121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do we talk about Laszlos pizza but not the 1000 BTC poker tournament ? on: July 21, 2018, 08:37:37 PM
The sale of the pizza was a real world transaction everybody can relate to. Not many people across the world can relate to an anonymous poker competition. Plus, the offer was open to everybody across the world. Somebody took up the opportunity and became rich. That could be one reason why it is still talked about today.
122  Economy / Economics / Re: Does Bitcoin affect world trade? on: July 21, 2018, 07:58:06 PM
Is there a role for Bitcoin in international trade? Have you heard of a trade between two countries?
And will it be in the future?

Until recently, there was no way for companies to hedge their bitcoin exposure. If a Company sells goods for bitcoins, but receives payment in 30 days, it wouldn't be sure of the value it would receive. The volatility that bitcoin has could wipe out the entire capital of a small business. So the smart ones would focus on building their business, not try to manage bitcoin volatility.
123  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-07-18] Cryptocurrency Rally Builds Steam as Bitcoin Surpasses $7,500 on: July 21, 2018, 07:41:50 PM
What does china have to do with the price? There were times when the news coming from China influenced the price, but today the news from China does not affect the price

That is true. It has been a couple of years since news about China has moved the Bitcoin market. Of course, if China does change its stance about Bitcoin, there could be a big rally.
I wouldn't attribute this rally to any thing in particular. It is time people stopped trying to over-analyze things.
124  Economy / Economics / Re: The Reason For Creating a New Cryptocurrency? on: July 15, 2018, 04:06:11 PM
Reason number one:For pump&dump purposes.
Reason number two:Exit scam ICO(which is kinda like the first one,but with pump&dump they could pump the coin again and gain aditional profits).
Those are the real reasons. The fake reasons include:instant and cheaper transactions, easy and profitable mining, technology innovation that will beat the crypto competition.

It is sad, but true. Most coins are created so that their developers can benefit financially. We just have to look at all the coins which are considered "dead". Their developers have most probably profited at the expense of ordinary investors.
125  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA WORLD CUP 2018? on: July 15, 2018, 03:52:40 PM
Still 30 minutes to go start the final match of FIFA world cup between France v Croatian as per my prediction the France going to win the game with 2-0 and I am going to bet on France around 300usd I hope that I am going to get back 600usd let's see.

At half time, France are leading 2-1 but Croatia look by far the better team. Both of France's goals came from dubious refereeing decisions - the first from a free kick which shouldn't have been given and the second from a questionable decision on handball. Croatia would have the confidence to fight back in the second half.
126  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-07-15] Russian Intelligence Officers Mined Bitcoin To Fund Attacks Against on: July 15, 2018, 02:57:39 PM
The mining of Bitcoin is probably a side note in the larger plan. The Russian agencies are well-funded and do not need to mine Bitcoins to fund their hacking attack. They probably had to make pay-off using bitcoins, but mining accounted probably for only a small portion of their source. When a state agency wants to obtain bitcoins, it is very easy to do so.
127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin become an asset on: July 15, 2018, 10:18:57 AM
https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/south-korean-supreme-court-rules-bitcoin-asset/

I read about this news that in south korea bitcoin is legally become recognizeable as asset. I do think bitcoin is a currency and not an asset. I dont know whether this is good news or not for cryptocurrency. One thing i believe with legalization from goverment i do think more investors will come to invest in bitcoin, but i think if bitcoin become an asset its not as it suppose to because i believe bitcoin should be a currency which is currency is for transaction and asset is not for transaction.

i think there is nothing wrong with bitcoin if it is going to be an asset to be used by peoples.
peoples who invested on bitcoin from few years ago, they already earn profit now.
So, i think it is alright for bitcoin to became an asset to invest.

That is true. In the end, it does not matter how people view Bitcoin - as an asset, as a currency, or as a commodity. There will be different sets of people who view Bitcoin differently and derive a distinct utility from it. The market price will incorporate all these different views.
128  Economy / Exchanges / Re: coinbase adding 5 more new coins on: July 14, 2018, 09:03:50 PM
Since the rumor on coinbase adding Ripple year back ago wasn't real or fake, is there any chance that the 5 coins you mentioned are added to coinbase someday?

They have stated very clearly that they are 'exploring' adding these coins. The problem was with insider trading when Coinbase added Bitcoin Cash. I guess they do not want accusations like that to fly around again. They are just preempting that.
129  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA WORLD CUP 2018? on: July 14, 2018, 08:49:23 PM
No surprises, Belgium won this game as expected.
Tomorrow match is a little bit challenging, France has more chances but Croatie made enough surprises to make this game interesting, attach your seat belt gentlemen, we will have an interesting game tomorrow  Wink

I wouldn't say that Belgium were expected to win this match, especially if you ask the English fans. Although Belgium had beaten England in the league matches, that was because a lot of English players were rested. England seemed to lack zing in this match; perhaps the defeat to Croatia took the wind out of their sails.
130  Economy / Speculation / Re: BITCOIN AND ITS ENDING? on: July 14, 2018, 09:58:07 AM
Is there any ending or not?

Cryptocurrency will never end as long as there are ico's who are starting every month and people are still investing, everyone will still use cryptocurrency because it was very profitable.

The "end" can be a steady state when Bitcoin is used everywhere. The end will be the end of uncertainty and volatility, not the end of Bitcoin being used. The price really doesn't matter. I will continue to hold Bitcoin for the next few years.
131  Economy / Economics / Re: Forex is investment is a country on: July 14, 2018, 07:46:15 AM
Bitcoin future does not look good since it is decentralized and it is trying to eliminate world's most powerful currencies.

Bitcoin is a paradigm shift in the currency world. History shows that every international reserve currency lasts only a few centuries. Before the USD became omnipresent, the British Pound was King. And a few centuries before that, it was the Spanish Peseta. For the first time, people have the option of choosing a currency which is not linked to any country.
132  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-07-13] Billionaire Steven Cohen Enters Crypto Industry on: July 14, 2018, 07:26:43 AM
In 2018, many millionaires entered the crypto market, but for some reason it was not reflected in prices. This is really interesting. Maybe they didn't choose to invest too much. But new investors will be useful in the long run.

They definitely aren't investing their house on cryptocurrencies. These measured investments are definitely helpful, but they wouldn't result in the price skyrocketing. The fact that they engage hedge funds to invest in cryptocurrencies is a positive - the investments can scale up quickly as they become comfortable investing in this space.
133  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [08-07-2019] CBOE Files New Bitcoin ETF Licence Application with SEC on: July 13, 2018, 07:19:44 PM
The U.S. Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) has received an application for a Bitcoin ETF license from CBOE Global Markets. Although the U.S. regulator has historically taken a hard stance on crypto-backed funds, other applications have unfortunately not been approved, but a Bitcoin ETF seems to have a better chance of success. SEC recently made a

The Exchange Traded Fund, if it does happen, will be a game changer for Bitcoin. It could let common people take Bitcoin exposure with ease. Unfortunately, the regulators haven't taken a positive stance. Since this time the applicant is CBOE Global Markets, we can hope that the SEC will look at the application favourably.
134  Economy / Economics / Re: CAN WE SAY THE MARKETCAP OF BITCOIN IS FALSE?? on: July 12, 2018, 09:22:59 PM
It is very difficult to calculate the real market cap of Bitcoin. Because a huge number of Bitcoins are "lost", i.e no one is having the private key to spend them. This includes the BTC980,000 stash mined by Satoshi.

I guess there is always the possibility of Satoshi's coins entering the market. If he is still around and has access to his private keys, he may still spend them. Even if he isn't attached to material wealth, there is the possibility of him transferring the coins to a Bitcoin Foundation or some charity.
135  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-07-10] Bitcoin Ownership in Canada is Up 72 Percent Since 2016 on: July 12, 2018, 09:15:26 PM
Bitcoin Ownership in Canada is Up 72 Percent Since 2016, Says Central Bank

The newly-published update to the 2017 Bitcoin Omnibus Survey (BTCOS), conducted by the Bank of Canada last Dec. 12 to Dec. 15, indicates that five percent of Canadians own bitcoin, up from 2.9 percent when the central bank conducted a similar poll in Nov. 2016.

https://www.ccn.com/bitcoin-ownership-in-canada-is-up-72-percent-since-2016-says-central-bank/

I would still say that it is a very low number. Calculating percentage growth from such low bases is just for sensational headlines. Every poll would have a margin of error. If the percentage of Canadians who own Bitcoin is estimated to be 4-6%, then the percentage growth will vary from 40% to 100%.
136  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency or Stock Market? on: July 09, 2018, 08:11:13 PM
I was first involved with the stock market and I love it, but there is a certain satisfaction when I get involved with the crypto market because it looks easier - despite the more extreme fluctuations and not authorized by the government, I assume there is a huge potential that will make Crypto more familiar to spread all economic circles fairly.

The crypto market is definitely not easier to play compared to the equities market. The crypto market is very volatile and so you might think that returns are quick if you get it right. But if you get caught on the wrong foot, your entire capital can disappear quickly in the crypto market.
137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 2013-14 Historical Statistics Repeating itself? on: July 09, 2018, 07:10:15 PM
If we look at the 2013 peak and the subsequent crash, the recovery was not immediate. It took almost 4 years for the previous ATH to be reached again. Each and every bull run in Bitcoin's history has been followed by a crash (not to the previous levels), with a longer and longer recovery time. If this time is anything similar, we could wait a decade before $20k is reached again.
138  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA WORLD CUP 2018? on: July 09, 2018, 06:24:15 PM
If I had to bet (I will not) I will give Croatia a win against England. England has obviously the most experience in these big world cup finals, but Croatia is extra motivated to get their first cup, and Luka Modric is not the only good guy in the team, it just feels like a solid cub team rather than a selection team of different players put together for a special situation, the team feels very solid. It is my favorite so far. I will not bet tho, because it's too much risk, at this point all of them could win, but that's my 2cents for anyone that wants to bet.

Same. I definitely want Croatia to win, so I am nit gonna bet, to jinx it. My only concern for Croatia is that they have played extra times twice, and England only once, so England will be much fresher, given that their extra time was two games ago. I hope Croatia can use the experience of Luka Modric to win the game. England have their strengths coming from wing play. Sterling, Rashford, Allie etc. Croatia will have to numb that.

A lot of things do seem to have fallen in place for England - the South American teams are out, so as strong European teams like Germany and Spain. Croatia are a good team, but England will be happy playing them in the semi-finals. England have even managed to win a penalty shoot-out this time! The England fans may not be wrong in expecting the World Cup to come home this time.
139  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do older people like investing in Gold/Silver? on: July 09, 2018, 04:08:08 PM
I'm not one who would invest in precious metals, but I have noticed that a good amount of the older generations are pretty keen in investing in these metals. They see it as a way to bet against the market, and a security that will always be safe -- even in the times of a market downturn/country failure as a whole.

I personally wouldn't even want to buy these metals in those events, as I don't see the reason to. I'd rather invest in securities that go up when the market shits itself (Payroll lending companies and so on and so forth)

Does anyone here know the reason behind people loving precious metals?

People have seen gold and silver retaining value in periods of high inflation. You don't need to be sophisticated to invest in precious metals as well. The older generation might think twice about investing in equities and might run away from cryptocurrencies, but they will be at ease in gold and silver.
140  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hyperbitcoinization and pattern of exponential growth on: July 08, 2018, 09:39:17 PM
I support the dumping of the old, obsolete nation-state model, in favor of AI global governance. Code should substitute governments, blockchain should substitute the state apparatus. I envy the younger generations, who will have the privilege to just plug a computer inside their brains. I will probably be dead when this is available.

Machines will rule humanity better, the future belong to the machines and theres nothing you can do to resist assimilation. AIs use logic, humans do not.

Bitcoin value is infinite. 100k will not be enough.

The nation state model is a recent construct. Not long ago, your life was at the mercy of kings who ruled your land. There are still some despots around, but by and large we have nation states and democracies. Jumping to AI global governance will be a big step.
Bitcoin might be invaluable, but it should still have a price attached to it. The common man on the street cannot deal with abstract numbers.
