentially be an upset. Yan's also fought some decent opposition, and definitely isn't a cake walk.
902  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org collectible coin ideas & vote on: September 29, 2022, 10:22:01 PM
Whatever happened to this idea?
From reading Welsh's posts here it seems like there was trouble getting it manufactured.

It might be nice to get it restarted for a 15th anniversary.

If I could make a suggestion of making contact with MrCryptHodl if it comes to pass that
the project is resurrected. He is very active making coins or at least releasing coin projects
and he may be able to help!
Yeah, finding someone willing to do it, with the required quantity was difficult. I can't remember all the specifics now, but I imagine theymos had similar concerns when thinking it up. If it was ever to be done, I'd think a 20th anniversary would be more fitting. However, it would probably need to be organised well in advance, since last time we didn't really give the manufacturers much notice to actualy be able to do it in the required timescale.

I wouldn't say it's completely off the table, but I imagine theymos will have cooked up an idea for the 20th too. If we find a manufacturer the whole process could go pretty smoothly giving it's done in time. So, if anyone knows of anyone then they can give me a message. I like the idea, but there's also the issue of sending it. Since, in the past there's been a ton of competitions with physical prizes, but the majority pass on it. So, I can't imagine there would be a ton of users here willing to give up their personal details, which is absolutely fine, and probably a good idea. However, it kind of defeats the point of giving a collectible coin to specific users, since you'd need multiple back up plans. The list would probably be as long as my arm.

I think I was more naive, and hopeful last time out, plus this is something that should be given a lot of thought before implementing it. So, in a way I'm kind of glad that I didn't find a manufacturer. Although, if something can be thought up to mitigate the above issues, I'd still be interested in doing something along these lines.
903  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 29, 2022, 05:43:38 PM
Anyway, the Premier League is finally back. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't really follow international football so have no idea what went on the last few weeks. Just checking though, it doesn't seem like we have any major injuries so that's something new.

Liverpool are against Brighton which I'm actually not confident in. I might be going for something that isn't a win for the first time. Knowing my luck, Liverpool will likely blow Brighton away, which isn't out of the realms of possibility since we've had a small break now,and we should be a little more tactically adept with some of our injured players getting sharper every day.
904  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul VS Anderson Silva October 29th on: September 29, 2022, 05:40:56 PM
I'm split myself as I was with the Woodley fight. It's probably going to be Jake's toughest challenge yet, though I'd put it in the same category as Woodley. Woodley is nearly ten years younger than Silva so he has the age advantage, but Silva was a much better MMA fighter and is now doing fairly decently in boxing himself so there's pros and cons to bother fighters in terms of matchups. If I had to put money on it maybe it goes the distance and Jake on points. I kinda want Jake to win though just to see how far he can actually take this, and ultimately I really wanna see him fight someone like McGregor. The build up to that fight would be epic with all the trash-talking and I think Jake could give Connor a good game in that respect.
Yeah, it's a tricky fight to call in my opinion despite what some boxing elitists are saying, including some very famous boxers, but there we go. The only thing I'd say is Anderson is known to put some volume out, whereas Woodley was nicknamed "the frozen one" since he basically looked like he froze at times, and you could see that still happening in the ring. It's not necessarily a flaw, as he had some obviously very successful times in the UFC. Although, Anderson does put a lot of stuff out there, and that's what I'm most interested in.

If Jake can also prove he can fight on the back foot, and defend intelligently. I actually think he could go somewhere pretty decent in his career.
905  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 29, 2022, 05:37:36 PM
^  Oof no.  Sodiq Yusuff is legit...  But for a small bet, why not cos who knows, even Kamaru Usman got beat in a match he was winning.  But if you want a live dog go for Guido Cannetti as Randy Costa doesn't have more than 5 minutes of cardio in him.  He has powerrr in those hands tho.  Safer bet would prolly be under 1.5 rounds if you want it.

It would be nice if only there was a book where we could do live betting.  I'd go for Cannetti after R1 if he survives Costa's early barrage.
Yeah, I'm very reluctant to put Randy on the accumulator, since he's a pretty predictable fighter, and his weaknesses are known by everyone. He's going to come out, try to knock his opponents head off, and probably gas as a result. He's also the type of fighter that drops his hands very low when he's feeling it a little. So, I wouldn't even be surprised if he gets finished himself. I think it all depends on how much he empties of the tank early on, and how success he is early. Obviously, it looks good when you finish the opponent quickly, but it doesn't always happen like that.

Conor pretty much found out the hard way, fighters knew what he was going to do, and they avoided a brawl early on knowing he'll eventually tire, and become much easier to beat.
906  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul VS Anderson Silva October 29th on: September 29, 2022, 12:52:37 PM
When people start these vs threads they should really make them polls. I’m curious who the community feels is going to win this one but don’t want to read through and tally everything myself. I think that youth is going to beat experience in this one, but I also don’t think Jake can knock him out so we’ll have to see if he can win when it comes down to a decision.
I feel the community will be divided. The thing is Jake has knock out power, but will he be able to use that knock out power now he has a bit of volume coming back at him. Plus, Anderson is a tricky fighter, he's not your traditional boxer, and he doesn't throw traditional punches. However, he does throw them quite a lot which I think is the difference between this opponent, and all previous opponents. We've yet to see Jake be put on the back foot, and I think at the very least Anderson will be able to do that at some point in the fight.

I'm currently swaying towards Jake though, which pains me to say as I loved Anderson in the MMA scene.
907  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul VS Anderson Silva October 29th on: September 28, 2022, 07:43:43 PM
Lets discuss the probability, that this fight is going to be staged. Do you think this is possible? I doubt that Jake is able to knockout Silva, but I consider that this fight might end with a draw. And I dont expect Jake to be knocked out (due to clause in fight contract). Btw, Silva is going to be Jakes first southpaw opponent. For real unprofessional, this is going to cause troubles.
I wouldn't of thought so. The commission, and the promoters behind boxing isn't going to risk something like that. It would discredit boxing, and it's not like Jake is liked by everyone within the boxing community. If caught, it would basically discredit every single boxing event that has ever occurred, due to the nature, and exposure that Jake Paul has. Fixing does happen, obviously. However, it's usually the fighters or teams themselves. If you're asking whether I think Anderson would be willing to take a dive; absolutely not.

I think every single knockout Jake has gotten, has been legitimate. Trust me, no one willing fully wants to get knocked out, and turned into a meme. The only one which I thought the accusations would be thrown around the most was the Woodley one. Simply because he didn't throw much. However, anyone that knows him from the UFC will know that's just his style. He's always been like that, and it's probably one of the reasons Jake Paul's team thought he was a good choice to fight.
908  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 28, 2022, 07:38:45 PM
I made my early prediction on Dern to win in Sportsbet Multi Master Challenge, but more I think about this fight more I have a feeling Xiaonan Yan could make a surprise win.
I won't watch this even live and I am not to excited to watch main event, but I just saw very interesting training by Alex Pereira in his preparation for Adesanya fight.
Is someone going to need some kind of wheels in that fight?  Grin
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/_kp47BiSDu4

Yan is defintely the value bet here, and I think she might just pull it off as well. Mainly, because she's a volume fighter, but also quite strong on the grappling. She's quite big in there compared to most of her opponents too, and I'm not sure if Dern's going to struggle with that. I've doubted Dern before though, and she's pulled it off. I think she might have the advantage on the ground, where as I'd actually fancy Yan on the feet.

I might put a small bet on Yan just because of the value of it.
909  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 27, 2022, 09:29:01 PM
I'm thinking that Dern could get beat this weekend, and will be one of the pie shitters as tokeweed often calls them. I like Dern, but I'm just not confident in picking her for this event. She's got good BJJ, and a decent stand up. I'm just not feeling the odds. I'm not even sure if it's worth betting on the fight going the distance due to her threat on the ground.

Also, I can't put another bet on Brendan Allen, as he let me down massively the last time I backed him, and he looked awful too. Those are my early thoughts, I'll get my predictions out closer to even as usual. Although, I do think this could be a tough event to pick so might avoid it on the betting front.
910  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 25, 2022, 04:06:53 PM
Yeah it's boring with UFA and without football, but there was very good Bellator event with Yoel Romero just finsihed, so maybe you can check that.
There is also Dana White Contender Series I am watching recently and they are great to watch, Dana is forcing them to show all their skills.
I am not specially excited with next UFC event starting this weekend Sad

I tune into Bellator events now, and again. I do find them heavily skewed a lot of the time though, and if you check the odds they usually reflect that. I'm much more interested in sport in general when I've put together an accumulator, without it I wouldn't watch nearly as much as I do.

Bellator doesn't really make that possible, due to the matchmaking they seem to do. At least with the UFC, there's only the occasional landslide. For example, like the Nate vs Chimaev fight that got cancelled. I wasn't all that interested in that fight due to the matchmaking, but also the odds didn't make it exciting at all.

2. Name in the Bitcointalk Forum.
No matter how good your username is on the Bitcointalk forum, it will not have any effect on your account, because the forum ranking is not determined by the username, without contributing well to the forum you will never rank up.
This forum does not look at the good and bad names of each user, the positive value here is the contribution to the forum.
Like I said before, it definitely does. The sub conscious of us isn't something we can turn off at a moments notice. There needs to be real effort made to avoid subconscious bias, and even then there's no guarantees. We're humans, and therefore we will always have some sort of bias.

The question would be how much it influences things, probably not all that much, and as I said before measuring that would be near impossible. Ultimately, due to not knowing how to measure it, and therefore no data it's really up to the user themselves. Although, most users probably didn't put a whole lot of thought into their usernames when registering. Most just use some sort of random generation.
912  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul VS Anderson Silva October 29th on: September 23, 2022, 10:17:36 PM
So everything boils down as how much money they can generate, even if it is former UFC/boxers against a Youtube sensation. And yes, this could be stage and rigged so it's really up to those gamblers if they are willing to be "part of the plan".  Grin
Boxers make their money through sponsorships, and the fight money. UFC fighters don't get either. There's recently been backlash since they've been prevented from having their own sponsors, in favour of UFC sponsors. I mean, take a look at the Nate Diaz drama with the Rock currently, which is all about him being forced to wear the Rock's shoes.

I can't really blame the fighters wanting to make their money in boxing. If I was them, and I wanted to take care of not only my future, but my families I'd be boxing. UFC need to wake up at some point as they'll lose a lot of current fighters once their contracts are up or they'll lose out on prospective fighters since currently in terms of monetary value boxing is more worthwhile. It also doesn't look good when pretty much all your fighters are complaining about the pay, and legends of the sport are retiring in boxing, because quite frankly they didn't earn what they should've in the UFC.
913  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How mentally prepared are you? on: September 23, 2022, 10:14:15 PM
When I was a newbie back then, the second figure checks out though. I felt like "HODL" was just simply keep it held for a week or a month, but nah I was wrong. Now I am here, it does not really feel that much of a journey now as you described since it is just my side hobby to trade crypto. Not trying to be successful since I am to be successful "elsewhere" anyway.
These most certainly aren't universally accepted timeframes, but here's what I think: Long term is several halving events, medium term is either a little while after one halving or two, and finally the short term I see any time really that you can make a trade. So, holding to me is the former of the three.

Obviously, others will have differing views, but generally if you're invested in the long term you need to be prepared to go through rough times, as well as the good times. It's almost guaranteed if you're holding more than a couple of years, since a lot usually happens during that amount of time. Especially with what I'd consider a still developing currency which hasn't quite made it to the mainstream yet, and by that I mean being adopted. The mainstream is definitely very well aware of its existence which is the start.
914  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How mentally prepared are you? on: September 23, 2022, 09:37:58 PM
I already experienced a bear market, especially after the parabolic run in 2017-2018. So for me, what happened earlier and now which the dump is really too hard, it became normal for me or before I am expecting this after we hit the all-time-high around $69,000. I am expecting a pullback and my thoughts is the Bitcoin Block Halving event, which this event I believe the reason why we will start to recover.
The thing is, this time isn't not really comparable. I've said this a few times over the weeks, but mainly regarding short term pricing. However, those that have been through it before might assume that it's just going to end up like it always has. Although, that's ignoring the fact that these really are unprecedented times with a global pandemic which pretty much stopped the world, a war which basically everyone is involved in at least economically, and compounding recent effects like fiat from rate increases, and the fact that Bitcoin was deemed too energy deficient by a rather large company, which tanked it's prices. We somewhat recovered from the latter, but these are all compounding things that are dragging the price down.

Some of those things are long term events which is going to drive buying power down for as long as it's still a big event. This recession could potentially last years. The UK government just today announced changes to try, and combat a housing crash, and reducing taxes. Obviously, when we get out of the recession those taxes will go up to compensate, but they've already recognised people can't afford to live.

So, while we're all hoping history repeats itself again, I'm afraid that most people are just blindly trusting that, since the past dips, aren't comparable to this one, at least for the reasons why there were dips in the first place.
915  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for September on: September 23, 2022, 09:31:22 PM
Yeah sucks...  Anyway, US session starts in an hour and it looks like it's going to open red again.  I was gonna wait til the next month's sentiment thread to ask and make a poll but I couldn't wait...  Check this out.

You guys think there's a high chance we get another leg down or nah?  With all the stuff that's going on, I'd say yes.  But then again it's the bottom of the range and it could bounce just like the last time at June...  What do you guys think?

Edit:  Locked the poll.
I don't know. I'm not even sure how much of an influence these US decisions will have. I'm so used to US news dominating the news (seriously I know more about what's happening in the US, than the UK), that I've always thought that basically anything that happens in the US changes the way we think worldwide. I'm hoping that's not the case with Bitcoin, it shouldn't be highly dependant on the US market, although I'm likely just kidding myself there.

Obviously, the  fear from it will have an effect, but I'm hoping that even in the short term people just ignore it, and carry on how they were. Obviously, the recession is goinng to limit that normal routine quite a bit, but I've also noticed that generally people become outraged, scared or excited, and then it quickly passes. I've described this as the goldfish attention span in the past, and that's what I'm hoping happens with Bitcoin, after these announcements. The thing is with the recession you're in it, so you're constantly feeling it. These announcements which are partly related, but I do believe the build up to these discussions are much worse for Bitcoin, than the actual verdict. If that makes any sense at all. Obviously, I'm not involved as much in American happenings.
916  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul VS Anderson Silva October 29th on: September 23, 2022, 09:24:35 PM
I think most fights are done because of the money alone...  I actually like the way Jake Paul has started handing out paydays to those he likes.  It makes the most sense.  Find fighters who have established themselves in underpaid fights for the UFC, then create an ultimate fight where they both make a fortune without the UFC.  Sure, Jake is doing it because it makes him the most money, but the side effect of having underpaid fighters get a massive payday is pretty cool.  I hope he continues getting his idols paid.  It's pretty awesome.
Hasn't he started a union or was suggesting to start a union for the UFC fighters? I'm not sure if he was serious or if he was just making fun of Dana at that point, since I know they had a ongoing beef. However, they really should start thinking about uniting together, and actually doing something about the pay situation. UFC is taking off like no other sport right now, we're seeing record growth, yet fighters pay has remained the same.

Honestly, I'm not even sure how boxing generates the money it does, since I do believe there's been an ongoing trend where boxing is losing supporters. Maybe, these Youtubers coming into the scene did help out a bit. I doubt any boxing elitist is going to admit that though Cheesy.
917  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 23, 2022, 09:21:01 PM
As for Kevin Holland, you never really know what's going on with him, since he loves to troll the fans, and the fighters he fights. I don't think he'll be retiring, unless he's got a contract for boxing, since I wouldn't have thought he's made enough money in his career to retire just yet, when arguably bigger named fighters than him, with longer careers are complaining about the money they make, and basically being homeless in some cases.

I believe Chimaev claimed that or something along those lines, I know he lived in the gym that he was training at. So, no I don't believe Holland when he says he's retiring. Although, maybe he got a little extra on the side for accepting the fight against Chimaev, and basically keeping the event alive.
918  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 23, 2022, 07:50:03 PM
As for moving up, I didn't take it being cocky, I thought it was rather respectable to be able to risk your zero by taking on a challenge which a lot of people said wouldn't be an easy one. I'm more of a fan of people who dare to be, than are naturally gifted, and get it all.

I know Izzy does have a cocky persona, but I just think most of that's self belief. He believed he could of done it, and every interview I've seen since he's basically said he tried to do his best, and he wasn't good enough.

Damn, I hate weekends without UFC. Especially since other sports are taking a break too.
919  Other / Meta / Re: Archival section moderation policy on: September 23, 2022, 10:12:55 AM
The problem with drafts is that only 100 are stored, and on a busy day I can click Preview that many times. Anything from the previous day is gone.
That's a crazy amount of previewing. I imagine you're a outlier in that though, and I can't see many other users fulfilling their drafts. Especially, since most would post before that draft gets removed from the list. I must be old fashioned since I'm still using the libreoffice/text editor way, rather than posting in archival or using the draft system.
920  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] The Heavyweight Battle of Britain - FURY vs JOSHUA on: September 22, 2022, 10:56:54 PM
So if we are going to look at it, perhaps they have agreed upon before. So there should be no hindrance this fight if the fight is going to happen. There are dates and venues already, it's just not everything in paper and sign by this two fighters.
Well, yeah there shouldn't be. Since, if you were to believe the headlines at the time they already worked out a split. Obviously, things have happened in the meantime, but I don't think the terms would need to change really. It needs to be in the UK, and they should just split the money. Although, obviously Fury will want more. I'd do a gentleman's agreement, and just go with the same terms they allegedly struck up last time.

One of the most frustrating things in boxing is the big fights not being made, but from Eddie Hearne's point of view, Joshua's days are numbered as a title challenger, and Fury also will probably be looking at two more fights, and then proper retirement. Whereas, Usyk also probably has similar thoughts. These guys have already had massive success each, and are getting on. So, it makes sense to just cash in, and make the fights against each other. That lines the promoters pockets, while also satisfying the fans.
