241  Bitcoin / Project Development / Book Editors Open Call: The Bitcoin Revolution on: March 26, 2014, 06:50:35 PM
Hi Everyone,

I am currently writing a book called 'The Bitcoin Revolution: Where It Came From and Where It May Lead'. Given that the community here is very supportive of promotional projects such as this, I thought to post an open call for contributors and editors here.

The book focuses on introducing new readers to the topic of bitcoin then gets into detail on the economic foundations, the government implications, and finally closes with some insights into how this technology will change society. Currently, the project stands at about 26,000 words (100 pages), I have a foreword already written and a cover already designed. The book has been properly formatted for Amazon Kindle and I have set up an e-commerce store on my website to distribute this ebook. I am working to get additional platforms of distribution onboard such as iBookstore and Google Play.

My intention with this book is not to maximize profit but to educate people on the benefits and challenges of bitcoin while increasing the adoption and acceptance rate. I also would like to use this manuscript to increase the number of speaking engagement in order to help people explore the opportunities that come with bitcoin.

To view the sales page of the book:

Here is an excerpt from the book:

The 21st Million

The world’s first trillionaire by USD valuation could quite possibly be the creator of bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto. Nakamoto is said to hold some 1,148,800 bitcoin in wallets which have yet to be identified. (Lerner, 2013) This comprises roughly 5.5% of the total bitcoin which will ever be in circulation and about 9.3% which are available today.
If bitcoin continues to climb the ladder of exponential price appreciation, then once Nakamoto decides to move his money and make transactions with it, there will be a seismic shift in the perceived supply of money. One in ten bitcoin today lies dormant, but alive. If there is one party controlling five percent of all currency that will ever be created in an economy, this poses a huge risk to the integrity of decentralization in the first place. Truly, the mammoth satoshi wallets are one of the biggest threats to price stability and market viability of bitcoin.
At this point, not much can be done about the large volume of bitcoin that lie hidden in Nakamoto’s wallets. We don’t know which addresses they belong to and we only have estimates of the amount they hold. When it comes down to it, the effect bitcoin has on the world may correlate sharply with the causes Nakamoto dedicates his purchasing power to, if he does eventually move his money.
Money has a profound way of influencing people. Business leaders recognize the opportunity to shake up the world that comes with owning massive capital. Nakamoto can either use that ability to power the common good, or for less honorable reasons. Perhaps if he decides to use his holdings on personal pleasures, while forgoing the opportunity to make positive changes outside the borders of bitcoin, then we may have overestimated the heroics of the great anonymous wizard Satoshi Nakamoto from day one.

I am looking for the following kinds of people:
  • editors (grammar, punctuation, spelling)
  • contributors (there are a ton of smart people who can add perspectives and content I have not yet incorporated into the book)
  • graphic designers (cover creators or graphics within the book, I have tables that could also be recreated)
  • reviewers (people to offer an informative review for potential buyers)
  • promoters and media outlets (people to increase the exposure and reach of the book)

If you are interested in contributing send an email to the address:  and state your intention of interest. From there I will provide a PDF copy to review what has already been written or give access to the crowdsourced editing file.

Please note this is a community oriented project, for most positions there will be no monetary compensation. All significant contributions will be given due acknowledgement in the book. In the future, I will also look into developing an audiobook version which I will make open to the people who contribute to this manuscript.

I look forward to collaborating with the community on this project in what will surely be a powerful way to move the adoption of bitcoin in the right direction.

Questions, comments, concerns are to be posted in this thread.

Here's a related question:

Which email attachments are safe to open and which are not, ie., which file attachments are known to contain viruses and which are safe.

Microsoft Office
Javascript files
zip files?

I was surprised with Mr. Bernanke's remarks.

Can't wait for bitcoin to bring an end to his cartel.
247  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has BTC entered the parabolic stage? on: November 18, 2013, 06:27:55 AM
'This time is different' syndrome.

I believe it is currently in a bubble and is being fueled by greed and ignorance. People are buying it to make $ and they have little knowledge of how bitcoin actually works. A crash will come similiarly to April's, the only question is when.

Regardless, it is a def buy for the long term.

Bitcoin to the moon!
248  Economy / Service Discussion / How long does it take to process a Mt.Gox BTC withdraw? on: November 13, 2013, 09:56:02 PM
I made a request to withdraw some BTC from my Mt.Gox account to my address.

I have access to this account via my Electrum client, yet has not registered the transaction and my Mt.Gox account is empty.  Anyone had similar situations to this?

I am a bit on edge right now but everything says it made the withdraw properly so I am assuming Mt.Gox is just taking their sweet time to process it.

Any suggestions? It's been about 3 hours now, maybe I'm just paranoid but I want to make sure.

EDIT:  Also I did not select an 'open transaction'.
249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We need only 1 big company of USA to start accepting Bitcoin on: November 09, 2013, 01:24:06 PM
I don't see why Google shouldn't start accepting BTC. Would make total sense to me, and it would be huge for the bitcoin economy. China is running away with it at this point.

Just sold 6 BTC for $280 each. The economy is getting much stronger, mainly from demand in China, but I don't think it is this strong yet.

That's amazing.

Reminds me of the birth of an organism or DNA itself.

Also interesting to note is how Satoshi powers the project himself and once it gains sufficient momentum, disappears and lets the community take over.

Hey guys,

Just a quick update here, been working on the price tracking chart lately and I have a friend of mine working alongside me so progress is being made. However, I need to fix some hardware in my computer so I may be a bit delayed with a full update.

I will put the ticker on a website when it is finished and will post a full update here when the project is completed.

Excellent, thank you both.

I will post an update tomorrow or early next week.

I've been underway with the BTC/MSC price ticker. So far I've completed some of the HTML framework and the stylesheet.

The repository is available here:

I have contacted BitcoinWisdom to gain some insight into how they have developed their Javascript framework, so I am hoping they can collaborate on the project with me. Note, some of the work is pulled from their source code, he is aware of this.

I invite others to join me in developing this price ticker, perhaps someone strong in Javascript. I am not an expert yet in this area, but I will continue to work on it and tweak the HTML/CSS.

Areas we are looking to finish up for price tracking:
  • Linking bids & asks to market data charts
  • Creating javascript framework so the program can properly communicate with changes in demand
  • Making the chart look professional and informative

Are we going to continue to use the thread/google docs to hold the bid/ask offers? If so, how would we pull these requests to display them on the ticker?

Let me know how this fits in with the rest of the developments, what we should focus on to create a program which will best serve mastercoin's users.

Things I have done/am doing to promote Mastercoin:

  • Sent up a tweet about Mastercoin:
  • Currently working on writing an article about the potential impacts of Mastercoin, will update when finished
  • Currently developing 'Minimum one website showing BTC/MSC price charts derived from these messages', JR I will update when I've made necessary progress

Feel free to send over whatever you feel is deserved.

EDIT: Fixed, transferred to my Electrum client.

Hello Guys,

I have a few questions I wanted to ask before I commit to joining the development team here. I've been reading the various articles and white papers on Mastercoin relentlessly over the last few days and I feel I have a good understanding of the objectives and vision behind the currency.

In regards to the currency coding contest, making an exchange, do we plan on hosting the site on or where and who would the exchange be run by?

I'm very interested in working on a BTC to MasterCoin exchange, however do we plan on making this the monopoly exchange or is there going to be room for competitors to move in once Mastercoin is more established? Any details about the plans we have moving forward to build an exchange would be excellent. I want to make sure I understand how a distributed exchange would work completely.

Also, if we need a grounds for development and testing, I have an awesome domain space at we could use. Perhaps this would be a suitable location for developing the exchange or a similar project?

I will await the opinion of JR & co., but I am willing to put my best foot forward and help this project realize potential in any way possible.

Do you have a link to the new contest or is it not open to the public yet?

J.R. (the Mastermind behind Mastercoin) posted a rough sketch of the next coding contest here:

Thanks Max, I'll check it out!

PS, I enjoyed your song. Perhaps in time you'll get the chance to make a sequel, this time on Mastercoin.
258  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MasterCoin: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: October 20, 2013, 09:18:14 AM
I have alot of spare time lately but not alot of money and I'm looking for a project to pour my energy and expertise into.
Don't worry about the money, you'll have plenty if you hang out here for long.  But, I've got to warn you the competition is good.  You'll have to program some slick stuff if you want to take an MSC bounty.  The last contest just ended - a new is about to begin.  Mastercoin project has over $800,000 in the bank so plenty to give away.

Hammer, are you part of the team developing Mastercoin or are you working on Colored Coins?

Do you have a link to the new contest or is it not open to the public yet?

Hello Guys,

I've been following mastercoin since the start of September and I am fascinated by the idea of using it to convert items to smart property which can exchange stocks/bonds/real estate/ect.

Is there an opportunity for a programmer with experience in Ruby and JavaScript to get involved?

I have alot of spare time lately but not alot of money and I'm looking for a project to pour my energy and expertise into.

Looking to join the Mastercoin team,

Please feel free to PM me or comment here.
