Same here, I am amazed by the resiliency and longevity of the service. I'm still not buying the "paid by the radio stations" explanation, but OTOH, I have no idea where the revenue actually comes from. Only thing I can imagine is some kind of backroom deals between international carriers / traffic brokers, something like that. One thing I learned from experience is that telecom operators don't seem to like it very much when you call these numbers from a flat rate subscription. I used to call from my daily driver phone, and after a few days it my service got savagely killed without explanation. I had to physically go to one of their stores, the support team had no idea what I had done wrong. I even incriminated myself by admitting I had been calling "strange" numbers (they would see it in my call logs anyway), but they said it had nothing to do with that. They said my subscription was active, payments up to date and everything about my account showed as normal in their system. They tried to swap the SIM card, it didn't work. Then they spent almost an hour escalating the issue with their backoffice, finally they managed to restore the service. I asked for an explanation, but none was given. It was a half scary, half funny experience. After that I contacted OP to relate my experience, he confirmed that it wasn't wise to call from your daily driver line or subscription. I think he should add it to the FAQ, but that would sound kind of shady. But yeah, obvious is obvious Bottom line is do not attempt to call from a non-burner SIM or VoIP/landline connection, but otherwise it's all good, not a scam, at least not for the callers. |

Oui, et je me souviens aussi des problèmes récurrents avec les retraits en fiat déjà 6 mois avant la chute. C'est d'ailleurs pour cela que j'ai perdu la somme monumentale de 0.70 CHF (autant en euros ou dollars on va pas chipoter) dans cette affaire. Et ça les valait largement pour suivre toute la saga juridique, j'ai encore reçu un mail (le dernier ?) du liquidateur japonais en 2021. Karpelès réellement innocent de l'accusation d'exit-scam ??
De ce que j'en ai retenu, Karpelès s'est rendu compte beaucoup trop tard que son exchange avait été siphonné d'une somme complètement gigantesque de BTC par des acteurs ayant exploité une "faille de sécurité", pourtant déjà bien connue et documentée à l'époque et sur ce même forum, liée à la malléabilité des transactions. En gros, une transaction qui apparaissait comme confirmée par un block explorer mais en réalité les UTXO ne finissaient pas dans le wallet de l'exchange. Le wallet ne se trompait pas et n'affichait pas la transaction entrante, mais avec un peu de social engineering ces acteurs ouvraient des tickets auprès du helpdesk pour se plaindre que des transactions validées (d'après le block explorer) à destination d'adresses de l'exchange n'étaient pas comptabilisées. Après, exit scam ou pas, je reste sur l'adage de ne pas attribuer à la malice ce qui peut s'expliquer par de la simple incompétence. Ce qui est sûr c'est qu'une fois qu'il s'en est rendu compte, il a délibérément choisi de cacher la merde au chat et ça ne lui a pas mieux réussi que la limite de crédit illimitée de SBF à la future-ex chérie... |

Sinon, en appliquant l'adage "not your keys not your coins", on échappait déjà facilement à la chute de MtGox en 2013, et absolument rien n'a changé 9 ans plus tard pour la chute de FTX. Après c'est sûr que les cryptos restent un truc spécialisé qu'il faut impérativement maîtriser pour pérenniser. |

Grayscale, à court de liquidités, incapable de renflouer Genesis, et qui a refusé de faire "proof of reserve", pourrait faire défaut de paiement. Ce ne sont encore que des rumeurs mais un peu de fud ne peut pas faire de mal.  Le truc que je trouve vraiment chelou avec Genesis c'est pourquoi se réfugier derrière un communiqué de presse de Coinbase alors que les blockchains sont précisément censées résoudre le problème de confiance par la vérification publique. Je sais pas trop comment ça va finir mais la chute du cours GBTC/BTC n'est pas très étonnante. |

Un scénario à 10k en rock bottom est tout à fait encore réaliste AMA. Il faut pas oublier que c'était encore 5k en 2020, et le fait de revoir 4 chiffres pourrait être le détonateur nécessaire pour un rebond sur les cryptos pour du moyen terme. En attendant c'est le far-west et je ne pense pas que les 20k soient solides en ce moment... |

What I would be really interested in is when major retail outlets accept (and even possibly promote) stablecoins like USDC, USDT etc.
I am one of those who see BTC as digital gold rather than everyday spending currency, using exchanges (centralized, decentralized, neobank...) on a regular basis to balance between my spending accounts and saving accounts.

En tout cas, je n'ai pas souvenir d'avoir vu les stablecoins s'en ramasser autant dans la tronche en quelques jours, pour l'UST à la rigueur on pouvait encore mettre ça sur le compte d'un challenger pas très solide, mais le Theter qui dévisse, même si ce n'est pas comparable vu qu'il s'est vite repris, c'est sûr que ça va faire peut à tout détenteur du token dans un exchange ou ailleurs.
Jusqu'à maintenant, les paires sur fiat ou USDT étaient plus ou moins assimilées au même cours, ça sera intéressant de voir si on voit une tendance au découplage.

Even for newcomers, I would say especially for them, it is actually safer to buy at 50% from ATH than at peak ATH, which seems counterintuitive to many. Investment has always been about buying against the trend to reach profitability in a zero sum game. |
