61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Start Using mBTC as Standard Denomination? on: May 31, 2013, 04:22:02 PM
I voted Yes, but I should have voted this option:

Switch to XBT. An XBT is 100 satoshi (or 1/1,000,000 BTC). This allows us to have $21,000,000,000,000 units of the base unit of currency, and an exchange rate much less threatening to newcomers.

I like the idea of allowing for more price growth in Bitcoin, and also complying with international standards for having only two decimal places of fractionality.

I like this. XBT should get more attention!

Also, stop with your "funny-dates". YYYY-MM-DD is the ONLY correct way to type dates. STANDARDS!
62  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ripples a threat to bitcoin? on: May 31, 2013, 04:17:38 PM
I am afraid that Ripple will be presented as an integral part of the Bitcoin network, thus when their true intentions finally show it's going to reflect bad on Bitcoin.
63  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-05-30 Motley Fool: Bitcoins Are Just the Worst Idea Ever on: May 31, 2013, 04:15:06 PM
Are you sure that this article is not written in pure irony?
64  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ripples a threat to bitcoin? on: May 31, 2013, 08:03:36 AM
Ripple NEEDS to fail! It's a cancer on the Bitcoin ecosystem.

It's centralized and closed source. It's nothing like bitcoin and any further association is bad for the Bitcoin.
65  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Start Using mBTC as Standard Denomination? on: May 30, 2013, 10:27:19 PM
Let's use standards. Please.

It is standard but not usual for currencies.

I mean how many times have you heard about giga-dollars or peta-euros...

Since we don't have a central authority to decide what to call smaller denominations, it's only logical to fall back on standard units.

However, what you prefer to call it in casual conversation is another discussion. There you have my vote for "millibit", short for "millibitcoin".
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Start Using mBTC as Standard Denomination? on: May 30, 2013, 09:52:25 PM
What do you prefer?

10 mbc (milibitcoin)
10 mBTC
10 milis
10 milcoins
Other...

I really like 1 mbc, in lowercase also indicates that it's a subunit.

mBTC! It's not a matter of what you like or not. mX is the standard way to say it.

Let's use standards. Please.
68  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 30, 2013, 05:01:40 PM
It feels like the big wall over at Bitstamp is holding the price in place on MtGox as well.
69  Economy / Speculation / Re: Tuur Demeester - Bicoin as an Investment on: May 30, 2013, 01:24:19 PM
I watched this last night and it was easily the best talk from the conference that I have watched so far. Great job!
70  Economy / Speculation / Re: This is the Bitcoin Marathon, not the Bitcoin Sprint on: May 27, 2013, 01:04:17 PM
Maybe one day saying you bought a bitcoin in 2011/2012 and held will be like saying you bought a Berkshire Class-A share in 1970 and held.

Still thinking too small. Smiley

The walls are being bought into, not pulled as far as I can see.
72  Bitcoin / Press / Re: BFL finally shipping, 21.05.2013 on: May 21, 2013, 03:43:36 PM
Please fix the date.
73  Other / Off-topic / Re: Religious beliefs on bitcoin on: May 21, 2013, 02:48:38 PM
If:

A) We see a worldwide, utopian government arise,

that:

B) Demands everyone to implant a chip (or the like) in our foreheads or in our right hands,

that:

C) Is required to trade or buy merchandise,

then we have a problem.

Until then, not so much.
74  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 20, 2013, 11:22:00 PM
No, kilogram is the SI unit.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilogram

(The only SI base unit with a prefix IIRC)

I stand corrected.    Appologies for making such a conclusive statement without checking my facts. I thought it was another silly American who didnt understand the prefixes. I actually should have known this even without looking it up.

Btw: Does anyone know did SI chose this?

Sorry to disappoint you. Silly Swede here, we know our standard units. Wink

I never felt this need with gold BTW.
As a store of value, some things are better seen as expensive.
Ie: "oh noes, gold is $1000+ an ounce ... better talk in grams!"

This makes no sense. Why not use Kilo then, since that is the standard unit?
76  Economy / Speculation / Re: Criptocoins vs. Linux on: May 20, 2013, 01:54:55 PM
If Bitcoin would be as successful as Linux, then we are in for a ride. I don't think you understand how BIG Linux is, if you look at the big picture.
77  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp volumes, what do they imply? on: May 20, 2013, 01:52:53 PM
From Europe, Bitstamp is a superior choice in terms of speed etc. Fast SEPA with no fees.
78  Economy / Speculation / Re: Automated posting on: May 19, 2013, 11:57:00 AM
Let's focus on the real issue. People like posting walls, and chart buddy makes them redundant. Look at this page, most of the posts are from chartbuddy. It has a negative effect on the overall quality of the tread because it derails discussion and we end up focusing on dumb stuff. This is fine, but I think everything would be better if we went back to a human dominated wall observer.

Interesting point. Part of the reason I wrote ChartBuddy was the hope that having movement be visible on an ongoing basis would help spark conversation. That doesn't particularly seem, to have been the case though. Then again, we have seen a whole lot of stability recently (coincidence or conspiracy? Smiley )

The problem with ChartBuddy is the 3D-effect. It's simply to hard to read (not hard to understand, just hard to read). I find Bitcoinity to be the easiest to read when I want to see the walls.
